John

In the sermon titled "I am the Resurrection," Angus Fisher addresses the central theological theme of the resurrection of Jesus Christ as a declaration of His divine authority and the hope of believers. He argues that the resurrection is essential not only as a historical event but as the very identity of Christ, who asserts in John 11:25, "I am the resurrection and the life." This declaration underscores that true saving faith is rooted in belief in Christ's resurrection, moving beyond mere acknowledgment of works or sentiments of faith. Specific Scripture references, including John 11, Acts 2, and 1 Corinthians 15, are cited to affirm that the resurrection is foundational to Christian faith, establishing Christ's victory over death, sin, and the world. The practical significance lies in how the message of resurrection brings assurance and confidence to believers regarding eternal life, emphasizes God's sovereignty, and fosters a personal relationship with Christ, the ultimate Deliverer.

If you turn in your Bibles with
me, back to John chapter 11. Before I read my text I've been
very struck by what happens in church and what happens in preaching
of the Gospel. There's just a wonderful, wonderful
example of it in John Chapter 11. And Lord willing, at the
end of the service, we will come to look at this again. But I just want us to think about
the situation. You've been with us for some
time. Lazarus had died. The Lord Jesus
Christ was sent message by Martha and Mary. He heard and He knew
and He had supervised all of those things. He was there as
sovereign, omnipotent, omniscient God over all the events that
happened there. But they sent word to this family
that Jesus loved. They sent word to the Lord Jesus
Christ to come. They just sent word to Him saying,
Behold, verse 3, he whom thou lovest is sick. What a lovely prayer, they just
laid out their situation before the Lord and said, this is the
circumstances of my life. You are God, you are good, you
are sovereign, and your will be done. So I'm just laying my
life in your hands. And of course the Lord Jesus
waited and didn't arrive with them until four days. Lazarus
had been in the tomb four days and he was a stinking corpse
by that stage. And so this is just a glorious
picture of the Lord Jesus Christ in his absolute sovereignty,
in his absolute goodness, in his absolute love, doing things
that we can't understand at the time. But he had two reasons
for doing all of this. One is for the glory of God.
You read it in verse 4. This sickness is not unto death,
but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified
thereby. And he says that he's done this,
he's done this work, in glad for your sakes, verse 15, that
I was not there to the intent that you may believe. That's
the intention, isn't it? God's intention in the lives
of these people is that he would bring them to saving faith. And the Lord Jesus Christ arrived at Bethany into this place where
there was so much weeping and mourning. So let's pick up the
story down in verse 19. Now Bethany was nigh, near unto
Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs. It was about three kilometres
away, so people walked backwards and forwards from Bethany all
the time. And this was a well-known family, a seemingly wealthy family,
certainly a hospitable family. The Lord Jesus and the disciples
were able to stay in the house of Mary and Martha and Lazarus.
And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary to comfort them
concerning their brother. Then Martha, as soon as she had
heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him. But Mary sat
still in the house. Then said Martha unto Jesus,
Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. But
I know that even now whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will
give it to thee. And Jesus saith unto her, Thy
brother will rise again. Verse 23. Thy brother will rise
again. Martha saith unto him, I know
that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said unto her, I am the
resurrection and the life. He that believeth in me, though
he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever liveth and believeth
in me shall never die. Do you believe this? Do you believe
this? And Martha gives the most wonderful
Christian confession, and it's the Christian confession throughout
the New Testament. She saith unto him, Yea, Lord,
I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should
come into the world. Saving faith is not what you
believe about yourself. Multitudes believe that God loves
them and Jesus died for them and that they have saved themselves
by an act of their will or saying a sinner's prayer or doing something
else. Multitudes, according to Matthew chapter 7, turn up on
that last day and meet the Lord Jesus Christ with a mountain
of good works, wonderful works that are all done in the name
of the Lord. And He turns to them and He says, Depart from
me, I never knew you. Saving faith is what we believe
about the Lord Jesus Christ. It's believing who he is and
it's believing who he is in his resurrected glory. But I love
what happens next. I want you to, and this has been
my prayer for me and for all that happen to listen to us,
I want us to read this and just contemplate what happens in the
preaching of the Gospel and how God calls his people to himself. She went, when she had so said,
she went her way, and she called Mary her sister, saying, The
Master is come. and calleth for thee. What a glorious thing that the
master has come, the teacher has come. It's not the highest
honour you can give to the Lord Jesus Christ, but it's what they
commonly called him. He's come. He's actually come. And the Lord Jesus Christ in
saving grace comes. And the Lord Jesus Christ in
saving grace, he calls individuals to himself, doesn't he? And he
could have very easily walked up to the house and called Mary,
but the Lord Jesus Christ always works through means, and so he
works through the means of preaching the gospel to call people to
himself. He's come, he's come, and he's
calling you. He's calling you and listen to
the response. This is the response of saving
faith. This is a response that I pray
the Lord creates in all of us here and all who ever get to
hear us, that we might just proclaim these things. As soon as she
heard, if you hear, if you hear the master's call, if you hear
the master's come, verse 29, as soon as she heard, she arose
quickly. God's people always arise, don't
they? They're always in a place of
lowliness, aren't they? No matter what the circumstance
of life, we always need Him to come and Him to call us and we
need for Him to cause us to arise. But God's people arise quickly,
don't they? She's not having a debate about
this. She's not wanting all sorts of evidence. She arose quickly
and came to Him. She arose quickly and came to
him. Verse 32. This has been my prayer
for all of us, and me especially. Then when Mary was come to where
Jesus was, See, coming to church is coming to where Jesus is,
isn't it? Coming into the place where he has promised. He says,
where I make my name known, where I reveal my character, where
I gather my people together, there I am in the midst of you.
She came. She came to where he was. Wouldn't
it be wonderful if we came to where he was? We see the Lord Jesus Christ
through the eyes of faith as clearly as Mary saw him in the
flesh that day. We do. We see him through the
eyes of faith just as clearly. And what did she do? She saw
him and she fell down at his feet. That is the best place in all
of this world for you to find yourself all the time, to fall
down at his feet, to acknowledge the fact that he is absolutely
sovereign. and that you're in his hands,
and he is God Almighty. But what a gracious God, and
what a good God, and what a merciful God we have. I don't know what
our next song is. It's 4070, isn't it? So that's my prayer that you
might hear. He might come to where he is
and you might fall down. Number 70, it's not that I did
choose thee, Lord, for that could not be. you. I trust the Lord will be our
teacher and our guide. I have rejoiced in the fact that
he made this remarkable promise. It's written in the Prophets
that they all should be taught of God. John 6.45. This is one
of the most blessed verses for everyone that's ever preached
or witnessed to anyone. They'll all be taught of God.
They shall all be taught of God. Every man therefore that hath
heard and learned of the Father cometh to me. We come to a resurrected
God. Saving faith is believing in
a resurrected God, the Lord Jesus Christ. I was in a shop yesterday
talking to a lady who spent all of her life in religion of one
sort or another. I said, well, tell me about resurrection.
She said, I haven't got a clue. I
haven't got a clue and I pray when we go from here we will
see that resurrection is a man, is a person, it's the Lord Jesus
Christ. He says in our text John 11.25, Martha had spoken about
a resurrection at the last day and the Lord Jesus Christ corrects
her and said unto her, verse 25, I am the resurrection and
the life. He that believeth in me, though
he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever believeth in me
shall never die. Do you believe that? What remarkable words from our
great and glorious God. And so I was titling this message
the I Am of Resurrection, but it really could be titled the
I Am Who Is the Resurrection. The Resurrection is a person.
of all humanity is in the hands of God Almighty. The resurrection
is a declaration of the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. And
the more I have studied resurrection, the more you realise how incredibly
significant it is. It's throughout all of the Old
Testament. The Old Testament is is the picture, isn't it,
the story of the sufferings of Christ and the glories that should
follow, the resurrected glories of the Lord Jesus Christ. So
if you want to know what this Bible is about, this Bible is about
the sufferings of Christ and the glory that should be revealed
afterwards. All of the Old Testaments are
about the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. This creation exists
for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. God created this universe
so that the Lord Jesus Christ could be crucified on a tree
on a cross outside of Jerusalem 2000 years ago and be buried
in a tomb there for three days and witnessed by a million people
in Jerusalem. from the dead, and the only reason
this universe exists is because of the resurrection of the Lord
Jesus Christ. And all of the fruit of his resurrection
is to have all of his people in glory with him. And he will
have it. Our God will have it. So this
is extraordinary, isn't it, that people in religion don't know
what it means. And so let's go back and let's look at some of
the things in John's Gospel because the first public declaration
of the Lord Jesus Christ to the people in Jerusalem was a declaration
about his deity, about his oneness and unity with his Father. He
goes to the temple and he says, this is my temple. Everything
in this temple is meant to signify me and glorify me and glorify
my sacrifice and my resurrection. That's what this temple's about.
It's my temple, he said. And then he said in verse 19
to those Jews that challenged him about what he was doing,
He says, destroy this temple. And he was talking about the
temple of his body, the meeting place between God and man, the
place where God reveals himself to man. You destroy this temple,
and you will destroy this temple, and I'll raise it up in three
days. In three days I'll raise it up. So the very first public
declaration of the Lord Jesus Christ in Jerusalem to these
people that were going to kill him was a declaration about resurrection. We read Psalm 16, but if you
turn with me to Acts 2, the very first declaration of the church
is a declaration. It's a public declaration of
the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. In verse 26 and
27 he quotes from that psalm that we just read, because thou
wilt not leave my soul, neither wilt thou suffer thine holy one
to see corruption. Thou hast made known to me the
ways of life, thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. And he goes on to tell them that
the Lord Jesus Christ did exactly as was promised. The Christ came,
the Christ was killed, the Christ was raised again. He spoke. This is his quoting in verse
30, therefore being a prophet, he's speaking of David, quoting
Psalm 100, no, penning Psalm 16. And knowing that God had
sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his lawns, according
to the flesh, he would raise up Jesus, he would resurrect
Jesus to sit on his throne, seeing this before spake of the resurrection
of Christ. that his soul was not left in
hell, neither did his flesh see corruption. This Jesus has God
raised up and we are witnesses. Christian preaching is a witness
to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. It's a resurrection
of who he is. And listen to what Peter goes
on to say to these people who had the blood of the Lord Jesus
Christ on their hands. We're witnesses. Therefore, being
by the right hand of God is all and having received of the Father
the promise of the Holy Ghost, he has shed forth this which
you now see and hear. And what were they doing? They
were preaching the Lord Jesus Christ. They were preaching the
wonderful works of God, the wonderful works of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, therefore, let all Israel, verse 36 be, know assuredly
that God has made that same Jesus whom you crucified, both Lord
and Christ. He is God Almighty and he's God's
anointed prophet, priest and king. And so the first declaration
of the Lord Jesus Christ in Jerusalem is a declaration of his resurrection.
The first preaching of the gospel in that same place after they
had put him to death is a preaching of the Lord Jesus Christ. And
it is the testimony throughout the Acts of the Apostles. They preach the resurrected Christ
all the time. Again and again and again they're
preaching a resurrected Christ. Acts chapter 26 verse 23, Paul
says that Christ should suffer and that he should be the first that should rise
from the dead and should show light unto the people and also
to the Gentiles. See the resurrected Christ met
the Apostle Paul and listen to his commission in Acts chapter
26. He's going to deliver him from the people and he's going
to And the Gentiles to whom I now send you the resurrected Christ
is ascending Christ, isn't he? He's sending this message out
to open their eyes. and to turn them from darkness
to light and the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive
forgiveness of sins and inheritance among them which are sanctified,
made holy by faith that is in me. That's the work of gospel
preaching. Isn't that remarkable? He leaves
that in the hands, just as he did send a message via Martha,
or he sends a message by someone who's as weak as water. We have
a treasure, brothers and sisters, in a vessel of clay, but it's
a glorious, glorious treasure. So the resurrection of the Lord
Jesus Christ is first in the Lord Jesus' proclamation of himself.
It's first in the preaching of the Gospel. It is the continuing
preaching of the Gospel. It is the witness that we all
bear, isn't it? It is a historic truth. It's
a historic truth that's wrapped up in a spiritual mystery. And part of that spiritual mystery
is even though Nation Israel knew about resurrection and had
been told all through the Lord's ministry, he told them again
and again and again, I'm going to Jerusalem, I'm going to be
betrayed, I'm going to be beaten, I'm going to be crucified, and
I'm going to rise again the third day. And the Jews knew it. But
in his resurrection, He never ever appeared to one
who was not his child. He never appeared to one that
he didn't redeem. It's a glorious resurrection,
but it's a particular resurrection. Quite simply, if there's no resurrection,
we have nothing to preach. 1 Corinthians 15 says there's
no resurrection. Let's go and find the closest
party place we can. Let's eat, drink, and be merry.
We would be found to be lies about God if there is no resurrection. If there is no resurrection,
the Lord Jesus Christ is a liar. Perish the thought that God who
cannot lie would be telling untruths. If there is no resurrection,
the Bible can't be trusted. What on earth do we have a book
that speaks of resurrection from the very beginning to the end
if it can't be trusted? Also, if there's no resurrection,
the death of the Lord Jesus Christ is absolutely and utterly meaningless.
But it is historic. It is a reality, and it's a glorious
reality. I love what he says to Martha. Come back to verse 25 of John
11 with me. He says, Am the resurrection. I am the
resurrection. The resurrection is all about
a person. The resurrection is all about
the declaration of the glory of God. It's all about the fact
that He is the Saviour who came to save His people and they must
be saved. It's a historic truth, but there
are three resurrections in the scriptures, aren't there? There
is the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is the resurrection
to new life, to be born again, to be born from above is described
in so many ways as a resurrection. It's life from the dead. It's
life that comes to someone who is spiritually dead, which is
where all of us were when we came from Adam's worm, Adam's
knees worm. And there is, at the end of this
world, there is a general resurrection of all humanity. It's a historic truth. It's a
Bible truth. The oldest book of human writing
is the book of Job, and it's just before Psalms, but there's
a glorious verse in Job where Job, suffering as he was, says, Verse 25 of Job 19, he says,
I know, I know that my redeemer, literally, I know that my kinsman
redeemer lives. And that he shall stand in the
latter day upon the earth. And though after my skin, worms
destroy this body, yet in my flesh, I shall see God. In his flesh you'll see God.
He's talking about resurrection. whom I shall see for myself,
and mine eyes shall behold, and not another, though my reins
be consumed within me." It's a historic truth. It is the truth
that encompasses all of the scriptures. It holds all the scriptures together,
the glorious, glorious fact of the Lord Jesus Christ and who
He is and who He is in Resurrected Glory. When Moses and Elijah
met the Lord Jesus Christ on that Mount of Transfiguration,
they had one topic of conversation recorded for us, just one topic
of conversation. Elijah, who was taken directly
into heaven by that chariot of God, they had one topic of conversation. They spoke of his decease, Luke
9.31. It means his exodus. It means
his redemption of all of his people in himself, which he should
accomplish at Jerusalem. He should accomplish that at
Jerusalem. It is the glory of our God that
we have this remarkable privilege to become a resurrected Christ,
a living Christ, a reigning Christ, a ruling Christ. And not only
is it a historic truth, you read 1 Corinthians 15, 500 witnesses
saw him at one time. He made it very clearly revealed
that he had been risen from the dead. And if you read Matthew
26 and 27, you'll see all the schemes that the Jews had to
do to try and cover up the fact of his resurrection. But John's
gospel speaks personally to us. It's a personal issue, isn't
it? It's a private and personal and significant issue. It's the
most significant issue in all of our lives, isn't it? The fact
that we are made of God to be eternal beings and we are made
of God to be beings who will have resurrected bodies and we
will live eternally. One of the glorious things about
Mary's response to the Lord Jesus Christ when he called and she
came and she saw is that she fell at his feet. Resurrection
tells us again and again that God He has absolute right to do with
his creation as he sees fit and everything he does is right all
of the time. All of the time. Daniel spoke
of that general resurrection at the end and you'll participate
in it. And many of them that sleep in
the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life and
some to shame and everlasting contempt. Daniel wrote that 2,500
years ago. There is a resurrection. You will have and I will have
resurrected bodies, brothers and sisters. We'll have resurrected
bodies. We will. We are eternally living
beings. And so in light of that, there's
just nothing more important. Then who do you say I am? Martha made this glorious declaration
after the Lord had declared himself to be the resurrection of life.
She said, Thou art the Christ, the Christ who comes, the Christ
who reigns and rules, the anointed one of God, the Christ who comes
in union with his people. That's what it is for him to
be the Christ, the Christ who comes. and weaves a robe of perfect
righteousness for them, the Christ who comes and bears all of their
sins in his own body on the tree, the Christ who is so united to
them that he declares that the sins that they commit are his
because such is his union with them and such is the covenant
that he was in. You are the Christ, the Son of
God, which should come into the world. So this is a personal
problem. In this text of scripture we
are told about resurrection, we're told who is the resurrection,
and we are told and we are confronted with a personal truth, aren't
we? See, the problem is not an intellectual
problem, brothers and sisters. And the problem is not an evidential
problem in terms of our unbelief. Unbelief is a moral problem that
people have. You will not come to me that
you might have life. So now I'm out of evidence. No
amount of evidence and no amount of intelligence is going to help
you understand these things. This is a spiritually revealed
truth, but it's a personal truth and it's a real truth for all.
God's Word, and for me particularly John's Gospel, is very personal,
isn't it? He asks very personal questions,
doesn't it? And it's very revealing, the
questions he asks, and it's very revealing the situation he puts
people in, doesn't he? It reveals us. as Adam's children,
fallen. It reveals us as crippled. It reveals us as blind. It reveals
us like Lazarus is dead and in a tomb in darkness with a stone
over the entrance. It reveals us as people who,
if they're going to have life, they're going to have it from
outside of themselves. And religion doesn't help. You
just ask Nicodemus. His religion made no difference
whatsoever to him. It just made him more ignorant
and more proud, which is what religion does. Intelligence doesn't
make any difference. Simply, simply we are left in
the hands of God Almighty. And he says to us, do you believe
this? Do you believe that I am the resurrection? Do you believe
the resurrection is a person? Do you believe that the resurrection
is a description of me in union with my people? You see, the
Lord Jesus Christ and his people have always been united. It's
remarkable to think about it, isn't it? We were united to him
before the foundation of the world. We were one with him.
We were united with him when he came into this world. And
that's why these stories in John's Gospel and the Gospel accounts
are so personal for us. Because in reality, where the
Lord Jesus Christ was, all of his people were. And we are there
and they're personal. And when he says, do you love
me? Do you love me? Do you believe me? Do you love
me? That's a personal question, isn't
it? Follow me, he says. It says to
Peter, doesn't it? Peter looks around after having
that glorious meeting with the resurrected Lord Jesus on the
shores of Galilee. What a remarkable morning that
must have been for those men in that fishing boat. They don't
see him at first, but there's a fire and there's a man and
John recognises him and Peter throws on his clothes and he
just swims through the water to get to the Lord Jesus as quickly
as he possibly can. And what's there? There he is
sitting. at ease and at rest, and the
fire is there, and the fish is on the fire, and the bread is
on the fire. And he takes Peter for a walk
after asking those two serious questions, and Peter says, What
about these other people? What about John? What about these
others? The Lord's answer is an answer for all of us personally,
isn't he? That's your job. You follow me.
You believe me. You trust me. You love me. All
of the circumstances of all of the other lives in this world
are in my hands. You just follow me. You follow
me. I am the resurrected Christ. You follow me. I am, I am the resurrection,
I am the resurrection, the great I am. Turn with me to Exodus
chapter 5 so we can understand something of this I am. This
is where the Lord Jesus Christ meets Moses at the burning bush.
We don't have time to read it all, but it's just the most remarkable
meeting of God after these hundreds of years of waiting. Finally,
the Lord Jesus Christ comes to Moses, his servant. In verse
5, he reveals himself. As always, he must reveal himself.
The first thing he does when someone meets him, he'll reveal
himself as holy. He reveals himself as holy. Verse 5. He saw that bush, and
it must have been a remarkable sight, this small and insignificant
bush. This is Exodus chapter 3. This
small and insignificant bush, Moses has seen thousands of them,
they're all over that desert, but this one particular bush
is burning with the flame. And it doesn't need any of the
fuel of the bush for the flame to burn. And Moses is drawn to
this. And he came to meet God. And he says, draw verse five,
put off thy shoes from off thy feet for the place whereon thou
standest is holy ground. It's holy ground. The first meeting, if you ever
meet the Lord Jesus Christ, the first meeting is he's going to
be high and lifted up and he's going to be holy and you're going
to know that you are not holy in his presence. Moreover, he
said, verse 6, Exodus 3, I am the God of thy father, the God
of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face for he
was afraid to look upon God. The Lord Jesus Christ uses those
very words there in the Gospel accounts in Luke chapter 20 to
show the Sadducees they had no idea who God was, they had no
idea of the Word of God. He's talking about resurrection.
I'm the resurrected Christ of a living Abraham and a living
Isaac and a living Jacob. Listen to what the I Am then
goes on to say. The I Am says, and the Lord,
Jehovah, this is the Lord Jesus Christ, God Almighty said, I
have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt. He sees and he speaks of my people. He's holy. He reveals himself
and he says, I've come for a covenant people. I've come for my people.
He has a particular people in this world. He's come in covenant
faithfulness. But he hears, doesn't he? He
says, I see. I hear their cries. I know their sorrows. What a
glorious God we have. This God is touched with the
feeling of our infirmities. I see, I hear, I know. Verse 8, he says, he comes
as a deliverer. I am come down to deliver them. Out of the hand of the Egyptians,
out of the hand of this world, out of the hand of legalism,
out of the hand of religion, I've come to deliver them out
of all of their enemies. See, he comes, doesn't he? He
comes as holy, he comes as a covenant God, he comes as a God who is
touched with the feeling of our infirmities. He comes as an omniscient
God, but he comes as a Deliverer. Our God comes as a Deliverer.
The resurrected Christ is a Deliverer. When he says, I am, all of the
people who heard him knew that this is exactly what he was talking
about. And he says in verse 12, listen to him, the words of our
God. These are the words of the resurrected
Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 28. He says, I'm sending you
out into this world to preach this gospel of the resurrected
Christ. And he says in verse 12, certainly
I will be with. I will be this with thee. Moses asked him, what's your
name? And God says, verse 14, God says unto Moses, I am that
I am. And he said, thou shalt say to
the children, I am has sent thee. I am has sent thee. And he says, this is my name
forever. everlasting name the Lord Jesus
Christ is quite simply saying to Mary and Martha and to all
of us I am God Almighty and I am come in that name and I will
do all all that I said and this is my memorial for all generations
I am the resurrection and the life and He that believeth in
me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. What a captivity
death is. What a captivity sin is. What
a captivity this world is. What a captivity Satan is. And
the resurrected Christ delivers. I am the resurrection and the
life. He that believeth in me. Quite simply, the glory of God
is in His faithfulness, and the glory that God receives is in
our simple faith in Him, in what He says. We simply trust Him
as He says. That's why He asked that question. Whosoever liveth and believeth
in Me shall never die. Shall never die. The resurrected
I Am reveals all of the glory, he says, before the cross. He
says, Father, glorify your Son. It's all about the glory of God,
the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. It's all about
the display of his power. It's the display of his character.
It's the display of his justice. It's the display of his righteousness. It's the display of all of the
attributes of God. If you go to the cross at Calvary
and take all of the attributes of God to the cross at Calvary,
you see them so gloriously displayed. And then you see them on that
resurrection morning and they're even more gloriously displayed.
We have a living God. The Lord Jesus Christ is God
and he is alive and he is with his people. That's just what
he's promised. That's what resurrection says. He must. He must. The Christ must rise
from the dead. The Christ must suffer no corruption. Why must he rise from the dead?
Because God's eternal purpose is he must rise from the dead. He must rise from the dead because
of what he accomplished. that deceased that they spoke
about on that Mount of Transfigurations, his exodus that he will complete. He is put to death. He was put
to death because of our sin. God made him who knew no sin. The Lord Jesus Christ was the
only human being who has never sinned, never ever sinned. God have made him to be sin for
us who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of
God in him. God's children are the very righteousness
of God. He was put to death, Romans 4.25.
He was put, he was delivered over to death for our offences
and he was raised again for our justification. Because of our
justification, what is it to be justified? is to be declared
by God to have never sinned. Because all of the sins of all
of God's people were put on the Lord Jesus Christ from before
the foundation of the world. That's what it is to be justified.
He bore those sins and he paid the infinite price. of the eternal wrath of God on
those sins. And all of his people must, they
must go free. They must be in his presence
forever. And he is the Lord of the dead
and the living. God has made this Jesus both
Lord and Christ. He's Lord of your life. He's
Lord of everyone's life. He's Lord of everyone's life.
It's the word of faith. Just in closing, turn with me
to Romans chapter 10. What is it to be saved? What is it to be saved? What
is it to have salvation? What is it to be brought to his
presence? He says in verse nine of Romans
nine, that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth, that word confess
means just to say the same as God. It's not to stand publicly
before people and confess, it's to say the same as God. The Lord
Jesus, it's to confess him, the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe
in thine heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt
be saved. For with the heart man believeth
unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made
unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever
believeth on him shall not be ashamed. If thou shalt confess with thy
mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thy heart that God
raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. So says God Almighty. May it be so with us, let's pray.
Heavenly Father, please cause us to rejoice in our resurrected
Saviour and Heavenly Father, calls us to rejoice in salvation
by faith, salvation by grace, salvation wrought by a resurrected
and reigning saviour, Lord and God, our Lord Jesus Christ. Bless
your words, Heavenly Father, for his glory and for the good
of your people. Amen.
