What does the Bible say about the value of Christ?

The Bible presents Christ as the most precious possession, far surpassing anything in Heaven or earth (Song of Songs 5:16).

In Scripture, Christ is depicted as the ultimate treasure, embodying incomparable beauty and worth. The verse in Song of Songs 5:16 highlights this by calling Him 'altogether lovely' and a beloved friend. The intrinsic value of Christ is emphasized, showing that not even Heaven, with all its glory, can rival His worth. His love and excellence transcend earthly joys, making Him the 'richest jewel' that God has bestowed upon sinners.

Furthermore, this comparison illustrates that ten thousand worlds would not amount to the value of Christ. All created beauty and joy, when considered together, would still fall short of one drop of rain compared to the vast seas, demonstrating that Christ is not just valued; He is invaluable. For God to give such a precious gift to sinful humanity speaks volumes about His grace and love, reflecting a divine mercy that is unfathomable.

Song of Songs 5:16

Why is Christ important for Christians?

Christ is essential for Christians as He represents the ultimate gift of God's love and a source of spiritual life.

For Christians, Christ is of utmost importance because He embodies the mercy of God toward humanity, having sacrificed Himself for our sins. His role as the 'richest jewel' signifies that there is no greater treasure than a relationship with Him. This relationship offers believers redemption, reconciliation, and eternal life, emphasizing that apart from Christ, one cannot truly experience God's promises.

Moreover, the beauty and excellence of Christ become a source of strength and inspiration in the believer's life. His love is transformative, bringing about a deeper understanding of grace and the calling to reflect His glory in the world. By valuing Christ above all else, Christians are able to cultivate a profound appreciation for God's grace, driving them to share the hope and love found in Him with others. In this light, Christ is not only important; He is the very essence of what it means to live a life of faith.
How do we know God's love is true?

God's love is demonstrated through the sacrificial giving of Christ for our salvation.

The truth of God's love is most clearly expressed through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. In giving Christ to die for sinners, God provided the richest mercy, showcasing a love that is both profound and unconditional. This act alone serves as the foundation for understanding the depth of God's compassion for humanity. By viewing Christ's sacrifice as the 'mercy of mercies', believers can grasp how serious God is about redeeming His creation.

Furthermore, God's love is not merely theoretical; it is enacted and relational. Scripture consistently emphasizes the personal nature of God's love, suggesting that true knowledge of His love comes through experiential relationship with Jesus. Moments of trial and testing in a believer's life can also serve to reveal the steadfastness of God's love, proving that despite circumstances, His commitment to us remains unchanging. Thus, we can trust in the truth of God's love, evidenced by the historical and ongoing significance of Christ's work in our lives.

"Yes, He is altogether lovely. This is my Beloved, and this is my Friend!" - Song of Songs 5:16

In giving Christ to die for poor sinners, God gave the richest jewel in His cabinet; a mercy of the greatest worth, and most inestimable value.

Heaven itself is not so valuable and precious as Christ is! Ten thousand thousand worlds—as many worlds as angels can number, would not outweigh Christ's love, excellency and sweetness. O what a lovely One! What an excellent, beautiful, ravishing One—is Christ!

Put the beauty of ten thousand paradises, like the garden of Eden, into one; put all flowers, all fragrances, all colors, all tastes, all joys, all sweetness, all loveliness into one; O what a lovely and excellent thing would that be!

And yet it should be less to that loveliest and dearest well-beloved Christ—than one drop of rain to all the seas, rivers, lakes, and fountains of ten thousand earths!

Now, for God to bestow the mercy of mercies, the most precious thing in Heaven or earth upon poor sinners; and, as great, as lovely, as excellent as His Son was—what kind of love is this!
