In Paul Mahan's sermon titled "A Blessed People," the primary theological topic revolves around the concept of being blessed as God's people, as articulated through Revelation 1:1-4. Mahan emphasizes that the blessing of reading, hearing, and keeping the words of Scripture signifies an advanced understanding of God's revelation through Jesus Christ. He supports his arguments by referencing various scriptures, notably Revelation 1:3, which pronounces a blessing on those who read and heed the prophetic words, and integrates passages from John and Galatians to underline the sovereignty of God in salvation and revelation. Mahan's central message highlights the importance of continual engagement with Scripture and the acknowledgment of Jesus as the sole path to knowing God, illustrating the Reformed doctrines of sola scriptura and the effectual call. The practical significance of this sermon lies in encouraging believers to recognize their blessedness in Christ and their need for Scripture amidst a chaotic world.

Key Quotes

“Blessed is he that readeth, they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein, for the time is at hand.”

“The whole universe is about Jesus Christ. That’s why God created it. That’s why God wrote this book.”

“Salvation is not an invitation. That word is not in the Bible. It’s by revelation. It’s by regeneration. You must be born again.”

“To you who believe, He is precious. This gospel is precious. And to keep means to do.”

What does the Bible say about being blessed?

The Bible emphasizes that those who read, hear, and keep the words of God's prophecy are blessed (Revelation 1:3).

In Revelation 1:3, it states, 'Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.' This verse highlights the importance of engaging with Scripture as a means of receiving God's blessings. To be blessed is not merely a superficial happiness but a deep-rooted assurance and peace that comes from being in a right relationship with God. The act of reading, hearing, and keeping God's Word invites the believer into a life of richness in faith and joy, granting insight and preparation for the future hope that God has promised.

Revelation 1:3

How do we know God's Word is true?

We know God's Word is true because it is the revelation of Jesus Christ, who embodies truth (John 14:6).

The certainty of God's Word being true stems from its divine origin and the manifestation of Christ within it. John 14:6 declares Jesus as 'the way, the truth, and the life,' affirming that all Scripture points to Him. Moreover, God reveals His truth through preachers and His Spirit, actively reminding and educating believers about His promises and character. The consistency and fulfillment of biblical prophecies and the transformative power of the Word in believers' lives further attest to its truthfulness. When one encounters the Scriptures led by the Holy Spirit, the truth of God becomes evident, deeply affecting one's life and faith.

John 14:6

Why is keeping God's commandments important for Christians?

Keeping God's commandments is essential as it reflects our love for Him and ensures we are truly His disciples (John 14:15).

In John 14:15, Jesus states, 'If you love me, keep my commandments.' This emphasizes that obedience is a natural expression of our love for Christ. Keeping God's commandments not only affirms our faith but also ensures that we live within the bounds of His blessing and protection. It is a way of demonstrating our allegiance to Him amidst a world filled with distractions and contrary ideologies. By adhering to His Word, we demonstrate that we are His followers, reflecting His heart and will. Furthermore, keeping God's commandments leads to a life characterized by peace, joy, and spiritual growth, as we walk in accordance with His will.

John 14:15

How does salvation come according to the Bible?

Salvation comes entirely from the Lord and is a gift of grace, not based on human effort (Jonah 2:9).

The Bible makes it clear that salvation is a work of God alone. As stated in Jonah 2:9, 'Salvation is of the Lord.' This means that from beginning to end, salvation is a divine act initiated by God, encompassing His choosing, calling, redeeming, and glorifying His people. It is not something we can earn or deserve through our actions; rather, it is gifted by God's grace. Ephesians 2:8-9 also articulates this principle by emphasizing that we are saved by grace through faith, and not of ourselves. This truth diminishes any notion of boasting in our human efforts and instills a profound sense of humility and gratitude for the unmerited favor of God.

Jonah 2:9, Ephesians 2:8-9

Why is hearing God's Word essential for Christians?

Hearing God's Word is essential because it fosters faith and a deeper relationship with God (Romans 10:17).

Romans 10:17 teaches that 'faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.' This underlines the significance of being attentive to God's voice through Scripture and preaching. As believers, regular engagement with God's Word enables us to grow in faith, understand His character, and align our lives with His will. Hearing the truth of the Gospel empowers us, as it confirms our assurance in Christ and equips us to withstand doubts and challenges. Additionally, when we physically gather to hear God's Word preached, we are participating in the communal aspect of faith, where encouragement and accountability flourish. Thus, hearing God's Word is pivotal in the life of a Christian.

I hope you were glad we read
both of those psalms. You know, I was just putting in the information on
my phone about Mixler. And, you know, things pop up
on your phone that you don't want to see. They just do. We
were just bombarded with stuff, the world. And the show, it said
bombing Iran and nuclear war and all this sort of thing. I
thought, we need to read Psalm 91 right now. Right now. I was sitting, turn with me to
Revelation 1. I read those because our text
is only four verses long. I was sitting yesterday, I believe
it was, or the day before. No, yesterday. Friday, I started
working on another message and got the rough draft finished.
And then yesterday morning, I just went out to sit in the sun, sitting
there in a plastic chair facing the sun. It's the east that way.
I had to face the sun and counting my blessings I asked the Lord,
speak to me. The message I was preparing was
not really speaking to me. I said, Lord, speak to me. I
need you to speak to me and I need you to speak through me to God's
people. Speak to me, please. And he,
the Lord, these words came to my mind. Verse 3, blessed. Blessed is he that readeth, they
that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are
written therein, for the time is at hand. The time is sure. That was such a blessing to me.
It blessed me and I ran inside. By the way, Ruth and Grace, I
thought about Solomon sat on an ivory throne covered with
gold, and there were lions on both sides of him. A lion here,
a lion there. Well, I was sitting in my plastic chair, and Ruth
and Grace were on both sides of me. Solomon was not more blessed
than me. No way. I ran inside and started
writing some things down. How blessed. Oh, how blessed. The title is A Blessed People,
but we looked at this before. We've looked several times at
it. Blessed people, blessed book, and blessed Lord. We're so blessed. We're so blessed. What we read,
wasn't that a blessing? Such a blessing. The time is
at hand for us, for God's blessed people, the time when Christ
shall come for his people to gather us in our eternal home. The day of the Lord is near.
Time is at hand. The time, Paul said, the time
of my departure is at hand. For some of you in your 80s,
3 score and 10, 4 score, your time of your departure is very
near. Lift up your head, your redemption
draweth nigh. The time where there'll be no
more time. The time, the end of time, the
end of sin, the end of pain, the end of suffering, the end
of sorrow, the end of death. The time of the beginning of
everlasting life, life more abundant. A joy unspeakable for the Lord. Who wouldn't look forward to
that? except people of the world. I believe. What I just told you,
I believe. No, like Peter said, we believe. No, we're sure. I know. We know. Why? Why do we know
these things are so? We've read it. We've heard it. The Lord has spoken that. And
He keeps speaking that. Doesn't it? The Lord keeps telling
us, keeps reminding us. What's Malachi 3.16? I told you
you'd remember that. Those that spake of the Lord
often, a book of remembrance was written for them that feared
the Lord. He keeps reminding us, doesn't
he? Who He is, and our interest in Him, our salvation in Him,
and what we have to look forward to. He keeps reminding us. Hmm,
we're so blessed. Keeps speaking to us. He that
keepeth Israel keeps speaking to them. He that keepeth Israel,
Scripture says, keepeth truth for them that love. Keeps telling
them the truth in a world full of lies. Keep us in perfect peace. He
that keepeth Israel will keep them in perfect peace. How? Whose mind is stayed on thee.
How? Right here. Blessed is he that
readeth. If you read this, and whatever
else you read, it won't bother you so much. Right? If you hear
Him speak to you, if He speaks to you, then you won't hear the
lies men are telling you. It's Satan, the God of this world,
feeding the world. You won't hear them. If you lay
hold of this, keep. Don't let these things slip.
He'll keep you in perfect peace no matter what comes. Are you
with me? Don't miss this. Are you with
me now? Don't miss this or you'll miss
the blessing. Whatever else, forget it. Just
for a little while, okay? But these things remember. This
is the very last book, the Revelation. It's actually the last chapter
of the book. There's 66 chapters in the book,
the Bible. They're all one book, old and
new. 66 book, but really it's just
66 chapters. This is the last chapter, the
revelation. What's it all about? How does
everything begin? In the beginning, God. Who? God, the Creator. Who? Jesus
Christ, by whom all things were created, without whom nothing
that was created was created. Genesis 1, John 1, Revelation
1. Do you understand? Verse 1, the
revelation of Jesus Christ. The whole book is, if God reveals
Him to you. The revelation, there's only
one, the revelation, which God gave, verse 1, unto him, to Christ,
to show unto his servant. Which God gave, the Lord gave
the word, and great was the company that published it. He gave unto
his son, unto him, unto Christ, to show his servant, to show
all things. Our Lord Jesus Christ said this,
no man knoweth the Son, but the Father. When He came, nobody
knew who He was. But the Father did. The Father
said out loud, This is My beloved Son. Unto the Son, He saith,
Thy throne, O God, is forever. This is God. Man says it can't
be. God says it is. No man knoweth
the Son, but the Father, neither knoweth any man the Father, but
the Son, or save the Son. and He to whom He will reveal. You can't know God except through
Jesus Christ. The Muslims don't know God. The
Hindus don't know God. The Buddhists don't know God.
The Jews don't know God. Right? Do you know God? Why? He's revealed Him to you. It's
the revelation of Jesus Christ. Listen, to show unto his servants
these things. Let me just read for you. I've
done all the searching and looking, and I'll do all the turning for
you. Just listen. That's all you've got to do.
Open your mouth wide. Open your ear, and I'll fill
it up. All right? To show unto his servant things that must
shortly come to pass. Listen to John 14, 10. He said, Believest thou not that I am
in the Father, and the Father in me? The words I speak unto
you I speak not of myself, but the Father that dwelleth in me.
He doeth the works. He's telling us that He's God.
Listen, verse 22, Judas said, Well, how will you manifest yourself
unto us and not to the world? He said, If a man love me, he'll
keep my words. And my Father will love him.
God doesn't love anybody that doesn't love His Son, doesn't
know His Son. He won't even hear them. They
say, well, come unto Him, make our abode with Him. He that dwelleth
in the secret place. Who's that? That's Christ. He
that loveth me not keepeth not my savings. Which you hear is
not mine, but the Father which sent me. Listen. Listen to this. He said, the
Comforter though, is a Holy Ghost whom the Father will send in
my name. He'll teach you all things. He'll
bring all things to remembrance, whatever I have said. And the
next line, John, is peace I can leave with you. Keep him in perfect
peace. His mind has stayed on me. He
stayed upon Jehovah. Who? God. Who? Jesus Christ. They weren't
the same, these three boys. Listen to John 15, the Lord speaking
to His disciple, the things which He had given to His servant.
He said, I call you not servants, for the servant knoweth not what
his Lord is doing. I have called you friend, for
all things I have heard of my Father I have made known to you.
Are you listening? which God gave
to him to show his servants. If he showed you these things,
you're not only his servants, you're his friend. Listen, John
16. This is what he said. John 16. When the Spirit of truth is come,
he'll guide you in all truth. He shall not speak of himself,
but whatever he shall hear, shall he speak. He will show you things
to come. We just read that. He'll glorify
me. He'll receive of mine and show
it unto you. All things that the Father hath
are mine. Therefore, said I, he'll take
mine and show it to you. Oh, we're so blessed. Which God gave to him to show
his servants things Are you reading verse 1? Which must shortly come
to pass. And he sent and signified it
by his angel and his servant John. Things that must shortly
come to pass. Things that must come to pass. Our Lord said heaven and earth
shall pass away, but not one word of mine shall fail. All things written have, are,
and shall come to pass. Look at verse 19. Write the things
which thou hast seen, things which are, and things which shall
be hereafter. You see that? What things? John, what things? Well, what's
John going to write about? Oh, Armageddon. Our Lord never mentioned that. In Matthew 24 and 25, when he
talked about the end, he never mentioned a war. He said there
would be wars and rumors of war, but he didn't mention one big
war, everybody's fighting over there. No, no, no, no, no. He
said, if my kingdom were of this world, there would be a battle
already, a fight, but it's not. The fight is over. Didn't he
say that long before? The battle's over and it wasn't
yours. Whose was it? It was the Lord's. Well, what
happened? He obtained the victory. Things which must shortly come
to pass. What thing? I'll read it for
you. In Luke 24, the disciples were
walking along, and Jesus had been crucified and buried, and
they thought He was dead, and they were talking about all these
things. They were so sad. We thought
He would give the kingdom to Israel. He'd redeem Israel. And
they were so sad. They thought that He was dead.
He's not dead. He's standing right in front
of them. They couldn't see him. They said, why are you sad? And
we thought that, you know, he would redeem Israel. He said,
oh fools and slow of hearts to believe all that the prophets
have said. Ought not Christ to have suffered
these things to enter into His glory? And beginning at Moses
and all the prophets, He expanded unto them in all the Scriptures
the things concerning Himself." This is all about me, Christ
said. The whole book, in the volume
of the book, it's written of me, Christ said. Lo, I am come. And he went and left. He's coming
again. This whole universe is about
Jesus Christ. That's why God created it. That's
why God wrote this book. That's why God revealed it unto
you to show you that in Him we live and move and have our being.
That Christ is all you need. All your salvation. All your
peace. All your rest. All your joy. All your happiness.
All the blessings of God. All the fullness of God. Are
you with me? If you don't hear anything at all, hear this. Christ
is all. He's all this book. The world
over is looking at this and looking at that. He said of His people,
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of the faith. He's
the beginning, He's the end, and all things in between. Christ
is all. All things must be fulfilled
concerning Christ and Him crucified. Sin in the beginning. Sin in
the beginning. A promise of a woman's seed.
Here in the last days, He came. He conquered. He crucified. He
conquered. He arose. He ascended. He sat
down. Work finished. Blood before the
Lord on the mercy seat. Just waiting for Him to come
again. The revelation. Not revelations,
the revelation. When somebody says revelations,
it reveals they don't know what this means. The revelation is the book of
Jesus Christ which God gave to him to show his servants, his
prophets, his apostles, his evangelists, pastors and teachers, the things
of Christ. which no man knoweth, except
him to whom the Son will reveal." Did you hear all that? I'm going
to repeat everything I just said. That's all we're doing, isn't
it? Just repeating, just repeating, reminding, reminding. Look at
verse 1. It says, He sent and signified
these things by His angel unto His servant John. You remember
Back in the old days, we'd send a package. You'd say it was signed,
and then what? Sealed, and then what? Delivered. What happened to that package?
Well, I signed it. Well, it's sealed. Was it delivered? Yes. This is the faith delivered
to the saints. Signed by God, a covenant made
by God, Father, concerning His Son, the salvation of the people.
Seal! Isaiah 8, John. Seal this. Daniel. Among my servants. Seal that. Open the seals. And start revealing to them.
What? Oh look, Israel is going to build a temple. So what? The temple's been already built.
Christ is the foundation. Christ is the fullness. Christ
is the top of the stone. Christ is our temple. There's
no temple in heaven. And he's not going to go back
to a temple and why would he do that? He already made one
sacrifice forever and took it into the presence of God and
put it on the mercy seat. God accepted it. That's it. No
more sacrifice. He's sent and signified by his
angel to his servant John. John had to hear this through
a preacher. Every person who has the truth
revealed to them has it revealed through a preacher. You understand? Who was this angel? And we don't
know, over in chapter 19, John was so thankful that the Lord
sent this angel and revealed that he bowed down to him. And
the angel said, no, no, no, I'm one of your brothers, the prophets.
Was it Samuel? The Lord doesn't give his name,
does he, Cal? Samuel? Was it Moses? Was it Elijah? It doesn't matter. What matters
is what he was saying. He said, worship God. Worship
me. Thank God that He sent me to
tell you the truth of Christ. The gospel delivered to the saint.
Turn with me to Galatians 1, and this is the only place that
I'll have you turn. Galatians 1, okay? Galatians
chapter 1. When is someone saved? How is someone saved? When is
someone saved? And how is someone saved? Most of you in here know Jonah
2, 9, don't you? Salvations of the Lord. Brother
David Edmonds said, what's after that line? Salvations of the
Lord. What's after that? He said, a period. That means that's it. and say
there's no conjunction, and, but, no, no. It's I, the Lord,
period. From beginning to end. From the
choosing, to the calling, to the redeeming, to the justifying,
to the giving of faith, the giving of repentance, to the keeping,
to the final glorification. Accepting and bringing in the
glory. It's I, the Lord. In Exodus 3, he said, I've heard
my people, I've come down. I have come down to bring them
out, to bring them up, to bring them in to the promised land.
Who did it? The Lord did it. All of it. From
start to finish. Salvation is of the Lord. Salvation
is to know that. That is to know the only true
God. And Jesus Christ whom he sent.
That's John 17 3. You know that. Our children know
that. Our Lord said this is life eternal.
You want a definition of life eternal? Jesus Christ tells it. This is life eternal. That they
might know Thee, the only true God. Meaning there are false
gods. And Jesus Christ whom He sent. Sent? Sent to do something. Did He do it? Well, if God is
God, then whatever He sent Christ to do, He did it. This is eternal
life. Salvation is a revelation. Salvation is a revelation of
who God really is. He tells all His people, they
finally hear, through a preacher mind you, through the reading
and hearing of God's Word, I am God, there's nothing else. All sorts of imaginations of
God's this way and God's that way. God wants to, God did, God,
God, God. No, it's not God. Until finally
you hear the truth that God sends his angel and his preacher said,
tell them I am God. And you find out God is God.
That's eternal life. And you find out who Christ is.
It's a revelation. When is someone saved? When they
decide. When they accept Jesus. when
they let him be Lord of their life? Those things are not in
this book. You know that, don't you? They
are not to be found in this book. Salvation is not an invitation. That word is not in the Bible. Is it? You've read it. Blessed
are you, you read, you know. People say, well, my Bible doesn't
say that. Oh, yes, it does. You read it. The invitation,
it's not by invitation, it's by revelation. It's by regeneration. You must be born again. Nicodemus
didn't know God, he thought he did. Didn't know Jesus Christ,
standing right in front of him. Didn't know the truth. Our Lord
said, you're a teacher in Israel and you don't know these things?
No, you don't. Woman at the well, she, well, I'm a Methodist, you're
a Jew. He said, you don't know what
you believe. We know what we believe. Salvation is of the
Jew. Salvation is of the Lord. And
as a man say, well, Paul, Saul of Tarsus, was a Pharisee, a
Hebrew of Hebrew, a preacher. And look at verse 13, Galatians
1. You've heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion,
how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, wasted, I
profited in the Jews' religion. above many of my equals, exceedingly
zealous of the traditions of my father." He said, I knew the
law. I kept the law. He said, I was blameless. You
can't possibly know God and think you're blameless. Can you? He did. He thought he was blameless. But when was Saul of Tarsus safe?
but when it pleased God. It's not when we get good and
ready. It's not when we accept Him.
Not when we do anything. When it pleases God. It won't
happen unless it pleases God. Unless God is pleased to do it.
Because whatsoever the Lord is pleased to do, that did He in
earth and in heaven. when it pleased God, who separated
me from my mother's womb." The Lord says, I kill, I make alive. You live in Him, you live and
move and have your being. You live because God said live,
the first time. And so it is the second time,
born again. You will be born when God says
so. You were born the first time
when God said so. Right? That's right. You will
die when God says so. The first time. Hopefully the
second time. Dead on the cross. Well, he says,
when it pleased God who separated me from my mother's womb. He
not only separates you from your mother's womb the first time,
but when Christ is revealed in you and to you, He separates
you from your family again. He must do this. We're not born
of blood or the will of the flesh or the will of man. He said,
I've come to separate a man from his father, a woman from her
mother, sisters and brothers and children. This is the gospel
that separates. That's a fact. Has it not? If
he's revealed the truth to you, if he's revealed the truth in
you, if he's revealed himself to you, then your family finds
out, we have different gods. We have a different Jesus. That's
a fact. And he'll separate you from your
mother. He'll wean you from your family. Again. Again. Now look at this. And this wasn't my text, but
it is. When it pleased God who separated me from my mother's
womb and called me by His grace, whom He did foreknow, He did
predestinate, whom He predestinated. What? Say it louder. Who called who? He calls us. But preacher, whosoever
shall call. That's right. Where did that
come from? Where's that written the first time? Well, Romans
10, 13. Nope. Joel 2, 32. As many as the Lord our God shall
call, they will call. If He doesn't call, they're not
going to call. And you know it so, don't you, sister? I know
it so. I wasn't calling. Paul wasn't
calling. Saul wasn't calling. What happened?
The Lord called him. Saul. Lazarus wasn't calling. He's
dead. What happened? The Lord called him. Lazarus!
Come forth. He wouldn't have come if the
Lord hadn't called him. You know what's happening. This
is the God of the Bible. This is the truth of the Scripture.
This is your salvation. This is the only salvation there
is. Read on. Called me by His grace to reveal
His Son in me. to reveal His Son, not to me,
in me. Let the heart man believe that,
not to the head. Somebody convinces you in your
head, God's sovereign, the devils believe that in truth. Jesus
died for His people for, you know, a particular redemption
and Tulip, convinced of all that. Early on, I knew it. That's true. As a young man, I didn't know
Christ. He's got to speak to you, personally. And reveal His Son in you. Christ in you. The hope of the
Lord. Faith is from the heart, not
the head. Heart. He said, I'm going to give them
a new heart. With the heart, man believeth unto righteousness.
What's righteousness? You know in your heart. You don't
have any. You know in your heart. He's
the only one. It's him. First. Oh man. I had, I was going to start.
All right. Go back to our text. I got to
hurry. I don't have to hurry, but I'm
going to. Oh man. Why are we in such a
hurry? You say, I'm not in a hurry. You are. I know it. But I can't
preach all day. Paul did that. It says in verse 2, John bore
record. He bear record of what? The Word
of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. That's what the preacher does.
He bears witness, bears testimony of Jesus Christ, the Word of
God. and the testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. That's
what servants do. That's all they do. That's it. The testimony. Verse 9. He said, I am your companion
in tribulation, the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, and
I have called Patmos for the word of God, for the testimony
of Jesus Christ. See that? I testify these things. And I was going to start in John
1 and go all the way through chapter 14 and show you the testimony
of Jesus Christ. What all He said to His disciples
about Himself. I wish we had time. John the Baptist said, The Son,
He hath declared Him. Our Lord said, I am He. I'm the bread of life. Moses
didn't give you the bread. My father gave the bread. I'm
the bread of life. Our Lord said, if you believe
not that I am he, you'll die on your sin. He said, I am the
good shepherd. I lay down my life for the sheep.
This is the Father's will that sent me. Everyone that seeth
the Son believeth on him. I have everlasting life. He said,
I will raise him up. I will. That's who I am. That's
what I do. That's why I came. John 14, he
said to his disciples, you believe in God, believe also in me. Didn't
he? Thomas said, show us the Father.
He said, Thomas, have I been so long time with you? And you
don't understand. He that hath seen the Father,
seen me, hath seen the Father. I am the Father of one. The Pharisees
said, you're not 50 years old. Have you seen Abraham? He said,
before Abraham was, I am. This is his testimony of himself. He said, John said, in 1 John,
he said, the Father bears witness of the Son. The Holy Spirit bears
witness of the Son. The testimony of Jesus Christ.
He said to His disciples, I am the way. I am the truth. The whole truth. Nothing but
the truth. I am the life. He that hath the Son. This is
the record. This is the testimony. This is
what's written through the whole book. He that hath the Son hath
life. Salvation which God promised
to them in Christ. And he that hath the Son hath
life. This is a testimony. This is
the gospel of Jesus Christ. The revelation which God gave
to him, to his people, sent and preached and believed on in the
world. All right, now to my text. That's
the introduction. Verse 3. Blessed. How blessed is he that readeth, they that hear the words of this
prophecy, and keep those things that are written therein. The
time is at hand. Most blessed. The blessing above
all blessings, people. He that hath the Son hath life.
A knowledge of the Son, a belief, faith in the Son, a love for
the Son, the spirit of his son, lead and guide and direct and
take the things of God. All right, let's look at these
three things very briefly. Okay. Blessed is he that readeth
the words of this book. Blessed is he that readeth. Were
you blessed when we read Psalm 90? Were you blessed? Were you
really blessed? Were you? Do you read God's Word at home? Do you know how few people actually
read the Word of God? Do you know how few people now
have actually the actual Word of God? There's so many perversions.
So many different translations. That the offense of the cross
is gone. They've even taken out all reference to gender in the Bible. They don't call
Him the Son of God. They call Him the Child of God. I'll tell
you the truth. Do you read this book? Do you? You know, the fact that we actually
have a copy of this book is the most blessed gift a human being
could have. Do you understand a little bit
of what we have here in our possession? We have the Word of God! Not
man. Truth! Oh, I need to holler that, don't
we? This whole world needs to hear this. This is the truth. Nothing else is. God who cannot
lie. We have a copy. Do you read it?
Oh my. Continually. Do you continually
read it? Out of faith. You believe it.
You wouldn't be reading it if you didn't believe it. Well,
I take it back. Some people do. So they can say
they read it. So they can memorize verses and
tell people how religious they are. Why do you read it? Because you need it. Hunger, blessed are they that
hunger and thirst after righteousness. Where's that found? In this book. It's found in Christ. Blessed are they that read, actually
read, blessed are they that read it as God's Word, as words from
one whom you love, as words from your Father. Do you? Do you read it? Lord, speak to
me. I need you to speak to me. Lord, I'm reading it. I'm not
getting anything. Please, this is your Word. This is your voice.
Psalm 29, the voice of the Lord breaks the cedars, makes the
hinds to calve. Lord, my child doesn't know you.
Speak! This is your Word. This is your
power. Speak! Do you read it like that? Lord,
speak to me. I don't want to leave without
you telling me something. Blessed are they that read. And
when you read it, do you see Christ in it? When you read this
book, does Christ jump out at you? Huh? There was a time He
didn't. You didn't even know Him. You
knew about the ark of Noah, but you didn't know that was Christ.
You knew about creation, but you didn't know that was Christ.
You knew about the Red Sea, but you didn't know that was Christ.
But now you do. How do you know it? Revealed.
to you, in you. And now you read this book. Don't
you love reading the old types? And now you see Christ in them. Don't you? Not your head. Revelation, oh my. You
read, you see these pictures, and you rejoice. We look at these
pictures over and over and over and over again and rejoice. Why? Because we love our God, we love
His Christ, we love the truth, and we can't get tired of it.
You still look at pictures of your family, although they're
grown? Do you? Yeah, you do. Why? Because you
love them. You never grow tired of them.
Blessed is he that readeth. Blessed are they that hear the
words of this prophecy. The testimony of Jesus is the
spirit of prophecy. This prophecy is all about him,
the revelation of him. Right? Blessed are they that
hear the Lord sent Philip, how many miles was it? Hundreds of
miles out into the desert for one man, an Ethiopian eunuch. And that man was reading. Oh,
blessed is he that read. He was reading Isaiah, but he
did not know what he was reading. He didn't see Christ. And you had to. You did it too,
didn't you? Didn't you, Robert? You read
and read and you heard. Didn't hear anything. Didn't hear anything.
But God sent a preacher. And Philip said, do you understand
what you're reading? And the Ethiopian eunuch, here's
a seeker, here's an asker, here's one that's knocking. He said,
how can I? Except some man show me. Would you get up in my chariot
and show me? I'm reading this and I don't
understand. Is the prophet speaking of himself or some other man?
And he preached, another man. And at Enoch, I say, I say, Christ,
that's the report. And now I believe. You grow up
as a tender plant, a root out of dry ground. The Lord laid
on him the iniquity of Esau. By his stripes were healed, wounded
and bruised, but by his stripes were healed. The transgression
of his people was he smitten. It pleased the Lord to bruise
him. He'll see the travail of his soul be satisfied. By his
knowledge shall my righteous servant just I see. That's all
Christ, isn't it, Philip? It sure is. And Philip said,
My job's done. He left. Hear. You're so blessed to hear.
Hear the Word, the Word of Truth. You've been given ears to hear.
Most don't. They have ears they don't hear.
Most don't want to hear. When you got up and drove here
today, do this from now on. When you
drive to the house of God with a desire to hear the Word of
God, the truth of God, which most people don't want to hear,
which most people don't like, and if they sit and hear it,
they get mad at it. But you come here out of desire, out of love,
out of a need to hear it. When you drive by house after
house after house, and people are sitting in those houses,
they're out there mowing their lawn, you thank God to high heaven.
You thank God in high heaven that He's given you a heart,
a desire, a hunger to read His Word, to come hear a man proclaim
His Word, and it rejoices your heart. You thank God. You've
been blessed above all your neighbors. Blessed is he that heareth. Paul said to Timothy, preach
the word, Timothy. He said, there's going to be
a time when men will turn away their ears from the truth unto
fables. Preach it, Timothy. I have a
people. I have a sheep. They'll hear
my voice. Blessed are their ears they hear.
Blessed are their eyes they see. Blessed, blessed, blessed, blessed. So blessed. How many times have
you heard this thing? Blessed he that heareth. You
notice the tense, the verb heareth, readeth, continual. Heareth and
heareth continually. Continually, never tire. What
are these? The people got tired in John
6. They said, these are hard things.
We don't want to hear these anymore. And our Lord said to the disciples,
will you go away? They said, no, these are words
of life. We want to hear it again. The people at Antioch said, would
you come preach these again? And again and again and again. Blessed are they that heareth,
heareth, heareth, heareth continually with desire. Heareth, this is
the Lord's voice. Do you understand me? Once He
calls you, He never quits calling you. Do you understand that?
How blessed you are once He calls you? The gifts and calling of
God are without repentance. Take it back. I didn't mean to
call you. Oh yes, He did. And once he calls you, you keep
coming. What happened? You keep coming. You keep coming. There you are. Some of you are still here. Same
old voice. It's old now. It was young at
first. Same message. Same texts, same
truth, same gospel. You keep coming. You keep coming.
Because it's not my voice, it's His. Come. Come unto me. And heareth and heareth and heareth. This is how you know. This is
how you know you belong unto Him. You've been blessed to read
it. You've been blessed to hear it. He's given you ears to hear.
And you'll be blessed to keep hearing it. There's times you
feel dead. You feel lost. You feel lifeless, and yet you
come back, and what happens? You hear. And you think, I'm not dead after
all. Isn't it true? Yes, it is. The world has to keep hearing
and telling some new thing, don't they? What do you want to hear? Give me the old path and the
good path. And blessed is he that keepeth
these things. The time is at hand. The time
is short. He's at the door. That keepeth.
Keep means to retain. It means to retain. It means
to remember. Not forget. You know, the Lord will not let
you forget. He won't let you forget. When you do forget, He reminds
you. He's got a book, he reminds you, and he's got a preacher.
Peter said, I'm going to have you always in remembrance of
these things. Stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance.
What, Peter? Not what, who! We dwell in Him, and live in
Him, and live because of Him, and by Him, and through Him,
and to Him, for Him, all things, all things. It's all about Him.
You're about Him. That's why He came. I'm not going
to let you forget. You're going to keep these things
in mind. Remember, to keep means to hold
to. To keep means to lay hold of
and don't want to let go. Don't want to lose. Wouldn't
sell it for anything. Things you want to keep, somebody
can offer you the world. You say, nope, can't have it.
What would you give in exchange for the gospel? God's people give everything
for the gospel. They forsake everything. Christ
is the prize. He's their prize possession.
He is their possession and He is precious then. Things you
keep are things that are precious to you. To you who believe, He
is precious. This gospel is precious. And
to keep means to do. It means to do. You want to do,
God's people do what He said. They came to him and said, what
must we do to work the works of God? He said, here's the work
of God. Which is you believe on Him whom He has sent. The Him that doeth the truth. We walk by faith, don't we? In
who? In Him. Okay. I quit. Until we come back again. What's
the number, John? It's two what?
