Go with me if you would now to
Isaiah chapter 9. Isaiah chapter 9. We read this verse this morning. We've read it a few times recently. Isaiah nine verse six says for unto us, a child is born
unto us. A son is given and the government
shall be upon his shoulder and his name shall be called wonderful
counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting father, the Prince
of peace. in thinking on these things and
studying the things that we looked at in the message this morning. This is a continuation of some
of the thoughts that brought about the message this morning. But while I was studying these
things, an amazing thought came to my heart and my mind, truly. I was able to, with you know,
a small limited way in my flesh, I was able to get lost in the
wonder of Jesus Christ. His name is wonderful. All of
these things that the scripture describes about him, um, You know, our flesh is so pitiful,
it's so low, it's so fickle, but every now and then the Lord
allows us to truly enter in to the things of the Lord Jesus
Christ. And it's worthy of amazement. He is worthy of amazement. And wonder just who he is and
what he did When the Lord reveals that to a person, what a blessing
it is. Men and women do not know who
he, they know who he is, but they don't know who he is. And
they can't know until God blesses them with the gift of revealing
the wonder of Jesus Christ to them until a person has their
eyes open to say, they wonder. What are y'all wondering about?
Why are you so amazed by him? But once God reveals the wonder
and the amazement of this man, well, it's glorious. You are taken with this man.
Everything concerning life and concerning eternity is all about
this man and just entering into who he. is and what he did and
who he was and who he made himself to be. It really is wonderful. It really is wonderful. The more
that the Lord allows us to see of that, the more we'll see of
what the scripture calls his glory. It really is his glory. The announcement that we looked
at this morning was glory to God in the highest. peace on
earth. Those angels were talking about
the same person in his height and in his depth, the same person,
the span, just considering the span of who he is, the infinity
in all directions of who he is. Whatever way we're looking at
him, it's just Can't be fathomed. It really cannot be fathomed.
Paul told the Ephesians, he said in Ephesians chapter three, he
talked about the breadth and the length and the depth and
the height. And he said the love of the Lord
Jesus Christ. He said it passes knowledge.
He told the Philippians. In Philippians chapter four,
he said, his peace passes understanding. peace on earth, the peace of
the Lord Jesus Christ, passes understanding. Who could possibly
fathom Jesus Christ? We will have eternity. We're
gonna get to spend eternity learning of him. And this is what our
silly little fickle minds think. At some point, we will have peeked
out everything you can know about this man. It's not so. It's not so. Eternity will never
be exhausted. Learning and seeing and knowing
of this glorious man. Now look at Isaiah 9 verse 6
again it says, unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given,
The government shall be upon his shoulder and his name shall
be called wonderful counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting
father, the Prince of Peace. Now I know we brought this out
a few times recently, but this is what sparked our message tonight. This is the mighty God who made himself to be a child. That's just full of wonder. That's just full of amazement
that he could do that. And was that and became that
the mighty God made himself to be a child. Now I say this with
fear and trembling and reverence, but the creator made himself to be created. The Lord Jesus Christ was not
created. He was not created before the
foundation of the world and He was not created in the womb of
a virgin. He is. He said, I am, I always have
been, I always will be. In time He came. But if we're
gonna understand Him with any concept of the truth of who He
is, we need to understand that the Creator is the one who made
himself to be created in the womb of virgin. That's who came
forth. That's who was created of the
Holy ghost. It was the creator of the world. The God of man became a man. Verse six says he was the everlasting
father and the son. He was the father
and the son, God, child, father, son. Exodus 15 verse three says
the Lord is a man of war and he is. The Lord is a man of war, but
right here it says He is the Prince of Peace. He is truly full of wonder. I mean, from one end to the other. So to summarize everything that
I'm saying here, everything that I'm going to show you tonight,
it comes down to this. If we could just summarize the
whole thing, here it is. Christ is all. Christ is all. I don't ever get tired of saying
that. And I don't ever get tired of hearing that. I don't ever
get tired of reading that. Christ is all. He is all. And there's nothing more comforting
than realizing Christ is all. Nothing. If the spirit of God
ever reveals this to us truly, then we're gonna have a true
understanding, even though it's in our limited minds and understanding,
it's gonna be a true right understanding of the scripture. Christ is all
of it. Christ is all of it. If God lets
us see this, we'll see the point of the Bible. Christ is all. He's all. Start to finish. First to last, due to done, Christ
is all. That's why we just read Revelation
22 for our scripture reading. He said, I am alpha and omega. I am the beginning and the end. I'm the first and the last. I
am the root of David and the offspring of David. Which one
is he? Both. How can that be? I don't know, but he said he
was. So he is. He said, I'm the bright and morning
star. I'm the bright high noon son
of judgment that beats down. And I am that beautiful morning
sunrise that comes with healing in his way. I'm all of it. Christ
is all. Christ is all. All right, now
let's take a minute here and consider some of the Lord's occupations. I started writing down things
that the Lord said He was, and I did not end up listing all
of them here in my notes, and there are so many that I never
thought of. but just to go through a few of them here. All right,
these are some of the occupations that He holds and that He held
for us. Who He is in Himself, what He
did for us. The only way I know to say it
is, we're gonna look at some of His occupations. It's the
only way I know to word it. From height to depth, breadth
to width, the unfathomable scope of the Lord Jesus Christ, all
right? Turn with me to Psalm 23. Psalm 23, verse one. It says the Lord is my shepherd. The Lord is my shepherd. He is the shepherd. He is our shepherd. That's who
he is. Isaiah 40 says he will feed his
flock like a shepherd. John 10 says, he is the good
shepherd. I just, I just love the thought
of it. I just love the feeling of knowing
that I have a shepherd. Hebrews 13 says he is the great
shepherd. First Peter five says he is the
chief shepherd. He is the shepherd. But do you
know what John one verse 29 says? Behold the Lamb. Isaiah 53 says, He was led as
a sheep. He's the shepherd, but He's also
the sheep. He is the shepherd, but He made
Himself to be the sheep. He took the position of the sheep. He truly did. Look at Psalm 24,
verse 7. It says, lift up your heads,
O ye gates, and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors, and the
King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The
Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your
heads, O ye gates, even lift them up, ye everlasting doors,
and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts. He is the
King of glory. Who is he? Who is Jesus Christ? He's the King of glory. He's
the King of glory. In Matthew 2, verse 2, the shepherd
said, where is he that is born King? In John 19, verse 14, Pilate
said to all the people, behold your King. Revelation 19 says, he is the
King of Kings. But do you know what Philippians
2, verse 7 says? It says he made himself to be
a servant. God, the father said to him in
Hebrews chapter one, thy throne is forever. But the father said
in Isaiah 42, behold, my servant, he's the King, but he's also
the servant. He's the giver of the command. But he's also the one who humbled
himself and became obedient to the command. He's the one who
performed the command. It's amazing. It's amazing. Look at Psalm 18 with me. Verse two, Psalm 18, verse two
says, the Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer. He is the deliverer. He's the safety. In Jeremiah 39, verse 18, he
said, I will surely deliver thee. I'll surely deliver you. to the
point that he said in Isaiah 43, there is none that can deliver
out of my hand. You'll be kept, you'll be safe.
But do you know what Matthew 27 verse 26 says? It says, then
Pilate released Barabbas unto them. And when he had scourged
Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. He is the deliverer
from death and condemnation. And he is the delivered to death
and condemnation for his people. He was the deliverer and he was
the delivered. He delivered us from it by being
himself delivered to it. He's our shepherd. He's our shepherd. because he made himself to be
the lamb for us, made himself to be God's sheep for us. He's
our king because he made himself to be the servant. He's our deliverer
because he made himself to be delivered to the condemnation
for us. Turn with me over to Psalm 103. Psalm 103 verse 1 says, Bless
the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His
holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and
forget not all His benefits, who forgiveth all thine iniquities,
who healeth all thy diseases. Who healeth all thy diseases. He is the physician. He is the physician, the great
physician. In Exodus 15, he said, I am the
Lord that healeth thee. He's the physician. He's our
physician. But do you know what Matthew
eight verse 17 says? It says, he took our infirmities
and bear our sicknesses. He is the physician, but he also
became the bearer of the sickness. You picture a doctor and a sick
person. He's the physician, but he made
himself to be the bearer of the sickness. That bug is standing
on the word. I've been watching this bug,
right? This is the Lord's bug. That's what the Lord does for
us, delivered. All right? Does that make sense? He's the physician. He's the
shepherd. He's the sheep. He's the deliverer. He's the
delivered. He's the king. He's the servant. He's the healer,
the physician. He's the bearer of the sickness.
That's how He healed us. The physician bore the sickness. No physician's ever done that. Look at Psalm 27. He's one of
us. He can stay. Psalm 27, I'm sorry,
127, Psalm 127. Psalm 127 verse 1 says, except the Lord build the house,
they labor in vain that build it. Except the Lord build the
house, they labor in vain that build it. We all know that while
our Lord was here, he took the occupation of being a carpenter.
All right? He's a physician. He's a shepherd. He's a king. He was a carpenter. He was a builder. That's what
He did. He was a builder. You know what Revelation 21 verse
22 says? He's also the building. He's
the builder, but He's the building. It says, there's no physical
temple in heaven. The Lord God Almighty and the
Lamb are the temple of it. Ephesians 2 says, Jesus Christ
Himself is the chief cornerstone in whom all the building fitly
framed together groweth unto a holy temple in the Lord. Yes,
He lives in us. We heard this morning, know ye
not you're the temple of the living God? Yes, He lives in
us, but only because we live in Him. Only because He's the
builder. He's the builder. Go with me to Luke 4, just a
few more, I'll be done. Luke 4. Matthew 4 says, from that time
Jesus began to preach. All right, if you look here at
Luke 4. Verse 16 says he came to Nazareth
where he had been brought up. And as his custom was, he went
into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto
him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when he had opened the book,
he found the place where it was written. The spirit of the Lord
is upon me. because he hath anointed me to
preach the gospel to the poor. He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted,
to preach deliverance to the captives and recovering of sight
to the blind, to set at Liberty them that are bruised. Verse
19 says to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. He was a preacher. He was the
preacher. but he was preaching himself. Not only is he the preacher,
he's the message. I just love the thought of the
glory and the compassion and the love of him reading his own
word. I love that thought of him grabbing Isaiah 61 and saying,
the spirit of the Lord God is upon because the Lord hath anointed
me to preach the gospel to the poor. He sent me to heal the
brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, the recovering
of sight to the blind and to set at liberty them that are
bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Declaring his own gospel, concerning
what he himself would do for sinners who are in such great
need. We need him so desperately. The
gospel message is all about who he is and what he's done. And
not only is Christ truly the preacher, he's the message. He
is the message. So he's the shepherd. He's the
sheep. He's the king. He's the servant. He's the deliverer. He's the
one who was delivered. He's the physician. He's the
bearer of the sickness. He's the carpenter. He's the
building. He's the preacher. He's the message. Turn with me to Romans 14. Romans 14 verse 10 says, But
why dost thou judge thy brother? Or why dost thou set it not thy
brother? For we shall all stand before
the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written, As I live,
saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall
confess to God. So then every one of us shall
give account of himself to God, the Christ, the judgment seat
of Christ. John five says all judgment has
been given into the hands of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are
all going to stand before the judgment seat of Christ. He's
the judge. He is the judge. But do you know
what 1 John 2, verse 1 says? It says, if any man sin, we have
an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He
is the propitiation for our sins. 1 Timothy 2 says, there is one
God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. That means he is the judge of
the sinner and he is the justifier of the
sinner. He's both. He's both. One more. All right, last one.
Go to Hebrews 4. Hebrews 4 verse 14, it says,
seeing then that we have a great high priest that is passed into
the heavens, Jesus, the son of God, let us hold fast our profession
for we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with
the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted
like as we are yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly
unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find
grace to help in time of need. He is our high priest. Preacher, king, priest. How many occupations has he held
for us? He is our high priest. He is
the priest that made the blood offering for sin to God on our
behalf. He's the priest that offered
the blood. But do you know what Hebrews chapter nine says? It
says, not only is he the priest who made the offering, he is
the offering. He went into God with His own
blood. He didn't just offer blood, He offered His own blood. He offered the blood of the sacrifice,
and He is the sacrifice. And by His one offering for sin,
He obtained eternal redemption for us. Can we not say that Christ
is all? It is so relieving to me that
When the scripture, when we read this word and we see our insufficiency
at all times, it is so relieving to see, turn to Christ. Look to Christ. Just look to
the Lamb of God. Christ is all. He's all of it. He is all of it. He is everything
that He needs to be for Himself as God, Judge, King, Lawgiver. He's everything that He needs
to be for Himself to satisfy Himself. And He's everything
that He needs to be for us to satisfy God for us, concerning
us. Oh, the wonder, really the wonder
of the Lord Jesus Christ. truly, truly full of wonder. Our Lord, our God, our Savior,
our all, call His name wonderful. That's who He is. That's what
He is. All right, Brother Dwight, you come.
