What does the Bible say about God's unchanging nature?

The Bible proclaims that God does not change, as stated in Malachi 3:6, affirming His eternal faithfulness.

The Bible is clear that God is unchanging, which is foundational to understanding His character and promises. In Malachi 3:6, God declares, 'For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.' This unchanging nature reassures believers that God's love, mercy, and promises remain constant, irrespective of circumstances or humanity's actions. His eternal attributes are a source of comfort and strength in the life of a Christian, particularly in a world that is fraught with change and uncertainty.

How do we know God's mercies are new every morning?

Lamentations 3:23 affirms that God's mercies renew each day, reflecting His continual grace towards His people.

In Lamentations 3:23, we find the hopeful truth that 'His mercies are new every morning.' This passage showcases the endless mercy of God, which is a vital aspect of His relationship with believers. Despite the fact that people may repeatedly fall into sin, God's merciful disposition provides the necessary grace for repentance and renewal. Each day presents a new opportunity to experience God's unfailing love and forgiveness, which strengthens believers in their faith journey, reminding them of their dependence on divine grace.

Why is God's love important for Christians?

God's everlasting love, as stated in Jeremiah 31:3, is crucial because it ensures believers' identity and security in Him.

Jeremiah 31:3 reveals a profound truth: 'I have loved thee with an everlasting love.' This love is not just a sentiment; it forms the very foundation of a believer's identity and assurance. Understanding that God's love is everlasting allows Christians to cultivate a relationship built on trust and security. In times of doubt or fear, recalling this steadfast love can anchor their faith, enabling them to confront life's challenges with confidence. Furthermore, this love compels them to reflect that love in their relationships, becoming conduits of God's grace to others.

What does Romans 8:28 say about God's purpose?

Romans 8:28 teaches that God works all things for good for those who love Him, aligning with His divine purpose.

Romans 8:28 assures believers that 'all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.' This verse emphasizes that regardless of the trials and tribulations one may face, God is sovereignly orchestrating events to achieve His perfect plan for His chosen ones. The assurance of divine providence alleviates anxiety and fosters a lasting hope in God's ultimate goodness. Understanding this truth encourages believers to remain steadfast in their faith, knowing that God actively works in their lives, shaping them according to His purpose.

Romans 8:28

I have given up being excited about the New Year for some time now because I have found that nothing changes except the number on the calendar.  Men will make New Year’s resolutions to do better, but they won’t do it.  Men will keep sinning and rebelling against God the same way they always have.  “The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.” (Ecclesiastes 1:9-10)

More importantly, I know that I will continue to sin the same way I always have.  Even though I have been born again by God the Holy Spirit, I can’t do anything but sin because I am still carrying around the old nature of the flesh.  The number on the calendar will change, but my need of forgiveness, mercy, and grace from God will never change as long as I am in the flesh.

I am thankful that another thing will never change: God will never change.  “For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.”  (Malachi 3:6)  In this new year, God’s mercies will still be new every morning. (Lamentations 3:23)  God will still love His people with an everlasting love. (Jeremiah 31:3) God will still never leave nor forsake His people. (Hebrews 13:5)  God will still work all things together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)  Thank God that He will always be the unchanging object of saving faith!
