The Emperor Napoleon was reviewing his troops in front of his palace in Paris. As he was giving his orders, he let go of the reins of his horse, which immediately ran off. A Private of the line, a strong and agile man, leaped in front of the horse, skillfully seized hold of the bridle, and returned it to the Emperor, who said to him, “Thank you, captain!” Without hesitation the soldier asked, “What regiment, sir?” “My guards,” answered his emperor!
This illustrates what it means to take someone at his word who is trustworthy. If I do not see in myself the evidence, the results of what God has promised, do I have the right to believe it? Yes, because he said it. This soldier was not dressed as a captain, but he was a captain: the king said so!
