What does the Bible say about remembering God's faithfulness?

The Bible encourages believers to remember God's past faithfulness as a means of strengthening their faith.

Throughout Scripture, believers are called to remember the mighty acts of God and His unfailing faithfulness. In Psalm 105:5, we are instructed to 'Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered.' This act of remembrance serves to anchor our faith and provide hope in times of trial. When we recall how God has intervened in our lives and in history, we are inspired to trust Him more deeply in the present. Moreover, Jesus Himself instituted the Eucharist as a reminder of His sacrifice—'Do this in remembrance of me' (Luke 22:19)—signifying the importance of recalling God's grace embodied in Christ.

Why is remembering important for Christians?

Remembering is essential for Christians as it strengthens faith and fosters gratitude.

For Christians, remembering is vital for nurturing a robust faith and cultivating a heart of gratitude. The act of remembering helps us to reflect on our spiritual journey and understand how God has been at work in our lives. It provides a landscape of God's providential care and reminds us of the hope we have in Christ amid adversity. Culturally, we often forget the lessons taught by past experiences, but God's Word ironically encourages us to look back, so we don't lose sight of His continuous work in our lives. Deuteronomy 6:12 warns us, 'Then take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt,' highlighting the peril of forgetfulness and the necessity of intentional remembrance.

How do we know that God is faithful?

We know God is faithful through scripture, His promises, and His actions throughout history.

The faithfulness of God is demonstrated consistently throughout God's Word and is affirmed through His steadfast promises. Hebrews 10:23 encourages believers to hold fast to the confession of their hope 'without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.' Additionally, we see throughout biblical history how God remained true to His covenant with His people, exemplifying His commitment and reliability. Personal experiences of God's grace also serve as testimonies to His faithfulness, as believers recount instances when He has provided, protected, and upheld them in their trials. This combination of scriptural affirmation and personal testimony provides a firm foundation for believing in God's everlasting faithfulness.

It is good to be reminded!

I saw where there is a run on baby supplies. While thinking about it, I remembered my mother rinsing dirty diapers out in the toilet. And then I could smell the diaper pail in my mind!

And then she was teaching me how to fold the cloth diapers and pin them on my younger brothers.

And then I could hear her in the kitchen... singing to her Lord!

And then I remembered how she showed me... how a believer leaves this temporal world.
