Death in Adam Life in Christ
by Scott Price

The result of Adam's sin is very devastating. We not only receive a sin nature which is spiritual death but worse than that, we are legally dead which is our condemnation. We all were legally declared dead in the garden and get the sin nature at conception because of our federal representative Adam (Romans 5:12-21). The Elect have legal life which is justification by the imputed righteousness of Christ. The effect of that righteousness established is spiritual life or regeneration, so that we may have the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is our Life, glorified in our hearts.

The best evidence of the death we have in Adam is self righteousness.  By nature this is what we highly esteem (Luke 16:15). This is the way that seems right unto man, but is death (Proverbs 14:12). Not even our conscience can show us our self righteousness but only helps to produce more. It is the sin that deceives us all. But the gospel, wherein the righteousness of God is revealed, which is the good news of  justification by the imputed righteousness of Christ merited by His life and death, can penetrate the heart by the power of the Spirit to show His righteousness that we lack and expose the evil of self righteousness to bring faith and repentance. It is then when we turn from idols to serve the Living God. Thank God alone for this!
