Salvation is of the Lord - Published on February 1, 2019
...     This is our standing before a Holy, Just, and Righteous God out side of Jesus Christ. This is what the scriptures tell us.      Romans 3 verses 10 - 12; As it is written;  There is none righteous, no not one; there is none there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all Gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.      My friend when you tell me that it is your believing, or your choosing is the cause of your salvation you do not know God's way of salvation. We are born with a heart of unbelief, and for us to know the way of salvation, that Jesus Christ is the way the truth, and the life, we must be given a new heart to believe, an...

Progressive Sanctification - Published on January 28, 2019
...     Does the old man of sin, which is corrupt, according to the deceitful lusts, grow better and better?      The answer to this question is NO: for the old man, which is the flesh, is always the same, lusting against the Spirit, which causes the spiritual warfare in the Christian’s breast; for ”what shall we see in the Shulamite? As it were, the company of two armies.” This contest between the old man of sin and the new man of grace will never cease while we are in the body.      The doctrine of the old man of sin growing better and better, the Christian, by daily experience, proves to be the doctrine of fools, and he will have to say with Paul, even down to the Jordan of death, “I know that in me, that is, in my ...

A Personal and Progressive Holiness? - Published on January 28, 2019
...“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” - John 3:6        There is no promise made that we shall be set free in this life from the in-being and the in-working of sin. Many think that they are to become progressively holier and holier, that sin after sin is to be removed gradually out of the heart, until at last they are almost made perfect in the flesh. But this is an idle dream, and one which, sooner or later in the case of God’s people, will be rudely and roughly broken to pieces.        Nature will ever remain the same; and we shall ever find that the flesh will lust against the spirit. Our Adam nature is corrupt to the very core. It cannot be mended, it cannot be san...

Duty - Published on January 27, 2019
...For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. Romans 7:18      Many of the early settlers (in fact most of them) which came to the shores of what is now our great nation came here as indentured servants. Since there were no bankruptcy laws in England at the time, if a man incurred a debt that he could not pay he either had to go to a debtors prison until that debt was settled (where many died in utter poverty) or sell himself into slavery to someone willing to pay off his debts. In view of the fact that the need for laborers of all types in the colonies was great, there were many businessmen who would gladly pay off the debts of any who agreed to come to the new world...

Prayers for Salvation - Published on January 27, 2019
...     Any prayers for the lost to be saved must give glory to God: by acknowledging that we desire the lost whom he has ELECTED to be saved. Not merely those whom we love in this earthly life by sentiment or family ties. There is nothing wrong with us desiring our friends and family to be saved. However, to pray that God will save them in a manner that invokes his favoritism toward our family line or circle of friends--this is abominable.      All of us have many ancestors in hell. We will also have biological descendents in hell. Isaac now sees his son Esau in hell. David sees his sons Ammon and Absolam in hell. Eli sees his sons in hell. That 'Presbyterian covenant child' cult leader in California (Marshall Applewhite) is now in hell, though both h...

How Should We Pray? - Published on January 26, 2019
...     How should we pray? This is a question that I have been asked several times. Often when men come to an understanding of justification by Christ alone and rejoice in God’s determination of all things, this is a question that almost immediately arises. It is also asked by skeptics that hope to destroy those who rejoice in the accomplished salvation of Christ.      I’m sure it’s no surprise to my readers that I being the "harsh, intolerant, and judgmental" one think the prayers of most men are pathetic. They are self-centered which is simply a symptom of a self-centered gospel. I remember an old church which I used to attend faithfully. Almost every wednesday without fail, all the members of the church would gather to have a pr...

Give Diligence to Make Your Calling and Election Sure - Published on January 26, 2019
...     The regenerating grace of the Holy Spirit will cause a man to rejoice in the pardon of sin through the blood of Christ, but it will not cause him to be careless in his lifestyle so as to live without consideration for the glory of God and the reputation of the gospel. The Spirit’s work will give him rest in his soul that all is well between him and a holy God because redemption has been accomplished by the Son of God, but it will not lead him to be indifferent about his soul’s eternal welfare. It will cause him to rejoice that he has a good hope through grace, but it will not make him any the less watchful for his safety. Every saved sinner is overwhelmed that he should be an object of the free and sovereign grace of God, yet none will ever turn away fr...

Does God Save Sinners Through A False Gospel? - Published on January 26, 2019
...Recently I was discussing with someone about whether a person could be saved under the preaching of a false gospel. As I have been thinking about this over the past few days several things have been brought to my attention. We know first of all that it is only through the preaching of the Truth, the true gospel that God saves sinners as is clearly set forth in Romans 10:14. This is the means whereby God has chosen to save sinners. The truth about the person and work of Christ must be proclaimed and as He is proclaimed His "sheep hear His voice and follow." All of His sheep are eventually brought under the preaching of the true gospel and the Spirit gives them spiritual life which results in ears to hear and eyes to see Christ. So the question remains, "Does God save sinne...

Present Day Evangelism - Published on January 26, 2019
...Most of the so-called evangelism of our day is a grief to genuine Christians, for they feel that it lacks any scriptural warrant, that it is dishonoring unto God, and that it is filling the churches with empty professors. They are shocked that so much frothy superficiality, fleshly excitement and worldly allurement should be associated with the holy name of the Lord Jesus Christ. They deplore the cheapening of the Gospel, the beguiling of unwary souls, and the carnalizing and commercializing of what is to them ineffably sacred. It requires little spiritual discernment to perceive that the evangelistic activities of Christendom during the last century have steadily deteriorated from bad to worse, yet few appear to realize the root from which this evil has sprung. It will now be our endeavor...

Modern Evangelism Unmasked - Published on January 26, 2019
...The so-called "gospel" being preached in our day falls far short of that "glorious gospel" (2 Cor. 4:4; 1 Tim. 1:11) of the New Testament. We are living in a time when preachers are telling sinners that they can be saved without repenting, without forsaking their idols, and without surrendering to the Lordship of Christ. The Bible doctrine of the sinfulness and depravity of man has been thrown to the winds. "Another gospel" and "another Jesus" has gained popularity, and "another spirit" is being received instead of the Holy Spirit (2 Cor. 11:4).  We need to unmask the "modern evangelism" of our day. To do so, let us look very candidly at what is popularly being preached and believed as "gospel truth." A few of th...

The Atonement - Published on January 26, 2019
...It is unspeakably sad that the atoning death of the Lord Jesus Christ-the most wonderful event that has ever happened or will happen-should have been made the occasion of contention and controversy. That it has been so, affords an awful example of human depravity. The more so, that throughout the centuries of this Christian era, some of the hottest theological battles have been waged over the vital truth of the Atonement. Speaking generally, only two views or interpretations of the Cross have received much favor among the professed people of God: the one which affirmed that the Atonement effected to make certain the salvation of all who believe; the other which supposed that atonement was made in order to make possible the salvation of all men. The former is the strict Calvinist view; t...
