what she was singing. I know
some of you do. In my hand, no price I bring. Simplitude I cross, I cling. Do you understand that? Mark chapter 11. Mark chapter
11 is a clear picture of salvation. Mark chapter 11 is a story of
how the Lord chooses, subdues, or breaks, and gets glory from
a sinner. This is my story. This is my
story. How the Lord breaks everyone
He chooses to save, and how they are brought to submit to his
yoke. I hope there is an unbroken colt
or filly in here this morning. Verse 1 says, When they came
nigh unto Jerusalem, unto Vestige and Bethany, at the Mount of
Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples. He sent forth
two fellows to fetch something for him. This is a picture of
how the Lord sends out his preachers of the gospel, sends out his
messengers, his preachers. Wherever he has a people that
he's going to bring to himself, he sends a preacher. Whomever
the Lord purposes to save, they hear a preacher. And he saith unto them, he told,
here's the orders which he gave his disciples, Go your way into
the village over against you, or on the other side. Go your
way into that village. As soon as you be entered into
it, you shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat. Loose him, and bring him. He told these two fellows to
go into this village, and he said, you will find a colt tap. He loosed it. Turn him loose
and bring it. And the Lord, this is what the Lord told all of
his disciples in Mark 16, go into all the world and preach
the gospel. Because God has a people out
of every tribe, kindred, nation, tongue, under heaven. God has
a people. God has chosen a people out of
every tribe, nation, kindred, and tongue under heaven. And
he has sent the gospel all over this planet to gather his people,
go into all the world. And the Lord finds them where
he put them. They don't find him. Nobody ever
found the Because nobody was looking for him. Salvation is
when God Almighty comes looking for you. That's what the scripture
says. It talks about Christ being the
shepherd who left the ninety and nine in the wilderness and
went after his lost sheep. You see, God's people, we're
the ones that are lost, and Christ must come find us, and he does
that through the preaching of the gospel, and he finds them
where he put them. He'll put them in a place where
they'll hear the gospel, where they'll hear the gospel, which
breaks them, subdues them. Now, salvation is of the Lord's sovereign
choice. I make no apology for that. That's what makes him God. Why
do we always say this? Why do we keep saying this? God elected a people. God chose
them. Why do we keep saying that? Does that hold an answer? Because
it's so. Because it's God's Word. And
because, like Martin Luther said, Martin Luther's the one that
said this, he said, if I do not profess with the loudest voice
that very point in which the world is rebelling against and
hating and despising, if I do not confess in the loudest voice
that very point which the world hates and despises and rejects,
I'm not confessing God and I'm not confessing the truth. And
this is the point. This is the line drawn in the
saying. Does God have a right to be God? Whose rights, whose will will
be done? Who is it? Everybody in heaven
is there because they love God's right to be God. Because they
submit to and bow to God's sovereign right to do what he will with
whom he will. And those who won't, those who
don't, won't be there. Those who prefer man's will and
man's rights and would rather glorify man's decision over God's
are not going to be there. This is the language of Scripture.
The Lord Jesus Christ told these two disciples to go into this
village and you'll find a colt tied up because that's where
I put him. Now, there were many colts throughout
Bethany. Don't you reckon? Everybody had
a donkey. This was a young colt of an ass. Biblical language. I'm glad he
uses that term. We think of something else, but
it's synonymous. The colt foal of an ass. Donkey. There were many of them throughout.
Everybody had one. They didn't have... That was
their only means of transportation, right? There were many of them
throughout Bethany. The Lord sent them to a particular
place, to a particular cult. Right? He could have chosen any
of them, but he chose this one. So it is in salvation. He said,
cannot I do with my own what I will? He said, I'll have mercy
on whom I will have mercy. I choose the colt. I choose the
colt. That colt didn't choose him.
We're going to see that in a minute. No unbroken colt will. It's not nature of the animal
to want to be ridden, is it? Get it. Well, the Lord finds
them where he puts them. He finds his people. There are
no accidents with the Lord. All purposed, all predetermined,
yes. And he brings all of his chosen
ones to a place where they'll hear the gospel and they'll be
found by him through the gospel. And it's the sovereign command
of Christ. You'll see in a minute, these
preachers, these disciples didn't ask Colt anything. They didn't
ask the owners of it anything. They went and got it. So it is
with the sovereign God and his sovereign salvation. He doesn't
ask people. He apprehends them. He apprehends
them. It's a big difference. Because
he gets all the glory, see? He gets all the glory in their
choosing and in their coming. They're made willing. They've
got to be made willing. How? The one who broke them makes
them willing. He says, you'll find a colt tied. A colt. I said, and over in,
I think it's Matthew's account of this. Matthew gives the account
of this in chapter 21. He makes it plain it's a foal
of an ass. That is a donkey. Now this is
an ungilded, y'all ought to be familiar with that term about
now. that horse that was racing, ungilded,
uncastrated, that is, a young stud coat of a donkey. Now, get this. This is a young
stud coat of a donkey. This is a wild ass. I love the plainness of God's
Word. This is a wild, young ass, is what this is. no two ways
around it, no glossing over it. This young, wild ass is a hellion. This is a good description of
all of us by nature. Yes, it is. So if it's not me,
then he didn't come get you. It's the only kind he gets, the
only kind he rides. You'll see. There's nothing wilder
than an unbroken cult. Nothing wilder than an unbroken
coat. Those of you who have been around them understand. Except, the only thing wilder
is an unbroken human being. I know. I'm experienced. He said
he was a coat. He said he was tied up. Now,
notice, everything is significant. He was tied up. Men and women,
and especially young people, like to think they're free spirits.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Men and women and
young people like to think they're independent. Nothing could be further from
the truth, especially young people. They like to think they're free
spirits, doing their own thing. No, they're not. If somebody
sticks a bone through their nose, Just let some person walk around
butt-naked with a bone through their nose, they'll all start
doing it. Why? They're bound by this thing
called peer pressure. Independent? No. They're bound by these things.
are bound by various things, bound by sin especially, we cannot
do good. Scripture says, Can the Ethiopian
change his skin? Can the leopard his spots? Neither
can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil. You can't do it.
We are bound by sin. We are born that way. We come
forth from the womb speaking lies. Why is it easier to lie? Why is it easier to cheat, to
steal, to hate? Why is that? That's our nature.
That's our nature. Wild, unbroken. We're bound by
ignorance. We don't know God. We don't have
a clue about God. Come into this world, well, He's
a spiritual person. No, He's not. He's flesh. All He thinks about is food and
drink and sex, just like an animal. That's all of us by nature. That's
the way we're born. Man by superstition, whatever
somebody tells somebody, somebody will believe it. I believe it. Why do you think the National
Enquirer is the largest selling tabloid in the world? Who believes
that stuff? Well, somebody must. They buy
them. Man by superstition, tradition,
Most people will believe what their daddy believe, what their
daddy's daddy believe, what their daddy's daddy, daddy, daddy,
daddy. No matter how ridiculous it is, they'll believe it. That's
what they believe. They're bound by it. Oh, I'm
independent. I like, I'm, I'm a Democrat because
I, I chose to be. Yeah, right. Bound. Coat tied. Tied up. Tied up. Scripture says, more plainly,
we're tucked in. This coat was tied up. Somebody
had held him captive, tied him up, bound him down. He could
not get loose. Who's that? Scripture says we
are held captive by, and the modern world can scoff at Satan,
but again, Christ spoke of him more than anybody. Bound by Satan. A wild, young ass tied up. That's what you'll find tied
up. Read on. He says, you'll find
this wild, young ass coat tied whereon never man sat. Are you with me? Never man sat. No one had ever
ridden this coat. Nobody had ever been on the back
of this coat. Perhaps his owners had tried to. but failed. I was around, I've been around
with, Kelly, you don't mind if I refer to you a little bit,
you're the most experienced horse person in here, but Kelly's been
around a lot more than I have, but I've been around a few young
colts and fillies who hadn't been handled for a while. A fella
called me up one day, I sold him a mare, and he had this thing
bred and had a cold this fellow didn't have a need to know anything
about horses but he wanted to have a phone one so he had this
feeling and care he didn't touch the thing. For six months I don't
remember even getting near it. He's afraid of it you know says
he got to get around and kick at him and when he went running
the next time it. kick a little harder at him,
you know, until finally it was six months old and getting pretty
big, you know, and whew! And he called me and said, would
you come help me with this car? I said, well, I don't know if
I can help you or not. Why'd you wait this long? Huh? Well, believe me, his owners
had tried to do something with him but couldn't. About all they
could do was get a halter on it and get it tied up. Nobody had ever ridden this horse,
right? Nobody had ever ridden this coat.
Now, I learned this from Brother Kelly. The only good horse is
a broken one. The only good horse is a broken
one. A horse is only good for something when you can get on
its back and ride it, or tie it to a plow and it'll pull it. Else, what are they good for?
Huh? People—I remember Kelly telling
me this—folks think a horse is a good horse. You know, everybody,
they get them a pet horse, and they think, well, she's a good—isn't
she sweet? Well, sure she is. All you've
ever done is feed her and pet her. You've never put a saddle
on her. You've never done anything. Sure
she's good. Come to you like a dog. Oh, the minute you put that bridle
on or that saddle on it, watch them. The minute you expect something
out of them, watch them. The minute you expect them to
give them a little do, you know, you're not just feeding them
for free. You want to get something out of them. The minute you ask
them to do anything or want them to do something for you, watch
them. Kick and buck and rebel and reject a bit. Huh? Try to get them to see. to submit,
and they'll kick and butt. This is the picture of man. Man
was made by God to glorify God. Now, listen to me. Man was made by God for his glory. God didn't need man. He didn't
need him, but he made him according to his purpose. And he made him
for his glory, to glorify him being the Creator. God made man,
did he not? Everybody in here will acknowledge that, right? The world over, almost universally, man believes
that we came from a monkey, that God had nothing to do with us. God made human beings for his
glory as a creator, and yet people all over this planet who he made
don't even acknowledge that he made them. He's going to snuff
them out—millions of them. I made you. No, you didn't. I
came from a monkey. No, you didn't. You were acting
like one, but you didn't come from one. God made man for his glory. God
made man and all he expects out of man. This is all God expects
out of man. Listen to me. All God expects out of man is
for man to worship him as God. To thank him. I gave you the
water. Thank you for the rain, Lord.
that comes falling out of the sky that sustains life on this
planet. What does man do? Too much! Not
enough! And when it's just right, ain't
we lucky. Mother nature's sweet. God says,
I gave you that right. Food we eat, clothes we wear,
everything we wear grows from the ground. Except this man-made
stuff, and you can have it. Our homes, everything is—our
homes are made—everything we have, God made it and freely
gave to us. All he expects and demands out
of man is for him to acknowledge him. God, you gave me this. And to acknowledge what he says
about us. You're an unworthy creature, but I've freely given
you. And concerning his son, God has
one son. And he expects the world. He's
made him Lord over all. And he expects the world to bow
to him. He expects the world to acknowledge him as Lord. He
is. He expects the world to submit to him. Like Pharaoh said of
Joseph, if you want anything, you come to Joseph. He's in charge.
Don't come to me. I've put Joseph in charge. You
bow to, you submit to, he's your God. That's what Christ said
of Jesus Christ. I mean, what the Lord said of
his son, Jesus Christ. Bow to him. Submit to him. Acknowledge
him. Worship him. Thank God. God set
aside one day. God set aside one day out of
seven. Isn't that good, God? Give us six days to play and
work and so forth. One day, he said, just take an
hour. Just take an hour. Take a little effort. It proves
you're sincere about it, serious about it. Take a little effort.
Come, sit, and hear about me. Those that really loved it, two
days a week. Come hear about me, how great
I am, what all I've done for you. Those that really appreciate
it will come. Come, be thankful. Just give
thanks. It's my just due. Give honor
to those whose honor is due. Come, worship. God is God, his
Creator, his Sustainer, his Giver, his Savior, his Lord. Come, worship. You take a son
of Adam whom God has fed and watered and housed all the days
of his life and tried to bring him to the church house one time
just to give thanks to God one time in his life. I don't want to go there with you.
I don't want to go to church. And preachers get up all the
time and thank them for it. Huh? God created man for this purpose. For my glory. And if he's not
going to get glory out of you, out of me, he'll be done with
us. Give me thanks. I deserve it. Acknowledge me. You're breathing
my air. If I don't ride you and get something
out of you, you're going to the meat market. Is that right? That's right. Come worship God with me. Why
should I? Man. Never a man has sat on him. The
wild ass. If left to himself, if this coat
was left to himself, what's going to happen to it? He's going to
kill himself. He's going to kill himself. All right, the Lord said, look
at verse 2. The Lord said, you go, you get
him, and you loose him. He's tied up. He sent his two
disciples in there. You loose him and bring him. This cult was probably owned
by a Pentecostal preacher, because this fellow was bound
down. Here is another good picture.
Not only are all of us bound by sin and bound by our nature,
but some of us get religious, and then we are bound by rules
and regulations and law and whatever the preacher or the denomination
told us we have to do. We see some in our own community
literally bound down. Because some fella has told them,
tighten up. It's not the people I'm mad at.
I about said it. It's these damn preachers. It's
these damn elders. It's these damn religious leaders. They bind, the Scripture says,
Christ said it, they bind heavy yokes upon them, the people. I despise them, every one of
them. I don't pray for them. I pray for the people. I want
to tell so many of these ladies, if the Son had set you free,
you'd be free indeed, not bound down. If you hear from one of the Lord's
true preachers, you'll be loosed. You'll be loosed. When you hear
the gospel, it's such good news, it loosens you. It doesn't make
you live loose. It doesn't make you live loose.
You come to Christ. You get ridden by him. But nevertheless,
it loosens you from being tied up and bound down by all these
people. Men, what they touch not, test
not, handle not, go not, do not, you'll be like me." What? Lost. Bound. No, God sends his preachers with
a truth of Christ that sets them free. All they do is simply point
you to Christ, don't bind heavy burdens on you. Folks, the freedom
that's in Christ, the real freedom that God's people have in Christ
is just—we don't—you know, a horse that's never had this doesn't
realize how blessed it is, never had, never really been bound
down and all that. A horse has pretty much run free
all his life. He doesn't realize. What a blessing. See, we're not telling anybody
that you've got to be this way, be that way, quit this, quit
that, do this, do that, straighten up, fly right, and then God will
save you. No sir. No sir. That's not how God saves anybody.
That's works. I'll give you an illustration.
Many of you have heard this, heard my father tell it. True
story. Brother Ralph Barnard, back in the fifties, I believe
it was, was holding a meeting in a place, in a town, a week-long
meeting. Brother Ralph Barnard, preacher
from Winston-Salem. Most of the places he went and
preached to, you know, it was a pioneer place, as people never
really heard the gospel before. Well, he went to this place,
and he was preaching that week. About the third day, he was invited
to dinner by a woman that was attending the services, a woman
who was married, had a husband. And her husband hadn't come to
one of the services yet. Well, Barnard was invited by
this woman who loved what he was preaching, loved the gospel,
and out of gratitude and appreciation, wanted to have the preacher in
her home, you know. And she did. And her husband was there. And Barnard sat down to eat. And the preacher, you know, or
the fellow was real uncomfortable. Anyway, after they were eating
a while, the fellow said to Barnard, he said, uh, Preacher! He says,
I reckon you noticed I hadn't been to services. And Barnard, you know, he didn't
pigeonhole anybody or corner anybody or hit them over the
head with religion. He knew that God the Holy Spirit's
working. He'll do the work. Barnard said, I guess you noticed
I hadn't been to any of the services. Barnard eating his chicken, usually
served chicken, you know. Where'd that come from? Anyway,
he said, yeah, I noticed it. I noticed. He kept on eating. And the fellow said, don't you
want to know why? Barnard said, why? Fella said, because every preacher
I've ever run into, everywhere, every preacher I've talked to,
you see, the fella, the fella, the fella owned a tavern, a bar. Used to call them a tavern back
then. A bar, you know, where they served
ale and whiskey and all that. That was, that was what he did.
He owned a tavern. And the fellow said, the reason
I don't come is because every preacher I've ever talked to
said, you have to sell your tavern. You have to sell your tavern
before you can come to church, before the Lord will save you.
You have to sell that tavern. And the fellow said, I'm not
going to sell my tavern. And so he said, that's why I'm
not coming. Byron said, you don't have to sell your tavern to be
saved. You know said I don't. So I know
you don't sell your tavern be saying I just say that. OK next day he was there in the
service. And the next day. Thank you reveal the truth to
me. You know what he did? He sold his neighbor. But you
don't have to do that to be saved. If you quit your drinking and
come to Christ, you'll save him. That's not who he saves. If you can quit all that and
do all that, why do you need him anyway? Christ said, I came into the
world to save sinners. They come to call the righteous.
They don't need him. So we don't tell folks, do this
and do that, quit this and quit that, keep the law. All we do
is preach Christ. Verse 3. I've got to go on. I've
got to quit. Verse 3. So listen. Bring it. Verse 3. If any man
say unto you, why do ye this? Say ye that the Lord hath need
of him. You know, there's many times
when I think, why am I bothering? to do this. Why bother talk to
people who are ungrateful, unthankful? I'm not talking about you per
se, but other people. Why bother preaching? On the radio, you know, we've
been on the radio five years now and get very little response,
you know. Apparently very few people out
there believe it or need it. They're all fixed up and all
that, and I think, why bother? Why am I bothering to do this? Why bother? talking to people
who don't want to be bothered. Why bother with people who don't
want to be bothered? Because the Lord said about some, some
chosen few, some blessed elect that he chooses, the Lord hath
needed you. Me? Yeah, the Lord hath needed
you. Now, it's not that the Lord needs
an unbroken ass. What's the Lord need with an
unbroken ass? That's not it. But his purpose.
What does the Lord have to need with this ass? His purpose, his
glory, his word is going to be fulfilled and revealed. His purpose is going to be known,
His glory, His word is going to be fulfilled in bringing this
wild ass for Him to sit on, in choosing and breaking and riding
this wild ass. The Lord is going to get glory
out of this wild thing. That's why He chose it. He's
going to get more glory out of it than before. By riding this
wild ass in town, He's going to get glory out of it. That's
why he chooses anybody. Verses 4 through 6, let's read
on. And they went their way, and what did they find? They found a colt tied by the
door, without, outside in a place where two ways met. They found
just exactly what the Lord said they'd find. Now, this is significant. Verse 4 says he was tied by the
door. Christ said, I'm the door. The
gospel is preached right here. It's been preached right here
in this building, the very building, for over thirty years. This fellow sits, this fellow
in the house right here, right by the door where the gospel
is preached. He's never walked in this door.
He has no interest. I've talked to him. He has no
interest whatsoever. Nice fellow, until you talk to
him about the gospel. And he's a wild ass. Right by the door. Where two
ways met, it said. Two ways. Go this way, go that
way. Go your own way. What way will
you go? If left to ourselves, there's a way which seemeth right
to man. But the end is destruction. If
the Lord leaves you alone, leaves me alone, we'll go the way of
all flesh, the way of destruction. The broad way that everybody's
going. Let many go in there. But many are called, but few
are chosen to be put in that straight and narrow way which
leads to life, which leads to Christ, Christ the Lord. They
must be brought by Christ himself. So you see that? That's significant,
isn't it? In a place where two ways meet, and they loosen. They
loosen. And certain of them, verse 5,
certain of them that stood there said unto them, Why do you loosen
that coat for? Why do you loosen that coat?
And they said unto them, even as Jesus had commanded. What did they do? And getting
this coat, what did they do? They—all they did was what Jesus
Christ told them to do. Don't take a little—don't take
a little—an apple and cut up an apple and try to
get this horse to follow you. Don't sleep talking. Don't touch some molasses, you
know, a curry cone. People aren't worn into the kingdom
by sweetness. That's what the world of preachers
say. And so they're filling up their
buildings. Don't ask the ass to do anything. Asses can't follow you, can they? They won't. Don't ask the owners
of it. Would you let him go? They won't
let him go. Well, what are you to do? What
are we to do? Oh, they did. Listen to them now. Oh, these
two fellows went up and said, This is the Lord's. We're taking
him. Loosed him. Hey, what are you
doing? The Lord hath made of him. Okay. Salvation is by divine command,
not request. The king wants a meeting with
you. Would you please honor his presence?" The king said calmly, "'The king, there's a fellow
down in the house of Lodibar named Mephibosheth, lame on both
legs, an enemy of the king. I'm going to kill all his family. This is a true story. I'm going
to kill all his family. Second son, you're mine. He's an enemy of the king. He
deserves to die too. But I," King David said, but
I'm going to show mercy. His daddy named Jonathan was
my best friend, and he and I made a covenant. And I promised him
I'd show mercy to one in his house. And there's an old man
by the name of Philbishop down there, and he and me, if he had
two legs, he'd try to put me off the throne. David said to
his servants, go down and not ask him, not sweet-talk him,
fetch him! Pick him up, apprehend him, bring
him to me! They picked that old boy in a
rag, brought him to him, and set him down at the feet of the
Lord Jesus. Yes, set him down at the feet
of the most powerful man, the king of kings in Jerusalem, David,
who could snuff his life out or give him life, who could put
him on a dung heap or put him on a throne beside him. He sat
there in fear and trembling, looking up at the king of kings,
thinking, you can kill me, you can make me live. You can accept
me or reject me. I realize now it's all in your
hands. I'm a dead dog." But David, being the merciful,
kind king that he was, and because of that covenant he made with
that boy's father named Jonathan, he said, for Jonathan's sake,
I have decided to have mercy on you. Put some new clothes on him.
Bring him into my house. Sit him at the table right beside
me. Serve him the best food. I'm
going to adopt him as my son, from a dead dog to a son of the
king. Who did the choosing? Why'd he
come? Because he was fetched. We preach the sovereign rights
and commands and words of the Lord Jesus Christ. We preach
a God who must fetch people, because this gives him all the
glory. We preach that man is a wild-ass
as coal, unless the Lord Jesus Christ apprehends him through
the preaching of the gospel and brings him to himself, he will
not come. He will not come. Christ said,
you will not come unto me that you might have life, but all
that the Father giveth me shall come unto me, and he that cometh
unto me I will in no wise cast out. We preach thus saith the Lord.
We don't beg sinners to do anything for Christ. He's not a beggar,
neither are His preachers. We'd go out preaching the covenant
rites of the Lord Jesus Christ. Expect every one of God's righteous
to come just like he said they would. Don't beg them, don't
tweet-talk them, don't try to lure them, promise them, bribe
them, don't do anything. Just preach the faith of the
Lord. And buddy, watch them come. Watch
them come to Christ. That's how you know it's of the
Lord. That's how you know. Verse 7, they brought the coat
to Jesus. They brought the coat to Jesus
and cast their garments on him. In other words, all his people,
all his disciples, took off their garments, not their rags. They had their best clothes,
their good clothes anyway, and put them all over this colt.
They brought this colt. Now here he is. He's come. He's
been brought to the Lord. He's been apprehended by preachers
of the gospel and brought to the Lord. Here he is, this wild
colt. Nobody had ever sat on him. And
all these people began just taking their clothes off and putting
them all over this coat. What's that mean? Christ didn't take his coat off,
but we do wear his righteousness yet. But what this is talking
about, I believe, is when you come to Christ, when Christ brings
you to himself, to his church, to where he is, you'll find the
people They absolutely will shower you with love. I mean real people,
not fake religious people. They're trying to get something
out of you. Not a preacher who's chalking your name up on some
board and reporting you to some board somewhere. King, that guy's
25, King, not a preacher like that. He's not interested in
you, that is, in what he can get out of you. He's just interested in people knowing
Christ. And so are they. You see, all
the people, they were just like him. They were brought to him
and they're just so happy. You'll find the people just happy
for you. Happy for you, not what they can get out of you. You'll
find the people will literally give you the shirt off their
back. Oh, yeah. There's some people
I have to watch it when I say, well, I like that. I really like
that shirt you're wearing. Honestly, I know several like
that. I really like it. I've had it
happen. Take it right off and give it
to them. That's what you'll find in God's
people, true people, true people. Well, so the Lord, here He is. The Lord, now this quote has never been written. ever been
written by any man. The Lord grabbed hold of its
mane. That's how you get up on a horse that don't have a saddle
on it. Grabbed hold of its mane like
that. Threw the leg up, sat on it. What happened? Nothing. Brother Kelley, have you ever
had that happen in your life? Get on an unbroken, and never
happened? Not kick a leg, not hump a back,
not back, not nothing? This one didn't. But, but, but, but. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but. Dossal
is a lamb. Just immediately, as soon as
he brought it to Christ, broken. Immediately broken. When Christ
laid a hold on him, he said, You're mine now. You're mine. It was immediately broken, immediately
subdued, immediately bowed to and submitted to the Lord Jesus
Christ. No more bucking. His former owners tried it, and
he'd buck and kick and spit the bit. Nuh-uh. Not now. This is the Lord. the breaker
of wild asses' coats. The Lord said in one place, be
still and know that I'm God. Everybody, Brother Stephen, he
reveals himself to, that's what they do. All this religion today is not
of God. All this wild asses', they act like a bunch of wild
asses' coats. Don't they? That's not of God. Be still and
know that I'm God. You can't hear the message when
all this junk's going on. Huh? Be still. This wild ass's
coat stood still and knew this one on my back is now my Lord. And the Lord rode him into town.
I love that. The Lord rode him into town.
Now, he didn't say, we're going on a hundred-mile trip. Oh, no,
he wouldn't do that to this little donkey. He didn't lay a long,
arduous journey, hard, back-breaking work on this donkey. All this
donkey was required to do was lift up the master. That's what
he got him. We're just going to ride on into
town. I've got to be lifted up. That's why he bites these wild
asses, Coach, for his glory. All this donkey had to do was
walk along the road, lifting up the Lord. You get this? You see this? Let's go over here and plow this
field. No! Okay, now let's do side passes.
He's not ready for that. Just ride into town with me on
your back to show you're now broken. You're now submitted
to me. I'm your owner. You're just going to ride into
town. Everybody's going to see. Well, there's that unbroken. There's
that ass that old Billy Bob couldn't break. Look at him. Look. He's
being ridden. He ain't mucking and kicking
and biting and stretching. Look at him. He ain't done right. He's got a broken look to him. That gives—you see, why did the
Lord choose an ass as a colt? Let me close with this. Why did
the Lord choose an ass as a colt? Well, at his rodeos—you ever watch
his rodeos? I do. I love to watch PBR. It's
one of my favorites. I watch it with one eye open.
Those guys getting—ugh. Those guys are either the bravest
fellows on earth or the fools, the craziest. I watch them. Now,
who gets the high score? Who wins the title? Whoever rides the baddest bull.
In other words, the best cowboy can ride the baddest bull, the
wildest brawn, right? Christ gets more glory. And riding
the wilder of the fellow, Mary Magdalene, out of whom he cast
seven devils—harlot, prostitute, street woman, thief on the cross,
up to his dying breath, about to go out of this world, and
lived his whole life as a thief and a murderer. Boke him. His mama had tried. Judaism had tried. Couldn't do
it. Christ with a word said today,
you're broke. Ah, boy. Christ saves the chief
of sinners. Saul of Tarsus. Saul of Tarsus
himself was riding a horse. Go ahead, bring him off of it,
off his high horse. And why on Ess's coat, lastly,
why does the Lord chooses a donkey, an ass's coat, not a noble steed? Who could have—couldn't he have
chosen a noble steed, Brother Ronald? Couldn't he have said,
go in there, in town, you'll find a sleek, white, lippazoner
stallion? Put the best bridle and all that
on him, and I'll ride him in town. Uh-uh. A donkey. Why? Oh, this picture says, not many
wise, not many mighty, not many noble are called. You see, you're
calling, brethren, beloved of the Lord, how that God hath chosen
the weak things, the despised things, the base things, the
things that are nothing, the foolish things. Why? That no
flesh should glory in his presence. I guarantee you, when Christ
rode into town on this donkey, Not one person in that place,
not one person in all of Jerusalem said, would you look at what
a donkey he's riding. Not one person noticed the donkey. You see that? No place is more
glory than His presence. Now one person said, boy, isn't
that some donkey? No, it's just an old donkey. I mean, a floppy-eared, shaggy
coat. Donkey's a donkey, isn't it,
Kevin? Boy, but they all said, Hosanna, here comes our king,
meek and lowly, riding on a donkey. He's coming back again, he's
going to ride on Charger. White horse, Scripture said.
Come back again. Not in salvation, but in judgment
with a sword. That's Scripture. All right,
let's sing in closing. Number 207. Number 207. 207.
And we're going to sing just the verses only, no chorus. Number 207, no chorus, bad chorus. That was added later on by some
Armenian fellow. But the verses are excellent
by Philip Doddridge of Grace Pretreat back in the 16th century. Now, let's sing
this to the tune of the doxology. Stand with me. Oh, happy day that makes my chores,
on thee my Savior and my God. Well, may this glowing heart
rejoin, and tell its raptures all abroad. Oh, happy bond that
seals my vow to Him who merits all my love. Let cheerful anthems
fill his heart while to that sacred shrine "'Tis done, the
great transaction's done. I am my Lord's and He is mine. He drew me on, followed on. Charmed to confess the voice
divine. Now rest my long divided heart." Thank you.
