The sermon "Behold The Blood Of The Covenant," preached by John Chapman, focuses on the theological significance of the covenant presented in Exodus 24 and its fulfillment in the New Covenant through Jesus Christ. Chapman emphasizes that God's relationship with His people is fundamentally covenantal, supported by the sacrificial blood that ratifies such commitments. He references Exodus 24:8 to illustrate the seriousness and binding nature of God's covenant, which operates through the concept of blood sacrifice—a theme confirmed by the New Testament, particularly in Hebrews 9, where Christ is portrayed as the ultimate Mediator of a superior covenant. The practical significance of this sermon lies in the encouragement for believers to recognize their need for a Mediator, the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice, and the direct access that believers now have to God through faith in Jesus.

What does the Bible say about the covenant of grace?

The covenant of grace is God's binding promise to His people, established by the blood of Christ.

In Exodus 24, God establishes a covenant with His people that is foundational to understanding His relationship with humanity. This covenant of grace emphasizes that God's actions are always grounded in His promises. Through blood and sacrifice, such as in the covenant made with Moses, God depicts the vital role of Jesus Christ as the ultimate mediator. Hebrews 9 and 10 further elaborate on how this covenant is realized in Christ, who fulfills the requirements the law demanded. He enters the holy place and secures eternal redemption for His people, underscoring that God's dealings are based on His unchanging grace.

Exodus 24, Hebrews 9:12, Hebrews 10:14

How do we know Jesus is our mediator?

Jesus is our mediator as He fulfills the role established in the Old Testament, offering Himself as the perfect sacrifice.

The New Testament affirms that Jesus serves as the mediator between God and humanity, a role prefigured by Moses and the priests in the Old Testament. Hebrews 9:15 states that Jesus is the mediator of the New Covenant, accomplished through His sacrificial death and resurrection. Unlike the repeated sacrifices of the Old Covenant, His singular offering is sufficient to atone for the sins of His people, granting them grace and direct access to God. This underscores the importance of His role; He stands as the perfect mediator, representing believers before the Father, which was established from eternity.

Hebrews 9:15, 1 Timothy 2:5

Why is the blood of Christ significant in the covenant?

The blood of Christ is significant as it ratifies the New Covenant, providing permanent atonement for sin.

The significance of Christ's blood in the context of the covenant cannot be overstated. In Exodus 24, the blood is sprinkled on the people and the altar as part of covenant rituals. This foreshadows the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus would make, as described in Hebrews 9. His blood, described as the blood of God, offers eternal redemption once and for all, contrasting with the annual sacrifices of the Old Covenant which could not permanently remove sins. The application of His blood symbolizes not only a cleansing from past sins but also an assurance of acceptance into God's presence, making the New Covenant a profound expression of God's grace.

Exodus 24, Hebrews 9:12, Acts 20:28

What does the term 'covenant of works' mean?

The covenant of works refers to the agreement God made with humanity based on perfect obedience.

The covenant of works is a term used to describe the initial relationship established between God and humanity, centered on the requirement of perfect obedience to His divine law. Foundationally in the Old Testament, it illustrates that no one can achieve the standard God demands; as it is written, 'No man can keep the law perfectly.' This covenant reveals humanity's inability to fulfill God's requirements. It serves as a contrasting backdrop to the New Covenant of grace, wherein Christ fulfills the law on behalf of those who believe. The failure of the covenant of works highlights the necessity of grace through Christ's redemptive work.

Romans 3:20, Exodus 24, Genesis 2

Why is the covenant essential for understanding God's relationship with humanity?

The covenant encapsulates God's commitment to His people and forms the basis of His grace and mercy.

Understanding the covenant is crucial for comprehending how God relates to humanity throughout Scripture. The covenants reveal God's unchanging promise to His people, framing His commitment not just as transactional but deeply relational. From the covenant with Noah and Abraham to the fulfillment in Christ, these agreements show His grace despite humanity's failures. The covenant of grace, culminating in Jesus' sacrifice, assures believers of their salvation and direct access to God. It fundamentally illustrates how God, in mercy, seeks to reconcile a wayward humanity to Himself, fostering a deeper appreciation for His character and redemptive plan.

Exodus chapter 24. The title of this message, Behold the Blood of the Covenant, I took the title from verse 8. We see in this chapter that God binds Himself to His people by covenant, by blood, and by sacrifice. And that's how God has bound Himself to us, His Church, from all ages, all believers in all ages, God has bound Himself to them by a covenant. Our God is a covenant God.

WE NEED TO MAKE MUCH OF THE COVENANT, WE NEED TO LEARN ABOUT IT, BECAUSE EVERYTHING GOD DOES AND HIS DEALINGS WITH US IS BY WAY OF HIS COVENANT, HIS COVENANT OF GRACE, AND HERE WE SEE THAT GOD MAKES A COVENANT WITH THEM. NOW THIS IS A COVENANT OF WORKS, AND IT'S INTERESTING, AND IT'S INTERESTING BECAUSE WE KNOW, WE KNOW THAT No man, no son of Adam can give the obedience that God requires.

When Moses read all the words and the judgments of the book, what did they say? We'll do it, we'll do it. They did not understand, and our Lord made this very clear in the Gospels, they did not understand that the law is spiritual. and we are carnal, sold under sin. He told those Pharisees, He said, You say adultery is wrong. I m paraphrasing. The Scripture says it s wrong. He said, But to look on a woman to lust after her is adultery. See, He took the outward and turned it inward because God s Law was spiritual.

You know, to actually keep God's Law, the very first thing you have to do is absolutely LOVE IT! LOVE IT! Written in the Psalms, OH HOW I LOVE THY LAW! I LOVE IT! There's nothing in the Word of God, there's nothing about the Law of God, the Word of God. Sometimes it means the Ten Commandments, sometimes it means the whole Word of God. There's nothing about it I don't love and you don't love, you who believe the Gospel, you love it. And we love Christ who obeyed it in our place.

We know, we've been taught of God that we can't do all that He has said. not in the manner in which He says to do it PERFECTLY. It must be PERFECT, He said, to be accepted. So here we see that God gives a covenant. In this chapter we have the covenant, we have the altar, we have the 12 pillars which represent Israel, the sacrifice, the blood, and all these are necessary to worship. All these are necessary in order to approach God.

There s got to be a high priest. Now, I know the priesthood is not established yet at this point. That s why the young men were told to go out and get the bullocks and the sacrifices because the priesthood is going to be set up here shortly. But God has always established this right from the beginning. When Adam and Eve fell, what did God do? He slew an animal, blood was shed, and He took the skins of those animals and covered their nakedness. He covered their nakedness. The righteousness of Jesus Christ covers our nakedness. His righteousness does that, not our righteousness. We don't have any, do we? We have no righteousness of our own. He said our righteousness are nothing but filthy rags. But the righteousness of Jesus Christ is righteous. There's no spot or blemish in it, not any.

Now what I'm going to do this morning, I'm going to deal with the covenant spoken of in this chapter and then we are going to go to Hebrews 9 and I'm going to deal with that NEW covenant, that SUPERIOR covenant, that NEW covenant which is called the SECOND covenant which is really NOT second because it was made in ETERNITY before the world began. But this one was first revealed, this covenant of works in the Old Testament. And this NEW Covenant, it's revealed AFTER that, but it's really, it's called the Everlasting Covenant, isn't it? It's the Everlasting Covenant. God made it back in Eternity. We can't even search it out. Who can search out Eternity? Who can search out God who has no beginning of the days nor end of life? WHO BY SEARCHING CAN FIND OUT GOD? Just when someone may think they know enough, they know nothing. They know nothing.

If you ll notice here when they saw God, you notice in verse 10 it says, And they saw the God of Israel, and there was under His feet, as it were, a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were, the body of heaven in clearness. They didn't see an image. They didn't see an image. They just saw just clearness. Just like looking out into the blue, blue sky. They didn't see an image.

And it's interesting here, it says, And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand, because he had said previously, No man shall see my face and live. But here God gave a revelation of Himself because these men are going to be a witness to Israel that what Moses brought to them and what Moses read to them came from God. God has never left Himself without a witness and they're going to be witnesses to this. And it says they did eat and drink. They didn't die when God made Himself known to them.

and you and I can you and I can now look we can look the Lord in the face and not die we can see the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ and not die that's the one place we can meet God this is important the one place we can meet God and not die is in Jesus Christ His Son ANY PLACE ELSE, GOD, IT SAYS, IS A CONSUMING FIRE.

In verse 17, AND THE SIGHT OF THE GLORY OF THE LORD WAS LIKE DEVOURING FIRE ON THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN IN THE EYES OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL. Our God, it says, is a consuming fire. And you know what? He still is. Did you read the article in the bulletin that I gave, that Henry gave of that burnt ground? Jesus Christ is burnt ground and where the fires burn once it won't burn again, but outside of Christ People are going to meet God who's a consuming fire and they will be consumed That's the truth and we have to tell people that I'm not going to go around telling people, God loves you. God loves you. God wants to save you. Why don't you let Him? You know what I'm going to tell you, rebels? You're about to meet a God who's a consuming fire. You're about to meet a God who will by no means clear the guilty. If you die and meet God in your sins, you're going to meet a God who won't clear the guilty. It's too late. Too late. Henry said, Hell is truth realized too late. It's just too late.

But let me get going here. We see here a divine revelation. God gives this revelation of a covenant and He gives words and judgments. He proclaims to Moses and Moses proclaims them to the people. We see that in verse 3. And this covenant is written in a book. It's SURE! It's WRITTEN! What I have written, I have written. WHAT DID OUR LORD SAY TO SATAN IN THE WILDERNESS THREE TIMES? IT IS WRITTEN. EVERYTHING GOD HAS TO SAY TO US, EVERYTHING IS WRITTEN. IT'S WRITTEN. WE DON'T NEED NO MORE. I DON'T NEED TO HEAR ANYTHING ELSE FROM GOD OTHER THAN WHAT HE'S ALREADY SAID.

As I told you once before, I've worked for a Mormon company. They owned the company I was running. I was plant leader, president of the company. And the man that I dealt with among the Mormons, and they were strong Mormons, he said, You mean to tell me that God doesn't have any more to say than what He's already said? I said, Do you know what he said already? Do you know what he said here? He said, Well, no. I said, Then why does he need to write any more? Why does he need to write any more? You don't even know what he's already said. Everything God has to say is written. It's written. And it being written, listen, no one has an excuse. No one hasn't. Oh, I didn't know about it. You know how many Bibles are sitting on coffee tables and end tables and are never opened? Do you know how many Bibles are never opened after the service is over? Very few Bibles are opened after the service is over.

This Bible should be read every day. I mean, I'm not saying try to read a large amount. I don't read a large amount every day. I don't. You know, I'm in the study every day, but I don't sit and read and read and read. You can't comprehend that. I'm not, it's not a marathon. I'm not running a marathon. I read a little and try to think a lot. Instead of read a lot and not think very much. That's the way to read. Read you a little bit, then ask the Lord to show you the little bit. And then a little bit more, and a little bit more. Here a little, there a little. That's how we learn. That's how we learn. I've learned and I don't learn much if I just keep cramming. It doesn't work. It's not a test. We're trying to learn of and have fellowship with God and it's not going to happen apart from His Word. Not going to happen. We have God's Word to read and obey. Now not obey in the sense that they were talking, but obey the Lord. What did He say? Come to me and I'll give you rest. Obey Him. That's not a suggestion. You know, the Bible doesn't give suggestions. No more than a speed sign out there is a suggestion. Just run it and break it. And the officer pulls you over and you say, Oh, I thought that was a suggestion. He said, Well, I'm going to suggest you pay this. That's what I'm going to do.

No, we search the Word to find the mind and will of God, don't we? We do. You want to talk about counselors. Someone said something to me here some time ago, it's not nobody here, but some time ago about a marriage counselor. This person's a believer. I said, don't do that. Don't go to Egypt for help. Don't go to Egypt for help. Pay attention to the Word of God. Read the Word of God. Christ is the counselor.

Here's the problem, people don't want to do what the counselor is telling them to do, because he's not suggesting anything. You go to a counselor in this world and they'll give you suggestions, things you ought to do, things you ought to do as a husband, things you ought to do as a wife. No, the Lord said this is what you do, and you watch how it straightens up. You watch how it straightens up. And here s the response of the people, and all that the Lord has spoken will we do. They re in verses 3 and 7. Twice they said we ll obey. Well, God IS to be obeyed when He speaks, that s for sure, no doubt about that.

But then we see here that in verses 2 and 8, Moses stands as a mediator of this covenant. You see, God called MOSES And we're gonna see here that Christ is the Mediator. He's the fulfillment of this type. We'll get to that in a minute. But Moses stands here as a Mediator. And God revealed early our need of a Mediator. You can't just run into God's presence. There's got to be There's got to be a mediator. There's got to be a high priest. There's got to be blood. There's got to be a sacrifice. And everyone whom God saves knows that.

When you pray, you pray in what? Christ's name. You come to Him in Christ's name. That's how you come. You come to Him in Christ's name. We don't come to Him in our own name. WE COME TO HIM IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. WE ASK. CHRIST SAID WHATSOEVER YOU ASK IN MY NAME, I'LL DO IT. I'LL DO IT. SO WE HAVE A GREAT NEED, AND GOD REVEALED THIS EARLY, OF A MEDIATOR TO STAND BETWEEN US AND GOD.

You know, here's one of the problems OF THE NATURAL MIND, HERE'S THE PROBLEM OF THE NATURAL MIND. WE THINK, FIRST OF ALL GOD SAID IN THE PSALMS, YOU THINK I'M ALL TOGETHER LIKE YOURSELVES, YOU THINK I'M LIKE YOU. THAT'S OUR FIRST PROBLEM. THAT'S A VERY LOW THOUGHT OF GOD, THAT'S A VERY HIGH OPINION OF OURSELVES, VERY HIGH. BUT WE THINK BECAUSE WE CAN JUST TALK TO ONE ANOTHER, THAT WE CAN DO THE SAME WITH GOD.

Now we can as long as we understand. We can come to the throne of grace at any time. And we can cast our cares upon Him at any time if we understand that we're coming to Him through Christ, in Christ. And through His blood we have a right to be there. We have a right. We're not arrogant about it.

You know when he told them to worship the Lord afar off, that's what he said there in verse 1. He said, and he said, Moses, come up unto the Lord, thou Aaron, Nadab, Bihu, Zebedee of the elders of Israel, and worship ye afar off. Sanctify! I believe this is what he means. Sanctify the Lord God in your heart afar off. Worship doesn't happen when we get here IT OUGHT TO HAPPEN BEFORE WE GET HERE. WE OUGHT TO SANCTIFY THE LORD GOD IN OUR HEARTS AT HOME BEFORE WE EVER LEAVE THE HOUSE. WE REALLY TRULY, OF COURSE, I HAVE THE ADVANTAGE BECAUSE I'M SITTING DOWN AT SIX THIRD IN THE MORNING AND I'M READING THIS, STUDYING THIS, GOING OVER THIS BEFORE I EVER GET HERE. I DO IT RIGHT UP TO THE TIME I GET HERE. I UNDERSTAND THAT. BUT I ALSO UNDERSTAND THIS. WE OUGHT TO TAKE a moment anyway, and think about what we're about to do. What we're about to do.

You know, I've learned this as I've gotten older, in my prayers, I really think this, it's the way I think. I don't know if anybody else can think, I think weird sometimes. I always think, is what I'm about to ask the Lord worthy of using the name of Christ? Are we just name-dropping? Isn't that what people just name-drop? We're not name-dropping. We are coming before God, the God of heaven and earth, God of the universe! And we are laying before Him our hearts, and He says to do that. But we do it with reverence, don't we? We don't do it flippantly. like we go to a doctor, we are going to the God of Heaven and Earth who can take care of my needs, He can take care of all my problems, in fact, He does. Sooner or later, according to His will, He takes care of all my problems.

I have learned this, EVERY DISEASE, EVERY SICKNESS, EVERY AILMENT I HAVE WILL BE HEALED! He is going to heal it! I may have to die first, I may have to die first, but I'll be healed. When He raises me, sin and sorrow and sickness will not follow me. I will be healed of everything sooner or later, sooner or later, and I'm not going to get to what I've got here.

So we need a mediator, and we see also here We need the MEDIATOR, we need to sacrifice the BURN OFFERING and the PEACE OFFERINGS, which the LORD is both of these to us. We see this in verse 5 where they bring the BURN OFFERING and the PEACE OFFERINGS. This was set up early, even from the beginning, as a way to approach God. Then we have the BLOOD OF SPRINKLING. It was sprinkled on the ALTAR and on the PEOPLE. You see, the BLOOD has to be applied. It not only is the blood shed, but the blood is applied. If the blood is never applied, a person is never saved. But I assure you, if it was shed for you, it's going to be applied. He didn't shed it in vain, God. Our Lord didn't shed His blood in vain.

You see, but there's something else here, this blood, this blood that was TO BE SPRINKLED ON THE ALTAR AND THE PEOPLE. THIS BLOOD SHOWS THAT A LIFE WAS TAKEN AND A LIFE SPARED. THEY SPRINKLED THAT BLOOD ON THE PEOPLE, AND EVERY ONE OF THEM IT SHOWS THIS. GOD SPARED YOUR LIFE. GOD SPARED YOU THROUGH THE SUBSTITUTE. God spared you. He has spared many of us through Jesus Christ, our substitute. And His blood has been sprinkled on our hearts by the Holy Spirit. It shows that life was taken and it must be applied and the result is this, the covenant was ratified by the blood. It's in effect now. It's put into effect. Even that covenant of grace, if the blood of Christ is not shed, it will never be put into effect. Never, but it was here, and same so in the New Testament.

But all this going on here in chapter 24 was external purification, that s all it was. It didn t purify the soul, someone said to me years ago they said to me that the the saints in the old testament testament were saved by the blood of those bulls and goats i don't know where this person i don't know what they're reading but they said the blood of the the saints in the new testament are saved by the blood of christ that's how a lost person interprets the bible they twist the scripture to their own destruction BLOOD OF CHRIST HAS SAVED EVERY SINNER THAT WILL EVER ENTER GLORY FROM BEGINNING TO END BY THE BLOOD OF CHRIST.

This is the type for us to learn by. You know, we can learn by these types and we learn. Here's something else we learn, this covenant of works doesn't work. The covenant of works does not work. You can't keep it. And we can't even, there's a lot of things we can't keep. But I tell you what, when it comes to God's law, you either keep it or perish. And this is exactly what Jesus Christ did in our stead. He magnified the law, made it honorable.

Now, let's jump ahead 2,000 years from now, from this point. Let's look at another covenant. Let's look at this everlasting covenant. Turn to Hebrews chapter 9, And let's see if we can get some honey out of this, this morning. Here's what we'll see in Hebrews 9. We see that this new covenant, it's ratified and fulfilled by the Lord Jesus Christ. The covenant of works gives way to the new covenant of grace. Let me just read you Hebrews 10, 9. Then said He, Lo, I come to do Thy will, O God. He takes away the first, He takes away this covenant, this first covenant back here in Exodus that He may establish the second covenant, the covenant of grace.

Now here's what we see. WE SEE THAT JESUS CHRIST IS THAT PERFECT MEDIATOR OF WHICH MOSES WAS A TYPE. HE WAS JUST A TYPE. LOOK IN VERSE 15, AND FOR THIS CAUSE HE THAT IS CHRIST IS THE MEDIATOR OF THE NEW TESTAMENT. by means of death for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance but he's the mediator of that new testament he's the perfect mediator as paul wrote to timothy in first timothy 2 5 he says that that there is one mediator between god and men the man christ jesus HE'S THAT MEDIATOR THAT GOD HAS SET UP FROM ETERNITY. HE GAVE US PICTURES AND TYPES OF THIS BEFORE THE REAL CAME SO THAT WE'D HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING. OUR LORD IS SO GOOD. He's so good. It's like He gave us a bunch of flashcards like you get in elementary. That's why I see the Old Testament. I see the high priesthood, all these sacrifices. For me, I look at it like I see flashcards, like I did when I was in elementary. That's how I learn. He's so gracious to us. And then we begin to learn. He reveals Christ and we see Christ in all the Scriptures, don't we? We see the Lord Jesus Christ in ALL the Word of God.

And then we see this, that the sacrifice of Christ is the PERFECT SACRIFICE. Look in verse 12 of that chapter. HE ENTERED INTO THE HOLY PLACE, HAVING OBTAINED ETERNAL REDEMPTION FOR US. THE OLD SACRIFICES NEVER OBTAINED ETERNAL REDEMPTION. IN FACT, IT NEVER PUT AWAY ONE SIN. THAT'S WHY THEY KEPT COMING YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR. THEY HAD TO KEEP COMING BACK. BECAUSE THERE'S A REMEMBRANCE MADE EVERY YEAR. EVERY YEAR THEY CAME BACK. EVERY YEAR THE PASSOVER. ALL THESE SACRIFICES WERE MADE DAY AFTER DAY AFTER DAY. THERE IS NO MORE SACRIFICE THAT HAS BEEN OFFERED. THE ONE SACRIFICE THAT HAS BEEN OFFERED, THE PERFECT SACRIFICE, AND HIS BLOOD HAS PUT AWAY OUR SINS, AND HIS SACRIFICE AND BLOOD WAS OFFERED ONE TIME.

Look in verse 26. FOR THEN MUST HE OFTEN HAVE SUFFERED SINCE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD, BUT NOW ONCE IN THE END OF THE WORLD HATH HE APPEARED TO PUT AWAY SIN BY THE SACRIFICE OF HIMSELF." One time. Because His sacrifice is perfect. His blood is perfect. It's the blood of God. That's what it says in Acts 20, 28. It's called the blood of God. And it's offered one time. Not many times, one time. And His sacrifice was not presented here on earth, His blood, not presented here on earth. Look at verse 24 of Hebrews 9. Look at verse 24. 24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.

You know when the high priest down, they made the tabernacle and all that's going to be given here as we go along, the priesthood, all the things, furniture, everything. And the priest had this breastplate on him, and it had the 12 tribes of the children of Israel on that breastplate. That's who he represented. When he went into the Holy of Holies, when he went into that place once a year, he represented a people. He went in as a representative. And it says here that He appeared in heaven, but into heaven itself. That's where Jesus Christ went, to heaven itself. Now to appear in the presence of God for US. Who's He writing to? You see here, now listen, I've mentioned this, and I'm going to mention this a lot more, however long God lets me preach.

DON'T TAKE WHAT APPLIES TO GOD'S PEOPLE TO A PEOPLE THAT'S BEING WRITTEN TO, TO THE CHURCH THAT'S BEING WRITTEN TO, AND MAKE A GENERAL APPLICATION TO IT TO EVERYBODY! JESUS CHRIST DID NOT APPEAR IN HEAVEN FOR EVERYONE, HE SAID FOR US! WHO'S HE WRITING TO? THE HEBREWS! He's writing to believers, that's who He's writing to. He's writing to believers. He's now in the presence of God for US, He ENTERS THE TRUE HOLY PLACE where God dwells. And here's the result of our Lord's perfect sacrifice in verse 12, ETERNAL REDEMPTION. Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood He entered Him once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption. Here's another result of his sacrifice in blood, verse 14, How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself at that spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

What are dead works? You ever feel like, you know, before the Lord saved me, and I think everyone else whom the Lord saved has this experience, you feel like you've got to do something, don't you? The place I used to go to before I heard the gospel, they had to witness. They'd go out on every Tuesday, I think it was every Tuesday night, and they'd go knocking on doors witnessing. And that really was like a badge. I can tell you from experience, it made them feel good. And it felt like I just had to do that. If I feel like I've got to do SOMETHING to please God, that's a dead work. Christ pleased God. Christ did that in my place. He's purged my conscience. I don't feel guilty. I don't feel guilty for not doing this and that. He's purged my conscience.

See they felt like, and the Hebrews were having this problem of wanting to go back under the law or at least attach some of it, they felt GUILTY for not doing it! They couldn't just let go because they were RAISED on that! And all of a sudden, the Lord Jesus Christ comes along and THAT'S OVER WITH! It's FULFILLED! But many of them felt GUILTY for not offering up to sacrifice or for not having to do SOME kind of CEREMONY! You know, you look at Catholicism, it's all CEREMONY! I don't feel guilty for not having a ceremony here. I don't feel guilty for not having an altar up here. Jesus Christ is our altar. There ain't no piece of wood in my altar. The Lord Jesus Christ is our altar! When I call people to come to the altar, I'm saying, COME TO CHRIST! That's one and the same, I can say come to Christ or come to the altar, that's coming to Christ, but not an altar up here in the front. I did that, I did that. There's nothing up here. Christ is our altar, we come to Him and that's where we meet God. That's where we meet God. And we're going to see this as we go on through Exodus here. We meet God in Jesus Christ. He's our ALTAR. He's our ALTAR.

So we have our CONSCIENCE CLEANSED from DEAD WORKS. And then we have the WAY into God's PRESENCE OPEN. Now that's over in John 14. I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE. No man comes to the FATHER but by ME. But now look over to Hebrews 10, and I'll see if I can wind this down. We have the reality, the experience of this new covenant. When Moses read that covenant to them, they said, all that the Lord has said we will do, didn't they? We will obey, we will do it. But this covenant is written on the heart. It's written on the heart. Look in verse 16. I get 9 and 10 mixed up here. This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord. I will put my laws into their hearts. I won't write it on a tablet. It will not be written on stone. MY LAWS WILL NOT BE WRITTEN ON STONE. THE LAWS OF THE GOSPEL, THE LAW OF LIBERTY, THE LAW OF LIBERTY HERE, SPEAKING OF. I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR HEARTS, AND IN THEIR MINDS WILL I WRITE THEM, AND THEIR SINS AND INIQUITIES WILL I REMEMBER NO MORE.

I REMEMBER SINS, I DON'T REMEMBER ALL THE SINS THAT GOD PUT AWAY, THAT'S FOR SURE. GOD PUT AWAY A WHOLE LOT MORE SINS THAN I KNOW ABOUT. And nobody in this room loves God with all their heart, soul, mind. Even after God saved you, we still don't. That sin's been put away. That sin's been put away. And there's sins and iniquities, isn't that good news?

I tell you what, if we would get into the Word of God, And really ask the Lord to open these things up to us. It would give real quietness to our soul instead of being in trouble all the time. We'd really know where to go when we are in trouble and how it is to be dealt with.

And here's something else about this New Covenant. It gives us direct access to God. He said tell the people don't come up here. And the elders, there were 70 elders, Aaron and Nadab and Abihu, they had to stay behind. And Moses went up and Joshua, he said Moses and Joshua, and no doubt Joshua went part way and Moses went, Moses went in and got that. For 40 days and 40 nights, God gave him that covenant, his commandments and laws.

But here, listen, We have BOLDNESS and ACCESS into God's presence. And you'd think we'd use that, don't you? Usually God has to bring us down. We have to be weeping and crying over something before we finally go to the throne of grace. Really.

This has been on my mind this morning, and here's what's been on my mind. Why don't I call on the Lord more than I do? I have access to Him. I have access to the one who can take care of all my problems.

Let me see what I was going to read here. Verse 19 in chapter 10. Having therefore, brethren, boldness, now in my margin it says LIBERTY. That's not arrogance, it's LIBERTY to come into the presence of God. HAVING THEREFORE, BRETHREN, BOLDNESS TO ENTER INTO THE HOLIEST BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS."

You know, back in the Old Testament, NOBODY entered that Holy of Holies. NOBODY DID. If they did, they were killed. High priests, one time a year. And done it without blood. But now, every one of us are made what? Kings and priests under God. And we can come into the very presence of God. You'd think we'd make more use of that.

I think one of the reasons why we don't is this, we really don't sanctify God in our hearts like we ought to. That's the reason. And this access is called a NEW AND LIVING WAY. Look in verse 19, having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus by a new and living way.

LIVING WAY, THAT'S CHRIST, I'M THE WAY, I'M THE LIVING WAY, WHICH HE HAS CONSECRATED, NEW MADE FOR US THROUGH THE VEIL, THAT'S TO SAY HIS FLESH, HIS FLESH.

And I'm going to close. We have the life of the believer under this new covenant. THE LIFE OF THE BELIEVER IS TO DRAW NEAR UNTO GOD WITH FULL ASSURANCE OF FAITH. Let us draw near with a true heart, a sincere heart, and full assurance of faith, not doubting Not doubting, not coming to God and doubting, oh, I don't know.

It's like I told you this story, I gotta tell it again, I gotta put this one in a bulletin. It's that guy that ran out of gas, remember that story? No, you don't. I'm glad, because I'm gonna tell it again. This guy ran out of gas. So he gets his gas can and he starts to walk into this farmhouse he saw. And the closer he got to the farmer, he walked and he said, he's not going to give me any gas. And the closer he got, he said, I know he's not going to give me any gas. I'm a stranger. Why would he give me any gas? And he got up next to the porch. I know he's not going to give me any gas. And he knocked on the door and that farmer came to the door. He said, can I help you? He said, keep your old gas. Keep your gas. Don't come to God like that.

LET US DRAW NEAR WITH A TRUE HEART IN FULL ASSURANCE OF FAITH, HAVING OUR HEARTS SPRINKLED FROM AN EVIL CONSCIENCE, AND OUR BODIES WASHED WITH PURE WATER, AND HOLDING FAST TO THE CONFESSION OR CONFESSION OF OUR FAITH, FIRM TO THE END. WE DON'T QUIT.

" Some of the Hebrews wouldn't quit, and he said, Don't quit, don't quit, don't quit. The Word of God holds out no hope for quitters. And those who believe, Paul said, we are not of them who draw back unto perdition, but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

And then last of all, the final outcome, perfected forever by one offering, as you see that in verse 14 of chapter 10. We await our Lord's return there in verse 28. We are awaiting His return. Confident He's coming. Are you confident the Lord's coming? He's coming. I may not see the end of the world, but I'll see the end of my time in this world in a little while. In a little while. And the end of it is eternal fellowship with God. Doesn't get any better than that.
