There are two things that one must have in order to
come before God, to come into His presence. It's been made
very clear throughout the Word of God. There must be a high priest,
a representative, and there must be a blood sacrifice. when the
atonement was made once a year, all of Israel did not go into
the Holy of Holies one by one. The High Priest went in on their
behalf with the blood of atonement and put it upon the altar. There
is no coming into the presence of God, there is no approaching
God apart from the Lord Jesus Christ, our High his sacrifice
and his blood which is the blood of the atonement for our sins
and the good news of the gospel is this we have in Christ all that we
need to enter in to God's presence. It says in first Corinthians
1 30 HE'S MADE UNTO US WISDOM, RIGHTEOUSNESS,
SANCTIFICATION, AND REDEMPTION. And I like the way it's written.
HE'S MADE THESE THINGS UNTO US. These are not just things He
gives us, though we have them. HE IS THESE THINGS TO US. HE
IS OUR WISDOM, OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS, OUR SANCTIFICATION, OUR REDEMPTION. HE IS THESE THINGS TO US. Now
I read verse 9, we left off there last week, and verse 9 says this,
But we see Jesus. Now if we truly do, we can go
on. IF WE DON'T, WE'LL MISS THE WHOLE
BOOK OF HEBREWS, WE'LL MISS THE WHOLE BIBLE IF WE DON'T SEE HIM. THE REST OF THE BOOK OF HEBREWS
IS A REVELATION OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. THE PURPOSE FOR THE WHOLE BIBLE
IS THAT WE MIGHT SEE IN CHRIST ALL THAT WE NEED. and we might
see in Him our salvation. It is made very evident in the
book of Hebrews that He's able to save, and this is where it's
bringing us to, this man, we see Jesus the man, and this man
is able to save unto the uttermost them that come unto God by him
seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. The whole book of Hebrews is
establishing that truth. He is our Savior, He's an able
Savior, He's a willing Savior, He's everything I need. Jesus
Christ is made to me, we sing the song, He's made to me all
I need, all I need, I don't need anything else. Now in verse 10
there are two people mentioned, two persons mentioned in this
verse. For it became him, it was fitting just like him FOR WHOM ARE ALL THINGS, AND
BY WHOM ARE ALL THINGS. He's speaking here of the FATHER. ALL THINGS ARE OF GOD. ALL THINGS
BEGAN WITH GOD THE FATHER. CREATION, EVEN THOUGH HE CREATED
ALL THINGS THROUGH AND BY JESUS CHRIST, HE PURPOSED CREATION. ALL THINGS THAT WILL HAPPEN IN
PROVIDENCE IS BY THE PURPOSE OF OUR FATHER. HE PURPOSED IT. NOTHING JUST HAPPENED TODAY. NOTHING JUST HAPPENED. You watch
the news, and I'm sure you can't get away from the news, it's
on every channel just about. But when you watch it, you see
something, you don't get much of a picture, but you see something
in God's providence of what went on throughout the world. We see God s hand in everything.
The Father purposed this. Everything He purposed, He purposed
in Christ and He purposed for us in Christ and He s bringing
us. Listen, He s bringing us. That s what s going on right
now. Boy, if we could just see the businessman I used to run
a business for, he always would say to me, You need to see the
big picture. We need to see the big picture. He s bringing us
to glory. He's bringing us. Whatever He's
putting us through is part of the journey home. Remember that.
Remember that. Whatever God's putting you through
or will put you through, it's part of the journey home. He's
bringing you to glory. Heaven. It's glory or heaven,
it's interchangeable. But the Father is the first cause
of all things. And the Apostle tells us here
that it's just like our Heavenly Father to bring many sons to
glory. It's just like Him. It's just
like Him. It's just like God who is loved
to bring many sons to glory. He's going to express His love.
Now someone's going to say He did not provide a Savior for
the fallen angels. He left them alone. Well, you
know, there's a multitude that didn't fall. There's a whole
multitude of angels that would have fallen that didn't fall.
They are called the ELECT ANGELS. So yes, He did express His love
and He kept a multitude of them from falling. And then there's
this second person here mentioned. It says here, But we see Jesus,
who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering
of death, CROWNED WITH GLORY AND HONOR, THAT HE BY THE GRACE
OF GOD SHOULD TAKE DEATH FOR EVERY MAN, FOR IT BECAME HIM,
FOR WHOM ARE ALL THINGS, AND BY WHOM ARE ALL THINGS, AND BRINGING
MANY SONS TO GLORY, TO MAKE THE CAPTAIN," Here's the second person. "...TO MAKE THE CAPTAIN OF THEIR
SALVATION PERFECT THROUGH SUFFERINGS." Plural, sufferings. We know who this captain is,
don't we? This captain is the Son of God. We have a captain
that cannot fail. We have a captain that fights
the war and wins and he says, this battle is mine, it's not
yours. You stand over there and watch. He did battle with the
forces of darkness and defeated darkness. Satan defeated him. Our captain defeated sin, Satan,
the grave, I'm not going to say he defeated
the law because he didn't. He fulfilled the law. He didn't
come to defeat the law. He came to fulfill it. Oh, he
said, Oh, how I love thy law. As Paul said, the law is good.
The law is good. Nothing wrong with God's law.
I heard a preacher say one time, I just kind of troubled me. I know,
I know what he was saying, but that troubled me. Because I felt
like it was misapplied. He said the law is a cruel taskmaster,
is a cruel husband. You know, the Lord didn't find
the law to be cruel. He said, I love the law. The
problem is the wife was a prostitute. The wife was a prostitute. She's
a whore. And the law is strict, it's strict,
it demands. Our Lord had no trouble with
the law. Paul said the law is good. Let's keep it in its proper
place. The problem is with us. It's
with us, not with God's law. God's law is holy, it's good. It's God's law. I thought the
statement was a little misleading. It's the problem is not with
the law, it's with the wife. She's a bad one. She's a bad,
bad wife. But it's just like our Heavenly
Father to bring many sons to glory, and He's made the captain
of our salvation perfect through suffering. And we know this captain,
as I said, is the Lord Jesus Christ. And He's called a captain
because it's a military term, because it's a battle. It's a
battle. It really is. And it's called
captain because he's our king. He's our king. He's our sovereign.
Our Lord is. And we're under his care to bring
us home. That's good news to a sinner.
That's good news to a sinner. I'm his responsibility. WE CAN'T HAVE A WISER CAPTAIN.
OUR CAPTAIN HAS ALL POWER, ALL AUTHORITY. HE HAS ALL POWER AND
ALL AUTHORITY OVER ALL THE ENEMY. CAN'T HAVE A BETTER CAPTAIN.
THAT WORD CAN ALSO BE READ LIKE THIS, HE'S THE CHAMPION OF OUR
SALVATION, THE CHAMPION. And then the third one's mentioned
here, it says in verse 11, well it says in bringing many sons
to glory that's us that's us we're the many sons many many sons it says here it became
him for whom are all things and by whom are all things in bringing
many sons to glory he's bringing us he's bringing us to glory
this is what's going on you know you go out of here and you go
to your respective jobs and homes or whatever it is you're doing
and then each week we come back here and we hear the gospel preached
and by God's grace we grow in grace and knowledge of Christ
and and all this all that's going on in our generation right now
he's bringing us home he's bringing us to glory he's preparing us
for glory you know this our Lord said in John 14 I go and prepare
a place for you and if I go and prepare a place for you I'll
come again receive you to myself that where I am there you may
be also but now he's preparing us for that place he's preparing
us for it then he says in verse 11 FOR BOTH HE THAT SANCTIFIETH
AND THEY WHO ARE SANCTIFIED, THAT HAS TO DO WITH BEING SET
APART, MADE HOLY, BE CONSECRATED, WHAT IT IS. HE THAT SANCTIFIETH
AND THEY WHO ARE SANCTIFIED ARE ALL OF ONE. ALL OF ONE WHAT? FATHER. WE HAVE THE SAME FATHER THAT
JESUS CHRIST HAS, YOU KNOW THAT? YOU KNOW THAT. WE HAVE THE SAME FATHER. THE
GOD AND FATHER OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST IS ALSO OUR FATHER. HE
SAID I GO TO MY FATHER AND YOUR FATHER. HE'S SPEAKING HERE AS A MAN BEGOTTEN OF GOD, THE HUMAN NATURE
OF CHRIST, THE MAN CHRIST JESUS, AND HE'S SAYING MY FATHER AND
YOUR FATHER ARE ONE. He that sanctifieth those who
are sanctified, you know you're sanctified, you who believe,
you're set apart, you're made holy in Christ, you've been consecrated
to God, you're for His use. We have one Father, even God,
God the Father, and this is why He's not ashamed This is why he's not ashamed
to call them brethren. Is there anybody you're ashamed
of in your family to call brother or sister? I might be the one they're ashamed
of, I don't know. He's not ashamed to call them
brethren. He came into this world, God,
listen, God chose a people out of the dunghill. Not many mighty, not many noble,
are called. God chose the poorest, He chose
the sinful, the wretched. Paul said, Oh, wretched man that
I am. Those are the ones He chose and He said, I'm not ashamed
to call them brethren. They're my brothers and sisters. You know, there's been a times
that every one of us has been ashamed of our Lord. We've not
stood up for Him. That's being ashamed of WE SHOWED
UP AND WE SHOULD HAVE STOOD UP. THAT'S BEING ASHAMED OF HIM.
NOT ONE TIME HAS HE EVER BEEN ASHAMED OF US. NOT ONE TIME. HE'S NEVER BEEN ASHAMED TO OWN
US AS HIS BROTHERS AND SISTERS.
HE'S NOT ASHAMED. THEY CALL THEM BROTHERS. AND HERE'S WHAT THEY SAY AND
LISTEN. 12 through 15. He's saying, I will
declare thy name unto my brethren. He's showing us here His oneness
with us. I wish we could get a hold of
that, our oneness with the Lord Jesus Christ. Thou worm, Jacob. And then what does he say on
the cross in Psalm 22? I am a worm. HE SO IDENTIFIED
WITH US, AND I WILL DECLARE THY NAME UNTO MY BRETHREN. HE DID,
HE DID, HE WENT THROUGH THE STREETS PREACHING, HE CALLED OUT THE
DISCIPLES, HE PREACHED THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. THAT'S WHAT IT SAYS,
HE PREACHED THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE DECLARED HIS NAME TO
THE BRETHREN IN THE MIDST OF THE CHURCH WHILE I SING PRAISE
TO THEE. WHAT DID THEY DO AFTER THEY TOOK THE SUPPER THAT NIGHT?
They went out and sang, didn't they? They went out into the
garden and they sang. And I assure you, they sang a
lot. I know they sang a lot. They sang a lot of the Psalms. Believe me, he knew the Psalms.
They were written about him. And he sang a lot. And his disciples
sang with him a lot. And again, He says, I'll put
my trust in Him. This shows here His humanity. As a man, He trusted God. And He trusted God perfectly.
He trusted God perfectly. I've never done that. You've
never done that. We never will do that in this
life, but He did. And that's our righteousness.
Because, listen, obedience Every act of obedience starts with
believing God. It starts with trusting God.
Every act of obedience starts with trusting God. Every act of disobedience starts
by not trusting God. You don't believe Him. The very root of sin, the very
root of all sin, no matter what you name it, no matter what sin
it is, THE VERY ROOT OF IT IS UNBELIEF. THE VERY ROOT OF ALL DISOBEDIENCE
IS UNBELIEF. THE BESETTING SIN, SPOKEN OF
HERE IN HEBREWS, THE BESETTING SIN, YOU KNOW WHAT THE BESETTING
SIN IS THAT WE'RE ALL GUILTY OF, WE ALL STRUGGLE WITH? UNBELIEF. THAT'S THE BESETTING
SIN. IT NEVER BESET OUR LORD. HE NEVER
HAD A PROBLEM BELIEVING GOD. Again, I will put my trust in
Him, and again, behold, I and the children which God hath given
me. Here's ELECTION! How can? Well,
I know how people deny it, they're just DEAD, they're dead spiritually,
that's how they deny it. he says here behold here's here's
a here's something important this is one of those statements
that is made for you to and i to listen as i told you listening
is paying attention here he's saying pay attention and again
i and the children which god has given me all god's children
were given to jesus christ to bring home spotless he's going to present
every one of them without blemish without spot he's going to bring
us home he's going to bring us home i was reading i was reading today
in that book on the holocaust and finally at the point where
germany loses and these people been hiding in the forest for
two years and it's just, I mean, it's just awful. And they're
out there kissing the soldiers. The war's over and they're kissing
those soldiers. Victory, they have the victory now. We have
a greater victory than that. We've been delivered from sin,
self, Satan, darkness, ignorance, death. spiritual death, final
death, the second death, the lake of fire, you know, there
is such a place and we've been delivered from
it. I and the children which God
hath given me, for as much then as the children are partakers
of flesh and blood, and that's what we are, flesh and blood, weak frail creatures aren't we
flesh and blood lower than the angels created lower than the
angels for a little while flesh and blood and because the children
were partakers of flesh and blood he also himself likewise in the
same manner took part of the same same flesh and blood he's
not a I'm trying to think of the word anyway. He's real flesh
and blood. He took part of this thing. And here's why he did it. Here's
why he did it. There's two reasons why he did
it. One is to deliver us from death and the fear of death.
AND THAT WE MIGHT HAVE A MERCIFUL AND FAITHFUL HIGH PRIEST IN THINGS
PERTAINING TO GOD, THAT WE WOULD HAVE A HIGH PRIEST WHO COULD
BE TOUCHED WITH THE FEELING OF OUR INFIRMITIES." You see, as
God, as God, He wouldn't be able to be touched with the feeling
of our infirmities the way Christ is as a man who went through
all the temptations you and I go through, all the sufferings you
and I go through. He's gone through it, yet without
sin. he's able to he's able to identify
with us we have someone who can identify with us he remembers
our frame that it's dust you see the children that God
is saving and bringing to glory were partakers of flesh and blood
and so the Lord Jesus Christ took part of the same flesh and
blood that through death through dying And death, he actually
tasted death. He said, I won't taste death. Our bodies will struggle to die.
When we come to die, our bodies will struggle to live. They're
made to live, they want to live. All you got to do is hold your
breath. You'll find out how much your body wants to live. But he through death, that he
might destroy him that had the power of death, that's the devil.
HE DOESN'T HAVE THE POWER OF DEATH AS FAR AS HAVING IT OVER
GOD. IN OTHER WORDS, HE'S MORE POWERFUL
THAN GOD AND HE'S THE REASON WHY WE DIE. NO, WE DIE BECAUSE
OF SIN. HE INTRODUCED SIN AND SIN BROUGHT
FORTH DEATH. THAT'S WHY HE SAID TO HAVE THE
POWER OF DEATH BECAUSE HE INTRODUCED SIN. BUT THY LORD BY HIS DEATH
DESTROYED THE POWER OF DEATH. DEATH HAS NO MORE DOMINION OVER
YOU. THE LAW HAS NO MORE DOMINION OVER YOU. SATAN HAS NO MORE DOMINION
OVER YOU. SIN HAS NO MORE DOMINION OVER
YOU. CHRIST SITS ENTHRONED IN THE HEART. HE HAS DOMINION OVER
US. WE'RE HIS. YOU SEE, HE'S THE
STRONGER MAN WHO HAS TAKEN OVER THE HOUSE. As it says later in Hebrew, WHOSE
HOUSE ARE WE? WE ARE HIS HOUSE. THIS IS THE
HOUSE OF GOD. YOU ARE. YOU MAKE UP THE HOUSE
OF GOD, AND DELIVER THEM WHO THROUGH
FEAR OF DEATH WERE ALL THEIR LIFETIME SUBJECT TO BONDAGE.
Brethren, there is a fear in death if you don't know God.
I've watched some people die that didn't know God and had
no fear, but everybody's trying not to die, aren't they? I'm
not mad at anybody who's trying not to die. THEY DON'T WANT TO
DIE. THEY DO HAVE A FEAR IN THE SENSE
THAT THEY DON'T WANT TO DIE. IT'S THE UNKNOWN TO THEM. BUT WE HAVE NO REASON TO FEAR
DEATH. WE HAVE NO REASON. THE LORD JESUS CHRIST TOOK OUR
DEATH. HE TOOK THE STING OUT OF DEATH. IT'LL BE A DAY OF CELEBRATION. People will sit in here and mourn
over each one as we die, and people will come here and mourn,
but there is no mourning in heaven. There is no mourning in the presence
of God when the child of God comes home or is rejoicing. You parents, do you rejoice when
your children come home? Well, some of you do. I know
there's some kids I don't know that I would rejoice. That's
just so, just so. But there's rejoicing in heaven. There's rejoicing in heaven among
the angels when one sinner repenteth. Now think of what rejoicing there
is when that sinner is brought home to full glory, to full glory. to see the Lord Jesus Christ,
to know God, to see all the saints of God, your brothers and your
sisters, to see what a big family you've got and the angels. I've
not seen an angel, but I will, but all the hosts of heaven to
see all that, to enjoy all that and be a part of it, be a part
of it, not just stand back and look at it, but actually be a
part of it. he going to deliver them who
through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage
a bondage of fear and verily he took not on him than the nature
of angels those fallen angels god did not provide a savior
they have no hope they have no hope said have you come to torment
us before the time but you know something else is absent they
know who he is they know he's the savior they know that they
know god's merciful they know that they they see that as god
has mercy on us but not one of them ever asked for mercy not
at once Not one ever said, Lord, save
me. You know what they ask? Can we
go and get in those pigs? Can we go over there and get
in the pigs? Don't send us out of the country. But they never said, Lord, save
me. It's like those people who were
standing there before the Lord and they said, we preach in your
name, cast out devils in your name and did many mighty works
in your name. And he says, depart from me,
I never knew you. Not one of them said, Lord, didn't you die
for me? Did you not shed your blood for me? Not one of them. All they talked about was what
they did for him. NOT WHAT HE DID FOR THEM. OUR HOPE OF HEAVEN
IS WHAT HE DID FOR US. THAT'S MY HOPE. MY HOPE HAS ZERO
TO DO WITH WHAT I'VE DONE FOR HIM. I CAN'T SAY I'VE DONE ANYTHING
FOR THE LORD. HE SAID WHEN YOU'VE DONE ALL
YOU CAN DO, YOU KNOW WHAT HE SAID TO SAY? YOU'RE UNPROFITABLE SERVANTS. YOU ONLY DID WHAT YOU SHOULD
BE DOING. Everything that I do if there's any good in it. I
ought to do it It ought to be done. You can't boast and brag
about it That's like somebody showing up for work and wants
you to brag on for showing up for work You gotta show up for
work you hired He took not on him the nature of angel he took
on him the seed of Abraham as I said not the seed of Adam seed
of Abraham and the children which you've given me. I took on the
seed of Abraham, the promised seed, those whom God chose." He said,
These are the ones I I came came to redeem these are mine wherefore
in all things it behooved him be made like to his brethren
he wasn't ashamed be made like his brethren that he might be
a merciful faithful high priest and things pertaining to god
you see every high priest it says is taken from among men
so he's got to become a man he has to become a man Because every
high priest is taken from among men to represent us and to do
the office of a high priest which is to offer the atonement, to
offer the sacrifice, to make intercession, that?s what it?s
for. THAT HE MIGHT BE A MERCIFUL AND
FAITHFUL HIGH PRIEST IN THINGS PERTAINING TO GOD, TO MAKE RECONCILIATION
FOR THE SINS OF THE PEOPLE. That's what he did, he made reconciliation
for our sins, our offenses, our disobedience. FOR IN THAT HE
HIMSELF HAS SUFFERED, BEING TEMPTED, TRIED. Now think of his time
in the wilderness Forty days, forty nights, tempted of the
devil. He was tried and tempted on every
turn. But he never gave in like we
do. I've learned this about temptations. When temptations come my way,
I'm probably going to either give in to it or the Lord's going
to have to remove it. That's one or the other. remove
it or i'll probably give in to it for in that he himself has suffered
being tempted he's able to help sucker them that are tempted
he's able to help us he can identify with us in this world We live
in an evil world. He knows where we live. He knows
what we go through. He knows what Paul Cadet and
Florence and Gloria have gone through. Johnny Tyndall, he knows.
He's able to help us through it. You know, the scripture says
that He will not put upon us more than we can bear. But being
God, He can enable us to bear everything He puts upon us. NO
MATTER HOW HARD IT IS, HE CAN ENABLE US TO BEAR IT, JUST LIKE
JOB. HE ENABLED JOB TO BEAR THAT VERY,
VERY DIFFICULT TRIAL. JOB COULDN'T DO THAT, GOD ENABLED
HIM TO DO THAT. WE HAVE ONE WHO BECAME ONE OF
US. That He might make us one with
Himself, with the Father, with the Trinity. We are one with
Him. It's amazing that God would become
one of us and He might make us. And I think, I've thought about
how I'm saying this. I try to be careful not to just
say things off the top of my head. But He became one of us and He
might make us one like them. That which is born of the Spirit
is what? Spirit Scripture says he's made us partakers of the
divine nature Rather we have we just can't even imagine What
what it's going to be like what we're going to be like when this
is over All right
