All right, if you'll take your
Bibles now and turn with me to Hebrews chapter 11. Hebrews chapter 11,
we're going to read a verse here and then go over to Exodus chapter
14. We'll spend most of our time
in Exodus chapter 14. But I want to read this first
because this is what we're talking about. We've been studying this passage
in Hebrews 11 for a little while concerning true faith. True faith,
again, there is nothing greater for a believer to know this.
Is my faith of God? Is my faith a gift of God or
is it a product of my own imagination? And the apostle gives us these
pictures, these examples of true faith so that we may examine
them and put the light of the Word of God on our faith. Is it real? And so, I've got
several pages of introduction that I can go back and we can
go... I don't have time. I don't have time. If you want
to listen to those messages, you have to go back and listen to them.
I've got to move on. I can't go back. I've got to
move forward here. But we're going to see Moses'
faith. We saw it last time, how that Moses forsook Egypt. All
true faith forsakes Sin, self-righteousness, this world, we see its vanity. True faith forsakes self-salvation
and clings to Christ. We count the treasures and riches
of Christ of greater value than the treasures of Egypt. That's
what Moses did. So do we. And Moses, the Scripture
says in verse 28, through faith, he kept the Passover. We saw
this last time that Moses, that the Passover is a picture of
Christ. He is the Passover lamb. He is that spotless lamb. He
is that lamb that had been slain. He is that lamb that satisfied
the justice of God for the sins of his people. And just as they
were redeemed, the firstborn was saved. When that blood was
applied, they ate that lamb. Even so do we have the blood
applied by the Spirit of God to our hearts, and we by faith
eat Christ. We by faith feast on His body
and His blood, which is through the preaching of this Word. Tonight
you're going to eat. What are you eating? You're eating
the Passover lamb. You're eating Christ. And so
tonight we see again Moses' faith. Look at this in verse 29. "...By
faith they passed through the Red Sea, as by dry land, which
the Egyptians a saying to do were drowned." Now then, if I
had a title, this could be it. All true faith passes through
the Red Sea. All true faith passes through
the Red Sea. Now, I want you to consider the
scene. Consider the picture. The Lord
had just delivered Israel with a high hand. They came out of
Egypt, and those people were cheering, and they were all glad.
They gave them all their jewelry and all their stuff, and they
were gone. They were happy. They had just been delivered
by the blood of the Passover lamb. The Lord judged Egypt,
and their gods killed the firstborn of everyone without the blood.
And now, now God brings them to the Red Sea. Now go over to
Exodus chapter 14. Now God, after delivering them,
they come out, and God gives Moses his entire plan. I love God gives His plan before
it happens. You know why? To prove He's God. Only God knows what He's going
to do. Only God does what He says He's
going to do. And everything and everyone works
together to do exactly what God said He's going to do. Look at
this. In verses 1 through 4, He said this, He spake to Moses
saying, Speak to the children of Israel. Now I want you to
tell everybody this. This is the first thing I'm going to
do. "...that they turn and encamp before Pahira, between Migdal
and the Sea, over against Belzephron. Before it you shall encamp by
the sea. For Pharaoh will save the children
of Israel, they are entangled in the land. The wilderness hath
shut them in." And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he shall
follow after them. And I will be honored upon Pharaoh
and upon all his hosts, that the Egyptians may know that I
am the Lord." Here's God's plan. The first thing He's going to
do is shut the people of God in. He's going to trap His own
people. He's going to bring them to a
place of helplessness. They're going to be surrounded
on every side. And Pharaoh even sees this. He
says this. They are shut in. They are shut
in. Can you not see here the sovereignty
of God in all the affairs of men? He said this. I'm going
to harden Pharaoh's heart. And Pharaoh will pursue after
my people. Now, who did that? Who caused
Pharaoh to pursue after them? God did. You see, the sovereignty
of God among the affairs of men. Job said this, the deceived and
the deceiver are His. You got that? The deceived and
the deceiver both belong to Him. And as Pharaoh rode hard, he
rode hard after them. You see, And the next, and it
was told the king of Egypt that people fled, and the heart of
Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people. And
they said, why have we done this? That we have left off Israel
from serving us. And they made ready their chariots
and took with him, and he took 600 chosen chariots, and all
the chariots of Egypt and the captains, every one of them.
And listen, the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, king of
Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel. He pursued,
he rode hard after them. Pharaoh rode after the Israelites. And here the Israelites, now
God had put them in a helpless place. They looked to the right
and to the left. And look at this. There's my place, there it is.
The Egyptians pursued after them. And look at verse 10. And Pharaoh
drew nigh to the children of Israel, and they lifted up their
eyes. And behold, the Egyptians marched after them, and they
were sore afraid. And the children of Israel cried unto the Lord. You see, God put them in a helpless
place. A place they looked to the right,
they looked to the left. There was no escape for them.
The sea was before them. Pharaoh was behind them. The
mountains were beside them. They themselves were in a hole,
in a valley. There was no way to go. God shut
them in. And they cried unto the Lord. They cried unto God. And look
at verse 13, the answer of the Lord here. And Moses said unto
the people, Fear not. Here's God's promise. Stand still
and see the salvation of the Lord, which He shall show you
today. For the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will
see them again no more forever. It's what God told them before
they encamped. He said, I'm going to get honor
on myself. I'm going to get honor for my name. And then we read
the next in verses 19 through 20. The pillar of cloud that
went before them that led them to this helpless place. It says
the angel of the Lord, that's who was in that pillar of cloud,
Christ. Christ was there. He led them
to this place. He hardened Pharaoh's heart to
pursue after them. And now then this cloud, it lifts
up and it goes in front of them and it goes behind them and makes
a division, makes a separation between Pharaoh and the people
of God. And there's something about this
cloud. To the Egyptians, it was darkness
all night. They couldn't see a thing. But
to the Israelites, it was light. It was light. And then God told
Moses, He said, Stretch forth your hand. And Moses stretched
forth his hand. In verse 21, And Moses stretched
out his hand over the sea, and the LORD caused the sea to go
back with a strong east wind all night, and made the sea dry
land, and the waters were divided. And the children of Israel went
in the midst of the sea on dry ground, and the waters were as
a wall to them on their right and on their left. It's a miracle, an amazing thing. God parted the Red Sea and they
walked through on dry ground. And all Israel walked through
on dry ground, but listen, the Egyptians. God's still hardening
Pharaoh's heart, the Egyptians in verse 23, the Egyptians pursued
after them in the midst of the sea and all Pharaoh's horses
and chariots and horsemen, you know what happened? God popped
the wheels off their chariots. in the middle of this sea. It
was not dry to them. It was dry to the people of Israel,
but to them it was a mud pit. And they got stuck. And their
boldness and their anger turned to fear. And they said this,
the Lord fights for them. The Lord of hosts is with them.
He fights against us. And the Lord said to Moses, stretch
out your, verse 26, stretch out your hand over the sea again.
And you know what? That wall of water came crashing down on
them and crushed that entire army in one fell swoop. And the next day, when they got
up, it took them all night to get across, the next day they
woke up and the dead bodies washed up on the shore, just to make
sure. God, are you sure they're all done? You sure there are
no more enemies? He washed their bodies up on
the shore to show them it's over. The victory was his. God's people, in verse 29 through
31, they were saved. Thus the Lord saved Israel, verse
30, that day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel
saw the dead Egyptians upon the seashore. And Israel saw the
great work which the Lord did upon the Egyptians, And the people
feared God and believed the Lord and His servant Moses. Now, why did God do it this way? Why
do you suppose that God led His people to be shut into that place? Why do you suppose God allowed
Pharaoh His heart, actually God hardened His heart to pursue
after His people. Why did God part the Red Sea
and allow His people to walk on dry land and the Egyptians,
the same to do the same thing, were killed? Why did God do this? Well, two physical reasons, two
historical reasons which both happened. The Lord said, I do
this so that all Egypt knows I'm the Lord. And after that
day, they all knew. And secondly, his second purpose
was this, physical purpose, was to save that nation. Because Christ was supposed to
come from that nation. He saved that people. But I'm
going to tell you, what does that have to do with you and
me? Well, really, if that's all there is, it has nothing to do
with us. There is something that this is intended for us. This
deliverance of Israel, the way and the purpose of God in delivering
Israel this way by the Red Sea is this, so that tonight we may
see the power of God in salvation. This is a picture of how God
saves sinners. By Jesus Christ. By Jesus Christ. Our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew
chapter 22, He testified to those Sadducees. He said, You do err
not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God. Nor the power
of God. Many people are ignorant of Christ
and their need of Him. Men read this book, and they
cannot make any sense of it. They can't make any sense of
it. They read this history of the Red Sea, and they go, OK,
what does this have to do with me? They don't have any clue.
They don't have any clue what this has... They cannot make sense of God's
book. They don't know what it teaches,
even because they've not experienced it themselves. They've not experienced
the power of God themselves. They have no understanding of
God's salvation. How it is that God saves sinners. But you, you who believe like
Moses, like the children of Israel, you by faith pass through the
Red Sea. You have been born again of the
Spirit of God. You've been enlightened. And
like that cloud, that pillar of clouds, that made a division,
didn't it? And I'll tell you tonight, God
makes a division among people. There are people who understand
this book and there are people who don't. Some people, this
book is darkness. But to you who are saved, it
is light. It is light. Paul declares this. I'm not ashamed of the gospel.
Why? Because it's the power of God unto salvation. to everyone that believe it,
for therein is the righteousness of God revealed. I'll tell you,
I was almost duped today. I listened to a fellow, a very
smart fellow, I like him, a very conservative guy, and he's talking
about... I want to talk about God delivering Israel. I said,
well, that sounds interesting. So I started listening to him,
and he was trying to compare it to America and freedom. And for a second there, I had
to shake that off. That's not why God delivered
Israel. To show me freedom in America. He did it to show me His Son. Therein is the righteousness
of God revealed from faith. that righteousness was merited
by the faith of Christ, and righteousness is received by faith in Christ,
from faith to faith. As it is written, the just shall
live by faith. Paul says, "...for the preaching
of the cross is to them that perish foolishness." But to us
who are saved, what is it? What is preaching the cross of
Christ to us, who are enlightened, who are saved? It is the power of God. What
did it take to part the Red Sea? Power of God. What does it take
to save a sinner? Power of God. The power of God. I tell you, it takes more power
to save a sinner than it does to part the Red Sea. But that's
just a picture. That's just a picture. Now, I'm
going to move on here. I'm going to move on. I've got six things. Six things
here. Six things here concerning the
crossing of the Red Sea that illustrates the experience of
God's grace that He has wrought upon every saved sinner. Six
things that we all have experienced that we, by faith, like Moses
and like Israel, have crossed the Red Sea by faith. First of
all, everyone that God saves, He will shut them in and shut
them up. Everyone God saves, He will shut
them in and shut them up, just like He did Israel. here in our
text. Now the first work of grace,
this is the first work of grace, is to shut us in. He brings us to a place where
we are utterly and completely helpless. It's here we see the
helpless and hopeless condition of our natural man. Look at verse 2 again, verses
1 and 2. He tells them, He said, I will
speak to the children of Israel. This is what I'm going to do.
He said, You shall turn and encamp before Pahirath and Migdal and
the sea over against Beelzebub, before it you shall encamp by
the sea. It was God who led His people
out of Egypt and He brought them to a place that is contrary to carnal wisdom. If God's going to deliver His
people, why in the world would He put them in a place where
they're shut up, where there's no escape? This place they encamped
before Pahirath, that means a hole. Pahirath, that's what it means.
They were in a hole. Militarily speaking, what's the
worst place to be in? A hole. You got the low ground. You got no place that you can
put up a defense. So he puts them in a hole and
he sets them on side of Migdal. Now Migdal on both sides are
mountains. They're in a hole and both sides
are mountains. So which way you got to go? Well,
you can either go back or you can go forward. Well, there's
a problem. The sea is in front of them. and now Pharaoh is behind
them. What are they? They are shut
in. They've got no place to go. Israel was led to a place that
was shut in on all sides with no way of escape. Behold this then, the picture
of our salvation. Every child of God, every child
of God, If He's going to save you, the first place He's going
to put you is a hole. He's going to put you in a hole.
A hole of despair concerning your sins. It's here we're made
aware of the corrupt condition of our nature before God. It's here. And Satan now is against
us and pursues us like Pharaoh pursued Israel. God has unleashed
the hounds of hell against us to accuse us of every sin we
have ever committed. We not only are low in a pit,
we have accusations coming from our conscience, from our enemies, And before God we stand in nothing
but guilt and shame. Behold the hole and valley of
the law of God that brings us to despair. You know, Apostle,
you read this in Romans chapter 7. He gives his personal experience
in this. He said, you know what? I was
alive once without the law. When I didn't really understand
what the law meant, I thought I was doing it. But when the
commandment came, sin revived, and what? I died. And the commandment
that I thought was ordained to eternal life, I found to be death.
For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and
by it slew me. Wherefore, the law holy, and the commandment
holy, and just, and good, was in that which made good unto
me, death unto me, God forbid, but sin. What's the purpose of
the law? is this one purpose. It's never
meant to save you. It's only meant to put you in
a hole. That sin might be exceeding sinful. Sin is not just things we do
that are bad or wrong. Sin is exceeding sinful. That's where God brings His people.
Have you ever been exposed? Have you ever been guilty not
before men? Who cares what men think? Have
you ever been guilty before God? Have you ever seen the holiness
of God in the comparison to your own nature? You see, if God's
ever going to save you, that's where He brings you. He shuts
you in and shuts your mouth. When you're guilty, what have
you got to say? When you know your guilt, what
have you got to say? But this is the plan of God all
along. This is the plan of God. He put
them in this place on purpose. He hardened Pharaoh's heart.
That was ordained of God. And so it is true spiritually. When God shuts in His saints
to see their hopeless condition, to see the mountains of their
sins, and that's with those two mountains on both sides. What
are those mountains? The mountains of sin. They can't escape the holy justice
of God. And that Zephraim, that over
against Bel-Zephraim, that was an Egyptian god. What does God
do when He shuts you in? Does He not expose your false
religion? Expose your false gods to be
no help? Bel-Zephraim couldn't save them.
There was a big idol right there on top of that mountain in Bel-Zephraim.
What could it do? When God shuts you in, what could
your God do? Nothing. We found out our God
wasn't God at all. That's what God does when He
saves sinners. Has this been your case? That
God in providence and grace has led you to shut you in to His
holy justice? And I believe that's what the
sea here pictures. If you go through the Scriptures concerning
the sea, you'll understand that that's a picture of God's justice. They couldn't go forward unto
God when we're shut in. We cannot go forward unto God. Our justice is as the sea. We
could not bear its weight. Have you ever been so low in
sin, been so great, that you would not dare approach the holy
God. Luther said, I and myself will
have nothing to do with an absolute God. What could you do? How could you stand? I know this. This is how men
always try to come to God. They try to come to God by their
obedience, by an unholy mixture of Jesus' work and their will,
Jesus' work and their religious ceremonies. But when God saves a sinner,
He must shut him up to all self-righteousness and self-salvation. You don't have to turn here,
but you can read this later in Job 9. He's lamenting. And he asked this question, how
should man be just with God? Oh, you know, that would be a
great question for everyone to ask. How may man be just with
God? He says, if God will not withdraw
His anger and proud helpers stoop under Him, how much less shall
I answer Him and choose my words to reason with Him, whom though
I were righteous, yet I would not answer. He said this, if
everybody in the world said that I was righteous, if I stood before
God, I would not be able to answer Him. And what was Job's hope? He said
this, Would to God there was a day's man, somebody to stand
between me and God. This is the cry of those shut
up and shut in. How can a sinner be just with
God? Now, this is the second thing,
is those who are shut up, they do cry unto God. If you've ever
been shut up to your sin, this is what you'll do. You'll do
exactly what Israel did. Look back in your text. Look
back in your text in verse 10. When they were shut in and shut
up, it's then in verse 10 at the end, it says, and the children
of Israel cried unto the Lord. As Job, they cried for someone
to save them, and the only one, they realized this, the only
one that could save them was God. The only one that could
deliver them from this place was God. These prophets of old, they spake
as they were moved by the Holy Spirit to write, and they wrote
concerning what? Who is the one to save? It was
Christ. They were all looking for Christ
to save them. A mediator, a high priest. I know this is a fact. Men will
by nature cling to anything but Christ alone. Have you not seen some strange
religions? I mean some weird stuff. They would rather I believe
in some Japanese cultures, they believe the earth's flying around
on the back of a turtle. I'm not joking. They believe
that the earth is flying around on the back of a turtle. They'd believe anything. But
this, salvation by Christ alone, without any merits of yourself,
no cling to anything, but Christ alone. But when a man is stripped
and shut in to the holiness of God, to his own depraved nature,
it's then the only place the sinner will look is to Christ. It's like that publican in the
Pharisee. You see, the publican, he had places to go, right? He
had something to look to. He said, Lord, I thank You I'm
not like this guy. I do this, and I do that, and I do this,
and I do that. I like what the Lord said. He's
praying with himself. He's praying to himself. But what did the publican have?
Did you not see him shut up? What did he need? Mercy. When God shuts in a sinner, this
is what He's going to ask for. Mercy. Lord, be merciful to me. The sinner. The sinner. Thirdly, everyone who is shut
up. Now this is a glorious thing.
Everyone who is shut up and shut in will call unto God for mercy. And everyone who calls to God
for mercy will have mercy. He will answer them. This is the third thing, is the
Lord will always answer those that are shut up and shut in.
Look at this in verse 13. And Moses said unto the people,
Here's the answer of God to you who cry for mercy. You are afraid
of the justice of God. You who are pursued hard by Satan
and his accusation. You who are surrounded by mountains
of sin and false gods. Here's God's answer. Don't be
afraid. Don't be afraid. Fear not. Here's what you need to do. Stand
still. Stand still. Two things you need
to do. Stand still and see the salvation. Behold the salvation of the Lord. You who are fearful and helpless
and hopeless, shut in and shut up sinners. Don't be afraid.
Don't be afraid. Here's what you need to do. It
is the most impossible thing for somebody who has something
to offer to do. If you have something to give
God, if you still think you have some power left in you, you can't
stand still. You'll do it. Well, I know this,
salvation's of the Lord, but I have to... And they'll do it. They'll go and find it. Ceremony,
ritual, whatever it is. making a decision, whatever they
want to call it, whatever, fill in the blank. But to those who are shut in
and shut up, what can we do? What could Israel do? God says
stand still, but what else could they do? They didn't have any
other way, anything else to do. They had to stand still. Stand
still and see the salvation of the Lord. In other words, listen,
if you are shut up to the judgment of God and the sins of your nature,
listen, stop working. Stop trying. Have you heard fools
say this? Well, I'm just trying to be a
better Christian. How's that working? How's that
working out for you? If it's going well, you're not
Christian. If it's going well for you and you're climbing the
stairway to heaven, it's because you're not a Christian at all. Stop working. Cease to struggle
in your efforts to please God. In you there is no help. You
cannot put your hand to the work or you'll defile it. You know,
when God told Moses to make an altar of earth, He said this,
don't put one tool to it. Don't lift up your hand. You
make an altar, don't touch it. He said, the day you touch it,
it's defiled. The moment you put your hand
to salvation, it's defiled. The moment you add one thing
to the perfect work of Jesus Christ, you've defiled it. You've
defiled it. Paul says in Galatians 5, I testify,
I testify to you that if you be circumcised, because that
was a thing that was going on in that church. You can put anything
you want to there. If you be circumcised, if you
be baptized, anything you've got to add to Christ, You are a debtor to the whole
law, and Christ has become of no effect to you. Listen, whosoever
you are, I don't care who you are, I don't care how long you've
been a member of this church, and I don't care what you say,
if you add anything to Christ, Christ is of no effect to you.
So what is the message to someone who is lost, without any hope? working, stand still, and do
what else? Behold the salvation of the Lord. Behold the salvation of the Lord
is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the salvation
of the Lord. Behold the battle that you can
never win, the fight against sin, against Satan, against death,
against the justice of God, you could do all that you can and
you would still lose. Behold, this one who has fought
and won the victory is Jesus Christ. See how that He made
the righteousness of God for us. Stop trying to make the righteousness
of God. It's already made. It's already
made. Paul says, even the righteousness
of God, which is by the faith of Jesus Christ. That's how righteousness
was made. It was made by the obedience
of Christ. Now, what did you have to do
with it? Nothing. I'm standing still.
I didn't have a thing to do with it. Christ did it. Behold, the
salvation of God is the righteousness of Christ. And not only this,
but see how he was made sin, how he suffered under the justice
of God. You know, when God told Moses,
he said, you stretch forth your rod over the sea. When Christ hung upon the cross,
God stretched forth his rod and smote the Son of God. Awake, O sword, and smite the
shepherd, the man that is my fellow. God made him to be sin for us,
and he suffered the sea of God's justice. In Isaiah 53, it says, he shall
see of the travail of his soul and be satisfied. Let me ask
you this, was God satisfied with his offering? He either was or
he wasn't. Did Christ make salvation possible
or did He actually accomplish salvation? There's the difference
in religion today. That's the main difference between...
That's the whole difference between the true Church of God and all
false religion. Christ actually accomplished
redemption. He actually satisfied the justice
of God forever. Forever. And by his knowledge shall my
righteous servant justify many for, because he shall bear their
iniquities. Therefore he says to Moses in
our text in verse 15, Go forward, go forward into the sea. But lift up thy rod and stretch
out thine hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of
Israel shall go forth on dry ground into the midst of the
sea. You see, Christ, by Christ, what
did He do? He parted the sea of God's justice
so that you may walk to glory. Walk to glory on sure footing. On Christ the solid rock I stand. What's everything else? All other
ground is sinking sand. He walked through on sure ground.
And so, fourthly, we see this, the movement of faith. The movement of faith. God said,
Go forward. Now, listen. Sinner, I would
never suggest that you ever go to God in your own works. Never. Had Moses not stretched
forth his hand as God commanded, had God not in power divided
the sea, what would happen if they went forward? They would drown. They would
drown. So it is if you go to God without
Christ. You go to God without Christ,
you will die. I would never suggest you go
to God without Christ. God says to Israel this, go forth
into the very judgment bar of God with this confidence. The rod of the Lord was lifted
up, and it was by the death of the Son of God that the sea of
God's infinite justice is now parted, and you are able to come
before God on a firm foundation. And that rock, that foundation,
is Christ Himself. Here is my cause for not fearing. Here is my cause of hope. Though
I am shut in and shut up to my sin and guilt, the blood of Jesus
Christ has atoned for my sin. Jesus has redeemed me from the
curse of the law, from the penalty of sin and death, and from the
power of Satan, and from the judgment of God He has delivered
me. How firm a foundation, you saints
of the Lord, which is laid for your faith in his excellent word?
What more can he say than to you who sit, you who unto Jesus
for refuge have fled? Have you come to Christ? Have
you stood still and seen? What do you see? When you see
salvation, what do you see? I see a person. Jesus Christ is all. O my salvation. Therefore he says to his preachers,
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith the Lord. Speak comfortably
to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, for her warfare is accomplished,
her iniquity is pardoned, for she hath received double at the
hand of the Lord for all her sins. And now we, like Israel,
are walking to the promised land. How do we live? Just like they
walked. How could they walk in the midst
of the sea? Now, I can't even imagine what
they saw. I can't imagine what they saw.
I can't imagine how fearful it was. It was sure, wasn't it? It was sure. How did they walk
through? How did they go forward? Simply
this, by faith. How did they know that the walls
of those waters would not collapse on their head? Because God told
them it would. How do you know you're going
to make it? How do you know you're going
to make it? God said you would. How do I know my sins are forgiven? God says they are. Sometimes I feel like I'm not
going to make it. But just as sure as they made
it, so will you. Not because of you. Do you think
their faith held up that water? The blood of Christ keeps the
judgment of God from crushing you. Not you. The blood of Christ. That's why God won't kill you.
That's why you'll receive all spiritual blessings because of
Christ. Because of Christ. Therefore,
let us keep our eyes fixed on Christ Jesus. Even so now, He's waiting for
us on the other side of this sea. Can you imagine how they saw
the end? Don't you think they looked forward
to getting out of the sea? It was a miracle and everything,
but man, I'm sure they wanted out. How often God's people want out. And what's waiting for God's
people when they leave this world? As He stretches forth His hands
to part the sea, He stretches forth His hands to receive every
one of His children safely on the other side of glory. He is
ready to receive all his children. Fifthly, the pursuit of those
shut up and shut in. Satan, Pharaoh was pursuing after them. They got halfway through the
sea and Pharaoh said, well, I can do that. They did it. Surely I can do it. Well, surely if God saved Glenn,
he had got to save me. Not if you don't come the way
Glenn came. If you don't come by Christ, if you don't stand
still and behold the Son of God by faith, you'll never make it.
They tried to make it on their own power, in their own strength. And what happened? The sea crushed them. Here's
a lesson. If you come to God in your own
strength, God's justice will crush you. If you come in your
own works, you, like Pharaoh, will be destroyed. And the last thing is this, a
warning to all who have not been shut up. Pharaoh is a picture
of false religion, and he drowned. All who seek to face God, justice
in their own strength and works and powers, shall fail. They drive hard. And false religion
drive hard. Boy, they're working hard. I'll
tell you what, sometimes we, you compare God's people to false
religion and we look, we look pretty bad. They're working hard. What is it with vanity? God doesn't
say work. He says stand still and behold
the salvation of the Lord. So now then we see this. If God's
ever going to save you, He's going to shut you up. If God
ever shuts you up, you'll cry to Him. If you cry to Him, He
says this, stand still and see my Son. Behold, Jesus Christ. And so then let us rejoice, for
the waters of justice will never come upon us, because Christ
paid it all. And though we are accused, though
we are pursued by our enemies, They will never overcome us,
but they themselves will be destroyed. And just like the Egyptians were
washed up on the shore, listen, God in His book shows you your
sins have been washed up upon the shore. All that would separate you from
God has been destroyed. How? By Jesus Christ. who are enlightened, you understand
these things. You see these things. Why? You've experienced what
Israel experienced. The power of God. And so they gave glory to God,
and so what do we do? We give glory to God. Isn't that
who saved us? I pray God will bless this to
your hearts. Let's be dismissed in prayer.
Please dismiss us with your blessing. Pour out your spirit as you please
upon us. All that you'd help us to behold
Christ. See him who is the power of God. Under salvation. I pray father that you would
bless your people. Bless your word in Christ name
I ask. Amen.
