Turn with me to Matthew 26. Matthew
26. Beginning with verse one, it
says, and it came to pass when Jesus had finished all these
sayings, he said unto his disciples, you know that after two days
is the feast of the Passover and the son of man is betrayed
to be crucified. then assembled together the chief
priests and the scribes and the elders of the people unto the
palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, and consulted
that they might take Jesus by subtlety and kill him. But they said, not on the feast
day, lest there be an uproar among the people." For this Bible
study, I would like for us to enjoy two words that we just
read. Two words. It's the first two words of verse
two. Our Lord said, you know, you
know. You know that after two days
is the feast of the Passover and the son of man is betrayed
to be crucified. You know this. You know this. They didn't know
that. They kept forgetting it. The
disciples kept forgetting it. They didn't really get it. It wasn't until Acts chapter
one that Peter said, wait a minute. They're all sitting in that upper
room and the Holy Spirit came down and revealed. The Holy Spirit
opened up and Peter said, wait a He told us all of this was
going to happen. You know, before that they were
saying, we thought He was our Redeemer, but they hung Him on
a cross and He died. And then all of a sudden He said,
hold on, wait a minute. He told us all this was going
to happen. And He did, many times. They didn't get it, but He told
them and He told them and He told them. Look with me at Matthew
16, Matthew chapter 16. Verse 21 says, from that time
forth began Jesus to show unto his disciples how that he must
go unto Jerusalem and suffer many things of the elders and
chief priests and scribes and be killed and be raised again
the third day. And verse 22, Peter said, no,
we don't want you to do that. That's what he told him he must
do. And Peter said, no, we don't want that. They knew enough to
know that they didn't want him to die, but they didn't understand
what he was saying. Look at Matthew 17 verse 22. And while they abode in Galilee,
Jesus said unto them, the son of man shall be betrayed into
the hands of men. And they shall kill him. And
the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding
sorry. They understood enough about
it to be depressed over the thought of it. He told them that and
they all got depressed at the thought of it. But they didn't
get what he was saying. It hadn't reached the conviction
of their heart. Look at Matthew 20. Matthew 20 verse 17, it says,
and Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the 12 disciples apart in
the way and said unto them, behold, we go up to Jerusalem and the
son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto
the scribes and they shall condemn him to death. and shall deliver
him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify him. And the third day he shall rise
again. They were told this, they were
well informed of this. And he said to them, you know
this, you know, you know, when I read that, I was just so intrigued
by our Lord saying that it made me think of things that right
now, Because of His Word, we know. Right now, there are things
that we know. Things that we most definitely
forget all the time. But we know them. And every time
we see them in the Word, we're reminded of them. And that's
what I want us to do for just a minute. I want us to be reminded
from the Word of some things that we know. I've titled this
Bible study, Things That God's People Know. And I hope in seeing
this, it'll comfort us that we're one of God's people. Things that
God's people know. Things that God's people specifically
know, okay? Turn with me to Isaiah 59. Isaiah 59 verse one says, behold,
the Lord's hand is not shortened that it cannot save neither his
ear heavy that it cannot hear, but your iniquities have separated
between you and your God. and your sins have hid his face
from you that he will not hear. And in the next few verses after
that, the Lord starts listing what those sins are. And then
in response, his people say in verse 12, Isaiah 59 verse 12,
they say, our transgressions are multiplied before thee and
our sins testify against us. For our transgressions are with
us, and as for our iniquities, we know them. We know them. We know. We know that we are sinners. We know that we are sinners.
I wrote this out this week. You know, I really, I wrote it
out because I felt convicted to write it out. I felt this
is what was the message for the morning. As I was studying this,
this morning, I believe the Lord really let me enter into this.
God's people know that they are sinners. I mean, you want to
find a character trait of God's people. You want to really find
a telltale sign of God's people. You want to see an evidence of
a child of God. God's people know that they're
sinners. We don't think that there's a
possibility we could be sinners. We don't. We are not hoping that
we are not sinners. You know, God punishes sinners.
I sure hope I'm not a sinner. That's not us. We are not hoping
that we're not sinners. We know for an absolute fact
we're sinners. I'm a sinner. Some are blind to their actual
condition. Some are delusional about their
standing before God. Not God's people. We know. I
mean, we know. We are sinners before God and
we know it. That's something God's people
know. Look at Romans 3. Romans 3 verse 19. Now we know that what things
so ever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law,
who's under the law? Everybody in this room. We know that what things so ever
the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law that every
mouth may be stopped and all the world may become guilty before
God. That's us, and we know it. You
know, men and women like to run their mouth. They run that mouth
until God reveals their sin, and all of a sudden, they do
what Job did. I think it's time I put my hand
over my mouth. Verse 23 says, all have sinned and come short
of the glory of God. Somebody says, not me! Hold on
now. Who's saying this? The Holy Spirit
of God Almighty is saying this. Verse 10 up there says, as it
is written, there is none righteous. No, not one. There is none that
understandeth. There is none that seeketh after
God. They are all gone out of the
way. They are together become unprofitable. There's none that
doeth good. No, not one. We know that. I believe there's a little bit
of good in everybody. Not according to God. not according to God. We know that this law, this is
inside the covers of this book, this is called the law of God,
but this is the law and the commandments of God. We know that this law
only exposes the fact that we are sinners. This is how we know
that all men and women are guilty before God. guilty sinners before
God Almighty. That is the purpose of this law. That's what this law does, and
we know that. We know that. The law was not
given so we could measure our success by it. Well, let me see
how I'm doing. I'm doing pretty good. That's
not why this law was given. This law was given to expose
our sin and guilt before God, and we know that. Look with me
at Romans 7. Romans 7 verse 14, it says, for
we know that the law is spiritual. But I am carnal, sold under sin. There is nothing wrong with this
law. You know, you get a hold of the fact that we can't, we're
not saved by it, we can't live up to it, and it's almost like
sometimes we take on the mindset of that, you know, that's bad,
you know, don't touch the, that's law now, don't give me law. The
law is good. There's nothing wrong with the
law. The law is holy, it's just, it's right. The problem is with
me. I'm the problem. I know that. We know that. We know, number one, we are sinners
before God. We know that. All right, go to
John 14. John 14 verse four, our Lord
said, and whither I go, you know, and the way, you know, the way,
you know, God's people know that there's only one way of salvation. There is only one way of salvation. God's people know that, and God's
people know that that one and only way is a person. And God's people know who that
person is. Look at verse five. It says,
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest,
and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the
way. I am the way. The law is not
the way. We know that. The law is not
the way. Jesus saith unto him, I am the
way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the Father
but by me. Verse 7, if you had known me,
you should have known my father, my father also. And from henceforth,
you know him, you know, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him,
Lord, show us the father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith
unto him, have I been so long time with you, Philip, and yet
hast thou not known me? He that hath seen me hath seen
the Father. And how sayest thou then, show
us the Father? Why are you saying that? I heard a very famous interviewer,
a very, very, you all know this interviewer. I heard a very famous
interviewer ask a very famous false preacher, Is there only one way to God?"
This mega, mega well-known false preacher. This interviewer said, is there
only one way to God? And this lying false preacher
said, well, there's only one way to God, and that's Jesus. But there are many ways to Jesus. Number one, that's not true.
That's not true. John 6, 44 says, no man can come
to me except, this is the one and only way right here, except
the Father that sent him draw that sinner to me. That's the
only, there's only, is there only one way to God? Yes, there's
only one way to God, the Lord Jesus Christ. And there's only
one way to the Lord Jesus Christ. God the Father has to reach down
that hand, lay hold of you, and drag you to him. And when he
does, you will come running willingly. That's the only way. That's the
only way, and God's people know that. They know that. Clearly,
that false preacher does not know the way to God, Clearly
he does not have any idea who God actually is. You know, in
what he said, to say that there's one way to God but many ways
to Jesus, that's to say they're two separate people. Are they
two separate people? Yes. But this is what he said,
I and my Father are one. You've seen me, you've seen the
Father. He said, have I been so long
time with you? Men and women outside of Christ,
they naturally do not know, but God's people know. They know
all the Godhead is seen and known in the person. He's the fullness
of the Godhead. You want to see the Holy Spirit?
You look at Jesus Christ, the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Our Lord told that woman at the
well, you know not what you worship. I'm telling you, that's the prevailing
sorrow of religion today. People have no idea what they're
worshiping. They're worshiping the idea of religion, just religion,
heaven, you know, saved, but they don't know what they're
worshiping. Our Lord said, we know what we worship. And what
we worship is a who. We worship a who, a person. Again, I've told you this before,
like this other, a different false preacher that I heard conduct
a wedding one time. I couldn't believe it. He ended
the wedding with a prayer. And he closed the prayer with
the words, to God. whoever he or she may
be. And I thought, you've got to
be kidding me. You're a leader of religion? You have to not open the two
covers of this book. I mean, there's no way you could
read one page of this book to believe anything other than God
Almighty is He. I am He. I'm He. Mankind naturally has no idea
who he worships, but God's people know. They know. The Apostle
Paul said, I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that
He is able. He's able. Turn with me to 2
Corinthians 8. 2nd Corinthians 8 verse 9 says, For you know the grace of our
Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes,
he became poor, that you through his poverty might be rich. We know that he gave all. We know that. We know that we are sinners worthy
of death. We know who our only savior in
God is. And we know that he gave his
all to us. He gave his all for us. We know that he was rich and
for our sakes, he made himself to be poor. He emptied himself. He emptied himself. That we,
through His emptying, might be rich. We know that He completely
traded places with us. That's what it means. Everything
that He is, was, had, He gave it to us. He completely traded places with
us. He did that for us. He took our sin. He gave us his
righteousness. He took our death. He gave us
his life. We know he did that for us. Look
with me at first Peter chapter one. First Peter 1 verse 18 says, For as much as you know that
you were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold from
your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers,
but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without
blemish and without spot. who verily was foreordained before
the foundation of the world to do this for his people, but was
manifest in these last times for you, who by him do believe
in God that raised him up from the dead and gave him glory,
that your faith and hope might be in God." He said, you know
what you were redeemed with. I know what I was redeemed with,
that decision I made. I decided to get saved. You know what you were redeemed
with. You know what price was given. You know how effectual
that payment was. You know the success of Christ's
sacrifice. You know the debt to God is finished. You know that you're totally
redeemed. You know that you're complete
in Him. And He said, you know what that
means for you. You know what it means for you. Look with me
at 1 John chapter 3. A few pages over to 1 John chapter
3. 1 John 3 verse 2 says, Beloved,
now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we
shall be, but we know that when he shall appear, we know that
when he shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see
him as he is. We know, thank God, we know that. We know that. Verse five, you
know that he was manifested to take away our sins and in him
is no sin. We know that in him as he is,
so are we. Second Corinthians five verse
one says, we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle
were dissolved, we have a building of God and house not made with
hands eternal in the heavens. We know that he's prepared a
place for us. And we know that we'll be with
Him and He'll be with us for all of eternity. Look at 1 John
5 verse 20. 1 John 5 verse 20, it says, And
we know that the Son of God is come and hath given us an understanding
that we may know Him that is true. And we are in him that
is true, even in his son, Jesus Christ. This is the true God
and everlasting life. We know that Jesus Christ is
the true God and he is eternal life. We know it. And thank God
we do. Thank God we do. Thank God he
has revealed to us these things from his word. And thank God
he's given us faith to believe it. And thank God for this right
here. I'm going to close with this, okay? After all that is
being said, I'm going to close with this. Go to Romans 8. Romans 8 verse 28 says, and we
know. that all things work together
for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according
to His purpose. We forget that all the time.
You know, our Lord, He kept telling them, you know, I'm going to
go to the cross. I'm going to die. And it's like they knew
it, but they just couldn't get it. They just couldn't grasp
it. Well, that's how that is for us. We know that, but we
forget it all the time. Soon as something comes that
doesn't line up with our own providence and predestination
concerning ourselves, we're just torn all to pieces over it, aren't
we? But thank God we know, we do know, and we believe, and
we're reminded every time we open this word, that every single
thing that happens is under the sovereign hand of our God. for
the good of all of his people, for his glory, for the furtherance
of the gospel, the calling out of his sheep. It's all good to
them that are called according to his purpose. Thank God. I
pray the Lord will confirm all of these things to us. You're
dismissed.
