What does the Bible say about being born again?

The Bible teaches that one must be born again to see the kingdom of God (John 3:3).

In John 3:3, Jesus explicitly states, 'Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.' This passage indicates the necessity of a spiritual rebirth, which is not a merely human action but an act of divine grace. It emphasizes that understanding and entering God's kingdom is impossible without this new birth brought by the Holy Spirit.

Moreover, this rebirth is not something that can be achieved by human will or effort; as John 6:44 emphasizes, 'No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him.' This highlights the role of God's sovereign grace in the salvation process, affirming that it is ultimately God who draws people to Himself, enabling them to respond in faith.

How do we know the doctrine of irresistible grace is true?

The doctrine of irresistible grace is supported by Scripture, which states that no one can come to Jesus unless drawn by the Father (John 6:44).

Irresistible grace, a key component of the Reformed understanding of salvation, posits that when the Holy Spirit effectively calls a person to faith, they will inevitably respond. This is not based on human merit but rather on God's sovereign will and initiative. John 6:44 says, 'No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him.' This illustrates that God's drawing is not an external prompting but an internal transformation of the heart.

Furthermore, in John 6:65, Jesus reiterates, 'Therefore said I unto you that no man can come unto me except it were given unto him of my Father.' This reinforces the belief that the ability to respond affirmatively to the gospel is itself a gift from God. Therefore, those whom God chooses will come to know Christ, reflecting the truth of irresistible grace.

Why is acknowledging Jesus as Lord important for Christians?

Acknowledging Jesus as Lord is essential for salvation and spiritual life, as it requires the enabling of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3).

The acknowledgment of Jesus Christ as Lord is fundamental to the Christian faith. In 1 Corinthians 12:3, it is stated, 'No man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.' This indicates that true recognition of Christ's lordship comes through the work of the Holy Spirit, illustrating the necessity of His divine influence in a believer's heart. Without this enabling grace, no one can genuinely declare Jesus' sovereignty.

This acknowledgment is not merely verbal but is reflective of a transformed life lived under the authority of Christ. For Christians, recognizing Jesus as Lord impacts every aspect of their lives, including their purpose, conduct, and eternal destiny. It signifies a complete reliance on God's grace and signifies one's submission to His will, ultimately leading to spiritual growth and maturity.

1 Corinthians 12:3

There is a direct and inverse correlation between terminology and ideas expressed by it. If one uses expressions like "easy believism", one is teaching both himself and others, that believing the gospel is an easy thing which anyone can perform at their whim. But what does the Bible say?

"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot SEE the kingdom of God" (John 3:3).
"No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him..."(John 6:44)
"And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father" (John 6:65).
Wherefore I give you to understand, that...NO MAN can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost" (1 Cor. 12:3).

No one can see the kingdom of God in the face of Jesus Christ without being born again, from above, by the Spirit of God. No one can come to Jesus by faith, except the Father draws them. No one can do it, unless it is given to them by the Father (God). And NO MAN can acknowledge that Jesus is the Lord, except is enabled by the Holy Spirit.
