How do we know Jesus is our Redeemer?

Answered in 3 sources

Jesus is our Redeemer because He fulfills all the requirements of a kinsman redeemer: He is a near relative, able to pay the price, and willingly chooses to redeem us.

Jesus meets all the criteria set forth in the Old Testament for a kinsman redeemer, making Him the perfect Redeemer for humanity. First, He is a near relative; as Hebrews 2:14 states, Jesus shared in our flesh and blood, taking on human nature to be a true kin. Second, He is able to pay the price; no one but Christ has the authority and capacity to satisfy the debt of sin. In 1 Peter, we are reminded that we were redeemed, not with things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, emphasizing the sufficiency of His sacrifice. Lastly, He willingly chose to redeem us. Unlike the closer redeemer in Ruth's story who refused out of costliness, Jesus accepted the cross for the joy set before Him, demonstrating His willingness to bear our shame and wrath. These truths assure us that Christ is indeed our Redeemer.
