The sermon titled "Things That God's People Know" by Gabe Stalnaker addresses the assurance and knowledge that believers possess regarding their faith and relationship with God. Stalnaker emphasizes that true believers, represented as "God's Jews," know who they worship, who they believe, and the encompassing grace that comes from understanding Jesus Christ as their personal Redeemer. Key Scripture from John 4:22 highlights the distinction between false worship and true worship, while the Pastor draws on additional references like Job 19:25, Psalm 135:5, and Psalm 56:9 to reinforce the claims that God is alive, sovereign, and faithful to His people. The practical significance lies in the comfort that believers can derive from their confidence in God's promises, which ultimately cultivates a deeper relationship with Him and knowledge of His character.

Turn with me back to John chapter
4. John chapter 4. I very much enjoyed studying
for this message. I pray the Lord will make it
as enjoyable coming out as it came in. I enjoyed the confidence
of the word in this. I enjoyed the clarity of the
word in this. I'm going to give you the title
and then I'll, I'll read the text to you. The title is things
that God's people know, things that God's people know. And the text is John four verse
22. Our Lord said to this woman at
the well, you worship, you know not what. We know what we worship
for salvation is of the Jews. We know what we worship for salvation
is of the Jews. Now he is not a Jew, which is
one outwardly, He's a Jew which is one inwardly. Circumcision
is of the heart. It's the operation of God on
all of His people, whether they are Jew, Gentile, male, female,
barbarian, Scythian, bond, free. God's chosen people and called
people are His Jews. And when it comes to God's people,
we know what we worship. We know what we worship. Spurgeon
told the story of meeting a man and he asked the man, what do
you believe? And the man said, I believe what
my pastor believes. And Spurgeon said, well, what
does your pastor believe? And the man said, well, he believes
what I believe. And Spurgeon said, well, what
do you and your pastor believe? Man said, same thing. We believe
the exact same thing. It's sad to say, but most people
in false religion have no idea what they believe. They have
no idea what they believe. But when it comes to God's people,
we know what we believe and it's because We know who we believe. That's the reason. Paul said,
I know whom I have believed. He said, I believe a person.
I believe a person. And because of the Lord's goodness
to this woman at the well, she ended up knowing who she believed.
Look at verse 23. Our Lord said, But the hour cometh and now is
when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit
and in truth for the Father seeketh such to worship Him." God is
a spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit
and in truth. He mentioned the Father and He
mentioned the Spirit. Verse 25, the woman saith unto
him, I know that Messiah cometh, which is called Christ. She mentioned Christ, the Son,
the Father, the Son, the Spirit. They're all mentioned right here.
All three of them are worshiped in the person of the Messiah,
Jesus Christ. Verse 25 says, the woman saith
unto him, I know that Messiah cometh, which is called Christ.
When He is come, He will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto
her, I that speak unto thee, am. That word he is in italics. And that's what our Lord says.
When He says to a soul, I am He, what He's saying is I am,
I am. Verse 27, and upon this came
His disciples and marveled that He talked with the woman. Yet
no man said, what seekest thou or why talkest thou with her?
The woman then left her waterpot and went her way into the city
and saith to the men, come see a man which told me all things
that ever I did. Is not this the Christ? Then
they went out of the city and came unto him. Verse 39 right here says, and
many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the
saying of the woman which testified, he told me all that ever I did. He knows everything about me.
He has it exactly right. And do we not find that to be
so in this word? This word exposes us and yep,
it's exactly right. Verse 40, so when the Samaritans
were coming to him, they besought him that he would tarry with
them and he abode there two days. And many more believed because
of his own word and said unto the woman, now we believe not
because of thy saying, For we have heard him ourselves and
know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.
You told us and we came to and we believed, but now we believe
not just because of your saying, we've heard him ourselves. And
we believe because of what we have heard ourselves with our
own ear and our own heart. They all ended up saying, we
know whom we believe. And therefore we know what we
believe. I love how Hebrews 11 says, these
all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having
seen them afar off and were persuaded of them and embraced them and
confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. All
of God's people die persuaded of God's promises. All of God's
people die. persuaded of God's promises.
They embrace God's word because God is the one who said it. And
because they know whom they believe God's people know what they believe. And that's what we're going to
look at for a minute here. Things that we know. things that we
know we believe, things that we know we worship concerning
who we worship, what we worship concerning who we worship. I
did a word search. You know, you can get, get a
concordance app and you can search words. And I, I did a word word
search on the phrase. I know, I know. I have four or five places for
us to turn to that all say I know. And what I want to point out
about each one of them is they're all concerning whom we know. These are some what's. And every
one of them concern the Lord Jesus Christ because of whom
we know. We know what we know. Because
of whom we believe, we know what we believe. Because of whom we
worship, we know what we worship. All of God's people will be able
to say in their heart, I know that. The Spirit convinces. It
absolutely convinces. I know that. I'm convinced. That's
what I worship. That's what I believe. All right,
the first one is in Job 19. Go with me over there to Job
chapter 19. Verse 23, the heading at the top of my page
says, this is Job's great misery. This is Job crying out from the
depths of his misery. Verse 23, he said, oh, that my
words were now written. Oh, that they were printed in
a book. that they were graven with an
iron pen and led in the rock forever. For I know that my Redeemer
liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth. And though after my skin worms
destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God. WHOM I SHALL SEE FOR MYSELF,
AND MINE EYES SHALL BEHOLD, AND NOT ANOTHER." And if you have
a center margin in your Bible, I have a little number five,
and this is what the end of this verse translates to. My reins
within me are consumed with earnest desire for that day. Out of the depths of his sorrow
and his pain and his trouble he said, this is my comfort and
this is my hope. I know that my Redeemer liveth. I know that my Redeemer liveth. I know that Christ Jesus my Lord
is the true and living God. Living God. I hear people on
TV just people in the spotlight, not necessarily religious people,
just people. I hear people speak of our Lord
as a man who was. I hear that a lot. They speak of him as a man who
was, you know, like Gandhi or any other humanitarian. They
speak of him as though he had his day and his day is over.
He's gone and he's dead now. Well, he did die. He did die,
but He arose and is now alive forevermore. Now just stop the
press, okay? Everybody stop. Really? Most of us in here are grown
adults. Do we really believe that a man died and arose from the dead 2,000
years ago and is still alive to this very
day. Do we really believe that? All of God's people will say,
yes, I do. Yes, I do. I know that. Not only do I believe that, I
know that. How do you know? How do you know? The song says,
you ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart. He's
inside me, I know. In the pages of His word, He
walks with me and He talks with me and He tells me I'm His own. The Spirit of God causes every
child of God to know that Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, ever lives
to make intercession for us. He's alive. I know. We know that our Redeemer
liveth. He has revealed Himself to us
and in us. And we know. We just know. Turn to Psalm 135. Psalm 135. Here's the next thing
we know. Verse five. It says, for I know that the
Lord is great and that our Lord is above all gods. All of the little G gods of men. There are so many of them out
there. Mohammed Buddha, you know, there are people who worship
Mohammed and and he is a little G God who is not above anything. He's not even alive. He's not
even living. But all of these little G gods
that are out there of all of them, Jesus Christ is greater
than all of them. And it's because he is above
all of them. He is the greatest. He is the
highest. He's above all of them. These
little G gods are actually no gods at all because there is
no God beside Jesus Christ. People always talk about the
gods, you know, well, the gods and they think, well, there's
all these, you know, you've got the sun God and this God and that God and
your God and my God. There is only one God. There's
only one God. There is no God beside Jesus
Christ. How do you know that? How do
you know that? It's because all those other
little g-gods are the creation of man. Jesus Christ is the creator of
man. All those other little g-gods
are the creation of man. And Jesus Christ is the Creator
of man. All those other little G-gods
have a beginning and an end. Jesus Christ is the beginning
and the end. He doesn't have a beginning and
He doesn't have an end. He just is the Alpha and the
Omega. I love how He said that in Revelation.
We try to get our minds around how far do you have to go back
into never-ending just blackness to get to the beginning. He said,
I am the beginning. You're looking at the beginning
right now. And I am the end. How long will
eternity last? How long will it last? You see,
Jesus Christ, you're looking at it. In Him, you are. He is. He just is the Alpha and
the Omega. Therefore, He is the King of
kings and the Lord of lords. No one can question His sovereign
power or His authority over anything. He is the God that reigns and
of His kingdom and of His throne there shall be no end. That's
how we know. We just know. Based on that shall,
based on that shall, there shall be no end. How do you know? God said so. There shall be no
end. That's how we know. Look with
me at Psalm 119. Psalm 119 verse 75 says, I know, oh Lord, that thy judgments
are right and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me. Because of
who Jesus Christ is, because of His holiness, because of His
justice, because of His righteousness, we know that everything He does
is right. Everything He does. Because He
is the high and holy God, we know that everything is in His
hands. All things are in His hands. Everything that happens,
happens according to His will. Everything that happens, everything
that takes place is the direct result of His purpose in all
things, in His permission in all things. He is in control
of whatever it is and whatever He does is right. How do you know? How do you know
that? How do you know that that's so?
It's because there is no sin in Him. There is no error in
Him. There is no wrong in Him. There is no mistake in Him. The judge of the earth can only
do what's right. Therefore, we know. We know. that all things work together
for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according
to his purpose. If we ever learn something about
God's purpose, we'll learn something about God. We'll learn something
about the gospel. Everything he does is right.
We know that. We are, you know, daily, just
momently, we're just constantly faced with bad news. And we have to be reminded all
the time and we know it. We forget it and we're reminded
of it. But every time we're reminded
of it, we know it. Everything he does is right.
Every single thing he does is right. Turn to Psalm 56. Psalm 56 verse 9, he said, When I cry unto thee, then shall
mine enemies turn back. This I know, for God is for me. He said, This I know, God is
for me. My enemies will be turned back
because God is for me. God is not for everybody. Some people in this world, God
is for them. Some people in this world, God
is not for them. God has an elect people. He has
an elect people. We're either going to fall into
the category of the elect or the non-elect. All men and women
are either going to fall into the category of those who God
is for and those who God is not for, or those who God is not
for. It's going to be one of the two.
Let me tell you what God's people know. God's people know that
God is for them. Really? How do you know? Do you
believe? Let me just ask everybody here.
Do you believe? Again, stop the press. Do you
believe God has an elect people? He chose to have mercy on some
and some he left alone. What makes us think we're part
of the elect? What makes us believe we're one of the ones he's for?
Like how do we know we're one of the Chosen people of God. How do we know? How do we know? God's people know that God is
for them beyond any shadow of a doubt. All of them can say,
I know that God is for me. How do you know? It's because of this right here. Jesus
Christ said He came into this world to save sinners. And all of God's people know
beyond any shadow of a doubt that's what we are. A sinner
is a sacred thing. The Holy Ghost has made him so.
It takes God's Holy Spirit to truly reveal to a man or a woman,
I am a miserable, wretched sinner. I am, when you think of, you
know, the worst of the worst, I'm in that category. He said
he came to save, he said he did not come for righteous people,
he came for sinners. And all of God's people know
beyond any shadow of a doubt, that's what they are. If Christ
is for sinners, if Christ came to save sinners, I know he came
for me. Because that's all that I am,
a sinner in need of mercy. I am a sinner who needs to be
saved by grace. I love the story. It's been a
while since I've reminded you of it, but Walter and Betty Groover,
for a time, took in a little Spanish girl who was among a
family, a large family of children, and her mother couldn't afford
to feed all the kids. And this little girl came knocking
and begging for food. And Betty fed her, and she came
back the next day and came back the next day, and Betty finally
went searching, you know, for her mother and found her and
saw the situation and said, would you mind if she just stays with
us? I'll feed her and take care of her. And her mother said,
that's fine. Thank you. So for a long period of time, this girl
was a member of the Groover family. And you know the story. Walter and Betty had four kids
and they were all living together and playing together and they'd
do something wrong together and then Walter would get mad or
Betty would get upset and their four biological children would
go back to the back and they'd get disciplined and not this
little girl, Chela. And this happened over and over
and the four kids started resenting the fact she never gets in trouble.
Doesn't matter what she does. She never gets in trouble. It's
always us. And one day, she decided that
she would pitch a fit in the floor. And Walter came in, and
she was just kicking and screaming. And he said, what are you doing?
She just kept kicking and screaming and hollering. He said, you better
stop that. She kept kicking and screaming and hollering. He said,
if you don't stop that, I'm going to spank you. So she gave it
all she had. And he said, let's go to the
back. And after he spanked her. He came out and told Betty that
she crawled up in his lap and put her arms around him and whispered
in his ear, now I know you love me. I know you love me. I know I belong to you. In God's
people through this word we know we belong to our God. We know
we've sinned against him. We hear the chastisement through
the word. Whom the Lord loves he chastens
and we see that he chastened us in Christ And we know He loves us. We know
He's for us. This is what God's people know.
We know that our Redeemer lives. We know that He is great. He
is far above all gods. We know that every judgment that
He makes is right. And we know that He's for us.
Because He said He was for sinners, and that's what we are. Last
one, go with me to John 9. John chapter 9. The heading at the top of my
page says, A man that was born blind receiveth his sight. The Lord Jesus Christ is the
one who gave him his sight. And after that work was finished,
this is all the man could say. Look with me at verse 25. He answered and said, whether
he be a sinner or no, I know not. One thing I know, that whereas
I was blind, Now I see. This is all I know. I was blind
and now I see. He said God brought a complete
change in me. What he was saying was I didn't
have anything in me for him to work with. I was blind. was blind. He created something
out of nothing. I renounced my past. I acknowledged
my insufficiency, my inability. I know I was blind and now I
see. Now I see Christ. Now I see His
Word. Now I see His sovereignty. Now
I see His salvation. I see Him in all of His glory. Amazing grace, how sweet the
sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now
am found. I was blind, but now I see. I know it was all His doing.
I know it was all according to His will. I know it was all to
the praise of His glory. I know that. I know that. Because of who we know, God's
people know what we know, what we believe, what we worship. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.
