What does the Bible say about God's foreordained plan for His people?

The Bible teaches that God has a sovereign plan for His people, established before the foundation of the world, which includes their salvation.

Scripture emphasizes that God's plan for His people is not arbitrary but was determined before the world began. In Ephesians 1:4-5, it is stated that He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, predestining us for adoption as His children. This sovereignty assures us that God is actively working to redeem His people throughout history, and all things ultimately serve His divine purpose. The unfolding of this plan reflects God's mercy and grace as He draws His elect to Himself, making known His truth through Christ's finished work at the cross.

Ephesians 1:4-5

Why is the concept of God's mercy important for Christians?

God's mercy is crucial for Christians as it reflects His loving character and assures their salvation through Christ.

The concept of God's mercy is foundational in historic Reformed theology, as it demonstrates God's compassionate nature towards sinners. This mercy is made manifest in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, which fulfills God's promise to save His people. Romans 8:28-30 elucidates that all things work together for the good of those who love God, emphasizing that His mercy ensures that His promises are upheld despite human failure. Understanding God's mercy helps believers to live in gratitude and leads to a deeper appreciation of Christ's redemptive work at Calvary, which was fully accomplished for those who are chosen.

Romans 8:28-30

How do we know that Christ's work on the cross was sufficient for our salvation?

We know Christ's work was sufficient because it fulfilled God's covenant promises and secured eternal redemption for His elect.

The sufficiency of Christ's sacrificial work on the cross is a cornerstone of Reformed theology, as it is rooted in God's preordained plan of salvation. In Hebrews 10:12-14, we see that Christ, having offered one sacrifice for sins, sat down at the right hand of God, signifying the completeness and finality of His atonement. This act not only satisfies God's justice but also secures the eternal redemption of those whom He has chosen, providing believers with assurance that He will not lose any of His sheep (John 6:39). Thus, the efficacy of Christ’s sacrifice is celebrated in the belief that it perfectly reconciles the elect to God.

Hebrews 10:12-14, John 6:39

In this world RIGHT NOW (with all we see around us), ... there is really only one thing worthwhile going on!

The quickening of our Lord's lost sheep, ... one foreordained lamb at a time!   All the rest is simply supportive to THAT end.  Through all of the high-drama, political scrambling, wars and weddings, .... Our Lord's real focus is making known to His own what He had determined to do for them (and finished completely at the cross) from before the world began.

Esau is STILL serving Jacob by God's great design and plan, ... and His promise is STILL going forward in unfailing power!

What ever else we feel, see everywhere around us, and has our immediate attention, KNOW that all things promised are worked together for Christ's sake as He has mercy on the sons of Jacob in our day!  Because HE CHANGES NOT therefore they are not consumed, and will EACH come to the final FULL knowledge of the TRUTH!

That Truth IS the Lord Jesus Christ and what He completed at Calvary!
