What does the Bible say about salvation?

The Bible teaches that salvation is solely the work of Christ and not dependent on human efforts or decisions.

The Bible clearly states that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone, as affirmed in Ephesians 2:8-9. This doctrine emphasizes that believers are powerless to save themselves, and it is Christ's atoning sacrifice that accomplishes redemption. In the sovereign grace perspective, individuals are drawn to faith not by an act of their will but by the regenerative work of the Holy Spirit, highlighting the sovereignty of God in salvation.

How do we know that true belief leads to salvation?

True belief, characterized by trust in Christ's work, is evidenced by a transformed life.

In the Reformed tradition, true belief is not merely intellectual assent but involves a heart change brought about by the Holy Spirit. In John 10:27, Jesus states that His sheep hear His voice and follow Him, indicating that genuine faith results in a life that reflects obedience to Christ. As a result, believers can have assurance of their salvation when they see the fruits of the Spirit in their lives, confirming their status as truly saved.

Why is understanding total depravity important for Christians?

Understanding total depravity highlights humanity's need for God's grace for salvation.

The concept of total depravity, as articulated in the Five Points of Dordrecht, asserts that due to the fall, every part of human nature is affected by sin. This theological understanding emphasizes that individuals are utterly incapable of turning to God without His initiating grace. Recognizing total depravity underscores the necessity for salvation to be initiated by God and not by any human decision or merit, leading to a greater appreciation of Christ's work on the cross and the grace freely given to believers.

Romans 3:10-12, Ephesians 2:1-5

A young Believer may only know that they were powerless to save themselves and Christ saved them! A person who believes that Jesus made it possible for him to become saved by an act of the will is not yet a believer!
