In the sermon "A Cry For Us & Our Children," Paul Mahan addresses the urgent need for mercy as exemplified by the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15:21-28. Mahan emphasizes that true humility and desperation for God's mercy are essential in the current cultural context, arguing that many today are complacent and fail to recognize their need for divine help. He references the passage to underscore that Christ engaged with this woman despite her unworthiness, illustrating His willingness to respond to the cries of sinners. The sermon draws practical implications for believers, urging them to actively intercede for their families and recognize their inherent need for mercy in prayerful supplication. By emphasizing themes of electing grace and the necessity of genuine repentance, Mahan calls believers to cry out to the Lord for themselves and their loved ones, reminding them that mercy is to be sought above all else.

Key Quotes

“This is one woman. One woman. He left... to see a Galilee by the sea, and walked over the mountains... to call on one woman. How do you know? Because she's going to call on him.”

“She asked for one thing, mercy. So he left the men... and he went all the way to Tyre and Sidon.”

“What do you think of when you think of great faith? You think of Abraham, you think of Noah... Our Lord called it great faith a woman who would not quit calling and would not quit praying.”

“Have mercy on me, O Lord. The fear of the Lord. That's the beginning of saving wisdom.”

What does the Bible say about mercy?

The Bible teaches that mercy is not receiving the punishment we deserve and is essential for sinners seeking salvation.

Mercy is a fundamental attribute of God as presented in the Bible. It represents God's compassion and forgiveness towards mankind, who are inherently sinful and undeserving of His grace. In Psalm 51, King David cries out, 'Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness; according to the multitude of thy tender mercies, blot out my transgressions.' This plea for mercy illustrates the human condition of sinfulness and the need for God's grace. Thus, understanding mercy as an expression of divine grace is vital for every Christian, particularly as we acknowledge our own shortcomings and our need for redemption through Christ.

Psalm 51:1, Luke 18:13

How do we know that Jesus can grant mercy?

Jesus exemplifies the granting of mercy through His actions, as shown in the story of the Canaanite woman who cried out for help.

In Matthew 15:21-28, we see a poignant example of the power of Christ to grant mercy. The Canaanite woman approaches Jesus, desperate for mercy for her demon-possessed daughter. Despite initial silence and the suggestion that it was not fitting to give the children's bread to dogs, her persistent faith and plea for mercy compel Jesus to respond affirmatively. This narrative powerfully illustrates that Jesus, knowing the depths of human need, responds to those who seek Him earnestly. His ability to grant mercy is not based on human merit but on His sovereign grace, demonstrating that He is willing to help those who recognize their need for Him.

Matthew 15:21-28, Hebrews 4:16

Why is it important for Christians to seek mercy?

Seeking mercy is vital for Christians as it acknowledges our dependence on God's grace for salvation and the salvation of others.

The importance of seeking mercy cannot be overstated in the life of a Christian. As sinners, we must recognize our inability to earn salvation and instead turn to God with humility. This is well represented in the narrative of the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15, who exemplifies the urgency of calling out for mercy. Her approach signifies the heart of true repentance and faith, elements that are indispensable for receiving salvation. Furthermore, as Christians, we are called to intercede for our loved ones, persistently seeking mercy not only for ourselves but also on behalf of those who are lost. This fervent plea reflects a deep understanding of our desperate need for grace amidst a world that often overlooks it.

Matthew 15:21-28, Ezekiel 16:4-6

How can we pray for mercy like the Canaanite woman?

We can pray for mercy by coming humbly before the Lord, acknowledging our need for His grace, and persistently seeking His help.

To pray for mercy as the Canaanite woman did involves a heartfelt and earnest approach to God. In her desperation, she did not shy away from expressing her needs before the Lord, clearly stating, 'Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David.' This exemplifies the essence of effective prayer: recognizing who God is and our own helplessness. True prayer for mercy is marked by humility, acknowledging that we and those we pray for are undeserving of anything good from God. It also entails persistence; the woman's unwavering cry demonstrates the importance of not giving up in our prayers. We must approach the throne of grace with confidence, believing that God hears our cries and is willing to respond with mercy as we intercede for ourselves and others.

Speaking of heat, the Lord sent
some heat here, and that reminded me of, and the Revelation speaks
of in the last days, the Lord scorching men with heat, and
they blasphemed Him. They didn't repent, didn't call
for mercy, they blasphemed His name. Someone the other day was
complaining about the heat, and I said, it's not as hot as it's
going to be. Matthew 15. Go over to Matthew
15. Matthew 15. This is a familiar story preached
many times to you here and other places. We still need it. More
than anything, more than ever, do we need to hear this woman,
her urgent cry for her and her daughter for mercy. Now more than ever, in fact,
You know, the crowd's down a little bit. I don't know where everybody
is or whatever, but Paul wrote the end of Hebrews. Let us not
forsake the assembly of ourselves together as a matter of some
end, but let us exhort one another so much more as you see the day
approaching. The day of what? The day when
Christ is coming. When Christ is coming, our Lord
said, as in the days of Noah, are you with me? As in the days of Noah, eating
and drinking and buying and selling and didn't even, everything looks
fine, doesn't it? Sunny day, peace, peace. Our
land, this nation is more peace and prosperity. There's not been
a bomb fall for years and everybody's just, everybody's just fine. He said, as in the days of Noah,
so shall the coming of the Son of Man be. They knew not, took
them away. Let us not be as others. Let us watch and pray. The scripture said, it's urgent.
It's an urgent message. I don't preach peace, peace when
there is no peace. I preach peace in Christ. for
those who call upon Him for mercy, like this woman. But we need
this more than ever, now more than ever. It's more urgent in
these last days. A woman, verse 21 and 22, Jesus
went thence or left somewhere and departed into the coast of
Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a woman of Canaan
came out. She came out of those same coasts
and cried unto Him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord. Our son
of David, my daughter, was grievously vexed with the devil. A woman came crying to the Lord
for herself and her daughter. You don't see this much anymore,
do you? You don't hear it. Do you hear anybody calling and
crying and pleading for mercy with God? Do you? Do you? You don't hear this anymore,
do you? You just don't. This is one woman. One woman. He left, he departed
the lake, Genesaret is where it was. Look at verse 1. He came,
then came to Jesus, they came to Jesus, scribes and Pharisees,
and they started arguing with him and questioning what he was
saying. Verse 12, the disciples said, Lord, the Pharisees were
offended at what they heard you say. They came arguing, they
came critiquing, they came to find fault with, that they didn't
come to worship the Lord Jesus Christ. They came to Jesus to
argue with Him and critique His Word and all that. And His disciples
said, they're offended. What did the Lord say about these
fellows? Look at it. He said, every plant which my
Heavenly Father hath not planted up shall be rooted up. Let them
alone. Leave them alone. They're blind
leaders of the blind. Blind lead the blind. They're
both going to fall into the ditch. Leave them alone. So he left
that place. He departed. Our prayer should
be, Oh, Lord, don't leave us alone. Lord, don't leave this
place. Don't leave Rocky Mount, Virginia.
The gospel is going to leave eventually if the Lord doesn't
come for it. It always has. Wherever there's been a true
gospel church, it's only lasted 50 or 60 years or so, and then
it leaves. That's a fact. All the churches
in the Revelation are gone. Laodicea and Sardis and Philippi
and all, they're gone. No gospel there. The last church, the Lord warned
them, Laodicea, do you know what he said to them? You're rich and increased with
good. You don't have any need anymore. The first church, he
said, you've left your first love. When you first heard the
gospel, you loved to hear it. You couldn't get enough of hearing
it. You come early and you just love God's people. Now where
are you? See, we're in the last days.
Our Lord said you're rich and increased with goods, and everyone
in this room is, compared to Most in the world, we really
are. And he said, you don't know that
you're wretched, miserable, poor, blind, naked. He said, I counsel you,
buy from me, buy the truth and don't sell it for anything. You're
going to need it. This truth that you're about
to hear, So the Lord departed when these scribes and Pharisees
left them alone, and behold, a woman came. One woman. A Canaanite woman. She came to Christ for mercy.
See, the Lord left these Pharisees, and He came. He went to Tyre
and Sidon. Do you know where Tyre and Sidon
is? Do you like to look at the maps in your Bible? It's a good
thing. You'll see just how far the Lord
went. He walked everywhere, except
when he got in a ship to cross over that Gazi Gap back and forth,
back and forth. But he walked 35 miles over mountains
to Tyre and Sidon. It's the furthermost, uttermost,
northernmost part of Israel. He left down there to see a Galilee
by the sea, and walked over the mountains like going to Christiansburg.
Walked into Christiansburg. Why? One woman. To find one woman. To call on
one woman. How do you know? Because she's
going to call on him. He's able to save to the uttermost
all that come unto him. call upon Him. He's willing. Behold a woman, Christ said,
I'm not come to call the righteous, not those Pharisees, but sinners
to repent. Only sinners come calling on
Christ. I tell you what, only Christ comes calling on sinners. Only sinners will be heard and
helped by our Lord. What do sinners need? This woman
asked for one thing, mercy. So he left the men, he left these
Pharisees, and he went all the way to Tyre and Sidon. And this
woman of Canaan, now what is, where is Canaan? She's a descendant
of Ham. Canaan. Cursed people. Her parents, her family, her
children didn't know God. They didn't love God. They weren't
good people. They weren't fine, God-fearing
Christian people. They didn't know God. They may
have claimed to be, but they were not. They were not. What about your heritage? Where
are you from? What about your family? This
woman makes no excuse for herself or her daughter. See, we need mercy. We lost. Listen to Ezekiel 16. The word
of the Lord came to the preacher, and that's me. Son of man, that's
who I am. I'm the son of Adam. Son of a
man. Caused Jerusalem to know her
what? Abominations. Our society is an abomination
to God. Why? The fault is in religion. That's
not the answer. It's the problem. It was a problem
in Israel, and it's a problem in the United States of America.
False religion. A false God. Where is the God
of Elijah? Where is the God of judgment? He's not being preached in the
United States of America. He's being preached in this pulpit
in a few places. And there are a few people asking
for that one thing needful, mercy, at the hands of this God. Cause
them to know. Tell them, thus saith the Lord,
to Jerusalem. Your birth, your nativity is
the land of Canaan. Your father was an Amorite. Your
mother was a Hittite. Heathen. You're heathen. I laugh, you laugh, when I tell
you that story about Daniel Parks, when he went to the mission field
down in the Virgin Islands. His son D, Daniel is his name,
they call him D, when he was just a child, just born, in the
hospital, and you know, they fill out those questionnaires
about, you know, the child's name and all that, and on that
questionnaire was religion. And the nurse asked Daniel about
his newborn son, what's his religion? He said, he doesn't have any. He was just born. Well, he said,
we've got to write something down. What's his religion? He
said, heathen. He's a heathen. He's born dead in sin. The Canaanites were enemies of
God. They hated God. That was us. That is our children. That is our fathers and our mothers
and our children and our brothers and sisters and our neighbors.
And that's Rocky Mount, Virginia. That's all people by nature.
That's Romans 1, isn't it? Haters of God. Oh, I don't hate
God. I hate the God of the Bible. I don't hate their conception
of God, and that's Romans 1 too, an imagination of God, that God's
this way and God's that way. And religion has told everybody
so much, God loves everybody and everybody believes it, so
nobody's crying for mercy. Right? Do you? You know how blessed
you are if you know that the one thing you need more than
anything from God is mercy? This woman came asking for one
thing. Mercy? It's of the Lord's what that
we're not consumed? I'm not mad at you, but it's
urgent. I'm thankful. I look around the
room and I see people like this woman that came to Christ and
keep coming to Christ. Why do you come here this morning?
You need mercy, don't you? We need to hear from the Lord.
We're calling on the Lord. We're praying on the Lord. We're
not going through the motions. I'm not going through the motions.
I'm not here for you to hear my voice. I'm here, I hope the
Lord will hear our voice. And I hope you'll hear His voice.
And I hope you'll call and cry like this woman. Cry for yourself
and cry for your daughters and your sons. Because the one thing
we need desperately in these last days is mercy. She came out. Where'd she come
out of? She came out of town. Christ wasn't in town. Scripture
says, well, let's go therefore unto him without the camp. Outside
the camp of religion. He's not downtown in First Baptist
Church. He's not there. He's not within
a mile of that place. How do I know? Nobody's calling
for mercy. She came out. Where'd she come
to? She didn't come to the spring
women's gathering. She didn't come to church. She
didn't come to PTO meetings. She's not going to the swimming
pool. She's coming to Christ. She's coming to worship Christ.
She's coming to seek something from Christ that she needs and
her daughter needs desperately. Don't holler, preacher. Oh my,
the Scripture says, lift up your voice, lift it up with strength.
Say unto Judah, say unto Jerusalem, behold, your God in all flesh
is grass. This is a miracle that this woman
came to Christ. People everywhere are coming
to church, they're coming to the beauty parlor, they're coming
to special meetings, coming to hear this famous woman preacher. Why are you here? This woman is coming to Christ.
She needs Christ. She came crying, calling. She came crying, crying, weeping. Can you hear her? Sure you can,
some of you, because you have. You do. You still do, don't you? Lord, have mercy on me and my
son. My son doesn't know you. My daughter
doesn't know you. They're in this world and taken
up by this world and completely captive to this world and vexed
by it. How do I know? Because that was me. Please,
Lord, if you don't do something, I can't do anything. She's calling on the Lord. She's
not wanting to be heard by anybody but Him. And people pray. The Pharisees stand on the street
corner, and they're all trying to be seen of men. Look how we're
praying. We're praying in the restaurant.
We're praying in the nursing home. We're praying. This woman wanted one person
to hear her. She's calling on one person for
Him to hear her, and her one need is, Lord, please have mercy
on me and my daughter. Please. Please. He heard her. Mandy and I went to visit Nancy
when she first was put in the nursing home, and that first
room she was in, there was a woman. And we walked in, and there was
a woman that had a guitar, and she was playing that guitar and
singing. She had a pretty voice, singing some hymns and singing
loud. And just saying, and she didn't
even look up when we came in. She didn't know anybody else
was in there, but she was... It was all about her. Anyway,
we asked her, Ma'am, we came here to visit our friend, and
she's not going to be able to hear us. We want to talk to our
friend. And she quit playing. And she
went out in the hallway and started playing louder than ever. We
still could see her. She's not praying for God to hear her.
She's praying for people to hear her. Listen to me. Aren't I something? That's what
the other people would say. She's got a pretty voice. And that's this religious world.
Look at me. Listen to me. It's all about
me. That's what we read in Jeremiah. Supplanters. It's all about me. Would you look at me? Aren't
I something? Aren't I a good Christian? Everybody needs to
hear me. No, everybody needs mercy. This woman came crying unto the
Lord Jesus Christ. Now notice what she said. Verse
22. Have mercy on me, O Lord." She
didn't say, Praise Jesus, Precious Jesus, Blessed be the name of
Jesus. She said, Lord. That's the beginning
of saving wisdom. The fear of the Lord. That's what she called Him, because
that's who He is. She needs mercy, and that comes
from one place. The Lord. First thing we realize when God
deals with us, we're in the hands of the Lord. Our souls, our lives,
our children, everything about us is in the hands of the Lord
to do with as He pleases. Before He did anything for her,
before He answered her, before He knew that she was going to
save her daughter, she bowed down, feared Him, and worshipped
and called and asked for mercy of the Lord. The Lord. This is how everybody that knows
Him. We read that in Jeremiah 9? They
don't know me. Men and women and children everywhere
call on Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. They don't know the Lord. When
you come to know the Lord, you'll call Him that. And you'll keep
calling that. So whosoever shall call on the
name of who? The Lord shall be saved. I'm
telling you the truth. This is true. It makes you free
from religion that has people involved in it. We need mercy. Have mercy. We need mercy. Mercy
means not getting what we deserve. Mercy means being spared the
wrath and judgment of God. That's what mercy means. Mercy
is what everyone needs the most, but few know it. We need mercy from God because
of our sins against God. I was going to read Psalm 51
to you. Against thee, here's repentance.
Here's the cry of a sinner. Have mercy on me, O God. According
to thy lovingkindness, according to the multitude of thy tender
mercies, blot out my transgressions. Against thee and thee only have
I sinned and done this evil. Right in your plain view. I said,
if you judge me, if you cast me out, I'll get what I deserve. But wash me through. She cried,
have mercy on me. Have mercy on me. That's repentance. And to come to Christ is faith.
We know you need mercy from God. You know there's one place. If
He teaches you that, He'll show you there's one place to come
for mercy, and that's Christ Jesus. She called Him, Lord,
thou Son of David. That's the Christ. That's who
he is, Messiah, Redeemer, Savior, covenant head, second Adam from
above, woman's seed, Christ, Christ, the only one, the God-man,
God-manuel, God-manifested man. That's Christ. Why do we call
him Christ? Because that's who we need. That's
who we need. Christ, the anointed one, the
one that God has chosen to bring to us, send to us. Have mercy on me. She said in
verse 22, my have mercy on me. Oh Lord, now son of David, my
daughter. My daughter had mercy on my daughter.
My daughter is grievously vexed with the devil. How did she know? Because she was vexed. Every true child of God is vexed
like lot. Scripture says that just man,
that righteous man, begs his soul day in and day out. A sin
within him and a sin all around him. He knew he needed one thing. He knew his sons and daughters
needed one thing. Mercy. And if the Lord didn't
lay hold of him and them, they're going to perish. That's a fact. How does the Lord lay hold of
us? What I'm doing right now. She knew her daughter was vexed
because she was vexed. My daughter needs mercy. My daughter
is not crying. The daughter wasn't calling on
the Lord, was she? The daughter wasn't there, was
she? And many of your sons and daughters
are not here. What is your hope for your daughter? What is the
one thing you wish for your sons and daughters? What did she hope
for? Lord, my daughter, she's not
here. She's not crying. She's not coming.
She's not calling. But I am. And she's not going
to stop. Our Lord in Luke 18, I was going
to turn there and tell you what the Lord said about someone praying.
He said, always pray and not quit. He said, there was a woman
who came to a judge and kept pleading with him for mercy,
pleading with him, and he wouldn't do it, he wouldn't do it, until
finally he said, I'm going to give her, she keeps coming, I'm
going to give her what she wants, she's not going away. And the
Lord said, when the Son of Man comes, will he find anybody like
that on earth? Will he find such faith as that?
Will he find somebody who's taken hold of me and won't let go like
Jacob? Now this woman did. Our Lord said this woman had
great faith. What do you think of when you
think of great faith? You think of Abraham, you think of Noah,
you think of David, you think of great conquests and all that.
Our Lord called it great faith a woman who would not quit calling
and would not quit praying until the Lord had mercy. And he said,
it's not fit for me to show you. And she said, just give me a
little bit. Just a little bit. He said, all I want from you,
I don't deserve anything, just a little bit of mercy. He said,
that's great faith. I've got this world of religious
people, God ought to do this, got all of the privileged, entitled
people, you know, I've accepted Jesus, I've claimed the promise.
This woman ain't claiming nothing. She's crying. She's begging. She's pleading. That's who God's
going to hear. She won't go away. The disciple
says, send her away. She comes to me. Look at verse
23. It says, send her away. She's
crying after us. That's a good thing, isn't it?
These men were sent by God. These men were called by God.
These men knew the Lord Jesus Christ. These men, the Lord had
given them power to preach the gospel, able to save and heal
and all. It's a good thing to come to
a man that God has sent and ask him questions and ask him for
wisdom and ask him for direction. Do you know what I should do?
And he's going to turn to the Word of God and he's going to
try to help you. He can't help you, but he can tell you who
will and who can. He can send you to him who will,
like they did. But it's a wise thing, isn't
it? Ain't nobody asking me anything anymore. Not many. There's a couple here now. Somebody
just texted me. I'll take that back. It meant
so much to me. Asked me, what should we do?
What did I do? I turned to Scripture. And they
seemed to appreciate it. I believe the Lord will bless
that person. He did this woman. I believe the Lord will give
that person what they're asking for. He did this one. Yes, he did. Yes, he did. The effectual, fervent prayer
of a righteous man. Ask. Seek. How did he say seek? When you search for me with all
your heart. When you don't quit. My daughter is captive to this
world, the God of this world. She's taken up with everything,
everyone in the world, taken up with everything and everyone
in this world but you, Lord. She's enamored with everyone
but God. Lord, please have mercy on her.
She doesn't know it. She's not vexed. She's vexed
but doesn't know it. Lord, I'm vexed for her. Please. Please. Please. My wife doesn't know you. She's
not here. My husband's not here. My brother,
my sister, they're not here. I am. Lord, please. Please. Scripture's full of people that
came to the Lord, will the Lord answer us on behalf of other
people? Yes, He will. Scriptures are full of it. The
centurion came for his servant. The only two people the Lord
said had great faith, the centurion came. And he wouldn't go away
either. And he thought the Lord had left
him, and he was so sad. But what he said to the Lord
is, Lord, I'm not worried if you'd come home with me. You
just say the word and my servant will be healed. Just speak, Lord. Just speak to my servant and
they'll be healed. And our Lord said, that's a great
thing. Look at verse 23. But our Lord
answered her not a word. So she turned to the disciples.
They said, Lord, she's crying after us. He didn't answer her
word. She came pleading with Christ
to have mercy upon her and her daughter. The Lord didn't answer
her. He ignored her. This is the Lord Jesus Christ
description. Do you understand? This is the
true Christ description, the true God. Why should he hear
her? She lived all those years and
didn't call on Him. How old is this woman? 30, 40, 50? What was she doing
the rest of the time? Was she calling on the Lord?
No. Why should he? And that's what
religion has made people think. God's just going to drop everything
as soon as you call on Him. As soon as you get in trouble
and beg Him, He's going to drop everything. He's just dying to
save you. That's not the God of this Bible. Our Lord said, in fact, in Proverbs
1, one of the most... He said, I've called and you've
refused. I've spoken and you won't hear me. He said, so okay.
So you're going to call on me and I'm not going to answer you.
Isn't it? That's a frightening... Very
first chapter in Proverbs. Right off the bat, this is what
the Lord said. Yes he did. Now this underscores the fact,
this underlines, this glorifies God's saving, electing mercy
to you and me if we're calling, if we know we need mercy, if
we're coming, if we know that we need one thing and we keep
coming and keep coming. It says the Lord's mercies. Because
you're not finding this today. He didn't speak a word. He didn't
speak a word. He didn't have to. He didn't
have to. Why should he? Why should the
Lord have spoken to us? The Lord spoke to me one day,
and He continues to speak to me through His Word. Why should
He? I'm still a sinner. There are still times when I
go after other things. Forget God. You? Anybody? Why
should He answer us again? One reason. It's His mercy. It's for Christ's sake. He said in verse 24, I'm not
sent but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Tell her, and I believe He said
this to her, maybe through them first. I think they told her
this. And what our Lord is saying is,
I am only sent to the lost. I'm only sent to the lost. Who's
lost? I'm only sent to sheep. Sheep aren't this beautiful,
noble, smart, intelligent creatures that's so sweet and smell so
good. No, they're not. They're dumb,
ignorant, dirty, helpless, dependent creatures. That's what they are.
They have to be sheared, washed, dipped. They're created for the glory
of God, for the good of others, and they don't know it. They
don't know it. They need a shepherd. They need somebody to lead them
or they're going to perish, fall off a cliff, sheep. Israel. He said, I've come to call mine
elect. I only save my elect. That's what he said. I'm only
here to save my lost. I'm here at the Great Shepherd
to find them. I'm going to find every one of them, no doubt about
it. Sheep, not goats. I didn't come to save goats,
but sheep. Of Hasidic Israel, mine elect,
mine elect. Well, there you go again, Preacher.
No, I didn't say this, he did. So there's no need to cry for
mercy and help if they're elect. If they're elect, they're going
to be saved no matter what. Is that what you believe? Then
you don't know. You don't know this Bible and
you don't have the faith that this woman had. She said it's
true. Everything you said, that's the
truth. But she kept crying. That's tempting the Lord. That's
what that is. That's not faith. That's tempting
the Lord. Well, they're going to be all right if they're elect.
They're elect and be saved no matter what. I'm just going to
go on my way. No, that's not so. If they don't call, they're
not going to be saved. If they don't come to Christ,
they're not going to be saved. If they don't get in that pool
and confess Christ, they're not going to be saved. That's what
the Lord said. That's unbelief, and that's tempting
God to say that. Now she came. Verse 25, so she
came and did what? Worshipped Him. She worshipped Him. What is worship?
Here it is. Lord, help me. You're Lord over all. You're in absolute control of
everything and everyone, every person, place and thing. You're
Lord over all power that's given unto you in heaven and earth.
You have power to save or power to damn. It's your will, not
my will. It's not man's will, it's God's
will. You do according to your will. The armies of heaven and
the inhabitants of the earth, and none can stay in your hands.
You're Lord of lords and King of kings. Oh, Lord. Help. We're all helpless. We can't
help ourselves. We can't do anything for ourselves.
We're not independent. We're not moral creatures. We're not free moral agents. We're bound
by sin and the God of this world. We're captives. We're ignorant,
poor, blind, helpless. Lord, help. We need your help. There's nobody else can help
us. Help. And she said this, her prayer
from her heart is help me. I need help. And that's my prayer. Three words. Not a long prayer
like the Pharisees. She sure ain't praying to Mary.
She's praying to the Lord. Three words. And the Lord heard. Help. Me. Simon Peter is going
down under the waves. He's going to drown. And if the
Lord doesn't save us, we're going to drown in this world. We're
going to drown in perdition. This world is going to overcome
us. Peter cried three words. Lord, save. Salvations of the Lord. Me. Me. against thee and thee only have
I sinned. Help my daughter. And while you're
helping her, help me. Save me. Is that your prayer?
How about you? She came and worshipped him.
Like I said, the Lord hadn't done anything for her yet. He
hadn't answered her yet. He ignored her. But she worshipped
him. You know what worship is? It's
when the Lord, Job, the Lord had hedged him
about. The Lord had given him everything
he got. The Lord had given him a big
family, ten sons and daughters. Given him camels and asses and
sheep and houses and lands and everything he had the Lord gave
to him. Hedged him about. Protected him all those years.
Then the Lord started taking it all away. Taken it all away.
He sent enemies, but it wasn't them, it was the Lord. He'd taken
it all away. Until finally the Lord had taken everything from
Job. Everything. His family, his possessions,
and even his health. Took it all away. The Lord gave
it, and the Lord took it all away. And here's worship. Job said, the Lord gave it all
to me. And the Lord had taken it away.
Blessed be the name of the Lord. His wife didn't believe the Lord.
She was a heathen. And she said, just curse God
and die. What good does God do? He took everything away from
her. He said, you're talking like one of the heathen women.
She said, shall we not receive good from the hands of the Lord
as well as evil? I didn't deserve any of it and
God gave it to me. And He took it away and it's His. Lord, if
You save me or damn me, You're the Lord. If You save my child
or damn my child, You're the Lord. You gave them to me. It's
of the Lord's mercies if you say so. That's all I meant. That's worship. Lord help me. We don't tell visitors we're
so glad to see you. Although I am glad to see you. I want people to come and hear
this gospel. But it's not like we're doing God a favor. It's
not like God's hoping you'll come here. You better hope God
comes to you. You better hope God speaks to
you. And your child. He doesn't have
to. They don't deserve it. I don't
deserve it. Nobody in here deserves it. It's
of the Lord's mercies if we're not concerned. And he said, and I have to hurry,
he said, it's not meat, verse 26, not fitting, it's just not
right to take the children's bread and cast it to dogs. And the Lord's not smiling. He's
not looking at her with a pleasant looking smile on his face and
just, oh, so good to have you. I'm so glad you came. Won't you
accept me as your partner? She's trembling. It's not fit, it's not right
for me to give the children's bread, bread from heaven, the
Word of God, the precious food from God. Man did eat angels'
food. What did those sorry, no good
sons of Jacob do? We loathe this like bread. Okay,
gotcha, all right. I loathe you. The Son of God
came down. He's the bread from heaven, isn't
He? Isn't Christ the bread from heaven? Men didn't deserve for
Christ to come down here. Oh, Jesus wants to save you.
Jesus, He's standing outside your door. That's not the Christ
of Scripture. That's casting Him before swamps. Casting Him before dogs to trample
on Him. The blood of Christ. He died
for you. Won't you accept it? That's not what this book says. That's not the God of the Bible.
That's not the Jesus Christ of Scripture. That's not the truth.
And those who believe that don't know God and don't know Jesus
Christ. And it's casting this before
swine to tell them, God loves you. Jesus died for you. Why
don't you let Him do that? It's up to you. No, it's not
up to you. It's up to Him. This woman knew that. Have mercy
on me and my daughter. If you don't, you're just in
all you do. If you do, you get all the glory
for it. That's coming to God. Right. That's coming to the Christ of
Scripture. That's repentance. That's faith. That's what God
will hear. Everyone that comes that way,
God will hear them and save them. Yes, He will. It's not right to cast cry, offer
them Christ, Methodist religion. Offer them Christ. That's an
abomination. That's blasphemy. We don't offer
Jesus Christ to men. Jesus Christ of Scripture came
to this earth as a man to offer Himself to God as a burnt offering,
as a sacrifice. His blood was shed for the remission
of His people, not thrown out there for all people whether
they like it or not. Won't you accept the blood of
Christ? Would you do that with your son or daughter? Would you
kill them, shed their blood and say, anybody wants it can have
it. No! And that's not what God does either. He didn't throw that out there,
the precious blood of the Lamb, the precious Son of the Most
High God. Will you have Him? The question
is, will He have us? I'm telling you, this generation is going to hell
in a handbasket believing on Jesus! It's not the Jesus Christ
description. It's not! You're reading this
story with me, aren't you? It's not fit to give the children. You're a dog. That's what he
said to her. You're a dog. What would you
do if somebody called you that? A harlot. A thief. That's what the Scriptures calls
us. A whore. If you're not a man, you're a
whore. A maggot living on dead things. That's what the Scripture calls
us. Oh, it offends me. Then you ain't
going to receive mercy. He says to Jacob and all the
sons of Jacob, fear not thou worm Jacob. I've loved you. I sent my affection on you. I
sent my son to die for you. I've sent the truth to you. I've
made the truth known to you. I've had mercy on you, not Esau.
You! I chose you. You didn't choose
me. That's the truth in it. Worm. How do you know that God's
had mercy on you? Because you can sit and listen
to a man call you a dog and say, it's truth. Call you worms. That's right. What'd she say? What was her
answer? Verse 27, truth, Lord. didn't you? Truth. The fact that
you didn't answer me means you're right. You're just. You don't
have to. Yes, you've come to save on your elect. I know that's
the truth. That's what this book says, doesn't
it? He didn't come to call good people. Most people think they
are. He came to call sinners to repent.
That's the truth. That's the truth. Even the chief.
I'm the worst. It's true. It's just not fit.
I'm not fit to be called your child. I'm less than at least. I don't deserve mercy at your
hand. I'm just a dog. I'm just a dog. Truth. It's true. What do you say? Everything you've heard this
morning. Have I said anything contrary to this book? No, sir. Yet, dogs eat crumbs that fall from
the master's table. Now I can smile. You're not hearing people cry
for mercy and help and for their lost children. She's not apologizing
for her daughter. She's not excusing her daughter.
She's not saying she's a good girl. She's just lost her way.
She's lost. She's a rebel. She doesn't know God. She hates
God, just like I did. Didn't she? She's not apologizing.
She's not going to say, well, she's got a good GPA. She's got
a 4.3 GPA. And she's got scholarship offers.
She's lost. She's a rebel. She hates God.
She doesn't want to be here. She's not here. Right? Truth. Truth. She needs the truth. I need the
truth. Everything you say is the truth. You're the way, the
truth, and the life. Lord, would you please just give
us some crumbs. Just some crumbs of mercy. Crumbs
of hope. Some crumbs. A little mercy is
all I ask. I don't deserve any. I'm just
asking for a little, just a little bit. You know what, people, and
my time's up. If you ask for any mercy, it's
great mercy. If you're asking for any mercy
at the hands of the Lord, and not this and that and the other
and, you know, good big house and all this and health and wealth
and all that. If you're asking for mercy, it's
great mercy of the Lord. It's great mercy. You know, the
Lord doesn't show a little mercy. Listen to these scriptures. The
Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and
of great mercy. As the heaven is high above the
earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. Great faith asks for just a little mercy.
Little mercy. Great sinners are grateful for
just a little mercy. And he said in verse 28, O woman,
great is thy faith. Be it unto thee, even as thou
wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour. What do you think happened to
her daughter? Well, the woman went home and she noticed a change
in her. The Lord told her, the woman
told her about Christ. What do you think this daughter
did? She came to Christ. You know she did. Everybody did.
It was made whole. It was made whole from Him. She
came. What do you think the daughter
began asking for? Mercy. Be it unto thee as I will. So, come, cry, call, believe
her, confess. It's getting hard to find anybody
these days. Daughters, sons, anybody need
mercy? We all do. We all do. Okay. Stand with me. I'll dismiss
us in prayer.
