What does the Bible say about salvation for the church?

The Bible teaches that salvation is solely for the Church of God, confirmed by God's promises without any conditions.

Scripture reveals that salvation is not based on human effort or conditions but on God's sovereign grace. According to the text, everyone who belongs to His Church is assured of repentance and mercy, illustrating God's unmerited favor. This understanding is rooted in the doctrines of grace, where the work of Christ is complete and unconditional. Passages such as Romans 8:28-30 emphasize God's sovereign plan of salvation, affirming that His Church will indeed cry out for mercy, demonstrating the transformative power of His grace in their lives.

Romans 8:28-30

How do we know God's grace is sufficient for salvation?

God's grace is sufficient because He saves His church completely and unconditionally, as proven by scripture.

The sufficiency of God's grace for salvation is evidenced through the biblical narrative that declares His commitment to redeem His Church without reliance on human merit. The text suggests that the call to repentance and faith is a result of God's prior work in the believer's heart, not a condition they must meet for salvation. This aligns with the Five Points of Dordrecht, particularly the doctrine of Total Depravity and Irresistible Grace, which affirm that those whom God has chosen will respond to His call without any conditions. Therefore, the assurance of salvation lies in God's faithful character rather than in human ability.

Ephesians 1:4-5

Why is unconditional election important for Christians?

Unconditional election assures Christians that their salvation rests entirely in God's sovereign choice, not human effort.

Unconditional election is a pivotal doctrine within sovereign grace theology because it emphasizes God's sovereignty in the plan of salvation. By predestining certain individuals to be saved, God initiates a relationship that is solely based on His will and purpose, negating the belief that human action can influence divine grace. This assurance provides comfort to believers, as they understand that their salvation is not contingent upon their performance or decisions, but rather upon the unfailing promises of God. Thus, Christians can have confidence in their eternal security, knowing they are kept by His power and purpose.

Ephesians 1:4-5

Now we hear in these days the heretical statements, "If men will repent," or "if men will only believe," or "if men will only fall in with God's promises", then God will save them. I deny such heresies as that. There are no "ifs" in the COVENANT. The work of Christ is done and done forever. There are NO conditions. It is not if men believe, if men repent, if men pray; but God, who has saved His church, has said that everyone of HIS CHURCH SHALL repent, pray, and that every "vessel of mercy afore prepared unto glory" shall cry out, under a crushing sense of individual sin and personal atrocity, "God be merciful to me a sinner." That is the test of being saved. This is not setting up a high or unscriptural standard. You are going to die! Have you the evidence in your souls of pardoned sin? Or do you long to have it from your inmost souls?

But why does He pardon these sins, these transgressions of His Church? "FOR MINE OWN SAKE." No merit in the creature - no deserving in the saved, who are just as bad as others. Was there any merit in Mary? In Manasseh? Or in Peter, when he denied his Lord? "I do not know the man!" That was not a slip of the tongue - slips of the tongue are not repeated twice! Peter repeated it a third time! And that with curses and oaths! Lord, what is man? Left to himself, where will not Peter go? Left to ourselves, where should we not every one of us go? This is the GOSPEL! "Smooth things" must not come from the pulpit. Salvation is only for the Church of God, and each saved sinner is kept safe forever by the mighty power of God!
