Turn with me to Psalm 85 again. A couple of Wednesday nights ago, we looked at the first three verses of this psalm and our outline was six Simple statements that declare what the Lord has done. Verse one says, Lord, thou hast, that was the title of the message. Lord, thou hast been favorable unto thy land. Thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob. Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people. Thou has covered all their sin. Thou has taken away all thy wrath. Thou has turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger." That's six simple declarations of truth. I love a simple, straightforward outline from God's Word. Don't you love that? Well, that's what we have again tonight. We have four simple requests from the heart of all true believers, all true believers. I've titled this a believing hearts cry. Our text will be verses four to seven. Verse four says, turn us. Oh God of our salvation. and cause thine anger toward us to cease. Wilt thou be angry with us forever? Wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations? Wilt thou not revive us again that thy people may rejoice in thee? Show us thy mercy, O Lord. and grant us by salvation. That is four simple requests from the heart of all true believers. Turn us, revive us, show us, and grant us. Turn us, revive us, show us, grant us. Four simple but great requests. And I want us to understand that the subject matter in all four of these requests is, Lord, you, that's the subject, you. Lord, you must do these things because if you don't do these things, they're not going to be done. Verse 4 says, turn us, O God of our salvation, you, O God, turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease. Wilt thou be angry with us forever? Wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations? Wilt thou not revive us again, that thy people may rejoice in thee? Show us thy mercy, O Lord, you. and grant us thy salvation. Lord, would you, would you, that's where we are. That's where we have come to. All right. That's where God's true people are in this moment right now in worship right now, every time we gather together, Lord, would you turn us, revive us, show us and grant us. Those are the requests of our hearts tonight. We're going to think about each one for just a minute. Verse four says, turn us, turn us. Do you know what we need to be turned? We need to be turned. Let me just, in case we haven't thought about this, I've been thinking about this a lot for the last few days. Let me just really make it clear to all of us, we need to be turned. Don't we? We need to be turned. Somebody says, how do you know that? It's because everything about our way, everything about our path that we're on is wrong, starting with starting right here. It's wrong. Everything is wrong. Look with me at Isaiah 55. We just sang, Oh, I need thee greatly need thee. And isn't that so true? Help me, fill me. Isaiah 55 verse seven says, Let the wicked forsake his way. We are the wicked and that's what we need. That's what we need. Well, can I hold on to my way just a little bit? No, we have to forsake our way. We have to forsake the way of man. Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man, his thoughts, forsake his thoughts and let him return unto the Lord. and he will have mercy upon him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Our Lord says, for my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. He said everything about man is wrong. Everything about man's way is wrong. Every path man takes is wrong. If we're on the path of righteousness, that is goodness and mercy from the Lord. That's Christ, isn't it? Look at Proverbs 14. Verse 12, Proverbs 14, verse 12, it says, there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. What way is that? Pick one. Pick one. If it's the way of man, the end of it is death. Every way of man is sin and death and eternal condemnation and destruction. You know what we need, really? We need to be turned. We need to be turned. Turn us, O God, of our salvation. I believe all of God's people can say, He turned me. He turned me. It doesn't matter if we came from the gutter or the pew. From sin, from self-righteousness. We need to be saved from what we are. We need to be saved from where we're headed. We've rebelled. We've strayed. Turn us. Turn us. This is what those two words mean. Turn us means cause us to return. Cause us to return. Cause us to come back. Bring us back so you won't be angry with us. We need you to bring us back so you won't be angry with us. So your anger will not continue forever. Look with me at Psalm 80. I love this. Psalm 80, look at verse three. Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine we shall be saved. Now look at verse 7. Turn us again O God of hosts and cause thy face to shine and we shall be saved. Now look at verse 19. Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine and we shall be saved. Turn us again and again and again because we need it again and again and again. Turn us again. Well, didn't he already turn us? Yeah. Turn us again. Turn me again. How long does it take for you to go back to your wrong path. After the Lord, you know, we come in here to the worship and this is where he moves. This is where he moves. We open this book. We speak his word, his spirit comes and he says, live. And we say, yeah. Now, how long does it take to leave that and go back to the old path? Turn us again, turn us again, turn us again. All right, here's the good news. That's the cry of every true believer, turn me again. Here's the good news. Solomon said, the king's heart is in the hand of the Lord. Like the rivers of water, he'll turn it wherever he wants it to go. Oh, turn us, Lord, and we'll be turned. You turn us and we'll be turned. Go with me back to Psalm 85. Verse four says, turn us, O God, of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease. Wilt thou be angry with us forever? Wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations? Wilt thou not revive us again? Wilt thou not revive us? You know what we need to be? Revived. That's what we need to be. Revived. You know, we get out there in our own way, we get out there in the world on our own path, doing our own thing, and all of a sudden we realize, I am sin. I am weakness full of weakness. And in our flesh and in our weakness, we say, he's going to be angry with me. Are you angry with me again? He already said he was going to turn his anger forever. But we need to be revived to that truth. We need to be revived to hear that again. Revive us again. This is what those two words mean. They mean sustain our life. sustain our life, not just keep us living but keep us alive, sustain our life. It means keep us quickened, keep us quickened. Look with me at Psalm 138. Psalm 138, verse 7. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me. Thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me. The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me. Thy mercy, O Lord, endureth forever. Forsake not the works of thine own hands. The same hand that will turn us, that same right hand will revive us. Who is that right hand? Who is the right hand of God? Jesus Christ is his name, the Lord Jesus Christ. Our sustainer, our keeper, our quickener, we need him so We need him so badly. Turn us, revive us, see if you can find the book of Hosea. If your Bible's like mine it's page 1129 in the Old Testament, Hosea. Chapter 6, Hosea 6, verse 1, it says, Come and let us return unto the Lord, for he hath torn and he will heal us. He hath smitten and he will bind us up. After two days will he revive us. In the third day he will raise us up and we shall live in his sight. That happiness to anybody? What do we see in that? We see the cross, we see the cross in that. The cross is what returned us to the Lord. The cross is what tore Christ and healed us. The cross is what smoked Christ and binded us, bound us. After two days, of the agony and the suffering and the judgment and the death of the cross for our sin on that third day. By his resurrection, he raised us up together with him and seated us in heavenly places with him to live with him forever in his sight. Oh, Lord, revive us. Revive us. Habakkuk said, revive thy work in the midst of the years. Revive your work. Go back to Psalm 85. Verse four. Turn us, O God, of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease. Wilt thou be angry with us forever? Wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations? Wilt thou not revive us again, that thy people may rejoice in thee? Show us thy mercy, O Lord. Show us, show us thy mercy. You know, when we observe our Lord's table, he said, in doing this, we do show the Lord's death. Lord, let us really see it. Let us really enter into it. Let us, oh, taste and see. Show us. What that means is, cause us to consider. Isn't that what we want to do when we come in here? We don't want to just come in here and have another service. Let us come in here and consider. Show us means cause us to see. Your mercy, if we've never seen your mercy before, cause us to see. If we are one who has never seen the mercy of God, cause us to see. If we are one who has seen the mercy of God, cause us to see. Turn us to your mercy, quicken us to your mercy, show us. Cause us to behold your mercy. Where do we see God's mercy? In Christ, only in Christ, completely in Christ. Look with me at Exodus 33. Exodus 33, verse 12. And Moses said unto the Lord, see thou sayest unto me, bring up this people, and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight. Now, therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, show me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight, and consider that this nation is thy people. Verse 17, and the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken, for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name. And Moses said, I beseech thee, show me thy glory. Show me your way. Show me your glory. We would be so wise to ask the Lord that from this heart. Show me your way. Show me your glory. Verse 19, and he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee. and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. I'll be gracious, I'll be merciful in Christ, in the cliff of the rock. Verse 22, it'll come to pass, while my glory passes by, I'll put thee in a cliff of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by. That rock is Christ, That hand is Christ. Lord, show me that. Let me repeat that. That rock is Christ. That hand is Christ. Lord, show me that. Show me that, cause me to see that, cause me to perceive it, cause me to believe it, cause me to cling to it as my only hope of salvation. Show me that. Turn with me to Psalm 16. This is Christ speaking here in Psalm 16. This is also all of God's people in Christ speaking. Verse 11. Thou will show me the path of life. In thy presence is fullness of joy. At thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore. Lord, show me that. Thou wilt show me the path of life. Few there be that find it. Show me. Not many people that walk this earth are gonna be saved. Broad is the way that leads to destruction. False religion is going into destruction. Preachers are going into hell, and people are following them. And our Lord said, straight is the way, narrow is the gate that leads to life. Few there be that find it. Show me. Lord, show me. Please show me. Show me that. Turn over to Psalm 25. I'm almost finished here. Psalm 25. Verse four, it says, show me thy ways, not man's way, not my way. Show me thy ways, O Lord. Teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth. And teach me, for thou art the God of my salvation. On thee do I wait all the day. Lord, show me that. Show me your way, your truth, and your life. Christ said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. Show me that. Lord, show me that. Reveal Christ to me. Turn over to Psalm 86. Verse 17. Show me a token for good that they which hate me may see it and be ashamed because thou, Lord, hast or helped me and comforted me. Show me a token that proves your goodness to me and proves that you've helped me and comforted me. Show me a token. Do you know that he has? You know what that token is? Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. An eye to Christ. An eye that sees Christ, faith in his blood for the punishment of all of our sins. Faith in his righteousness for the worthiness of all of our acceptance. Faith in Jesus Christ alone. That's our token. It's our earnest. Lord, show us that. Right here, back in Psalm 85, verse four says, turn us, O God, of our salvation. and cause thine anger toward us to cease? Wilt thou be angry with us forever? Wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations? Wilt thou not revive us again that thy people may rejoice in thee? Show us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy salvation. Earn us, revive us, show us, and grant us. That means give to us. Freely, graciously give to us thy salvation. That's what we're asking. Freely, in my hand, no price I bring. Freely, graciously give to us thy salvation. Lord, we don't have the capability of earning it. That's where we've come to, that's what we've come to realize. We don't have the capability of earning it, you're going to have to give it to us. Isaiah 55 says, ho, everyone that thirsteth for salvation, for Christ, come ye to the waters and he that hath no money Nothing of his or her own of any value. You come freely, buy and eat without money and without price. If any man thirsts, if any woman thirsts, let him or her take the water of life freely. Salvation's by grace. We're saved by grace. It's a salvation that cost Christ everything. so it could be granted to us freely. All right, last one. Ephesians three. I love this right here. This is a good benediction, this is a good closing remark, a good closing prayer. Really, really read this, really enter into this, okay? Based on everything we've said. Ephesians 3, look at verse 14. For this cause, I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that he would grant you according to the riches of his glory to be strengthened with might by his spirit in the inner man. That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith, that you being rooted and grounded in love may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height, and to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God." Now watch verse 20. that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that worketh in us. Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. Lord, turn us to Christ. Revive us in Christ. Show us Christ. Grant us Christ. Now unto him that's able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. To him be glory forever. Amen.
