Why is the concept of mortification important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Mortification is crucial for Christians as it involves putting to death the sinful nature to live in accordance with the Spirit.

Mortification, or the act of putting to death our earthly desires, is essential in the life of a believer as it aligns with Paul's exhortation in Colossians 3:5 to 'mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth'. This process is vital not just for personal holiness but also for actively living out our new identity in Christ. The more we focus on Christ—who is our life—the better equipped we are to resist our fleshly temptations and pursue Spirit-led living, as seen in Romans 8:13, where the mortification of sin leads to life.
