What does the Bible say about Jesus Christ and Him crucified?

The Bible emphasizes that salvation is founded solely in Jesus Christ and His sacrificial death.

The Bible consistently portrays Jesus Christ as central to the message of salvation. In 1 Corinthians 2:2, the Apostle Paul underscores that his focus was solely on "Jesus Christ and Him crucified." This highlights that the gospel is not merely a set of doctrines but a person—Jesus, the Son of God—who incarnated, suffered, and died for sins. The Old Testament prophecies set forth this reality, emphasizing His uniqueness and purpose. The crucifixion is pivotal as it reconciles believers to God, illustrating the depth of Christ’s love and sacrifice.

1 Corinthians 2:2, Isaiah 45:22

How do we know the gospel is true?

The truth of the gospel is substantiated by the historical life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The gospel is declared true through the testimony of Christ's life and the fulfillment of prophecies that set the stage for His coming. Jesus lived a perfect life, fully humanity, yet without sin, which authenticates His role as our mediator and savior. His resurrection is the capstone of the gospel; He was not just a victim of crucifixion but was raised on the third day, demonstrating His power over sin and death. This historical reality sets Christianity apart from all other faith systems and assures believers that faith in Him is not in vain.

1 Corinthians 2:2, Isaiah 45:22

Why is faith in Christ important for Christians?

Faith in Christ is essential as it is the means through which believers receive salvation and assurance.

Faith in Christ is foundational for salvation; it is through faith that believers are justified before God. The person of Jesus Christ—who lived, died, and resurrected—is the object of that faith. As believers, we rest not on a series of doctrines or personal works, but on the reality of Christ's identity and His completed work on the cross. This personal relationship is transformative and assures us of our standing before God. Furthermore, it invites every individual, as Isaiah 45:22 proclaims, to look unto Him for salvation, affirming that faith is not just intellectual assent but a trusting relationship with the living Christ.

Isaiah 45:22, John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-9

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified - I Corinthians 2:2

The apostle Paul declared to a heathen world, and a church being led astray by foolish pride and worldly wisdom, that he preached Christ and Him crucified. The gospel is a person. He was a person in eternity, as the Son of God, the second person of the Godhead. He was appointed as a mediator and surety of an everlasting covenant and as such stood as a person. In every Old Testament prophecy He is set forth as a person. When He appeared on this earth in Bethlehem’s manger he was a person. He lived as a servant under the law of God and was tempted in all points like as we are, yet without sin as a person. His suffering was real. He hung on a cross and died a real death. He was raised the third day as a person who ate and drank. He had scars to prove himself to be the resurrected Christ. The disciples watched as He ascended into glory as our Great High Priest where He sits at the right hand of God.

Faith lays hold of the person who loved them and gave himself for him. Faith rests in Him as it is persuaded of the greatness of His person. Salvation is not a system or a plan or an offer: It is the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. “Look unto me and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God and there is none else.” (Isaiah 45:22)
