What does the Bible say about Antinomianism?

Antinomianism, which opposes the necessity of law for salvation, is warned against in the Bible, as true faith brings forth obedience.

The Bible addresses the issue of Antinomianism primarily by emphasizing the relationship between faith and works. In Romans 3:9, the Apostle Paul asserts that no one is better than the other in their sinful nature, highlighting the universal need for grace. Genuine faith, as depicted in James 2:26, is evidenced by works; thus, the rejection of law leads to an erroneous understanding of salvation. Righteousness is not achieved through legalism but is a fruit of true faith and the work of the Holy Spirit in believers’ lives, ensuring that they walk in obedience to God's commands while resting in His grace.

How do we know that preaching the Gospel accurately is important?

Accurate Gospel preaching is crucial as it faithfully conveys God’s message of salvation and ensures that true conversion occurs.

Preaching the Gospel in its entirety and with accuracy is essential for the proper understanding of salvation. According to the article, there is a danger of falling into Antinomianism when the Gospel is not presented distinctly and discriminately. Romans 3:9 reminds us that all have sinned, and it is in our acknowledgment of this truth that we embrace the need for Christ. The Gospel, when preached correctly, does not merely offer a generalized message to all but speaks directly to the hearts of the elect, ensuring that the message holds its distinguishing efficacy. Failure to do so can lead to superficial conversions or the misconception that holiness can be established outside of grace.

Why is holiness important for Christians?

Holiness is essential as it reflects the character of God and the transformative work of the Gospel in a believer's life.

Holiness is a significant aspect of the Christian life, underscoring the transformative power of the Gospel. As outlined in the content, holiness should not be misconstrued as merely a legalistic standard but should arise from a sincere response to God's grace. Antinomian tendencies may suggest that adherence to law negates grace; however, true holiness manifests when one understands that grace enables obedience. The relationship between faith and works affirms that while our salvation is not based on works, genuine faith produces holiness. This reflection of God's character is necessary for the Christian witness, indicating to the world the reality of Christ's transformative power.

Now don’t we see the same things oftentimes among the very Preachers, Pharisees and Professors? The Gospel converts them not, but angers them, as God said he would deal with the Jews by the Gospel. They know they must be emptied, ashamed, and most of what they have said and written and made a stir about, must go down, one time or another, if the Gospel be true; and this goes against the grain of flesh and blood. And as it was among the Jews, what they had been used to in Religion must go down if the Gospel was received, and nature could not buckle to the Gospel; so that they heard and heard, but gainsaying all for Antinomian that was Anti-Jewish. Why thus it has been among the Gentiles, and is so among us at this day. For are we better than they? Rom.3:9. As the Apostle says, no, in no wise. It is branded with Antinomianism if we preach the Gospel faithfully, discriminately, and leave it in the Spirit’s hand to carry it to the particularly redeemed with a Distinctive Efficacy, even to Salvation of their souls, among our hearers; and if we don’t offer Christ to all, without regarding Scripture Distinctions in limiting our message, and discriminating our doctrine, we fall {they pretend} into an Antinomian error. They are afraid that all holiness will go down, IF IT BE NOT SET UP IN THEIR LEGAL WAY; whereas I know holiness of truth {as distinguished from the cheat} actually does go down, so far as holiness is set up in their Arminian way.
