How do we know the seriousness of sin is true?

Answered in 2 sources

The seriousness of sin is confirmed by the suffering of Christ, who endured it to provide salvation.

We ascertain the seriousness of sin not only through its consequences but most vividly through the suffering of Jesus Christ. As stated in Isaiah 53:5, Christ was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities. The depth of His anguish and sacrifice demonstrates that sin is not a light matter. The fact that the Son of God had to endure such agony signifies that the ramifications of sin are monumental. Thus, the seriousness of sin is intrinsically linked to the cost of redemption, which is the suffering of our Savior.
