Good evening. Let's open tonight's
service with hymn number 22 from your Spiral Gospel Hymns hymn
book. Number 22, For the Glory of His
Grace. And let's all stand together.
Number 22. Bye. We were ruined by the fall. Adam's sin defiles us all. By our deed as by our birth,
we deserve the law's great curse. Helpless, hopeless sinners we,
never can our souls retrieve. But the blessed Son of God Came
as man in flesh and blood He fulfilled the law's demands And
in death stretched out his hands On the cross of Calvary Christ
redeemed and set us free In the time which God had set, the Spirit
came for His elect to regenerate and call from the ruin of the
fall. By His power and by His grace,
we were born for God's own praise. ? Now your purpose we fulfill
? ? Saved according to your will ? ? Sing this song of joyful
praise ? ? For the glory of your grace ? ? Blessed, holy, triune
God ? ? Hear our praise through Christ our Lord ? Please be seated. Evening, let's open our Bibles
to Exodus chapter 12 for our call to worship Exodus chapter
12. Titled the message tonight. Nothing. Nothing but the blood
of Jesus, nothing. Exodus chapter 12, beginning
at verse five, your lamb shall be without blemish. A male of
the first year, you shall take it out from the sheep or from
the goats and you shall keep it until the 14th day of the
same month. And the whole assembly of the
congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. And they shall take of the blood
and strike it on the two-side post and on the upper door post
of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. And they shall eat the
flesh in that night, roast with fire and unleavened bread, and
with bitter herbs they shall eat it. Eat not of it raw, nor
sodden it at all with water." Now water the gospel down. but roast with fire his head,
with his legs, and with the pertinence thereof. And you shall let none
of it remain until the morning, and that which remaineth a bit
until the morning, you shall burn with fire. And thus shall
you eat it, with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, your
staff in your hand, and you shall eat it in haste. This is a matter that requires
great haste. It's an urgent matter. You shall
eat it in haste. It is the Lord's Passover. For I will pass through the land
of Egypt this night and will smite all the firstborn in the
land of Egypt, both man and beast. And against all the gods of Egypt,
I will execute judgment. I am the Lord. And the blood
shall be to you for a token upon the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will
pass over you. And the plague shall not be upon
you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt." One thing
God was looking for. One thing, one thing only, blood. Digna is leaving Friday to head
to Tampa. So if you wanted to see her tomorrow,
Friday afternoon, I think is when she's leaving. And she's
not planning to come back. So she's not doing well. Still
not sure. She has a doctor's appointment
in the morning, I think, to determine surgery on her kidney. But I
want you all to know that. Also, Jennifer Dunbar's dad,
Jerry Ross. Some of you may know him. He's
been here for services a couple times over the years. He's dying. He has cancer. had a chance to talk to him about
the gospel and seems to have a real interest. Bert and I had
a great visit with him Monday night. The Lord enables you to
remember to pray for Jerry. Let's pray for his salvation. Let's
pray together. Our merciful Heavenly Father, We pray that you would cause
us. To be satisfied. With that which
you are satisfied with. The shed blood of thy dear son. Lord, we confess to you that
we are prone to look somewhere else for hope. For comfort and
for peace. You said very clearly when I
see the blood I will pass by you. Lord, we are in need. Of that death angel to pass by
us and to. To save us. From the wrath and
from my judgment and Lord, how very hopeful we are. That the
blood of that spotless lamb. Would be. Our hope. Even as it is your satisfaction. We thank you for our sister Digna.
Lord, we pray for your mercies. Toward her. Pray for your hand
of comfort and. Peace and hope. And. We asked Lord that you would.
Keep her and protect her in these in these days of her life And
father for Jerry we ask for your Holy Spirit to To give him eyes
to see Lord if the evidence that he has spoken already is Is the
work of your grace in his heart? We're so very thankful for that
We pray that you would grow it and that you would cause him
to find his rest and all his hope in the Lord Jesus Christ. For
it's in his name we pray, amen. Number 272 from the hardback
temple, 272. Let's all stand together again,
272. My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest
frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name. On Christ the solid rock
I stand, All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground
is sinking sand. When darkness veils his lovely
face, I rest on his unchanging grace. In every high and stormy
gale, My anchor holds within the veil. On Christ the solid
rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand. All other ground
is sinking sand. His oath, His covenant, His blood
support me in the whelming flood. When all around my soul gives
way, He then is all my hope and stay. On Christ the solid rock
I stand, All other ground is sinking sand. All other ground
is sinking sand. When he shall come with trumpet
sound, O may I then in him be found, Dressed in his righteousness
alone, Faultless to stand before the throne. On Christ the solid
rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand. All other ground is sinking sand. Please be seated. That hymn we just sang, it's
written in the middle part of the 19th century. A lot of great
hymns come from that period of time. Another one that was written
by a man named Robert Lowry is titled, Nothing But the Blood. Nothing But the Blood. That's
what I've titled this message tonight. What can wash away my
sins. Nothing, nothing but the blood
of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing, nothing but the blood
of Jesus. Oh, precious is that flow that makes me white as snow.
No other fount I know. Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing. But the blood. Of the Lord Jesus
Christ. We're going to be looking at
several. Passages of Scripture tonight and I hope the Lord will.
Will encourage our hearts and cause us. To look to the Lord
Jesus Christ alone. Alone. When God convicts one
of his children of sin, do they experience sorrow for that sin? Yes. But is the depth of our
sorrow the hope of our forgiveness? No. No. Are God's people happy
to make sacrifice in service to the Lord? Yes. Is any amount of sacrifice or
any amount of service sufficient? To save? No. Nothing but the
blood of Jesus. Are God's people sincere? Are
they sincere in their prayers and sincere in their love to
Christ and sincere in their love for one another? Yes, they are.
It's unfeigned, unfeigned. Is the amount of our sincerity
sufficient for the putting away of our sin? No. No. nothing but the blood of the
Lord Jesus Christ. The scripture speaks a lot about
blood and there's a clear distinction made in God's Word between the
blood of man and the blood of God. The blood of man when spoken
of is defilement. The Lord made it clear in his
old Testament law that we were not to eat blood. And even you
remember in Acts chapter 15, when the disciples got together
to try to decide which laws applied to the Gentile church, they said,
well, let's tell them, you know, at least don't eat blood and
abstain from fornication that, you know, that the eating of
blood was a symbol of defilement. When Cain killed his brother
Abel and God spoke to Cain and said, and said, Cain, what have
you done? What have you done? He said,
your brother's blood cries out from the ground against you.
And the blood of Abel was a curse against Cain. When the Lord defines centers,
he talks of them having hands that are full of blood. And the law made it clear in
numbers chapter 35, that they were not to pollute the land
with blood for the spilling of blood defiles the land. And then
you remember in Ezekiel chapter 16, let's turn to that passage
a moment. Ezekiel chapter 16. Verse one, and again, the word
of the Lord came unto me saying, son of man, cause Jerusalem to
know her abomination. Cause Jerusalem to know her abomination. And say, thus saith the Lord
God unto Jerusalem, thy birth and thy nativity is of the land
of Canaan. Thy father was an Amorite, and
thy mother a Hittite. And as for thy nativity, in the
day that thou wast born, thy navel was not cut, neither wast
thou washed in water to supple thee. Thou wast not salted at
all, nor swallowed at all, nor none eye pitied thee. to do any
of these things unto thee, to have compassion upon thee, but
thou was cast out into the open field to the lowing of thy person
in the day that thou was born." Now, God's given a picture of
their abomination. He said, you were born like a
deformed child and so horribly deformed that the parents didn't
want anything to do with you and cast you out into an open
field to die. And when I passed by thee, when
I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood,
I said unto thee, when thou wast in thy blood, live. Yea, I said unto thee, when thou
wast in thy blood, live. So the Lord's making it clear. that man's blood is defiled. And if we're left in our own
blood, we too are defiled. Do you remember the woman with
the issue of blood? And she had a condition that
no physician was able to help her with. And only the Lord was
able to heal her and stop her from that issue of blood. We've
got an issue of blood, don't we? We're born and defiled and
polluted in our own blood. And everything the scripture
says about the blood of man refers to that blood as defiled. And in stark contrast to that,
We have the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, which
in, in, in it, contrary to being defiled is the only thing able. It's the only thing able to put
away sin. That's what we saw in Zachariah
Sunday. Didn't we there that the fountain for the house of
David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem has been opened. And
what's it open for? It's open for sin and for uncleanness,
and that fountain is none other than the blood of the Lord Jesus
Christ. Someone said to me recently,
well, I hope God will forgive me. Hope God will forgive me. We're in need of forgiveness.
No question about it. More than we know. More than
we know. But if God's going to forgive
us. He will forgive us on one condition. And one condition
alone. It won't be because of the depth
of our sorrow. It won't be because of the amount
of our sacrifice or service. It won't be because of the sincerity
of our confession or the diligence of our study or the or the amount
of our knowledge. It won't be based on any of that.
If we're going to be forgiven. We're going to be forgiven. by
the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Nothing else, nothing else, nothing
but the blood. Turn to me to 1 John 1, 1 John
1. What is it to walk in the light? It's to believe. that the blood
of the Lord Jesus Christ is the only thing sufficient for putting
away my sin, is to believe on Christ, is to look to the Lord
Jesus Christ, not to my sorrow, not to my sincerity, not to my
service, nothing but the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ will
be sufficient to put away my sin. Now, what do you and I have
to do with the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. I've heard men
say, well, you've got to apply the blood. God does that. God does that. Look at verse 7 of 1 John chapter
1. But if we walk in the light as
he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another. We have fellowship
with God. We have fellowship with God's
people. And the blood of Jesus Christ, his son, cleanses us
from all sin. Is that clear? The blood of the
Lord Jesus Christ is what cleanses us of all sin. When I see the
blood, I will pass by you. There's no other remedy for sin.
No other remedy for forgiveness of sin. Nothing, nothing. Turn to me, you're right there,
just a couple pages to Revelation chapter one. Revelation chapter
one and look at verse five. Well, we'll begin at verse four.
John to the seven churches which are in Asia, grace be unto you
and peace from him which is and which was and which is to come
and from the seven spirits which are before his throne. A seven
is the number of perfection. It's not seven spirits, but it's
the Holy Spirit. Who, who makes the application
of the blood by giving us faith and from Jesus Christ, who is
the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead and
the Prince of the Kings of the earth unto him that loved us
and washed us from our sins in his own blood. How am I going to be forgiven
of my sin? If I'm not forgiven, all I have is the wrath and judgment
of God. What hope do I have for God's
forgiveness? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Nothing. Nothing else. Without
the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. Revelation 7, verse 14, John
sees the church in glory and they're all arrayed in white
and he said, who are these? These are they which have washed
their robes in the blood of the Lamb and made them white. The priest in Hebrews chapter
9 went into the holies of holies once a year, but not without
blood. Not without blood. And when the
Lord Jesus Christ went in, he obtained eternal redemption when
he put his precious blood on the mercy seat. How am I going
to be forgiven of my sin? But the blood of Jesus will take
away my sin. How am I gonna be justified before
God? And you and I are really good
about justifying ourselves, aren't we? We get an argument real quick
to justify ourselves. What is it to be justified? It's
to be right. It's to be right. That's what
the word justified means. It's a legal term. It comes from
the same root word that our word righteous comes from. It's to
mean without, it's to mean to be without fault, without error. And someone accuses us of something
and we want to prove that we're not at fault and we justify ourselves. I'm righteous. I'm right in this
thing. How are we going to be justified
before God? How's that going to happen? Paul
said in Romans chapter 5 verse 9, much more than being justified
by his blood, we shall be saved from the wrath that is. Are we
going to present an argument to God to justify ourselves before
him who knows everything? He knows every thought we've
ever had, every word we've ever spoken, every act we've ever...
How are we going to justify ourselves before God? And then he goes
on to say, Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect?
It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It
is Christ that died. And yea, he's even risen again
from the dead. How am I going to have my sins
forgiven? Nothing, nothing, nothing, brethren, but the blood of the
Lord Jesus Christ. How am I going to be justified
in the presence of God? Am I going to frame an argument
or present a case? Nothing but the blood of the
Lord Jesus Christ. Oh, there's power in this blood.
I'm emphasizing the word nothing, nothing. How prone we are to
look somewhere else. How prone we are to think, well,
you know, if I could just learn a little more, if I could pray
more, if I could be a little more sincere, if I could be,
if I could be a little more spiritual, if I could, no. Yes. Desire those things. Yes. Seek
after those things. They're not going to have anything
to do with the forgiveness of our sin with us being justified
before God, nothing but the blood of Jesus. What will bring me
into God's presence? Well, maybe if I could, maybe
if I could, if I could pray more, I could be more, more, more spiritual. I could enter into the presence
of God. Turn to me to Ephesians chapter
two, Ephesians chapter two. Oh, I hope the Lord will leave
us tonight. with nothing but the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. That's my hope. That's the message. Ephesians chapter 2, look at
verse 12. That at that time you were without
Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers
from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God
in the world. But now, in Christ Jesus, you
who were sometimes far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. What is it that brings me into
the presence of God? Nothing but the blood of the
Lord Jesus Christ. That's it. Nothing else. Nothing
else. What else do I need? What else
could I do to add to the efficacy, the power, the preciousness,
the purity of that blood. Turn to me to Hebrews chapter
10. Scripture says we have boldness. We have boldness in Hebrews chapter
10 beginning in verse 21, and having a high priest over the
house of God, let us draw near with true heart in full assurance
of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our
bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession
of our faith without wavering. for he is faithful that promised
and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good
works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the
manner of some is, but exhorting one another and so much the more
as we see the day approaching. Verse 19, verse 17, and their
sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission
of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Having therefore
brethren boldness to enter the holiest by the blood of Jesus. That's how we come. We come into
the presence of God the same way we're forgiven, the same
way we're justified, the only means by which God gives us,
and that is the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Nothing, nothing,
nothing but His blood. The blood of the Lord Jesus Christ,
unlike our blood that pollutes, was so precious in the sight
of God And you know that word precious, it means priceless. It means of infinite value. And it was so precious in the
sight of God that it was sufficient to redeem, to pay the ransom
price for all of God's people. Turn to me to Acts chapter 20,
Paul's meeting in Acts chapter 20 with the Ephesian elders. Look at verse 28. Take heed therefore
unto yourselves and to the flock over the which the Holy Ghost
hath made you overseer to feed the church of God which he hath
purchased with his own blood. He purchased the whole church
of God. He bought her and that was her
price. God said The father said, you've
shed your blood. That'll be the only price sufficient
to pay for her sins. That'll be the only thing sufficient
to redeem her, nothing else. And so in Hebrews 9, verse 12,
it says, by his own blood, he entered in once into that holy
place. By his own blood, he obtained
eternal redemption for us. Obtained it. He paid the ransom
with his blood. With his blood. How am I gonna
be redeemed? How am I gonna be justified?
How am I going to be saved? How am I, sin's gonna be forgiven?
The answer's the same for every one of those questions. Nothing
but the blood of Jesus. Nothing can wash away my sins. Turn to me to first Peter. First Peter chapter one. How often does the Lord have
to tell us that the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ is the
only thing that God satisfied with? First Peter chapter one, look
at verse 18 for as much as you know that you were not redeemed
with corruptible things. What are the corruptible things?
Man's works, man's will, man's sacrifices, man's sincerity. What did David say? If it were
sacrifices that thou wanted, I would give them. I would give
them. The sacrifices of God are broken
and contrite heart that he will not despise. Why? Because a broken
heart just looks to Christ, it looks to his blood. It doesn't
look to what it's doing. We're not redeemed with corruptible
things as silver and gold from your vain conversation received
by tradition from your fathers. Well, if we weren't redeemed
by those things, what were we redeemed by? But with the precious
blood of Christ as a lamb without blemish and without spot. That's the redemption price,
the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. God put a price on his church. Christ Jesus the Lord paid the
price with his precious blood. All the way I'm going to be ransomed.
All the way I'm going to be redeemed. All the way I'm going to be justified.
The only way I'm going to be forgiven. The only way I'm going
to be saved. The only way I'm going to be able to go into the
holies of holies and enter into his presence with boldness is
by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Not by anything else. Not by anything else. Turn with me to Revelation chapter
5. There's so much hope in this
message. That's why the gospel is called good news. You see,
if all these things were given by God, as the religionist says, by the
blood of Jesus plus, well, I don't know if I did the plus right.
I don't know if I was sincere enough. I don't know if I did
enough of it. That's not good news to me. Good news to me is
that nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing but the blood of Jesus
is sufficient for these things. That's good news. I can rest
there. You have your Bibles open to
Revelation chapter five, look at verse nine. And they sung
a new song saying, thou art worthy to take the book and open the
seals thereof for thou what slain and redeemed us to God by thy
blood. How are we redeemed? By the blood
of the Lord Jesus Christ out of every kindred, tongue, people,
and nation. You remember John saw the scroll
that was sealed with seven seals. And he looked around heaven and
no one was worthy to open the seal. It was the Lamb's book
of life. Unless it's open and the names
are read, no one's going to be saved. And no one was able to
open it. And he wept. And what did the
angel say? Weep not, for the lion of the
tribe of Judah hath prevailed. He is worthy. He is able to open
the book for he has redeemed us by his blood, by his blood. Not by our wills, not by our
works, not by our service, not by anything else. You see, as
soon as we add anything to the blood of Christ, we've defiled
it. You have your Bibles open there
to revelation. Look back to first Peter again,
first Peter chapter one. Verse one, Peter,
an apostle of Jesus Christ to the strangers. I love that. Oh, the more the Lord grows me
in his grace and the knowledge of Christ, the more stranger
I'm in this world. We're just strangers. We don't
relate. They don't relate. God's people
are pilgrims and strangers. They're foreigners in this world.
They don't speak the same language. They don't have the same values.
They don't have the same Well, they don't have the same God,
for sure. Nothing, everything's... Throughout Pontius, Galatia,
Cappadocia, Asia, Bithynia, elect according to the foreknowledge
of God the Father through sanctification of the spirit unto. And that
little preposition unto is oftentimes translated for or of. And it would be better understood
that way here. It's not our obedience to Christ that redeemed us. It was the obedience of the Lord
Jesus Christ. So it's sanctification of the
spirit, of the obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus
Christ. Why was his blood so precious?
Because he was obedient. He was obedient unto the father,
even unto death, yea, even the death of the cross. That's why
his blood was precious. It's our election, our redemption,
our sanctification. Well, Hebrews chapter 13, speaking
of sanctification, turn back with me a page or two to Hebrews
chapter 13. Verse eight, Jesus Christ the
same yesterday and today and forever. Oh, the immutable one. That's why he's called the lamb
that was slain before the foundation of the world, because the blood
that he shed on Calvary's cross had already been shed in the
covenant of grace before time ever began. God hasn't changed. Be not carried about with divers
and strange doctrines, for it is a good thing that the heart
be established with grace, not with meats, which have not profited
them that have been occupied therein. Don't be carried about
by thinking that I'm going to be forgiven, I'm going to be
justified, I'm going to be able to come into the presence of
God because of something that I eat or don't eat or do or don't
do. Touch not, taste not, handle
not. It's not by works of righteousness, which we have done, but it's
by his mercy that he has redeemed us through the sanctification
of the spirit and renewing of the Holy ghost.
We have an altar. We have an altar. Why did, why
do religious organizations put an altar down here and get men
to come down and kneel and pray prayers? Why? Why? Because they're trying to get
men to do something. We've got to add to what Christ
has done. We have an altar. It's not an
altar built with hands of men. It's a heavenly altar. Christ
is our altar. We have an altar whereof they
have no right to eat which serve the tabernacles. In other words,
the men of religion that are looking that anything, anything
other than the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ have no right to
this altar. The only ones that can come to
this altar are those who have no hope in anything other than
the blood of Christ. All their hope is in him. For
the bodies of those beasts whose blood is brought into the sanctuary
by the high priest for sin are burned without the camp. The
blood was shed in the tabernacle, the entrails and the remains
of the bodies were taken and put on a fire and burned outside
the camp. Wherefore Jesus also that he
might sanctify or make holy the people with his own blood. He that sanctify it and they
that are sanctified are all as one whereby he's not ashamed
to call them his brethren. How am I going to be sanctified?
How am I going to be holy? With his blood, with his blood. He suffered without the gate.
They took him outside the city to Mount Calvary. Let us go forth,
therefore, unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. For here have we no continuing
city, but we seek one to come. By him, therefore, let us offer
the sacrifice of praise to God continually. That is the fruit
of our lips giving thanks to his name. Here's our sacrifice. Just a couple minutes we're going
to sing nothing but the blood of Jesus. Might God make this
message so real to our hearts that we understand every word
of this simple, simple hymn sung by religious folks all over the
world. They don't mean it. They don't mean it. And the truth is that we're prone.
We're prone to forget it, aren't we? I love what the Holy Spirit inspired
writer of Hebrews to put in the next verse. But to do good and
communicate, forget not, be a giver and do good. For with such sacrifices,
God is well pleased. These things are honoring to
the Lord. But in no way are they going to forgive you of your
sin. In no way are they going to make you holy. In no way are
they going to justify you. In no way are they going to give
you access to the throne of grace. All those things. Our redemption? Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. But the blood of, what
come wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Let's stand together. Tom, you
come number two, 12, number two, 12. What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Oh, precious is the flow that
makes me white as snow. Oh, other fount I know, nothing
but the blood of Jesus. For my pardon, this I see, Nothing
but the blood of Jesus. For my cleansing, this my plea,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus. O precious is the flow that makes
me white as snow, no other fount I know, nothing but the blood
of Jesus. Nothing can for sin atone, nothing
but the blood of Jesus. Not of good that I have done,
nothing but the blood of Jesus. Oh, precious is the flow that
makes me white as snow. No other fount I know, nothing
but the blood of Jesus. This is all my hope and peace. ? Nothing but the blood of Jesus
? ? This is all my righteousness ? ? Nothing but the blood of
Jesus ? ? Oh precious is the flow ? ? That makes me white
as snow ? ? No other fount I know ? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
