There is no life eternal apart from union with the Lord Jesus. The Father put the “promise of life” and all other promises in Christ. He is our life, and the sum of the gospel is that all who believe on him have eternal life. The beginning of life is found in Christ, the continuation of that life is continuing in the faith of Christ, and the ultimate perfection of that life is being made like Christ eternally. “And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming” (1 John 2:28).
