Once again, may it please Almighty
God to help us as we meditate in his word and as we turn to
Psalm 119. And this evening we'll read from
verses 137 to 140. Psalm 119 from verse 137 to 140. Righteous art thou, O Lord, and
upright in all thy judgments. Thy testimonies that thou hast
commanded are righteous and very faithful. My zeal hath consumed
me, because mine enemies have forgotten thy words. Thy word is very pure. Therefore,
thy servant loveth it. Here again, we find David confirming
the goodness and greatness of the Lord and how all his ways
are right. They're upright and there's no
fault. with Almighty God in all that
he says. And we're so thankful that we
have therefore the Word of God that records so many details
of this. And may we remember therefore
there's no fault or bias with Almighty God. His ways are pure
and his ways are right. And then he tells us, thy testament
is that thou has commanded are righteous and very faithful. Again, that's a great statement,
really a simple statement, but it's important for us to again,
remember about the testimonies that really includes the whole
word of God, which is full of testimony from beginning to end. And the Lord has given us his
word His testimony is that He has indeed commanded and that
they are righteous and that they are very faithful. The Scriptures
are indeed holy. They're just and good. And what is contained in them
are according to godliness. And for instruction in righteousness
to teach men to live soberly, righteously and godly. How wonderful and how comprehensive
is the Word of God. So often perhaps we take it for
granted, we become familiar with it, and yet we don't realise
how these things are so wonderfully true. And the Nordish recorded
these words for his people's benefit. for his people's eternal
good. To God direct us as we travel
through this world, even at this very time. What a mercy then
that we have such a kind and such a gracious God. And so he comes and tells us
in verse 139, my zeal hath consumed me because mine enemies have
forgotten thy words. Well, that's really a very searching
word, isn't it? For us to consider, as we may
think, upon what zeal do we have? Zeal for the truth of God's word. And zeal because the enemies
of the Lord forget his words. Well, David tells us the zeal
which he's been given consumes him. It means it occupies him,
doesn't it? It's zeal for God and his glory. How wonderful and how necessary
for his word and ordinances of worship, which is a favor for
us. what a blessing if we have a
great love you see he says here he has a zeal that's consumed
him that must surely mean that he has a burning love for his
god and a flaming affection wonderful isn't it to think of it and it's
shown in the holy indignation against sin and against sinners,
a zeal according to knowledge, sincere and hearty, and what
continued and which was shown in embracing and defending the
truths of the Word of God. How important it is for us as
we live on the earth today to be conscious of that, and to
be concerned that God's Word goes forth and God's Word is,
listens to, and it's not the Word of a man. It's the Word
of Almighty God and how privileged we are to have it. And what a
blessing if many are taught the importance of God's Word. Finally, the 140th The verse
tells us, thy word is very pure. Therefore, thy servant loveth
it. And it reminds us of an earlier
statement by David when he said, how love I thy law. It is my
meditation all the day. Well, what a blessing. if that
is our situation. We read that 12th Psalm because
at the end of that 12th Psalm, these are the words that we read.
The words of the Lord are pure words. As silver tried in a furnace
of earth, purified seven times. It's good for us to realize that
we have this word of God which is pure. pure God wrote it, a pure God
has given it to us today and what a mercy therefore if we
concur with what David says, because it is very pure therefore
thy servant love of it. There's many things perhaps that
we may love but what a blessing if we love God's Word We love
it because it's pure. And we love it because it describes
to us the glory of the Saviour. We love it because it tells us
the great plan of salvation. And we love it because it directs
us to the eternal home of the Church of God. Well, may we be
able to concur with such A wonderful statement, thy word, not our
word, God's word, thy word is very pure, therefore thy servant
loveth it. And may we all come in to that
statement and be amongst those who love the word of God.
