How do we know prayer is effective?

Answered in 7 sources

Scripture assures us that prayer is effective because it connects believers with the righteous Lord who hears and answers their cries.

The effectiveness of prayer is rooted in the belief that God hears the prayers of His people and is responsive to their needs. In Psalm 4, David’s appeal to God demonstrates his confidence that he will receive help from the Lord. This conviction stems from a theological understanding of God’s character—that He is a righteous and just judge who cares for his creation and intervenes proactively in the lives of His followers.

Moreover, the New Testament reinforces this notion, highlighting the importance of faith in asking for and receiving from God. For instance, Jesus taught that asking it shall be given, seeking it shall be found (Matthew 7:7). This interaction reflects God's desire for His children to commune with Him, fostering a deep relationship through prayer. Hence, prayer is effective not merely for obtaining answers but also for aligning one's heart with God's will, and thereby experiencing His peace and guidance which surpasses understanding.
