What does the Bible say about seeking God?

In Matthew 7:7-8, Christ instructs His disciples to ask, seek, and knock, promising that those who do so will receive and find what they seek. This promise is not a blanket assurance to all of humanity, but specifically to those who are His disciples—those who have been regenerated and granted the ability to hear and respond to His call. The act of seeking is shown to be a response of the regenerated heart, compelled by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the biblical assurance of finding God when one seeks Him is a promise intended for those in covenant relationship with Him, specifically His chosen people.
