    In my sermons to you I have nothing to offer and no invitation to make. It is mine to preach to you the Lord Jesus Christ as I know and feel him to be precious to my own soul, and to the hearts of all his eternally-loved and blood-bought people, begging the Spirit of God to open the heart, give you eyes to see, ears to hear and a heart to understand that glorious gospel of the grace of God in Christ Jesus.

    Joseph Irons wrote:

“Tis by divine anointing,
Ransomed sinners know the Lord;
Gospel truths to Christ Jesus pointing,
Rest upon the preached word!”

    So, my dear friends and assembled hearers, “I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified" (Acts 20:32).
