What does the Bible say about being loosed from the law?
Answered in 1 source
The Bible teaches that through Christ's death and resurrection, we are freed from the dominion and curse of the law.
Romans 7:2 illustrates that believers are released from the law in a manner similar to a woman who is freed from the marriage bond when her husband dies. Just as the law was a ministration of condemnation and guilt, through Christ's death, those who believe are considered dead to the law. This means that the dominion the law once held over them is broken, allowing them to enter a new covenant relationship with Christ. Through His resurrection, believers are empowered to serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter, emphasizing the transformative grace afforded to them.
Additionally, the law can no longer condemn or accuse those who are in Christ. As Paul explains, 'For the woman which hath a husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth, but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.' In the same way, believers find that their former obligations have been annulled through Christ, permitting them to be united to Him, who has fulfilled the law in every respect. Therefore, freedom from the law is crucial to understanding the believer's new identity and relationship to God.
