The Knowledge of God's Glory

The Knowledge of God's Glory

"For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." II Corinthians 4:6

God’s glory is the expression of His righteous character by the work of His Son. God is just and God is holy. He is forgiving, merciful, and compassionate. He resolves the enmity between Himself and His elect by a full and final satisfaction of His law’s demand and penalty in Christ’s sacrificial death. Christ’s death is the curse ending our cursedness. Christ’s death is the payment ending our indebtedness, Christ’s death is the death of our death and the final and full answer to every charge against us.  By the virtue and efficacy of His death, we live, and our bodies will someday live in the resurrection.

God has shown the knowledge of Christ’s cross into our hearts. This is to say, we know by a knowledge and a sight He has given, and He does not give defective gifts. What he gives will not be mistaken for something else, any more than light can be mistaken for darkness. It must be so: God can not deny Himself in anything He does.
