I Will Stretch Out My Hand

And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.  And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go. - Exodus 3:19-20

Some today are anxious over the rulers of this world.  The cure for anxious care is our sovereign God and Savior. (2 Cor 4:8-10; 2 Cor 4:16, 2 Cor 4:18) The Lord Jesus has told us beforehand what enemies shall do even as he told Moses.  But our sovereign Savior has also told us what he shall do: “I will stretch out my hand.”  Our Lord raises up every enemy we face.  He does it for the same reason the Lord raised Pharoah, “In very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth” (Ex 9:16).  It is for the benefit of God’s vessels of mercy (Rom 9:22-24). Everything that comes to pass has always been under God’s sovereign control, even the king’s heart. The devil, the fall, the crucifixion of Christ, the rejection we encounter today, all is the means God uses to show us the wonders of his saving grace as he delivers us from every enemy. If we would have the cure for anxious care then let us fill our ears with God’s word rather than the noise of this world.
