Beckett examines God's love as an infinite, eternal divine attribute that constitutes His very nature rather than an emotion subject to human limitations. Drawing on passages including 1 John 4:8, 2 Timothy 1:9, Jeremiah 31:3, and Romans 8:35-39, she establishes that God's love is unchanging, without beginning or end, sovereignly extended to His elect before the foundation of the world, and absolutely inseparable from His people. The author emphasizes that while God's love bears similarities to human affections, it is fundamentally different—perfect, infinite, and grounded in His immutable nature rather than circumstantial emotion.

This unfathomable attribute of God, love, is one that we will never fully comprehend in this life and will in eternity just begin to know, the vast, immeasurable, infinite love of God. His love is divine and I tread in awe, in humility before Him as I search and journey through His revelation of Himself, the Word, to embrace this most profound doctrine. I certainly won’t do it great justice, but I am compelled, in my simple way, to read of it, to rejoice in it and to dwell on it.
We are rightly taught that God is not afflicted with emotions as we are so we know that the love of God is not defined as the world would love to define it, nor patterned after human emotions. Ascribed to Him are some things that are similar to affections in us, such as love, pity, hatred, anger, etc but they are vastly different than our own affections. There is no imperfection in any of His attributes or His affections. So often we are exhorted to understand what the attributes of God are not so that we don’t try and make Him altogether like us, and so we are afraid to speak of His love, hesitant to offend our most Holy God and yet He has created us that we might rightly know Him and love Him.
“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. ( 1 John 4:8)
Love is an attribute of God but more than that His Word tells us that He is love, it is His very nature.
The love of God is eternal, it is without beginning and without end. His love towards His elect is eternal.
“Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the foundation of the world. (2 Timothy 1:9)
“In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began. (Titus 1:2)
The love of God is everlasting, enduring forever.
“The Lord hath appeared of old unto me saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. (Jeremiah 31:3)
“For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee. (Isaiah 54:10)
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ…………….For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, or powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:35 a, 38, 39)
“having loved His own which were in the world, He loved them unto the end” (John 13:1b)
He loves us to the end, the end of our lives, the end of time and to all eternity.
