All right, well, let's take our
Bibles and turn back to the book of Proverbs, Proverbs chapter
30. We've, having looked at the way
of man, how man is by nature, and having found the the actual
truth of a man as he's born in Adam. Now I want us to look at
what the Lord has done for us. Back in Proverbs chapter 30,
verses four, five, and six. Proverbs 30, verse four, who
hath ascended up into heaven? or descended? Who hath gathered
the wind in his fist? Who hath bound the waters in
a garment? Who hath established all the
ends of the earth? What is his name? And what is
his son's name, if thou canst tell? Every word of God is pure. He's a shield unto them that
put their trust in him. add thou not unto his words,
lest he reprove thee. Oh, you know, when we hear the
honesty and confession of a man that God's taught something himself. Whenever we're made to consider
our own ignorance. We have to come face to face
with what, who we are, being born in Adam. Oh, we just brought
down, but don't we need some comfort? Well, I can tell you
this, by the grace of God, if Lord pleased and blessed our
heart, we've got some comfort in these words right here. The
spirit of God is been pleased to cause the prophet to delve
deeply into the heart of one that's truly been taught of God.
How merciful is the Lord to powerfully arrest his people, cause them
to really see their need of him. You know, sometimes, well, I'll
speak for myself. I need, and I know you do too,
we need a good reminder. Lord, remind me, remind me often. Oh, remind me of what I am, but
Lord, as you're reminding me, oh, remind me again of who you
are. After Edgar was moved to confess
what he was, how ignorant he was, After he was made to just admit,
he said, I'm just a stupid man. I don't care how much we know
in this world when it comes to these things that are eternal.
I mean, just think about it. Explain to me, explain to me
the miracle of God's grace that God would show mercy to one and
pass by another. Teach me all that you know about
how Almighty God has been pleased to charge and make His Son to
be sin for us before God, not pretending. Tell me everything you know about
how in the triunity of God's persons, The description that
He is one God. Explain all that to me. We're stupid people. We don't
know. But as the Lord says it is, it
is. It is. And here, this prophet,
this one that was made to just admit, I'm more brutish than anybody. Verse three, I neither learned
wisdom nor have the knowledge of the Holy. Then the Spirit
of God moved this man to ask a series of questions in verse
four. Here it is. Who hath ascended
up into heaven? Who has ascended up? I tell you, the one that ascended
up is the one that came down. The one that, according to the
scriptures, made himself of no reputation. I'm talking about
the mighty God, the Lord Jesus Christ, the one that loved his
people before the foundation of the world. Whenever Job was made to hear
some, turn to Job 38 for a second. Job chapter 38. When Job was made to consider
something, God spoke to him. Job had kind
of lifted up his heart a little bit. Gonna try to make some statements
before the Lord. The Lord said in Job chapter
38, verses two to seven, this is what God says to him,
who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Gird
up now thy loins like a man, for I will demand of thee, and
answer thou me, where was thou when I laid the foundations of
the earth? Declare it if thou hast understanding, Who hath
laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? Who hath stretched
the line upon it? Wherefore are the foundations
thereof fastened? Or who laid the cornerstone thereof? If you know some things, if you
think, won't you answer these questions? Where were you when
I spoke all of this into existence? When I said, and it was, oh,
how quickly we're made to put our hand on our mat. Listen to
Habakkuk 2.20. The Lord is in his holy temple.
Let all the earth keep silence before him. Oh, just, just, Lord,
teach me to be quiet before you. Teach me, Lord, something, some
respect towards you. Who hath ascended up into heaven? Oh, I tell you, it's he that,
again, came down from heaven before the foundation of the
world who purposed. He got a people that he's gonna
save. Listen to this question. Who hath gathered Back in Proverbs
4, that second question. Who hath gathered the wind in
his fist? Who hath bound the waters in
a garment? Who hath established all the
ends of the earth? Who has done this? Oh, the believer
says, it's my Lord, my God, the one I can't perceive, the one
I can't understand, the one who has spoken, and it is. The one
in whom dwells all the fullness of the Godhead, bodily, that's
who He is. Look at that last part of verse
4. What is His name? What is His Son's name, if thou
canst tell? What is His name? Who is He? Who is he that all the saints
of God fall before and worship as the only hope of their glory? What is his name? What is his
fame is what it is. What is his reputation? What
is his glory and memorial? And I just hear these words and
I bow like you, I bow to him. What is his name and his son's
name? if thou canst tell. You know,
when somebody would read words like this, and they'd say, now
you see there, now, you talk about the, you know, the triunity
of God, and then you say that there's one God, and then, you
know, how can you say that when the scripture says what is his
name and what is his son's name? How can you speak like that?
Well, I tell you I can speak like that because it's what God
said. Just because this little puny
brain can't figure out the fullness of the tri-unity of God, that
there's one God, one God. Just because I can't figure that,
it don't make it so. Almighty God has said it. Just think of these words right
here. What is his name? What is his son's name? And I
love this question. if thou canst tell. You tell me. You tell me. You
tell me what his name is. You tell me what his son's name. And I'm gonna tell you, well,
there is a name given above every name. Name of the Lord Jesus
Christ. Every knee's gonna bow. I can't
tell you the fullness of who He is right now, but I know Him. The Lord taught me something
of Him. I want you to hold your place right there. Turn over
to Revelation 19. Revelation 19. Here's another
one of those passages that just makes every man hush. Revelation
19, 11 and 12. Revelation chapter 19. And I saw heaven open, and behold,
a white horse. And he that sat upon him was
called Faithful and True. And in righteousness he doth
judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire,
and on his head were many crowns. He had a name written that no
man knew but he himself. You tell me who he is. Tell me
what you know about him. Tell me who the prophet back
in Proverbs 30 was made to ask, who hath send it up into heaven? Or descended? Who hath gathered
the wind in his fist? Who hath bound the waters in
a garment? Who hath established all the
ends of the earth? What is his name? What's his
son's name? If thou canst tell. Doesn't it just make you want
to just hush? And just say, Lord, who is a
God like unto you? Who is a God that is like unto
you? Beloved, it's impossible or fallen
creatures of the dust like ourselves to fathom the nature, the glory,
the unsearchable riches, the fullness of He who is our God. And we love it that way. I've
said that before. I love not being able to explain
God. If I could explain Him and He
wouldn't be God, I can tell you this is who He says He is. And
every name that He sets forth concerning Himself That's the
way it is. And God's people bow to it. He
speaks and His people believe Him. You let this world just question
all they want to, but this is who He is. He's wonderful. Counselor, the mighty God, the
everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. That's who He is. And
He's my Lord and He's my God. And He's been gracious to this
sinner right here. He saved me by His grace, kept me by His
power, and He forgives me. He laid down His life, paid all
my debt. This is who He is. He's the Lord. Back in Proverbs chapter 30,
look at verse 5. Concerning what he says, verse
4 is who He is. This is verse 5. Majesty do,
I cannot do it. But Lord, based on what you said
right here, every word of God. It made me think this morning
I was going over these notes and I thought even as I was reading
verse five, I was just reading the scripture. And that verse
five right there is speaking Concerning the Word of God, he's
speaking about the Word of God. It says, every, now I looked
at that word, every word I'm gonna emphasize here for a second
before I close. For by grace are you saved through
faith. And that not of yourselves, it's
the gift of God. I read something that someone
wrote on that and I thought this is so good. If He did not uphold us, here
we are, fallen creatures of dust. If He did not uphold us, we would perish under the weight
of our iniquity. Here we are just going through
this day and, you know, we're And I don't mean this disrespectfully,
but I mean we're happily-go-lucky, just kind of, you know what I
mean. I don't mean anything other than
the attitude of all of us. We just go through these days,
but I'm telling you, do you realize that we're being kept by the
power of God through faith? You've been pleased to keep us,
not allow us to be crushed under the weight of what we deserve. Oh, bless the Lord. Every word
of God is pure. He's a shield under them. And
I looked it up. It was 11 years ago. I preached out of a passage of
scripture, and he called me up and said, you preached on this,
and I told him, I said, listen, this was a dear brother, friend. And he said, you preached on
this, and you said, and I said, I tell you what, hold on just
a second. Let me go back and look at my notes, look up what
I found and make sure that what I say to you is right. Don't let me just, I don't want
to go back 11 years. I can't hardly remember 11 minutes
ago, much less 11 years ago. And go back and let me look at
this. Lest I do what I'm commanded not to do, add thou not unto
His words. According to His command, men
are to accept that which He says, but don't speculate on it. Look it up. Find out. The Scripture
sets forth concerning what we do, concerning the hearing of
His words and the worship of the Lord Jesus Christ, Deuteronomy
12, 32. What thing soever I command you, observe to do
it. Thou shalt not add thereto nor
diminish from it. Whenever I hear people, men stand
in pulpits and they'll make statements concerning eternal things and
they're not things that are not so. Trying to tell men how to
be converted, how to be saved. They'll make speculations, stuff
like this. And I'm thinking, do you realize
the consequences of such a thing? Every word of God is pure. Treat it that way. And add thou
not unto His words, lest He reprove thee. He gonna judge you. Lord,
help me, help me to be very, very careful what I say. Let me honor you in the things
that I say, the attitude that I have. Lord, let me be careful. Oh, the blessing of having the
word of God, the Lord himself, teach us this is how we are in
Adam. Like old Agar saw himself. I'm
just a brutish man. But then see ourselves. in the
glory of the Lord Jesus Christ, who has loved us, kept us, called
us, saved us. For his namesake, we pray and
ask all these things. Be blessed to our hearts.
