The word Selah occurs seventy-two times in the book of Psalms and three times in the book of Habakkuk and has been troublesome to some translators. But it is believed by most to mean a musical pause and by others to lend emphasis to a certain statement (such as amen or forever). When reading the scriptures aloud to others, it is not necessary to read the word “Selah” unless some explanation is also offered.
