Operation, and their proclaim,
My God, how great thou art! Then sings my soul, my Saviour
God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art Then sings
my soul, my Saviour God to Thee How great Thou art Alright, go back with me to the
book of Exodus chapter 6. Exodus chapter 6. We have been
studying through this book and I need to remind everyone, especially
those or tell those who have not been
in on this, the story of the exodus. Exodus means going out,
bringing out, departure. The story of the exodus of Israel
out of Egypt. All of that happened. The very
reason for this story, the reason for the existence of the Israelites
is as a picture or type of God's salvation of his people, all
his people everywhere who are called Israel. All of God's elect
are called Israel, spiritual Israel. Now, I hope you will
give me your undivided attention. because this is difficult to
deal with. Some of it is talking about covenant
and so forth. And I would say to you what Paul
said to the Hebrews when he was talking about these things, covenant. He said, you cannot be dull of
hearing and understand this. These are things hard to utter,
so I hope you'll pay close attention. And above all, I hope the Lord
will make it understandable. Now, do you remember, some of
you that were in on chapter 5, how God sent the word to Pharaoh
to let his people go. God sent the word through Moses
and Aaron to Pharaoh to let my people go. Yet, Pharaoh refused.
Pharaoh refused to do so, and we saw how that he did exactly
what God said he would do, and what God purposed that he would
do. Pharaoh did what he wanted to do, and what he willed to
do, and did not do what he did not want to do, but he did what
God purposed for him to do. Now, that's a fact. That's a
fact. That's how God operates now.
Now, that's the God of the Bible. Well, he told Pharaoh to let
his people go, and Pharaoh refused and only made things harder on
the people. He made it tougher on them. And
look at Moses' complaint down in chapter 5. Look at chapter
5, verses 22 and 23. Moses came back after speaking
to Pharaoh. Pharaoh said, I will not let
them go. And Moses returned unto the Lord and said, Lord, wherefore,
or why hast thou so evil and treated this people? Why is it
that thou hast sent me? For since I came to Pharaoh to
speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people, neither
hast thou delivered thy people at all. Now Moses is not arguing
with the Lord, Moses is not complaining, but he simply has a confused,
he's confused. Like all of us are about many
things that happen in this world. We're flesh and blood. We don't
know what God knows. We don't see what God sees. And
we have honest, sincere confusion at times, don't we? We say, Lord,
why are you doing this? Right? Everyone is honest. Lord,
why? Why? Why are you doing this?
It's not murmuring against God, but simply asking. Had to confuse
my ear. Am I the only one? All right. Lord, why? Since you have said
you would deliver your people, ever since you said you would
deliver your people, things are rougher on them. I don't understand it. You said
you were going to save them and deliver them and And the promised
land and all that, and ever since we heard this story of deliverance,
things are worse than they've ever been before. You who have heard the gospel,
whom God has revealed himself to, this great salvation, tell
me, is it not so? That things were just fine as
long as you didn't know you were in bondage. Things were just
fine as long as you were in Egypt and everybody left you alone
and you were in bondage and didn't know it. Under the willing captivity,
the scripture says, of Satan himself. And everything was just
fine. Until you heard the message of
deliverance. And then everything got bad. Then all your troubles started.
Is it not so with you? Certainly it is. Why is that?
Because the God of this world, whom I just mentioned, Satan,
who Scripture says holds captive at his will the people of this
world, once he hears that one of his own is being delivered,
he's not going to let go of them easily. No, sir. He's going to do all he can to
retain these Jews. Pharaoh said, I'm not going to
let them go. And God said, yes, you are. And Moses said, but
Lord, when? Why? Just hang on, Moses. Look at chapter 6. Now the Lord
said unto Moses, now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh. Now you're going to see when
things get real bad. Then and then only are you going
to see the sovereign salvation of your God. Not until then. Not until things are hopeless.
Not until you're in absolute despair of everything are you
going to see the salvation that's of the Lord. Now you're going
to see, God says, things real bad, things hopeless. Your captor
is not going to let you go, is he? No, he's not. Yes, he is. Look at this, verse 1, "...with
a strong hand shall he let them go, with a strong hand shall
he drive them out of his land." You know, after God reveals Himself
to us, we begin to see His hand in everything. Right? After God reveals Himself
to His people, who He is? Sovereign God. reigning and ruling
among the armies of heaven and among the inhabitants of the
earth, doing as he will, with whom he will, because he will.
Once we see that, we see his hand in everything. We see that
truly all things are in his hand. Even the king's heart, the proverb
says, is in the hands of the Lord, the heart of the is in
the hands of the Lord. As the rivers of water, he turneth
it with us wherever he will." Now, that's the God of this book.
That's our God. Now, God reveals himself to Moses. Stay with me now. Have your attention. God reveals himself to Moses
and to his people by a name by which he's going to be known
from then on. and called by them and them only. Even today, the Jews are the
only ones that call their God Jehovah. Okay? It's not just these so-called
Jehovah's Witnesses who are not Jehovah's Witnesses. They're
Russellites, a follower of a fellow named Charles Russell. I am a Jehovah's Witness. You
are, those of you who know the true God, a witness of the true
Jehovah. Now listen very carefully, okay?
God reveals himself to Moses and his people by a name which
they and they only know him and will call him by that name from
then on. Read it with me. Verses 2 and
3. God spake to Moses and said unto him, I am the Lord. That's Jehovah. I appeared unto
Abraham, unto Isaac, unto Jacob by the name of God Almighty.
But by my name, Jehovah, was I not known to them? Now, remember this. This is the
name that God's people, God's chosen people, will know him
as and call him so. Are you with me? He will be tested
after this is over. Jehovah means The self-existent one. I'm not trying to be smart, but
this is what this means. The self-existent one. I mean
the one who exists in and of and by himself. Independent of anybody or anything. Totally independent. There's
nothing, nothing, nothing and no one that is independent on
this earth. But God is. This is so important. This is the heart and soul of
the truth. Every creature, every human being is totally dependent
upon the independent one. The name Jehovah means independent,
not needing anything or anyone or dependent on anybody or anything
for anything. The name Jehovah means eternal.
Having no eternal doesn't mean just going to last forever. It
means had no beginning. No beginning. Nothing and everything
and everyone had a beginning. Even the angels, the devil, everybody
and everything had a beginning. And somebody created it. But
God had no beginning. And no end. The reason he calls
himself I am, not I was, not I shall be, I am, means he's
ever, always eternal. He won't, the same won't. Now,
as I said, everything and everyone is dependent upon something. Now, Abraham, God said to Moses
here in verse 3, I appeared unto Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. by the
name of God Almighty, but by my name Jehovah was I not known
to them." That doesn't mean that the name Jehovah was never used
before. It was. It began in Genesis 2, the name,
the Lord. Any time you see the word capital
L, capital O, capital R, capital D, that's Jehovah. The Hebrew
word is Jehovah. Our English word is Lord. But
the Lord is now going to clearly revealed through Moses and his
people what his name means. They're going to know. Jehovah
means Jehovah. Are you with me? They're going
to know. And all God's people from now on are going to know
Jehovah means Jehovah. And that's what they're going
to call it. Jehovah. The independent one. The eternal
one. Now, this is vitally important
for God's glory and for our comfort. And you know, only today does
true Israel know him as Jehovah. That's right. All right. Now, I wish I could make you
pay attention, but I can't. I know who must. So I'm totally
dependent on him right now. I can't make this understandable.
I can't make you sit there and be interested. I can't do it.
I know who does and must. So, I'm just going to go on. God's will, I mean the God of
the Bible, His will, His purpose, His ways are independent of anybody
and anything. They don't depend on. Now, this
is the God of the Bible. His will, His ways, His everything
is totally independent of anybody or anything, any circumstance,
any person, anything cooperating with Him. This is the God of the Bible.
He doesn't depend on man to whatever. No, sir. We're talking about
Jehovah now. Independent. his will. When God Almighty willed and
purposed everything concerning every woman, it was totally independent
of man's cooperation and man helping him out or man agreeing
to it. Totally independent of that.
God said, I've purposed it, it'll stand. I've thought I'll do it. I've spoken it, it'll come to
pass. But, but, but, but, but what?
I'm Jehovah. This boy's going to keep saying
throughout here, I will, I will, I will, I will. This is what
God's people know him as. This is how God's people glorify
him. I mean true Israel, without exception,
all glorify him who does the willing. He who's independent
of man's will of cooperating with him. Are you with me? I'm
sorry if I get excited. Somebody in this generation needs
to say this. Mankind is blaspheming God Almighty
with all this talk of man's independent will. This is the Jehovah of
the Scriptures who says, I am Jehovah, independent of anybody
and anything. I see some nodding heads out
there. You must be true Israel. You must be. The Egyptians, oh,
we will not, we don't know your Lord. Pharaoh said that, I don't
know your Lord, and I will not, I will not do as he says. Oh, yes, you will. Eventually,
every knee shall bow. But I don't like that. It doesn't
matter. And you will bow to it someday. Count on it. That's what God
says all the way down through here. I will. His will, His purpose,
His ways are eternal, independent and eternal. Whatever God does,
the scripture says, is forever. Whatever God does is forever. unchangeable. Now, the reason being, whatever is perfect doesn't need
change, does it? If something is perfect, it doesn't
require change. The only things that change must
be imperfect. They either change for the better
or for the worse. I've got to go on, or I'm not
going to get these verses covered. This excites me. It really does. I am Jehovah, and this is how
my people know me. My people know me this way. The
world doesn't. The world doesn't like it, but
that's how it is. That's how I am. Read on. Verse 4. Now, God says, I have
established my covenant with them. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, he's
talking about. He's a God of the Jews. Our Lord said to the
woman at the well, salvation is of the Jews. You don't know
what you worship, he said, but salvation is of the Jews. He's
a God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God chose Abraham. Abraham
had two sons. One of them was totally rejected,
thrown out. The other one was the son of promise, Isaac. There's a whole race of people,
folks. right now that claim to be Ishmaelites.
That's Arabic people. And they especially hate Israel. Why is that? That's the way it
started when Ishmael mocked Isaac. And when they did that, when
he did that, God said, get rid of Ishmael. Get rid of him. Isaac's my call. Isaac is my
chosen. That's not fair. I am Jehovah. And then Isaac had two sons,
Jacob and Esau. The children being not yet born,
neither having done any good or evil, but the purpose of God,
according to the election, must and will stand. It was said unto
Isaac's wife, The elders have served the younger, as it is
written, Jacob have I loved, and Esau have I hated. But he is Jehovah. Abraham, Isaac,
Jacob. That's who I'm the God. And I
made a covenant, God said, with them. Now, whenever the world is so
confused about this thing of a covenant. Maybe somebody in
here. Most people think of a covenant
as a mutual agreement between two parties. Most people think
that. When it says here God made a
covenant with them, God made this covenant before Abraham
was born, before Isaac was born. God told Abraham about his covenant.
God told Isaac about his covenant. It wasn't that God said that
you and me are going to make an agreement here. That wasn't
it. No, it's not it. It's not an agreement here. The
word covenant means testament. We get the word old and new testament. That is what God has testified
to, what God has declared. A covenant means a compact. That
is an absolute statement concerning. Stay with me. Now, this proof,
this covenant that God made is proof that he's Jehovah. This covenant is proof that he's
Jehovah, eternal and independent. Jacob's proof of that. If you're listening, you knew
what I just meant. Jacob is proof of that, that God's covenant
is independent. I am the Lord, I change not,
therefore you sons of Jacob are not consumed. It's eternal. Or Lot, or Jacob, or whoever. His covenant is proof that he
is Jehovah, proof. Now, God's covenant It's what God made with himself. It's what God purposed himself. He didn't make this with people,
that is, with their cooperation and their agreement. This covenant
is what God Almighty made with himself. God the Father, the
Son, and the Holy Spirit. That's who I'm talking about.
Himself. These three. These three are one. Made a pact. They made a pact, a compact. They testified, all three of
them, we're going to do this. We're going to do this thing.
Choose a people. Redeem a people. Save a people. And we're doing it for our glory. And we will do it. It will be
done, this covenant. It's independent. Jehovah. Jehovah
is independent of man cooperating. All right, his covenant. This
covenant, he confirmed it with an oath. John, you're paying
good attention there. You know the verse over there
in Hebrews. It says when he could swear by no greater, he swore
by himself. God says, I swear I'm going to
do this. I swear on my name. I am Jehovah. Now he tells us, Gabe, not to
swear by anything. Our Lord said in Matthew 5, verses
34 through 36, don't you swear by anything because you can't
fulfill anything that you swear by. Don't swear by God's name.
Can't call God into this. No, sir, you don't know. You
just say yes or no. Will you do it? Yes. Will you
do it? Not do it? No. But God swore. And when he could swear by no
greater, He swore by himself. I swear on my name that I'm Jehovah. I'm going to do this. Now, this
is for your comfort, Israel. Israel! This is for your comfort. It's for God's glory, Jehovah's
glory. Witnessing of Jehovah this morning. He swore on his name. His oath,
his covenant. We sing that song. His oath,
his covenant, his blood support me in the whelming flood. This
is going to support you in the overwhelming flood of your sin,
of your trials, this is what's going to support you. I'm telling
you the truth. You're going to get some comfort if you hang
on. Look at verse 6. The Lord said,
now, verse 4, I have established my covenant with them to give
them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein
they were strangers. Our Lord said, to me, shall inherit
the earth. I have also heard the groaning of the children
of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, I have remembered
my covenant." Jehovah says, I have. I have
established my covenant. I have. Past tense. Whom he foreknew,
he did predestinate. Whom he predestinated, he called.
Whom he called, he justified. Whom he justified, he glorified.
But wait a minute, I'm not... I have. I've established. I've established my covenant.
I've fixed it permanently. David said, this is all my salvation.
That God had made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered,
fixed, established in all things. And sure. Although my house is
not so, although the world doesn't seem like it's going right, God,
Jehovah, has made a covenant concerning me, ordered and fixed
in all things, and certain, established, and firm, and sure. This is our
rock stand, not like their rock, who rolls with them, rolls with
the punches. Our rock is steadfast, and sure,
and grounded, and settled, and that's where we stand. I've fixed it. I've established
my covenant. So Jehovah the Lord God says,
I have established my covenant to give them the land. I'm going
to give it. It's all a gift. It's all a gift. Salvation's a gift. Listen, Jews. This is good news. Listen, Jacob. This is good news. Salvation is a gift. 100%, 100% a gift. He's going to give it
all to you. Everything concerning it. It's
all of grace. Is that good news? I'm going
to give them the land Not if you work real hard, not if you
pray through, not if you quit this, quit that. You can't seem
to quit that, can you, Paul? No, the things I would do, I
don't do, the things I don't want to do, that's what I do.
What am I going to do? You're going to be saved by grace, Paul.
That's how. You're not going to do nothing.
You're going to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.
And stand in glory as Zerubbabel lays the topstone and cries out,
Grace unto us! This is not just a doctrine,
this is God's glory and our everlasting comfort. This is our salvation. I'm hollering, open the windows,
open the doors. I bet you to say there are very
few in Franklin County saying this. They're giving man all the glory
for something. No, this is all about Jehovah's
glory. God says, I will, I'll give it. Oh, and only the weak and the
helpless and the poor and the needy love the sound of a gift. Not the self-righteous. Not those
who think they have something offered to God. No! But those
who have nothing, who are nothing, who can't do nothing. Oh, they
love the sound of the word of grace. By grace are you saved. Do you hear that, sinner? Do
you hear that, Jacob? I heard it, Lord. I heard it. Do you hear that? Oh, I heard
it, Lord, I heard it. You hear that? Mary Magdalene? Oh, I sure did, Lord, and I love
it. Praise God. Praise be to His
grace. It's all to the praise of the
glory of His grace. I've fixed it. I've established
it. I'm going to give it. I'm Jehovah. Oh, look at verse 6. Oh, the
thief on the cross, verse 5. The Lord said, I have heard the
groaning of the children of Israel. Are you sure you hear me, Lord?
Would you listen? Israel, you get a blessing here.
David over and over again said, How long, O Lord? How long? How
long? How long are the heavens brass?
When are you going to hear me, Lord? I've heard. I've heard. I've heard every cry. I've heard
every beat of your heart. I've heard. And I've remembered,
he said, I remember my covenant. Now, the thief on the cross knew
something about this. Now, listen to me.
These Jews, Deborah, these Jews for hundreds and hundreds of
years were in Egypt and apparently weren't calling on the Lord.
Where are they? There's no record of them calling
on the Lord. Apparently, they were okay in
Egypt. But then one day, They begin
to call on the Lord. And God sent a deliverer, Moses.
And God said, I heard. You mean they went all this time
without calling on the Lord, and then they up and began to
call on the Lord and He heard them? Now, that's amazing. And that's amazing grace. Are
you with me? You, some of you, live 20, 30,
40, 50 years without giving God a thought. Call on the Lord, and He hears
you. Isn't that great grace and mercy? He shouldn't have to.
You know, the Lord says this, and it's, I will wait to be gracious. To who? My people. You know,
He says in Proverbs 1, of some people, a bunch of people, a
whole lot of people, that they're going to cry out unto the Lord
someday, and He's going to mock them. That's Proverbs 1. It's going
to mock when your troubles come. Whew! But you tell Israel, you
tell my people, as soon as they cry, I hear. Now remember, my
covenant. This asked the thief on the cross.
He's hanging on the cross, Jonathan. All his life he'd been a thief
and a murderer and a no good bum, and all of a sudden, in
the eleventh hour, at the end, He's never worked, never witnessed,
never done anything. Just hanging there, a dead, defiled
sinner hanging there. And he says, Lord. And the Lord hears him. Remember,
I will. Oh, Lord, you shouldn't have
anything to do with him. He's lived his whole life. What's the key? Covenant. He's part of His covenant. That's why He called them. All
whom the Lord makes His covenant, they call. They call. In time. Even in the eleventh
hour, they call. Look at this. You're going to
like this. Verse 6, Say unto the children of Israel, I am
the Lord, that is, Jehovah. I will bring you out from the burdens of the Egyptians. I'm going to bring you out. God
hath chosen a people out of. God hath redeemed a people out
of the world. Not every person in the world,
but out of the world, the scripture says. Now this bringing, when
you bring, when you bring, it's a continual thing. When you bring
something. What are you bringing? It's not
you brought. But you bring, God says, I will
bring you out. This is a lifelong bringing.
This is what God is doing with his people, a lifelong bringing,
bringing them out, bringing them out, bringing them out. A growth in
grace and bringing them out, sanctifying, setting them apart
from the world, bringing them out. But look at the next line.
He says, I'll bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians,
and I will rid you out of their bondage. I'll rid you out. I'll bring
you out, and I'll rid you out. I'm going to get rid of you.
The world's going to love it. Good riddance. It's what God
said. I'll get rid of you. I'm going
to rid you out of this world. The world is going to be glad
to get rid of you, and you're going to be glad to get rid of
it. I'll rid you out. Listen to Isaiah 57. The righteous perisheth, and
no man lays at the heart. And merciful men, that is, men
who have obtained mercy, are taken away, none considering
that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. I'm going
to get rid of you. I'm going to get rid of you. Good riddance the world said.
The Egyptians finally said, oh, we're glad to get rid of those
Jews. And the Jews said, we're sure glad to get rid of you. I'm going to rid you out. The
righteous perish to help the Lord, the godly healer. Why did
he take this person or that person? It's infinite mercy and grace. He ribbed them out of Egypt.
And I will redeem you, he says in Exodus, in our text, I will
redeem you with a stretched out arm with great judgment. I will
redeem you. The word redeem, have you ever
redeemed anything? What's it mean? You ever had
any coupons or something you took to the store and you turned
it in? What does that mean? You paid for it. You purchased
it. Now let me ask anybody in here.
Anybody. Everybody. Have you ever purchased
something or paid a lot of money for it that you didn't go and
pick it up? I don't know. I'm talking about
a lot of money. Your life savings. A lot of money. Thousands of dollars. Have you
ever paid thousands and thousands of dollars for something and
didn't go get it? Anybody in there? You say, that'd be crazy. Everyone who Jesus Christ died
for, whom the blood paid for, God's going to pick them up. He's redeemed them. They're to
purchase possession. They belong to Him. Everyone whom God hath redeemed,
I will redeem. The price is infinite. Precious
blood. How's this? With a stretched
out arm. With great judgment. Stretched
out arm? How do you redeem a star? With
two stretched out arms. Christ crucified. With great
judgment. Not ours. Christ's judgment. And I will, verse seven, I will.
You notice, are you listening carefully? You notice all the
way down through here, he never says, will you? He never one time says to the
Israelite, will you? If you will, whosoever will. Not one time. He just keeps saying,
I will. I will. I will. You shall. I will. Because I'm Jehovah. You're smiling, Narnia. You must
know Jehovah. There's a Jehovah witness. I will. I will. I will, verse 7, take you to
me for a people. Oh, this is going to mean something
to a couple Saturday. This is like a marriage covenant. This covenant is a marriage covenant. It certainly is. And the bridegroom
is the Lord Jesus Christ, the Father who willingly gave the
bride to the Son, the Son who willingly took the bride. But
in the beginning, God Almighty said, I will betroth a people
to my Son. I will. He arranged it. He really did. He arranged the
marriage. supper of the Lamb, who would
be his son's bride. And he gave them to his son.
And this covenant, this covenant was between God the Father, Son,
and Holy Spirit. And God said, I have purposed
it. And he says to the son, will
you do everything? Will you take this forlorn woman? He didn't marry a good woman.
He married a harlot. Like Hosea, the book of Hosea,
the whole book is about it. Will you take this forlorn woman?
She's not going to take you at birth. She will not have you
at birth. But will you have her? And the
son says, I will. Now, will it be done? Will it be accomplished? Well,
in time, by his wooing and by his power, this is God we're
talking about, not man. By his power, he makes his people
willing in the day of his power. Oh, it's not of him that willeth
or him that runneth, it's of God that showeth mercy. It's
of God that worketh in us both to will and to do of his good
pleasure, as Scripture says. But in time, God reveals himself
in this covenant to us, and God says to us, Will you take my
son to be your lawful wedded husband? To have and to hold?
Till death do you unite? Will you? What does every one
of his brides say? I will. I will. Most certainly I will. I will. I will take to you take you to
Me for a people, and His people in time by His power say, I take
him to Me. I will be to you a God. People,
our God is God. Let me tell you for your comfort,
at this world falling down all around you, when all around my
soul gives way, our God is God. Our God is to us God. I'll be to you a God, not a make-believe,
but God. Verse 7, and you'll know. You'll know that I am the Lord
your God that bringeth you out from under the burdens of Egypt.
You'll know. Every one of God's people know.
They know who did the bringing. They know who did the calling.
They know who did the choosing. They know who God is. In verse
8, God says, I will bring you into the land. I will. I'll bring you into the
land. Our Lord, over there in John 14, He was leaving, and
the disciples were all torn up, as you and I are about many things. And the Lord consoled them and
comforted them by saying, Do you believe in God? I believe also in me. What? I am. And I go to prepare a place
for you in my Father's house and many mansions. If it were
not so, I would have told you. But I go to prepare a place for
you. If I go, I'll come again and receive you to myself. Oh,
yeah. I'm going to take you with me.
You're going to know when I bring you out. You're going to know.
And I will bring you into the land, verse 8, I will bring you
into the land, which I did swear to give it. I swore it. I'll bring you into the land,
and I will give it to you for a heritage. I'm Jehovah. You still with me? Anybody? Because
I'm Jehovah. That's what my name means. God
keeps saying, I am Jehovah. I am Jehovah. Do you know His
name, Israel? I am Jehovah. Independent. Nothing is going to depend on
this. I mean, His purpose depends on
nothing. His purpose depends on nothing.
He's Jehovah. It's not going to depend on me.
I'm so happy. It just makes me happy that it
doesn't depend on that. And it's eternal. It's forever. Are you a preacher? Are you preaching once in grace,
always in grace? Yes, I am. Yes, I am. I won't explain it or apologize
for it. Yes, I am. God said it. He said it about me. And I'm saying, wow, that gives
