How do we know that sanctification is by faith and not by works?

Answered in 1 source

Sanctification, like righteousness, is fully attained by faith in Christ, not through our own efforts.

The distinction between works and faith in relation to sanctification is crucial in understanding sovereign grace theology. Romans 4:5 makes it clear that we are justified by faith apart from works, and this principle extends to our sanctification as well. Just as we do not achieve righteousness through our own labor, we cannot achieve sanctification by our efforts. Many believers mistakenly seek to attain sanctification through their struggles and resolutions, yet the true source of sanctification is in Christ alone. When we embrace our identity in Christ, we receive the fullness of what He has accomplished, including both righteousness and sanctification. Therefore, our peace and assurance come from faith in what Christ has already achieved for us.
