Good morning again. 1 Corinthians 1, verse 23, but
we preach Christ crucified. unto the Jews, a stumbling block,
and unto the Greeks, foolishness. But unto them which are called,
both Jews and Greeks, Christ, the power of God, Christ, the
wisdom of God. Pray the Lord will enable us
this morning to see Christ. who speak clearly of Him and
rejoice in Him. Let's stand together. Tom, you
come lead us. The hymn on the back of your bulletin. ? Hark how the gospel trumpet sounds
? ? Christ and free grace therein abound ? ? Free grace to such
as sinners be ? ? And if free grace, why not for me ? The Savior
died, and by His blood brought rebel sinners home to God. He died to set the captives free. Then why, my soul, why not for
me? Christ Jesus came the poor to
bless, to clothe them with his righteousness. The robe is spotless, full and
free. Then why, my soul, why not for
me? ? Eternal life by Christ is given
? ? And ruined sinners raised to heaven ? ? Then sing of grace
so rich and free ? ? And say, my soul, why not for thee? ? Please be seated. Good morning. If you would turn
with me to Psalm 116. I love the Lord because he has
heard my voice and my supplications because he has inclined his ear
unto me. Therefore, will I call upon him
as long as I live. The sorrows of death come past
me, and the pains of hell get hold upon me. I found trouble
and sorrow. Then I called upon the name of
the Lord. O Lord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul. Gracious is
the Lord, and righteous. Yea, our God is merciful. The
Lord preserveth the simple. I was brought low, and he helped
me. Return unto thy rest, O my soul,
for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee. For thou hast delivered
my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling. I will walk before the Lord in
the land of the living. I believed, therefore I have
spoken. I was greatly afflicted. I said in my haste, all men are
liars. What shall I render unto the
Lord for all his benefits towards me? I will take the cup of salvation
and call upon the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows under
the Lord now in the presence of all his people. Precious in
the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. O Lord,
truly I am thy servant. I am thy servant and the son
of thine handmaid. Thou hast loosed my bonds. I
will offer thee the sacrifice of Thanksgiving, and will call
upon the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows unto the Lord
now in the presence of all his people. In the courts of the
Lord's house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem, praise ye
the Lord. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you
for gathering us together and sending us a man to proclaim
your word Please give, Greg, and all the men that stand before
your people today liberty and boldness to speak the truth that
you've given to them. Open our understanding to all
the blessings that you've given us in our lives, and give us
your grace and mercy. In Christ's name we pray, amen. Let's all stand together once
again. We'll sing the hymn number 34 in your Spiral Gospels hymn,
hymnal number 34. It is finished. Sinners hear
it. Hear the dying Saviors cry. Hear the Lord himself declare
it. Justice has been satisfied. It is finished, go proclaim it
to poor sinners far and wide. Holy Spirit, make them hear it. Jesus Christ for sinners died. It is finished, all is over,
Jesus drank damnation dry. What a Savior, what a Savior,
see Him now exalted high. It is finished. Look, behold
Him, seated at His Father's side. Yonder on the throne, behold
Him, Christ our Substitute who died. It is finished, hear him
pleading, As our advocate on high, His own blood's great merit
pleading, Pleading justice satisfied. It is finished, can you hear
him? All the work is fully done. Now believing, looking to him,
we are saved by God's own Son. Please be seated. That is our testimony, and what
a glorious one it is. It is finished. All that God
requires for the salvation of his people was accomplished by
the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ on Calvary's cross.
He laid his life down for his sheep. God saw the travail of
his soul, and God said, I'm satisfied. Nothing else. Nothing else is
required. Faith, my friend, is just simply
being satisfied with that which God is satisfied with. Not adding
anything to or taking anything away from the finished work of
the Lord Jesus Christ. Looking to him alone for all
your salvation. That's an impossible thing to
do apart from God's grace. The natural man, he won't be
satisfied with Christ. He'll want to look to Christ
plus something else. Paul said, I'm persuaded that
he is able all by himself to keep that, which I've, and that
word committed means entrusted. I got all my eggs in one basket.
I'm trusting Christ alone to be my salvation before God. I'm persuaded that he's able,
and I'm not, to keep that which I've committed unto him against
that day. What day is he talking about?
The day of judgment. The day of judgment. Against
that day of judgment, I'm Believing Christ to be my advocate with
the Father, to be my Savior. The Father said to him, sit down
here at my right hand until I make all thine enemies thy footstool.
For I have made thee a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. The Lord Jesus Christ, as we
just sang, is our high priest and he's our intercessor and
he's our sin bearer. He's our substitute and he's
all and he's in all. And that's exactly what I want
to try to preach to you this morning from Acts chapter 20,
if you'll turn with me there in your Bibles. The apostle Paul
is finishing up his third missionary journey and he's on his way back
to Jerusalem from where he will be sent to Rome and he will eventually
die. And he's summarizing his ministry. And he gathers together all the
elders from that region. These elders did not just come
from the city of Ephesus. They came from all the different
churches that were in that area, about a 35-40 mile radius, the
scripture explains it by naming the cities. And here, after he
gets these elders together, he says in verse 20, and how I kept
back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have showed you
and have taught you publicly and from house to house testify. This is the testimony of the
church. We looked at this Wednesday night
and some of us came from religious backgrounds where testimonies
were nothing more than men standing up and calling attention to themselves
and putting a veil of piety over it by acting like they were being
spiritual when really they were just tooting their own horns.
They were talking about their experience and what they were
doing and what they're no longer doing. And then, you know, this
is the testimony. Those things are nothing but
fleshly ways that men pretend to be religious. This is the
testimony. Testifying both to the Jews and
also to the Greeks, repentance towards God and faith toward
our Lord Jesus Christ. Now, repentance and faith always
go together. They are two sides of the same
coin. They are, as I said in the first hour, breathing. They
are exhaling and inhaling. That is repentance and faith. And they are the work of the
spirit of God. They're a miracle of grace that
takes place in the heart. You don't decide you're going
to repent. God gives you a change of mind and your mind is changed
as to who God is. You no longer look at him as
one who is altogether as yourself. You no longer look at him as
one who's trying to save but can't get it done. Now you've
been given a new mind and you realize that God is holy and
just and sovereign and omnipotent and he's not trying to get anything
done. He's actually accomplishing everything
he purposes to do. You have a different understanding
of yourself. You don't believe that there's
anything that you have. that would be acceptable in the
sight of God. Whereas before you thought you
had sin and then you thought you had some good things. Now
God has given you repentance and you know that everything
about you is sinful and you dare not offer any of it to God for
your righteousness. You have a different understanding
as to who Christ is and what he accomplished. You don't see
him as making an offer of salvation to man. You understand now that
he offered himself to his father and the father accepted his offer
and that the work that he accomplished is a finished work of redemption
for all of God's elect. You have a different understanding
as to how God remits your sin and how he forgives sinners and
makes them right in his sight, not by works of righteousness,
which we have done, not by our prayers, not by our efforts,
but by the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ. God gives
repentance. It's a changed mind. And the
means by which he gives that repentance is the preaching of
the gospel. Thus saith the Lord. And then
he marries that word with faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing
comes by the word of God. Of his own will begat he us with
the word of truth. So God anoints his word with
his spirit and causes his people to believe it. And in so doing
gives them repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord
Jesus Christ. That's the testimony of the church,
and that's every believer's testimony. And it is not an exaggeration,
nor is it an oversimplification to say that the gospel of God's
free grace in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ and
in his glorious person is for all people of all ages and addresses
all sin that lead to all our problems. Christ is all. Notice what Paul says here. I
did not hold anything back to the Jews or to the Greeks, but
I testified clearly and simply repentance towards God and faith
toward the Lord Jesus Christ. I preach the gospel. I'm sure the little bit of experience
I've had and going to the doctor and I know you have with other
people and that practicing medicine, one of the most difficult parts
of it is giving a proper diagnosis. If you could get a proper diagnosis,
then you can offer some treatment. Well, the gospel is the, sin
is the diagnosis and the gospel is the treatment, period. Can you imagine going to a doctor
and he's only got one prescription in his medicine chest, and people
come to him with heart problems, and people come with him with
cancer, and people come with him with a broken leg, and he
gives them the same prescription. You say, well, that's a quack.
What if every person that took that prescription was healed,
regardless of their ailments? You see, I preach this to the
Jews and to the Greeks, to those who have the scriptures and those
who don't have the scriptures, to the religious and to the irreligious. I preach the same gospel because
it is the answer to everything. It is what the Lord said to Mary,
or to Martha about Mary when he said, Mary has chosen that
one thing needful. One thing needful. What was Mary? She was sitting at the feet of
the Lord Jesus Christ, listening to him, hearing him and believing
him. And what was Martha doing? Oh,
she was like so many times we are, encumbered with so many
things. we were talking about this before
the service, you know, it's not just, it's not just shameful
sins that take us away from Christ. It's, you know, it's things that
are necessary, things that are, that are not necessarily shameful,
things that are legal, things that are moral, you know, but
it, if Satan can use anything. And
the flesh is weak and Satan is very deceptive. What did he say?
I fear lest by as Eve was deceived of the serpent that you mind
would be taken away from the simplicity that is in Christ. The simplicity that is in Christ.
There's so many things to distract the mind from the simplicity
that is in Christ. There's so many things that'll
take our hearts away. from the simplicity that is in
Christ. It's not just our, it's not just
our illegal things that would take us away from the simplicity
that's in Christ. It's oftentimes things like Martha
was doing, caring for the needs of others and just becoming encumbered
with so many affairs. And how easy that is to happen,
isn't it? We get our plates full and too
many irons in the fire and We got this to take care of and
that to take care of. And, and, and we find ourselves
looking away and not trusting one thing needful. Paul said
in first Corinthians chapter two, I determined. Now I liked
the way he said that. Paul was an extremely educated
man. He was very intellectual. And yet here's what he said.
I determined, I could have talked to you about a lot of subjects.
We could have interacted and had interesting conversations
about many things, but I determined not to know anything among you
save Jesus Christ and him crucified. Everything else was frivolous.
Everything else was, there's what we have to have. Paul said,
I held nothing back from you. But I testified to the Jews and
to the Greeks, and those two groups of people were so much
different than any two groups of people that we know of today.
They hated one another. Their culture was different,
their religion was different, and you know, they didn't have
the social, whatever prejudice men have today, they're tempered
by by social pressures not to be that way. No, they took pride
in their prejudice and in their hatred for one another. There
were no social mores that held them back. The more prejudiced
you were, the more virtuous you were. Paul said, I preach the
same message to both groups. Galatians chapter six, verse
14, Paul said, but God forbid that I should glory, save in
the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified
to me, and I unto the world, and as many as walk according
to this rule, this rule, peace be on them and mercy upon
the Israel of God. Not glorying in anything but
Christ. If the eye be single, the whole
body's full of light. Come unto me. Isn't that what
the Lord said? He said, go there, do that and
fix this. And now come to me, all you that
labor and are heavy laden, whatever the problem. The gospel is the
one hope for all people of all ages and is the one answer, the
one prescription for all our problems. Those who have the scriptures,
those who don't. Those who are religious, those
who are irreligious. The moral or the immoral. See, that's what he's saying.
I preached the same message. I didn't adjust my message for
this group or that group. Why? Because there's one message.
To the Muslim, to the Hindu, to the Jew, to the atheist, to
whoever they are, whatever their religious background, I preached
repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. To the American, to the Mexican,
to the Russian, preached the same message. Same message. To the teenager,
To the middle-aged person, to the senior adult, generations
don't matter. Generations do not matter. To
a modern-day man or to the man of antiquity, it doesn't matter. The gospel hasn't changed. It's
the same message. I testified both to the Jews
and to the Greeks repentance towards God and faith toward
the Lord Jesus Christ. To the wealthy or to the poor? To the educated or to the uneducated? To the board member or to the
floor sweeper? It's the same message. Well,
that makes my job easy. You know, in that regard, it
does. A lot of things about it otherwise,
but in that regard, the message, I like what Henry Mahan told,
when Kevin Thacker was here, Kevin went to Henry when he first
started thinking about being a preacher and Henry said, son,
he said, if you can find anything else to do, do it. And I could
understand that, but the message, Christ and Him crucified. And it is the answer to everything. Everything. Man hasn't changed. Man's the
same today as he ever was. I hear people sometimes say,
well, you know, you need to make the gospel relevant to culture. I want to say this as clearly
and simply as I know how to say it. Culture has absolutely nothing
to do with the gospel. Nothing. Zero. Why do we want to make the gospel
relevant to the culture? Why do we want to package the
gospel in a way that it's going to be appealing to the modern
man? No, our task is to unpackage
the gospel, not package it. Not to try to make it relevant
to culture. The gospel's relevant to every
area of your life and my life. We don't have to make the gospel
relevant. We just preach the gospel. And Christ will change
everything in your life and affect every part of your life and be
the answer to every need in your life. Isn't that glorious? You know, we may become more
sophisticated in sinning. We may excuse things and even
celebrate things that used to be looked down on, but in the
end, the heart of man is still the same. Still the same. He's still rebelling against
God. He's still defiant and guilty and need of a savior. The heart is
just as wicked and deceitful as it's ever been. See, that's
where sin is, isn't it? You lock yourself up in a closet
all by yourself and you just took your sin in there with you.
Sin is not the influences of society. It's not that we got
to figure out how to apply the Bible to the modern day cultural
problems. No, sin is here. It's in the
heart. Man's heart hasn't changed. It's
the same as it's always been. The heart is just as wicked and deceitful
as it's ever been. Let me show you, turn with me
to Colossians chapter three. Colossians chapter three, verse 11 or verse 10. and to put on the new man, which
is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created
him, where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised,
barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free, but Christ is all and in
all." Now, as a modern day illustration,
you know who the Scythians were? They were the most brash barbarians
of that day. They would invade cities and
towns and countries without any regard or without any excuse. Guess where they lived? Modern
day Russia. Has man changed? Christ is all, and he's in all. You know, your carnal mind is still empty, enmity
toward God. Cannot please God, cannot know
God. And notice in the passage, it
doesn't say the carnal mind is at enmity with God. The carnal
mind is enmity with God. That's the fleshly mind. That's
the mind that we're born with. That's the nature that we have.
And it's all at enmity with God. So that hasn't changed. Man is still raising his fist
toward heaven in rebellion against God. Unbelief, unbelief is still
the cause of all of our sin. We're still in need of being
reconciled to God. And Christ is all. He's all in
creation. The scripture says that he made
all things and without him was not anything made that was made. So he's all in creation. God
said, let there be light. And the light was Christ. because
we know that it wasn't until the fourth day of creation that
the sun and the stars and the moon were created. So let there
be light was the first thing. Christ is all in creation. None
of creation could happen without him. He created all things and
without him, without not anything made that was made, and he made
all things for himself. So when the scripture says Christ
is all, he's all in creation. He's all in providence. He's
working all things after the counsel of his will. For the good and for the salvation
of his people. Whether it be a pandemic or whether
it be a nuclear war, our God is on his throne and he's in
control. And he's working all things together for good. for them that love him and those
that are the called according to his purpose. It's not going
to be good for everybody, but it's going to be good for God's
people. It's going to be good for God's people. He's all in election, chosen
in Christ before the foundation of the world. salvation, Christ
is all. God looked at his Son and accepted
his people in his Son before the foundation of the world.
Christ is all in salvation. He's all in Revelation, in the
volume of the book it is written of me. And beginning with Moses
and the Psalms and the prophets, he expounded unto them those
things concerning himself. You search the scriptures. This
is such a description of religious people. It was a description
of my life for many years. You search the scriptures because
you think in them, you have eternal life. And these are they which
testify of me. missed the meaning of scripture
altogether, turned the Bible into nothing more than a rule
book for Christian living or a doctrinal statement of theology
or some historical book. You know, no, it is a revelation
of Christ. Christ is all in revelation. God is revealing the glory and
the person and the work of his son in his word. Thus saith the
Lord. He's all in redemption. He accomplished
the redemption of his people all by himself. When he bore
all their sins in his body upon Calvary's tree. When the sword
of God's justice was plunged into the heart of God's only
son. And he cried, it's finished.
everything that God required. Christ is all. I testified unto
the Jews and unto the Greeks, unto all men, the same exact
message, same exact message. We were out of the country recently
and had a man in Dominican Republic listen to one of our messages
and another man from Russia, By the way, this guy lives in
Moscow, and I asked him, I said, was Putin going to invade Ukraine? He said, nah, he's not going
to do that. I thought, well, either this guy knows something
or he doesn't know something. Well, obviously, he was influenced
by the propaganda. And all he knew was the information
that he was getting from the propaganda of the Russian government,
because Putin intended all along to invade Ukraine. He thought,
no, he's not going to do that. This was a man of some influence
in Moscow that told me that three weeks ago. You know what that illustrates
to me? The propaganda of the false gospel. You know, men will believe what
they're told, they'll believe what they hear, and they'll swallow
it hook, line, and sinker, and they'll be damned for it. And
I would say to you at this point, Don't believe me. Be like the
Bereans. Search the scriptures to see
if what I'm telling you is true. Because thus saith the Lord,
God spoke. And we just, when we preach,
that's what Paul said, I held back nothing. I declared unto
you the whole counsel of God, the testimony of the gospel.
Repentance towards God and faith towards the Lord Jesus Christ,
because that's the message for all men of all ages, in all circumstances,
and ultimately corrects everything. Everything. The Lord Jesus Christ is all
in regeneration. He's all in regeneration. And
so I thought the Holy Spirit had, was, was one that would
breathe life into our souls. Yes, and what does he do when
he does? He points us exclusively to the Lord Jesus Christ. He's
all in regeneration. If you've been born of the Spirit,
if you've been born from above, if you've been born of God, it's
because the Spirit of God pointed you to rest all the hope of your
salvation in the glorious person and finished work of his Son,
to testify them to you, repentance towards God and faith toward
the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ is all. And we preach
this to the Scythians and to the circumcised and uncircumcised,
to the Jews and the Greeks of all ages and all generations
and culture has absolutely nothing to do with it. It is a matter
of the heart. the heart of man has not changed. He's all in sanctification. We
are sanctified through the offering of the body of the Lord Jesus
Christ once and for all. Sanctification is not something
you contribute to. It's not, well, he's going to
do his part, you do your part. That's where we, you know, some
of us used to be We said we believed in the five points of Calvinism,
but we've got the works in there on the issue of sanctification,
progressive sanctification. You know, you can be better if
you'll just do your part. He's all in sanctification. He's all in glorification. Scripture
says that that we've been chosen and called and sanctified and
glorified, past tense, glorified. That means that as the scripture
goes on to say, we are in the heavenlies in Christ right now. When the Lord Jesus Christ ascended
back into glory, he took with him those for whom he lived and
died. So they are found in him right
now, right now. And he is our glorification before
God. We're just waiting to discover
it, aren't we? And when we close our eyes in death and God sends
his angels to take us into glory, we're not going to look around
and say, well, isn't this wonderful? And try to compare what we're
seeing now to what we had in this world. No, we're going to
discover that we've always been there. always been there. I don't accept, ask me to explain
that to you. Cause we think of, we think of
everything in terms of time and space because we live in this,
in this restricted life of time and space. But in eternity, the
scripture says time will be no more. Time will be no more. So we break out of time completely
when we, when we die and we will discover that we've always been
there. Always. Christ is all and he's in all. My brethren, what is your need?
Be forgiven? Christ is all in that. To be
able to forgive? Christ is all in that too. To have peace with God? Christ
is all. To have peace with man? Christ
is all in that too. To have the peace of God, Christ
is all. This is the testimony. To have peace of mind. Somebody
said, well, I just need peace of mind. Christ is all. He's
all in that. To be made right with God, Christ
is all. To be reconciled as much as you're
able to with someone else in this world, Christ is all in
that. To be delivered from the penalty
of sin, Christ is all. To be delivered from the power
of sin, Christ is all in that too. See, it's the same message. It
doesn't matter what the need is. Same message, same person. To have hope for your soul, Christ
is all in that. To have some hope, young person
especially, some of us old folks don't worry about this much anymore,
but to have hope for your future, Christ is all in that too. For the ability to believe God,
Christ is all. For help in your unbelief, Christ
is all in that. I held back nothing, Paul said,
but I testified both to the Jews and to the Greeks. Repentance
toward God, faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. Nothing's
changed. Nothing has changed. spiritual or physical, eternal
or temporal, the needs of this life or the life to come, Christ
Jesus the Lord is all. He's all. If we look anywhere else, why is this so glorious? Because
God hasn't changed. God has not changed. I change
not, you sons of Jacob, therefore you're not consumed. I am the
same yesterday, today, and forever. Our God is the only one and the
only thing that the word, you know, we use this word immutable.
Nothing is immutable but God. Everything else is changing,
but our God doesn't change. His justice hasn't changed. His
demand for the penalty of sin has not changed. His holiness
has not changed. His sovereignty has not changed.
His power has not changed. His love for his people has not
waned or diminished one bit, one bit. He's the same. That's why the gospel doesn't
change, because God doesn't change. He still demands perfect obedience.
He still demands justice. And his son is the only one that
can satisfy that demand. Nothing has changed. And I pray that the Lord would
find us faithful to be able to say, I held nothing back. I testified the same thing. And
I'm not talking about me individually. I'm talking about us as a church.
Remember this preaching thing is not a one man activity. We do this together. The Lord
will find us faithful to say, we testified to the Jew and to
the Greek, repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord
Jesus Christ. In every situation, for every
need, Christ is all. Amen. Our heavenly Father, Make
your word, we pray, for Christ's sake, effectual to our hearts,
forgive us of our sin, and cause us to hang all our hopes on thy
dear son. For it's in his name we pray,
amen. 212 in the hardback tenor, let's
stand together, number 212. What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Oh, precious is the flow that
makes me white as snow. No other fount I know, nothing
but the blood of Jesus. For my pardon, this I see, nothing
but the blood of Jesus. For my cleansing, this my plea,
nothing but the blood of Jesus. Oh, precious is the flow that
makes me white as snow. No other fount I know, nothing
but the blood of Jesus. ? Nothing can for sin atone ?

190 together. so We bless the name of Jesus Christ. We bless him for his holy word,
who loved to do his father's will and all his righteousness

for about 20 years, and today is the very first time that he's
ever been in a public worship service. Very first time. He's been listening. He knows
most of y'all. He's been listening to our messages, hundreds of
them, for 20 years. He came here today to profess
his faith in baptism. And I'm so very, very thankful. Like I said, yesterday, as soon
as I picked him up, because I'd never met him before, we just
talked, and he said, you're the first believer I've ever met
in my life. So, this is a dear, dear brother. I want y'all to encourage him
because he's got to go back to the wilderness after today and
uh if he could, he'd be here with you. Uh right now, the lord
has him where he is. So, we rejoice in our lord's
work of grace in your heart and we In the name of the Father, and
of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, buried with Christ. Raised to walk a new life in
Christ Jesus. All God's people said, Amen. Amen. You want to sing, Adam? OK. Let me get Adam. Let me get Larry out of here. See the table spread before you

and retrieved us from the fall. Let us ne'er forget the promise
Jesus made to come again. Soon he comes, our King, to call
us home. To glory praise his name. With this hope and expectation
We rejoice to keep this feast Celebrating our redemption Till
we lean on Jesus' breast
