Go with me back to Matthew 28. Matthew 28 felt led to be in
Matthew tonight because. The next. Thing that caught my
attention was just so sweet and tender
and holy. It felt like a warm, cozy evening
message to me. That's what it felt like. This blesses me so much because
I want to do this. I personally want to do this
physically. But I pray we all will do this
spiritually tonight. This is my desire for every one
of us. Verse nine, Matthew 28, verse
nine says, and as they went to tell his
disciples, behold, Jesus met them saying all hail. And they came and held him by
the feet and worshiped him. Isn't that so precious? Can you envision that moment
then in complete elation? Moments before this, they're
walking to the tomb in utter sorrow. You know, they're holding
all their spices and talking about how in the world are they
going to get that stone rolled away from the door. And they
get there, and the stone's rolled away, and they see all these
soldiers laid out like dead men. And a couple of men in white
said, he's alive. Now you go tell your brethren
that he is going to see, you're going to see him in Galilee.
And all of a sudden, they went quickly and did run to bring
the disciples word. And as they're running, there
he is. And he says, all hail. And the elation just falling at his
feet, holding on to him. WORSHIPING HIM. JUST TRULY WORSHIPING
HIM. I WANT TO DO THAT. I WANT TO
DO THAT. VERSE 9 SAYS, AS THEY WENT TO
TELL HIS DISCIPLES, BEHOLD, JESUS MET THEM, SAYING ALL HAIL. HE MET THEM. THEY CAME TO HIM,
BUT HE CAME TO THEM. HE MET THEM. revealed himself
to them. Turn with me over to John 20.
John 20. Verse one says, the first day
of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early when it was yet dark unto
the sepulcher and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulcher.
Then she runneth and cometh to Simon Peter and to the other
disciples whom Jesus loved and saith unto them, they have taken
away the Lord out of the sepulcher and we know not where they have
laid him. Peter therefore went forth and that other disciple
and came to the sepulcher. So they ran both together and
the other disciple did outrun Peter and came first to the sepulcher. And he stooping down and looking
in saw the linen clothes lining yet went he not in. Then come
as Simon Peter following him and went into the sepulcher and
see if the linen clothes lie and the napkin that was about
his head not lying with the linen clothes but wrapped together
in a place by itself. Then went in also that other
disciple which came first to the sepulcher and he saw and
believed For as yet they knew not the scripture that he must
rise again from the dead. How could they not know? Isn't
that so amazing? As he said, you know, we read
Sunday morning, this is what I'm going to do. This is what
I'm going to do. This is what I'm going to do. They didn't,
they had no idea about him rising from the dead. And I've said
it before, but I wonder how many things we don't see that are
right here, but we just can't see him yet. Verse 10, then the
disciples went away again unto their own home, but Mary stood
without at the sepulcher weeping. And as she wept, she stooped
down and looked into the sepulcher, and seeth two angels in white
sitting, the one at the head and the other at the feet, where
the body of Jesus had lain. And they say unto her, Woman,
why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because
they've taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid
him. And when she had thus said, she turned herself back and saw
Jesus standing and knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus saith unto
her, Woman, why weepest thou? Whom seekest thou? She supposing
him to be the gardener. Is that not amazing? She thought
he was an employee of the garden. You talk about the, he's in his
glorified state. I think of just the humility
of our Lord. She, supposing him to be the
gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence,
tell me where thou hast laid him and I will take him away.
Jesus said unto her, Mary, She turned herself and said unto
him, Rabboni, which is to say, master. Jesus saith unto her,
touch me not, for I am not yet ascended to my father. And what
he meant by that was you're going to have to let me go. You can't
stay here all day. Holding on to me like this. You have an errand to run. Verse 17, Jesus saith unto her,
touch me not, for I'm not yet ascended to my father, but go
to my brethren and say unto them, I ascend unto my father and your
father and to my God and your God. Mary Magdalene came and
told the disciples that she had seen the Lord and that he had
spoken these things unto her. Our Lord revealed himself to
her and to the other Mary and whoever else was with them. And
that's how it is every single time. If we are going to see
him, even with spiritual eyes, He is going to have to reveal
himself to us every single time. Every single time. We are dependent
on him to do that for us tonight. We're dependent on that tonight.
Lord, reveal yourself to us again tonight. Reveal your you have
revealed yourself to us before. Reveal yourself again tonight. We're here to meet with him,
but we need and we beg of him to meet with us to reveal himself
again to us to speak to us that we might see him. I want to see
him. And know him and draw near to
him and I want to worship him. I want to worship him. Go back
to Matthew 28. Verse nine says, as they went
to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them saying all hail. That means rejoice. It means
be glad. It means good day. It means God's speed to you. And that's what the gospel is.
Good news, glad tidings, something to rejoice in, God's speed, God's
goodness to us. Verse nine, as they went to tell
his disciples, behold, Jesus met them saying all hail. And when they saw it was him,
when they recognized him, when they realized he was alive, alive
and well, their living Lord, verse nine says they came to
him. I can see them running to him.
You know, we just read John and it clearly gives us a lot more
information in your mind is just like mine trying to figure out
how does all this make sense and all of these different accounts
go together. What happened in what order?
I don't know the answer to that, but if he said it, amen, however
he wrote it, that's what happened. But I can see them. running to
him, falling at his feet. And they're just holding on to
him. They're just holding on to him. When a sinner comes to
Christ, that's where the sinner comes to. You know, that coming
to Christ is a downward thing. I know that we see him as being
up, and he is up. But when a sinner truly comes
to Christ, that sinner comes down. That sinner comes down
to his feet. When a sinner kisses the sun,
kiss the sun lest he be angry. When a sinner kisses the sun,
that's what the sinner kisses, his feet, truly his feet. We come humbly and lowly and
reverently and thankfully and joyfully. We come to his feet
because that's where he is to be worshipped, at his feet. We
worship him at his feet. Turn with me to Luke 10. Luke 10 verse 38 says, Now it came to pass as they went
that he entered into a certain village and a certain woman named
Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called
Mary, which also sat at Jesus's feet and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about
much serving, and came to him and said, Lord, dost thou not
care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore
that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto
her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many
things. But one thing is needful and
Mary hath chosen that good part which shall not be taken away
from her. We sit at his feet because that's
where he is to be worshiped. That's where we hear from him.
That's where we learn from him and worship him. We sit together. We sit together. at his feet. I love the thought of that. What
an enjoyable place to sit together at his feet. You know, in glory,
I believe we're going to sit at his feet. I believe his enemies
are going to be made his footstool. And we're going to be sitting
there together. A number no man can number. We'll
all be sitting there at his feet together. Can't explain that,
but Let me show you some precious
scriptures that I found concerning his feet. All right, turn with
me to Isaiah 52. Isaiah 52, the heading at the
top of my page says, the welcome tidings of Christ's kingdom. This is speaking of Christ and
his kingdom. Verse seven says, how beautiful
upon the mountains, the mountains of Zion were marching design.
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth
good tidings, that publisheth peace, that bringeth good tidings
of good, that publisheth salvation, that saith unto Zion, thy God
reigneth. Who brought the good tidings
of the gospel to us? Who published peace and salvation
for us? Who is it exactly that said to
our hearts, thy God reigneth? Christ did. Our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ did. He is the one with the beautiful
feet. He is the one with the beautiful
feet. I believe the moment we see him,
that that'll be one of the things that just strikes us. Look at
his feet. We will look at his feet. I'll, we'll see a proven reason
why in just a minute. But that's what we will see.
Oh, they're so beautiful. Look at his feet. They're just
so beautiful. They're beautiful. And we worship him there because
those are the feet that brought the gospel to us. The good tidings
of great joy, peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners
reconciled. Turn with me to Luke seven. Luke seven, verse 36. And one of the Pharisees desired
him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisees
house and sat down to meet and behold a woman in the city, which
was a sinner. when she knew that Jesus sat
at meet in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
and stood at his feet behind him, weeping, and began to wash
his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her
head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee which had
bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if
he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of
woman this is that toucheth him, for she is a sinner. And Jesus
answering, said unto him, Simon, I have some what to say unto
thee. And he saith, Master, say on. There was a certain creditor
which had two debtors, the one owed 500 pence and the other
50. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them
both. Tell me therefore, which of them
will love him most? Simon answered and said, I suppose
that he to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, thou hast
rightly judged. And he turned to the woman and
said unto Simon, seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house,
thou gavest me no water for my feet, but she hath washed my
feet with tears and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Thou
gavest me no kiss, but this woman, since the time I came in, hath
not ceased to kiss my feet. My head with oil thou didst not
anoint, but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. Wherefore
I say unto thee, her sins, which are many, are forgiven. For she
loved much, but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth
little. And he said unto her, thy sins
are forgiven. And they that sat at meet with
him began to say within themselves, who is this that forgiveth sins
also? And he said to the woman, thy
faith has saved thee, go in peace. That sinful woman washed his
feet and kissed his feet and anointed his feet because those
were the feet that brought pity to her. and compassion to her and tender
mercy to her and forgiveness to her. Those were the feet that
were connected to the man. And isn't it just so amazing
that that's how he is, that's his heart in the matter, that's
what he is and that's what he does for sinners, isn't that
incredible? Look at Luke 24. After our Lord's resurrection,
He walked with two on the road to Emmaus. And again, these were
two that walked with Him for three and a half years. And they
didn't, they couldn't see him. They didn't know him. He had
to reveal himself every time he has to reveal himself. And
what that means is we need to beg Lord, reveal yourself to
me, reveal yourself. Let's not assume on him. But after he did finally reveal
himself to them, look at verse 31. It says, and their eyes were
opened and they knew him. and he vanished out of their
sight. And they said one to another, did not our heart burn within
us while he talked with us by the way and while he opened to
us the scriptures? And they rose up the same hour
and returned to Jerusalem and found the 11 gathered together
and them that were with them saying, the Lord is risen indeed
and hath appeared to Simon. And they told what things were
done in the way, and how he was known of them, and breaking of
bread. And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst
of them and said unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified
and affrighted, and supposed they had seen a spirit. And he
said unto them, why are you troubled, and why do thoughts arise in
your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet,
that it is I myself. Handle me and see, for a spirit
hath not flesh and bones as you see me have. And when he had
thus spoken, he showed them his hands and feet. John's account
says he showed them the nail prints. in his hands, in his
side, in his feet. We worship him at his feet because
those are the feet that brought salvation to us. Nails were driven
into those beautiful, precious feet. Blood ran down, blood ran
out of those beautiful, precious feet to pay the price of our
redemption. Those five scars on his hands,
his side and his feet, those will be the eternal reminder
of our redemption. We're going to worship him forever
because of those scars, forever. There's that old song, it says,
I'll be looking for scars up in heaven. Scars that love held
on the tree. Scars that turn judgment to mercy
for a hell-deserving sinner like me. Thank God for those scars.
We're gonna look at his feet. We're most definitely gonna look
at his hands, his side, his feet. We are right now holding to those
scars. We will forever, but we are right
now. All right, one more, go to Revelation 1. Revelation 1, verse 9. I, John, who also am your brother
and companion in tribulation and in the kingdom and patience
of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos for the
word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. I was in the
Spirit on the Lord's Day, and heard behind me a great voice
as of a trumpet, saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and
the last, and what thou seest, write in a book, and send it
unto the seven churches which are in Asia, unto Ephesus, and
unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis,
and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. And I turned to see
the voice that spake with me, and being turned, I saw seven
golden candlesticks. And in the midst of the seven
candlesticks, one like unto the Son of Man, clothed with a garment
down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
His head and his hairs were white like snow, like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes
were as a flame of fire, and His feet like undefined brass,
as if they burned in a furnace." We worship Him at His feet because
they bore the judgment of God's fiery wrath for us. Our Lord said in Isaiah 43, When
you walk through the fire, you are not going to be burned. And
it's because he was burned for us. His beautiful, glorious feet
burned for us. You know, when Nebuchadnezzar
threw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into the burning, fiery
furnace, he said, didn't we throw three men in there? I see four. Loose, walking around. And the fourth one looks like
Jesus Christ. The Son of God. He said, pull those men out of
there. When they did, there was not one sign of fire on them. Christ took it all. He bore it
all. He suffered it all. You know,
if we think that's amazing, just think of the miracle of no Remnants
of sin on us. After enduring the fire with
us, for us, no remnants of sin. Like in that furnace, he suffered
it all. His feet are the only feet that
look like they burned in the fiery furnace of God's wrath
for our sin because His feet were the only feet that burned
in the fiery furnace of God's wrath. And for that, we worship
him. We worship him. Because of that
reason, we worship him. That is why we worship him. That's the reason why. That's
why we're holding on to him and can't let go. Like Jacob, I can't
let you go. Wherever his beautiful feet go,
that's where we want to go. We just want to stay there with
him. Look at Matthew 28 one more time. Verse nine, and as they went to tell his
disciples, behold, Jesus met them saying all hail. And they came and held him by
the feet and worshiped him. We worship him. God's sheep, God's people worship
him. We worship him, we're not doing
church. I used to know somebody that
was their vocabulary. Every now and then they would
do church. We're not doing church, we worship him. We worship him. Worship is of the heart, it's
not of the head, it's not of the lips, and it's not of the
hands. It's of the heart. It's truly of the heart out of
the heart or the issues of life. True worship is a reverence. I cannot stand this flippant
speech in way concerning Jesus. I can't stand it. True worship
is a reverence. It is a, um, it's a formality. It's a respect. It's an adoring, it's an adoration. It is a praising, a glorifying,
it's an exalting. That's what it is. It's a true feeling of worthiness
to the one that we're worshiping. He is worthy. That's what we
feel about the Lord Jesus Christ. Thou art worthy. You're so much
more worthy than Anything we could ascribe to you, worthy
is he, worthy is the lamb that was slain, worthy. By God's grace,
we are going to hold on to that forever. Worthy, worthy, worthy
is the lamb forever. And by God's grace, we're never gonna
let go. We're not gonna let go. You know,
they had to let go for a minute. They did have an errand to run.
He said, you're going to have to go. Tell your brethren that
they're going to save me, but. They're holding on right now.
And we are too by faith. We are too in spirit and one
day soon it will be by sight. It'll be. Physically holding
on to him physically. That's something to look forward
to. Maybe I'm.
