Or if you take your Bibles now
and turn with me to Matthew. Matthew chapter 25. Matthew chapter 25. This we read
here is the parable of the wise and foolish virgins. Now, just
to give you an introduction before we read this, The previous chapter,
our Lord is up in the temple and these disciples were admiring
the temple and He confesses to them this truth that not one
stone will be left upon another in this place. And He begins
to tell them of His coming, of His second coming, of His return. And they ask this question, when
are these things? When are these things going to
be? And our Lord confesses that though there's going to be wars
and rumors of wars, there's going to be, but you are going to be
brought before the council and they will kill you for my sake. A lot of tribulation, a lot of
trials, a lot of difficulties and things are going to come
in. And He says, but the coming of
the Son of Man, no one knows this. It's going to be like the
days of Noah. They were eating and drinking
and marrying and giving in to marriage. And the day he entered
into the ark, you had these two people, they were getting married.
They had dreams and hopes of the future. And you remember,
Noah entered in that ark and it was over. They didn't even
know it. He said, that's how it's going
to be. Nobody's going to know. And so he tells them there are
going to be many people confessing to be Christ. He said, don't
listen to them. Don't go over here. If somebody
says Christ's over here, don't go over there. When I come back,
everyone's gonna know it. Everyone's gonna know it. And
this is the conclusion of the matter in verse 44 of chapter
24. This is what ignites these parables. This is the reason for these
three parables that are given in chapter 25. Here it is. Therefore, be ye also Now there's
the reason for these parables. You don't know when the Son of
Man is coming. He says, be ready, be ready. For such an hour as you think
not, the Son of Man cometh. Just when you think it ain't
coming, here He is. And the whole purpose of these
parables is this. that you know you're ready. Are
you ready? That's a good question to ask
yourself this night. Are you ready? If he comes tonight,
are you ready? If he comes right now, are you
ready? If he comes and takes you from this mortal body to
present yourself before the throne of God, are you ready? That's
a question. Am I ready? And these parables surely give
us the answer to that. They will instruct us as to the
point. Are we ready? Now let's read
this parable together. Then shall the kingdom of heaven
be likened unto ten virgins which took their lamps and went forth
to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were wise and five
were foolish. They that were foolish took their
lamps and took no oil with them. But the wise took oil in their
vessels and their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried,
they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry,
Behold, the bridegroom cometh. Go you out to meet him. Then
all the virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish
set into the are gone out. But the wise answered,
saying, Not so, lest there not be enough for us and you. But
go you rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while
they went to buy, the bridegroom came. And they that were ready
went in with him to the marriage. And the door was shut. Afterwards
came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord opened to
us. But he answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto
you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for you know
neither the day nor the hour when the Son of Man cometh. Our Lord is telling us in those
previous chapters, be ready. The day of judgment is coming.
One day Christ will come in and he will gather all of his elect
and those who are not ready will be cast out into outer darkness. And he gives us this parable
here. Now, therefore he says watch and be
ready. Watch and be ready for you don't know when the Lord
comes. That's what he tells us the very last verse. Watch therefore. For you don't know the day or
the hour when the Son of Man cometh." This is the reason for
this parable, to warn us of the coming judgment. The Lord Jesus
Christ came to this world, when He came the first time, He came
as the Lamb of God. He came in meekness. He came
in humility. But when Jesus comes again, He
will not come in meekness. He will not come in humility.
He will come in His power and glory. He will come in His power
and glory. Make no mistake about this. Jesus
Christ does rule right now. He does reign right now. He is
ruling all things after the counsel of His own will. And he does
this, all his purpose in ruling is this purpose, to give eternal
life to as many as the father gave him. That is his purpose
in everything he does. But soon when he has gathered
that last sheep, when all of his sheep are brought safely
into the fold, then he will return and come in power and glory. And the question is, are you
ready? now ready to meet the Son of God. This parable will
declare only those who are born again of the Spirit, only those
who have the Spirit of God in them, whose faith is continual,
only these will be allowed into the marriage, only these will
be accepted of God. Those whose faith is real, those
whose faith is of God. Is your faith of God? But those
who are false pretenders, those whose faith is only an act of
the human will, whose faith is based on some work of the flesh
or ceremony of religion, they shall be forever cast out. Let's look at the parable. He
said this, then the kingdom of heaven is likened to ten virgins
that took their lamps and went forth to meet the bridegroom. The kingdom of heaven here is
likened to a wedding procession. Now, in this day, there was a
custom that the bridegroom should first of all make a purchase,
a dowry. pay the bride price for his bride. And then he would come, he would
come and take his bride from her father's house and they would
have a procession and they would go into his house and he would
consummate the marriage. That's the picture here. Joyful
picture. Marriage is a joyful picture.
This is it. Christ. Here no doubt is the
bridegroom. He is the bridegroom of His elect
and Christ Jesus, the bridegroom, has come and purchased His bride. He has come and paid the dowry
with His blood offering. He has provided for His bride
a robe of righteousness acceptable unto God so that His bride should
be without spot. His bride should be without blemish. And this was done when God poured
out His wrath upon Christ. That was the price. Consider
the price that Christ paid for His bride. Consider the love
that when sin was found upon Christ, God said, Awake, O sword,
and smite the shepherd, the man that is my fellow. This is the message of reconciliation. Reconciliation. That God was
in Christ, reconciling the world to himself. That's what he was
doing when Christ was here. He was reconciling sinners to
God. He, listen to this, he made reconciliation. He made reconciliation. We don't
make reconciliation, He does. And because He has made reconciliation,
He has given us the word of reconciliation. He has given us the message of
reconciliation. That God was not willing to impute
our sins to us, but instead made Christ to be sin for us. who
himself was spotless, who knew no sin, that we might be made
the righteousness of God in him. This is how he betrothed us to
Christ. This is the price that must have
been paid. He said this in Hosea, I will
betroth thee unto me forever. I will betroth thee unto me in
righteousness and judgment. Isn't that what Christ provided? Righteousness, and he paid judgment. And then he says, in loving kindness
and mercy. That's how he comes to the bride.
He comes to us with a message of mercy. Now, that's Christ
is the bridegroom. Now then, who are the virgins?
The kingdom of heaven here is represented by ten virgins. And I want you to know this,
that these ten virgins are not all the elect of God. No. Not all of these virgins are
the elect of God. But Jesus tells us plainly that
all that the father had given him, he should lose nothing.
How many of his bride is he going to lose? Not one. And yet we
know this, that these five foolish, they were cast out. They were
not permitted into the marriage consummation. We read that that
among this kingdom there are five foolish and five wise. Five virgins that are shut out
and five that are accepted. Therefore, we see the ten virgins
represent the whole professing church. That's what's represented
here. The whole professing church. Some of which are merely outward
professors. There are many in the church
who are mere professors of faith, and then there are others who
are actual possessors of faith. Now, I want you to see this.
Both of these were virgins. They were all virgins, weren't
they? There were five foolish virgins and five wise virgins,
but they were all virgins. What does this tell us? Listen.
Both professors and possessors of true faith may be outwardly
moral. They both may be outwardly moral. You may not be able to tell the
one from the other based on their character. I know there are many
in false religion, if you look at their life and their character,
they are very moral people. Some of them don't mind telling
you about it. They're moral people. You can't find anything wrong
with them. You can find a lot more wrong
with yourself than you can find with them. Secondly, they all
had lamps. They all had lamps. The lamp
is here representative of their religion. Everyone in professing
Christendom confesses They're religion. They confess this,
that they are Christians. They have a profession of religion.
Remember, Paul said, I profited in the Jews' religion. He had
religion, didn't he? Before he was saved by the grace
of God, and then he was known as a Christian, wasn't
he? See, he switched religions. But when he switched to the Christian
religion, he put on that mantle of Christian. And so does even
the false believers, the false professors of faith. They put
on the same mantle you do. Ask him, Are you a Christian?
Well, of course, I am. Is that your religion? Yes, I'm
a Christian. That's my religion. I'm a Christian,
too. So then there's no difference
of their profession of their religion. They all had lamps. Lamps are their religion. And
thirdly, they all waited for the bridegroom. They all waited
for him. No man who claims to be a Christian declares that Jesus is the Christ. They don't deny that he's the
Christ, do they? They don't deny that he died
for sin, they don't deny that he rose again. And so we all, even the true
believers and the false believers, we profess that. We profess that we're waiting
on Christ to come. You know what they're going to
profess? They're waiting on Christ to come too. Notice this fourth thing that
they all had in common is this, they all slumber. They all see
it. They all have sin. They were still, we're all still
prone to sin. Both they and us. Wise and foolish. Now what does
this tell us? It tells us that in every age
in the church, there's always going to be these two groups
of people. And one thing about it is we're
not going to be able to tell them apart. Just not. That's why our Lord says there'll
always be tares among the wheat. And then he gave us instruction.
Don't pull up the tares. Why? You'll pull up the wheat.
You'll get it wrong every time. Let them grow up together. And
then what? In that day when he comes, he
will make that separation. He will manifest that. So it is now there are some who
are just mere pretenders. Some who look and act and even
confess to believe the same Savior as those who
really do believe. Now this teaches us the truth
we cannot tell. These wise virgins did not No,
the others were foolish. They were all together. These
wise virgins didn't say, oh, look at them, they don't have
any more. That's all they said. No, they all stayed together.
They all was waiting for the Lord and they all slept together. They all had, they all looked
alike. You couldn't tell the difference.
Important thing is not to look then to the right and left when
we read this parable, but to look at our own heart. That's
the important message here. Which are we? Which am I? Not which are you. Which one
am I? Am I the wise or the foolish virgin? I want to know. Because I don't
want to be fooled in the end, do you? I don't want to be doomed. So what does Jesus tell us about
these virgins that makes the difference? It's not their morality. It's not their outward character.
It's not their outward religion. It's not their outward profession
in Jesus Christ. But what is it? Look at verse
four. Here's the distinction. Here is the distinction between
the wise and the foolish virgins. He says, but the wise took oil
in their vessels with their lamps. He said in verse 3, the foolish
took the lamps, but no oil. No oil. The wise took both the
lamps with the oil in it. The difference here then is the
possession of the oil. The possession of oil. Now oil
in scripture, it is intended, in this place. What is the oil
for? It's intended to light the lamp. You can't light the lamp
without oil. Now listen, you can light the
wick, but how long will the wick last without the oil? It won't. The oil is that which sustains
and maintains the light in the lamp. That's the purpose of oil,
to give light. I'll tell you this, by nature
we are not light. When you are born into this world,
you have not this oil. We were born in darkness. We
were born in spiritual darkness. We were blind to the things of
God, dead in sins. In Job chapter 25, after declaring
the complete absolute sovereignty
of God over all things. He says this in verse 24 of chapter
12. He said, He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people. The chief of the people is the
best of us, the best of men, the strongest of men, the wisest
of men. taketh away the heart of the
chief of the people of the earth and causeth them to wander in
the wilderness where there is no way. This is what happened.
When we fail in Adam, the chief man, the best of us was lost. Adam, we don't mock Adam. Adam was the best of us. And
yet he failed. And he was lost. God took away. That light that he had. And he
lived in darkness and he says this, they grope in the dark
without light. That's what man is by nature.
He's groping. He's groping in the dark. Behold
the greatness of our blindness. That we cannot see. You that
see now. You that see the gospel. Isn't
it bright? Isn't it clear? Christ is all. Christ is all. To us, it is the
simplicity of the gospel. Why is it simple to you? Because
you can see. But that's not how we were before.
We were groping in the darkness. We were blind. We could not see
the noonday sun and its strength. But because the law of God was
written in our hearts, Because we knew that God existed and
his law was written, therefore, we were religious, weren't we? Man's religious. By nature, we
carry around this lamp and it's out of oil. It's got no light. But we hang on to it as though
it's our only hope, our religion. The groping in the dark, his
religion cannot save him. Not grounded in truth. It's not
grounded in righteousness and judgment. It's grounded in his
passion, in his emotion, in his worldly wisdom, and not the word
of God. Most religion is grounded in
emotion. You got that? You ever see that?
It's grounded in what men feel. It's grounded in what opinion
they have, rather than grounded in the word of God. Why is that? Because they're groping. They
don't know. They can't see it. They grope in the dark. Religion
without the Holy Spirit to give us light is a lamp without oil. Though they may be sincere, yet
without the Spirit they're dead. I bear them record that most
religious men are sincere. They really believe what they
believe. But sincerity does not make it
true. They're blind. God, by grace,
has to give them the Holy Spirit to quicken them to life. He has
to give the sinner light and knowledge of Jesus Christ as
the only Savior. Go to Zechariah chapter 4. Zechariah chapter 4, look at
verse 2. And he said unto me, What seest
thou? And I said, I looked, and behold,
a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl on the top of it, and
his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps. which are on the top thereof,
and two olive trees by it, one on the right hand of the bull
and the other on the left side. So I answered and spake to the
angel that talked with me and said, what are these things,
my Lord? And the angel asked, talked to me, answered and said,
knowest thou not what these be? I said, no, Lord. Then he answered
and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto
Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might nor by power, but by my spirit,
saith the Lord of hosts. Who art thou, O great mountain,
before Zerubbabel? Thou shalt become a plain. He
shall bring forth the headstone. Therefore, with shoutings, crying,
Grace, grace into it. This is a picture now. Get this,
you see this big bowl, right? Full of oil. And you got these
two olive trees that are constantly pouring oil into the bowl. And
from this bowl comes these pipes, and the pipes go out to the lamps. That's the picture here. And the lamp here is the picture
of the church, the lamp And this is through the preaching of the
gospel, the pipes, that's how it comes. And Zerubbabel here in this is
Jesus Christ, and the oil in these lamps is that of the spirit,
not by power nor by might, but what? By my spirit. All of the trees testify of the
infinite source of this oil being poured without measure unto the
saints of God. And what does it, what does this
light, you see this light, it reveals something. He gives a
picture of this lamp, and this lamp has constant supply of oil,
it has constant supply of light, and what does it reveal? Zerubbabel. And who is irrevocable? That's
Jesus Christ. This light of the Gospel always
reveals Jesus Christ. When a man is given the light
of the Spirit of God, he sees Jesus Christ. And what does he
see about it? That the mountains are removed
from before him. What is the mountain? Our sin.
The mountain shall be made a plain. That's good, isn't it? There's
a mountain in the way. A mountain of sin separating
us from God. What does the light of the gospel
reveal? Reveals Christ has removed the mountain. Now it's a plane. Now it's level. Access to God. That's what the
spirit, that's what the oil, that's what the light reveals.
It reveals Christ. Spirit opens our eyes, the eyes
of our soul to see Christ. And not only this, he says that
he is that that headstone, he is that cornerstone. He is the
foundation upon which are the church is built. He's Christ,
the headstone. Behold, now, Christ, as he walked
upon the earth as a man, what was he doing? What was he doing? Why was he sent? They're religiously blind, they
grope in the dark trying to figure out this. What has Christ come
for? Well, He's an example. Wrong. Well, He's trying to help
me to heaven. Wrong. You're groping. You don't know. You don't know
why He came. Even though it's as bright as
a noonday sun, thou shalt call His name Jesus, for He shall
save His people from their sins. See how easy that is? To you
that can see, you understand why he came. To save his people
from their sins. Not to make salvation possible.
That's not what he came for. He came to save his people from
their sins. Blindly groping in the dark. Like the Pharisees before him,
their ignorance. And they go about then to establish
their own righteousness. This includes all those who would
profess to believe Jesus' blood and righteousness, but adds something
to it. If there's anything that you
can add to the blood and the righteousness of Jesus Christ,
what are you doing? You're groping. You don't have any light. You
don't see. I don't care how moral you are.
I don't care how zealous you are. I don't care how religious
you are. I don't care how many ceremonies you've been through,
how many times you've been baptized. If you believe that salvation
is based on Christ plus your will, Christ plus your works,
Christ, Christ plus your sanctification. Friends, you are groping. You
have no light. You have no oil. You've got light
and hope. whose light reveals that he shall bring forth the
last stone, he is the cornerstone, he is the head and foundation
of our salvation. That his obedience to the law
obtained our righteousness and his death obtained our redemption
forever. What did the apostles say in
Hebrews chapter Chapter 10, verse 14. He hath perfected forever
them that are sanctified. Those who are set apart by God,
chosen of God, he hath perfected them forever. Forever. Paul says, the other foundation
can no man lay than that which was laid. Ain't no more foundation. What's your foundation tonight? Christ, isn't it? What's your
hope of acceptance? It's Christ, isn't it? What's
all your righteousness before God? It's Christ, isn't it? What's all your redemption? Your
sanctification? It's Christ, isn't it? Well,
yes. Of course it is. How can you
say that? Because you're not groping. You
see. You see. The light of the Holy Spirit
reveals Christ. We are built upon Him. Have you, sinner, have you seen
this? Do you know that there is only
one sure foundation for your soul? Have you seen that there
is nothing you can add to the works of Christ except to defile
it. If I put anything to his work,
I know this, I've defiled it and it's no good. And what do we say? Grace, grace
into it. Grace, grace. How am I gonna
be saved? Grace, grace. I'm gonna go into
heaven saying grace, grace. Salvation is all of grace. And
all who hear of Christ and believe on Him, they come to Him, they
freely repent and freely believe. This is the work of the oil of
the Spirit to those that believe on Christ. But as I said, there
were ten virgins that professed to believe, so how can we distinguish? Paul said this, I know whom I
have believed. There's how you can distinguish.
Do you know whom you believe? Not what? I'm not asking you
to dig theologically and give me a theological answer. Do you know whom you have believed?
Paul said, I know whom I have believed. Whom do you believe? You take a Pharisee and Apostle
and you ask them both, do you believe in Christ? Ask the Pharisees
if they believed in a Christ. They believed in Christ, didn't
they? So the apostles, so do you. Both
would said yes, but if you were to ask them, who is he? Then
you won't have a difference, right? The apostle would say,
well, Jesus of Nazareth, that's the Christ. And the Pharisees
would say, no. The difference is in the person
we believe, Christ. The same holds true even now.
You that take all the so-called Christian churches and say, do
you believe in the Christ? They'll say, yes. But when Jesus
is preached and declared as He is revealed in Scripture, they
surely will deny it. Scriptures declare that Jesus
is the eternal Son of God. Do you believe that? Well, of
course we do. If you have the light, you know
that. You know that He is God, manifest in the flesh. Christ
was sent to save His people from their sins. He came into this
world and saved those that the Father gave Him, who by nature
were sinners. Jesus came to perform righteousness
and die for their sins. And we believe that He is absolutely
100% victorious. Successful. This is the difference
between modern Christ and the Christ of Scripture. Success.
Success. They believe He made it possible,
which is also possible to fail. But we don't believe in such
a Christ. We believe Christ was successful in that God raised
Him from the dead and has now seated Him upon the throne of
glory, where He is now moving all things to call His people
to save them. And He will save every one of
them. This is what the oil of the Spirit
reveals. It reveals a victorious Savior. Have you ever asked the question,
what good is a Savior that doesn't save? Is He a Savior if He doesn't
save? If He fails to save, can you
call Him a Savior? You can't. A Savior saves. Our Savior saved His people. And He is now saving them. And He will forever save them. And none of them will be lost. I suppose you were to present
that Christ before the modern church, do you think that they
would see that? Do you think they would believe in a Savior
like that. They won't, because they have
no oil. They have no light. All who believe
on Christ, this is the same Christ who was crucified, raised again
for our justification. This is the light that shines
in our hearts, the knowledge of the glory of God. in the face
of Jesus Christ. And this is the gospel that was
preached to us. This was the voice of Christ,
which we heard and even now stirs our hearts to love and serve
him. I want to I love him and I want
to serve him because he was successful. Because he did save me. But I want you to understand
there are times that there's no difference between us and
the professing church in that we fall asleep. How often do true believers fall
asleep? The Lord pictures that, doesn't
He, in that Shulamite bride. We often become lazy and weary. Oftentimes our hearts wax cold
and indifferent to the things of Christ. Often, like Pilgrim, we fall
asleep in the valley of enchantment and wake up in a doubting castle, in a giant of despair over us. And yet, consider the kindness
of our Savior to come to those that are asleep. He puts His
hand to the hole of the door of our hearts, and the fragrance
of the Spirit moves us. I tell you, when I find myself
asleep, I long to be moved by His love. Isn't that something? He doesn't come and bang on the
door and tell us what a horrible wife we are. He comes in love,
puts his hand to the hole of the door, and says, open to me,
my love, my dove, my undefiled. Well, doesn't that strike your
heart? He called me undefiled, and he finds me asleep. He finds me in my sleep. and still
calls me his love, stirs my heart. I wake and trim that lamp. I long for the light to burn
brighter. I long to see his face, to feel
his arms around me. see then the foolish, they too,
when they sleep, they're aroused, but they're aroused in a different
way. They're aroused with conviction of this, they don't have any
oil. And what do they want? They want
you to give them your oil. This is another point about the
foolish virgins, is they believe that salvation can come from
other men. that somehow some other man who
has the Spirit can give you the Spirit. You know, that's what
Simon the Sorcerer wanted to do. That man, he professed to
believe in Christ and he only professed because he wanted the
gift of anointing other men with the Spirit. That's what the modern church
believes is that the pastor has some kind of power, has some
kind of anointing that he can pass along to you. They say,
give us your oil, and what can we say? I didn't give myself
this oil. God gave me this hope. Go to
him that sells it. Go to him and buy it of him. Isn't that what Christ said to
Laodicea in church? He said, come buy of me gold tried with
fire. How do you buy it? With nothing. Oh, everyone that thirsts it,
come ye to the waters. Come buy wine and milk with what?
Without money. And listen, Without price. There's no price
to be able to pay it. It's too priceless. But you come
with nothing. Buy wine and milk without money,
without price. Wherefore do you spend your money
for bread which doesn't satisfy and labor for it? Hearken diligent
to me, eat that which is good. Eat Christ, eat his flesh, drink
his blood. How? By believing on him, trusting
in him. He's good. And then let your
soul delight itself Oh, that my soul would delight
itself. There's much delight in Christ,
isn't there? There's much to rejoice in. Incline your ear and come unto
me here, and your soul shall live. And I will make an everlasting
covenant with you, even the sure mercies of death. This is what
we're telling them. We're telling them to go to Christ.
Isn't this what the wise tell the foolish? Go to Christ! I
have no power to give it to you. My children, I can't give it
to my children. I can't give it to them. They
have to get it from Him. He can only give it to you. I
can't give it to you. Even if I wanted to, I can't. Let the wicked forsake his way.
Here's the rub. Give me. Here's the rub. Let the wicked forsake his way.
Well, I believe you go to God this way. Well, get rid of that. The unrighteous man, his thoughts.
Well, I thought. Forget about what you thought.
Come to Christ. Come to Christ. He'll give you
the oil you need. We are his witnesses. This is
what happened to us, wasn't it? What happened to us. But notice
this in verse 10. While they went to buy the bridegroom
came. While they went to buy. Let's
see. Verse 9. The wise answer would
say not so, lest it would not be enough for you and me. Go
you rather to them that sell and buy for yourselves. And while
they went to buy the bridegroom came. They that were ready went
in with him into the marriage, and the door was shut. Afterwards
came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. This is always a response of
the foolish. They go away. They go away. and they don't come back until
it's too late. The foolish virgins always say
this. Like that king, Agrippa, he said,
almost thou hast persuaded me to be a Christian. Like the other man, he said,
perhaps I'll hear this another day. That day never comes. That day never comes. The foolish
always go away trying to merit their righteousness, find some
way to merit their righteousness. No. Go to him alone that can
give it to you. But they never do. And consider
their case. They come, and he comes, and
notice this. The wise versions are accepted
again. And I like this. And he shuts
the door. The door has two purposes, doesn't
it? To let you in and to shut others
out. That's what He did. We who have
the Spirit of God know Christ is all our hope. We will be brought
in and when that door is shut, and I like this, when that door
is shut, that means you're kept. You're in and the door is closed. But how sad is it going to be
for those who are on the outside of this world? I pray that God would bless this
to your hearts. I pray that God would give you insight into your
own soul to know which you are. I'm not going to tell outwardly.
I'm not going to tell outwardly. This is an inward work. And the
only difference is the Spirit of God. When God gives you the
Spirit, how do you know you have the Spirit? You see Christ? You trust Christ. Only Christ. That's what the old does. And
that old don't go out till it comes. You know Pilgrim's Progress,
I'll give you a close with this. Remember that picture in Pilgrim's Progress?
It was that man, that fire in the pit, and the man was pouring
water on the fire. And the more water he poured
on the fire, the bigger the fire got. And Christian was amazed. He said, I don't understand.
How's that possible? He said, well, come around the other side.
Goes to the other side, and there's a man pouring oil, pouring oil
on the fire constantly. That's the spirit of God, constantly
pouring oil, constantly cleansing. refreshing our spirits, igniting
the fire of love in our hearts. And that light won't go out,
no matter what or who pours up, tries to put it out. I'm so thankful God's given us
this all of the spirit to see Christ. That's all I want to
see. I do see by faith, but I really
want to see it. Pretty new to me.
