What does the Bible say about free will?

The Bible emphasizes God’s sovereignty over free will, teaching that true freedom is found in submission to Him.

In Scripture, the concept of free will is often discussed in the context of God's sovereignty. For instance, in Ephesians 1:4-5, Paul highlights that God chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, demonstrating that our choices are ultimately under His divine plan. Understanding free will in this light affirms that while humans make decisions, those decisions are influenced and determined by God’s eternal decrees. This reinforces the idea that true freedom is found not in autonomy but in submitting to God's will and purposes.

Why is God's sovereignty important for Christians?

God's sovereignty assures Christians that He is in control of all things, offering hope and security in His plan.

The sovereignty of God is a foundational doctrine in Christian faith, particularly within sovereign grace theology. It reassures believers that everything occurs according to His divine will and purpose. As seen in Romans 8:28-30, all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose. This truth provides profound comfort, knowing that even trials and difficulties serve God’s ultimate plan for our salvation. Embracing God's sovereignty fosters a spirit of trust and reliance on His overarching authority in our lives.

How do we know that God's plan includes the elect?

Scripture clearly teaches that God has predestined the elect for salvation, ensuring His promises are fulfilled.

The doctrine of election holds a significant place in Reformed theology, asserting that God chooses certain individuals for salvation according to His sovereign will. Ephesians 1:4-5 speaks directly to this, emphasizing that we were chosen in Him before the foundation of the world. This teaching assures believers that salvation is not left to chance or human decision but is a part of God's eternal plan. Knowing that we are among the elect brings both assurance and responsibility, as it compels us to live in a manner befitting our calling while trusting in God’s sovereign grace.

Cutting down Asherim poles of free will and other works religions is not the same as building true altars to JESUS (YHWH Salvation). Polemics are like unto sledge-hammers. They are good for smashing the high places. But without positive gospel preaching (which is a balm of Gilead for laboring and heavy laden self-"sinners" - elect) you will just have ruins of Dagon worship, but not much of YHWH worship.

    You think about that.
