What does the Bible say about being a Christian?

The Bible teaches that becoming a Christian is not a decision made by man but an act of God in the life of the believer.

According to Scripture, a person does not become a Christian merely by making a conscious decision; rather, it is by God's sovereign grace that an individual is chosen and regenerated. Ephesians 1:4-5 highlights that God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world, emphasizing the divine initiative in salvation. This indicates that God is the one who marks out individuals for salvation and ensures their rebirth, making them true believers in Him.

Ephesians 1:4-5

How do we know that God's sovereignty in salvation is true?

God's sovereignty in salvation is affirmed throughout Scripture, demonstrating His control and purpose over who comes to faith.

The truth of God's sovereignty in salvation is evident in many passages of Scripture. Romans 8:28-30 outlines God's foreknowledge, predestination, calling, justification, and glorification of believers, showing His active role in the salvation process from start to finish. Furthermore, 2 Timothy 1:9 states that God has saved us and called us according to His own purpose and grace, indicating that our salvation is not based on our works but solely on His grace. This assurance of God's sovereign plan reinforces the understanding that He is actively involved in the salvation of His people.

Why is the concept of being born again important for Christians?

Being born again is crucial for Christians as it signifies spiritual regeneration and entrance into God's Kingdom.

The importance of being born again lies in its foundational role in the Christian faith. Jesus made it clear in John 3:3 that one must be born again to see the Kingdom of God, indicating the necessity of spiritual rebirth and transformation. This new birth is a work of the Holy Spirit, as seen in John 1:12-13, which teaches that those who believe in Christ are given the right to become children of God, born not of natural descent but of God Himself. Thus, being born again is vital because it signifies the beginning of a new life in Christ, characterized by faith and empowerment to live according to God's will.

John 3:3, John 1:12-13

A man does not become a Christian by making a decision.   He is made a Christian By God, who had marked him out before the foundation of the world and sees to it that he is born again and that he believes in Him.
