When the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Scotland could not find a man to go as a missionary to the South Seas, John Paton, a famous Bible teacher in Glasgow, resolved to go. When they learned of his resolve, all his friends besieged him with opposition. “The cannibals,” said one. “You will be eaten by cannibals!” Firm in his determination to go in spite of all the opposition, John Paton said, “I confess to you that if I can but live and die serving and honoring the Lord Jesus Christ, it will make no difference to me whether I am eaten by cannibals or by worms; and in the great day my resurrection body will arise as fair as yours in the likeness of our risen Redeemer.”
