The Ten Tell-Tale Signs I'm a Heretic

The word heretic and heresy are not often used in the new testament.  In fact, each word is only used once.  But if you were to jump onto facebook these days, you might be surprised to find it's one of the principle words of scripture.  Every day I see the word bandied about sometimes even more than the word Christ or Gospel. I even read an article regarding ten tell-tale signs you're a heretic.  Summarizing, the ten signs were as follows...

  1. Have no accountability.
  2. Despise the use of creeds.
  3. Promote doctrinal "innovations."
  4. Claim other christians have taught what you believe.
  5. Flatterer to accolytes and maligner of detractors.
  6. Teach and promote "mystery".
  7. Don't give straight answers to questions.
  8. Encourages others to separate from those who don't agree with you.
  9. Claim to have a different perspectives on biblical words or phrases.
  10. Isn't a weirdo.

Well folks, here is what I have to say about this list as it concerns me.  I'm going to try and answer this truthfully.

  1. My "accountabilty" is severely lacking.
  2. I don't like the use of creeds.
  3. I do believe certain doctrines that are in the minority.
  4. I do believe that others have taught all of the doctrines that I believe.
  5. I do tend to have better conversations with those who praise me than with those who accuse me.
  6. I do believe there are mysteries that have yet to be revealed to me.
  7. I have difficulty giving straight answers sometimes.
  8. No comment.
  9. I do claim to have different perspectives on biblical words and phrases.
  10. I'm a weirdo.  WHEW!

And I guess that makes me a heretic.  So I decided to search for the word "heresy" in the Scriptures and this is what I saw...

But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets. - Acts 2:14

Well I don't know about you, but this weirdo is glad to be numbered amongst them. - B.
