Zechariah chapter 8 the last
verse of that chapter The scriptures share this Thus
saith the Lord of hosts in those days it shall come to pass that
ten men shall take hold out of all the languages of the nations
even shall take hold of the skirt of him that That is a jew saying
We will go with you For we have heard that god is with you I've
got to the point when I read that name of the lord jesus the
lord of hosts I'm going to try to add hear ye hear ye hear ye
Because he is really emphasizing that he is intending for his
people to hear him And on this subject, it is one verse long,
what he wants us to hear. We have in this passage of scripture,
that it's another important message from the Lord of Hosts. And I
had, I looked up in four different translations, how that Lord of
Hosts was translated. In another one, it says he's
the Lord of armies. In another one, he's the Lord
Almighty. In another one, the Lord who rules over all. And
another one, Jehovah of Hosts. So the intent in this word is
that what he has to say is very, very highly important to the
church. And so we'll find it in this verse of scripture as
we found it throughout the book of Zechariah or all of the Old
Testament or New Testament. We look forward to again to see
the great benefits of resting, this passage of scripture, of
resting on the sure mercies of another. That's what these folks
are intending to do is rest on the sure mercies of another,
that they intend to grab something that belongs to another. And
that's what the church is constantly doing. We're constantly resting. We're constantly laying hold
of the Lord Jesus Christ. We're constantly resting. Him
so that's what these people it's the demonstration. It's a picture.
It's a type It's a shadow of what the church does with the
Lord Jesus Christ We we are in such need of everything and that's
what this also brings out that we're in need of everything We're
in need of a Resurrector Because we're dead We need someone to
raise us from the dead. It's an impossibility on our
part to do that. And we are in such need of a
Savior because we are without hope. By nature, we are without
hope. And we're going to find some
people, not everyone, but some people that are brought out of
the nations, brought out of every kindred, nation, people, and
tongue, that God Causes them to hear and to come and they
come and grasp one person out of all people They're gonna grasp
this one person. We're in such need of a leader
because we're lost We are in such need of a Redeemer because
we cannot pay the ransom The price is too dear and we cannot
pay it We are in such need of light because we're in such black
darkness not just darkness, but black darkness we're in such
need of water because we are dying of thirst and We are in
such need of light because we are so blind. And we're such
need of a hearing because we are so deaf. All of the things
that God requires, we're unable to do until the Lord gives this
in regeneration. All of these characteristics
and attributes that allow us to see, hear, and do. And the
list continues to go on as we study the scriptures. The need
that we have is brought out time and time again in the scriptures.
Now this first scripture, verse 23, I'd like to break this verse
down into its logical divisions. And we're just going to use that
as an outline, and we're going to spend our entire time here.
It really reminds me of that pastor that shared with us, I
have a little more meat on this bone, or I think there's a little
more meat on this bone. and on this particular passage
it is just so full of our need of a savior and what christ does
uh... to people in order for them to
come for them to come and grasp him to lay hands on him for he
is so important and so valuable now it tells us in this verse
of scripture the very first phrase says thus saith the lord of hosts
in those days now the rest of that phrase is in italics but
we want to look at that uh... secondly because It was put there
on purpose by the translators. It was not there in the original,
but the translators felt it would add clarity. But that thought
there in those days, now that is a space of time known only
unto God. When we find this passage of
Scripture, these words, it is a space of time, it's a measure
of time, but it's not a measure that we know of, it's a measure
that He knows of. And we find that only God has,
and it's only purposed by God, to use an unknown and unmeasurable
amount of time. To him, if it is already past
though, we find that he knows the end from the beginning. And
at the appropriate known time, what do we know about that? Paul
brings this out in the book of Galatians. when it pleased God. That's the time. So in those
days, now whenever this happens, God's grace is made apparent
to people. When this time arrives, God's
grace is made known to His elect. When this time arrives, wherever
they are, whatever nation, whatever language, wherever they're found,
God's word is made known unto them, and it's gonna be in those
days, immeasurable time, can't be put a finger on it but it
is known of god as if it is already passed and then we find that
blessed passage of scripture in Galatians chapter one and
there in verse fifteen when Paul mentions about his own salvation
when it pleased God so this is going to be when that's going
to take place when this fulfillment of it now it tells us it shall
come to pass and these are words that are added by the translators
but we also find that this truth is carried throughout the Scriptures.
Turn with me if you would to the Psalms. We're going to look
at two verses of Scripture in the Psalms. One is found in the
Psalm 115 and one is found in Psalm 135. So if you turn with
me to the Psalms in Psalm 115, we have this thought that it
shall come to pass, these words that were added, but it is a
truth that is found throughout the Scriptures. in those days
it shall come to pass something shall be fulfilled in God's good
time so here in Psalm 115 and there in verse 3 Psalm 115 verse
3 says but our God is in the heavens he hath done whatsoever
he hath pleased so when it pleased God at the right time it shall
come to pass now we looked at this a little bit this last sunday
when we looked at someone's here it was at the appointed time
it was at the right time now everything that has ever come
to pass in the history of this world has come to pass at the
right time on God's schedule now it may not have been on our
schedule but it came to pass at God's schedule everything
that has ever taken place everything that's been transpired in the
history of this world or in the future comes to pass at the right
time. Psalm 115, we just read that,
but our God is in the heavens. He hath done whatsoever He hath
pleased. And if you'll look with me just
10 short psalms later, in Psalm 135, in verse 6, we have a similar
verse of scripture that shares with us so much about our Savior,
about the Lord Jesus, about His purpose of grace, about what
He intends to do, and He doesn't share everything with us. but
he is going to carry out his purpose just as he intended in
the covenant of grace in the psalm 135 and there in verse
6, whatsoever the Lord pleased that did he in heaven and in
earth so when we move just a little further through this verse and
see some of the things that are going to take place we find that
we can go right back here and say this pleased God this pleased
God this is what God intended to do in those days it shall
come to pass it please god when these things took place that
we're going to see in this first or the rest of the bible there
were six finishing verses is whatsoever the lord please that
did he in heaven well hallelujah but it goes on to say and in
the earth and in the seas and all the deep places so it covers
everything that his that he does whatsoever he pleases so it's
going to be at the right time that this message is going to
strike home with some folks that are out in the hinterlands wherever
God intends for his gospel to go we also find in this passage
of scripture that ten men let's look at that going back to the
book of Zechariah Zechariah chapter eight in those days it shall
come to pass that ten men shall take hold
out of all languages of the nations." That ten men. Now, it was interesting
for me to look up this word and find out that this word doesn't
specifically mean ten people. This word comes to us from the
word that we get the word tithe, a tenth. Now, it doesn't mean
that there's just going to be a tenth of the people, but it's
telling us here in this verse of scripture that this ten is
used and it's an indefinite number, but it is a number known to God,
and it is a proportion. There is a part of. God is going
to deal with part of the world, just like He laid down in the
covenant of grace the names of His people that were put in the
Lamb's book of life. He is going to deal with part
of. He's not going to deal with everybody but he's going to deal
with part of. Now the gospel is to go out into
all the world and part of those that the gospel comes to God
has placed in good ground and they shall be saved. They shall
be brought just as we're going to read here about these folks
coming out of all over the world. God has them there on purpose
and he's going to bring them out. This ten is used as an indefinite
number denoting a great complete number. Now it's indefinite,
but it is a great complete number. God knows those that are His. That's a wonderful thing that
we read about in the New Testament. God knows those that are His. Nothing surprises him. People
are saved according to his purpose. People are saved because he purposed
that. And it tells us here that it
is much like the word seven that we find in the book of Isaiah
chapter 4 and verse 1. We're going to look at this in
two different aspects, but in the book of Isaiah chapter 4
and verse 1. The word seven is used here,
and it's an indefinite number. It isn't just, say, just seven
women, but is an indefinite number. Book of Isaiah, chapter four. Isaiah, chapter four. Now, I
cannot do justice to how this was preached at one time that
changed, really, my ministry. This verse of Scripture, when
he brought out, that man brought out, the spiritual application
of this verse of scripture. Now, I'd heard it so often in
a different context, and it was misapplied, misunderstood, and
it had no significance that as it does now. But notice here,
in this verse of scripture, there is an indefinite number, but
it's mentioned as the number seven. In that day, again, according
to God, in that day, seven women shall take hold of one man. Now
you can just imagine what people that don't have any interest
in the gospel would say about that. But look, let's look at
the rest of the verse. This is an indefinite number
that is significant because there is a whole number of people that
fall into this category. In fact, I was in this category,
didn't know what I was doing, but we will. They're going to
take hold of one man and they're saying this, we will eat our
own bread. and wear our own apparel. Now, this passage of Scripture
shows to us that the seven, this group of people, they have one
interest in Jesus Christ, and that is to make their religion
respectable. Because it goes on to tell us
in that verse of Scripture to take away our reproach, to make
our religion respectable. Now, we will not impose on you
on any other way, but we want your name. We will not take your
bread because we have our own. We have our own. manna we have
our own food from heaven well how good is that it's not good
it's rotten and it goes on to tell us there we'll have our
own apparel and that is so indicative of us in our self-righteous state
and religion is self-righteous state and mankind by nature in
a self-righteous state we have our own covering we don't need
yours we don't want yours but we do want respectability we
want to have our reproach taken away Well, it doesn't tell us
how many total this is, but it is certainly a number known to
God, but unknown to us how many fall into this, just as we find
over there that there were 10, 10 men out of these nations. Now, there's a passage of scripture
in the book of Luke chapter 17. Luke chapter 17, I think this
is kind of indicative of what we find when we preach the gospel
because it's an illustration that the Lord gave us. There
were 10 lepers mentioned in Luke chapter 17. Luke chapter 17,
we have 10 lepers. Now they all say the same thing
to begin with. Luke chapter 17 verse 11. Here's
that number 10. Now, here it is a specific number,
but it certainly points out to the whole. In Luke chapter 17
verse 11, 17 verse 11 it says and it came
to pass as he went to Jerusalem that he passed through the midst
of Samaria and Galilee and He entered into a certain village
there met him ten men that were lepers which stood afar off and
They lifted up their voices and said Jesus master have mercy
on us. So they're all saying the same
thing. They all have the same problem They're all in the same
place how much it is just like us and We all have the same problem. We're all in the same place.
And here we have the same problem. And they lifted up their voices
and said, Jesus, master, have mercy on us. And when he saw
them, he said unto them, go show yourselves unto the priests.
And it came to pass that as they went, they were cleansed. Now
God's miracle here to take away the disease that these men carried
in themselves. that they had. They were unclean.
They couldn't gather together with anybody else. They had to
stay with themselves. They were not to be around anybody
else. They had to cry out, unclean,
unclean, unclean. And here they cried out to the
Lord and the Lord delivered them from that disease. Now we're
going to find out as a result, too, there was one that went
beyond the natural disease. God dealt with one beyond his
natural disease of leprosy. The rest of them he dealt with
only in healing their bodies. Now, you know, it's wonderful
that medicine or a doctor or a diet or something can help
us with our ailments. But here we find out that these
had their ailments taken care of, but never had a word or a
thought towards God. That's the difference between
these ten over in the book of Zechariah, because they're way
out there in their disease, God calls them, and they come to
the right place. Now notice this, it goes on to
say, and go show yourself to the priest, and as they went,
they were cleansed. Well, that's the only thing we have. The priest
was the one that would declare them clean. Well, on the way,
one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back. That as they went, excuse me,
turned back and with a loud voice glorified God. Now, how glorious
is that? We're going to find that in Zechariah
chapter 23 or chapter 8 and verse 23 too. They come glorifying
God. God had worked a work of grace.
Not only had he cleansed his body, but he had done something
for him. He had changed him. He had given
him something that he could not attain on his own. You can't
change the disease of the body. That's up to God, too. But this
is far more valuable. He came glorifying God. How glorious is that, when a
person that is so used to railing on the very person of God, enmity
against God, can come and glorify Him. Something has taken place.
God has worked a work of grace here. And it says there, in verse
16, He fell down on His face, at His feet, giving Him thanks.
And He is a Samaritan. given Him thanks, fell down,
worshipped Him, worshipped the true and the living God, worshipped
the Lord Jesus Christ, worshipped Him in spirit and in truth. From the outside, we see Him
bound in His heart. He's bowed before God. God has
delivered Him, not only from this terrible, terrible disease,
but has delivered Him from a far greater disease, and that is
sin. Jesus answered and said, They're
not ten cleansed, but where are the nine? They there are not
found that return to give glory to God save this stranger They
had no interest in giving any glory to God about anything because
they were not touched in their heart They had their physical
healing And we're thankful that people get physical healing.
But oh my goodness, how much more important is it to have
spiritual healing, to have healing of the soul, to be delivered
from sin, to be delivered from the life that we have in sin,
the nature and so forth. So he brings that point up. One
come back. How did he come back? How did
he know where to come? He came back to Christ and bowed
down and worshiped Him. And the Lord Himself said there
were nine, but this only one came back glorifying God. Well,
we're going to find that going back to Zechariah. Here we have
ten men are drawn out, ten men are brought, an indefinite number.
Here we have a representation there by the one leper. He's 10%. I heard tell tonight
on a Zoom meeting, I don't think there's 10% gonna be saved in
our day. I don't know. I'd be thankful
if there were 10. I'd be thankful if there were
five. You know what? If God should say only one more
before he comes again, the glory to God in the highest will still
resound. glory to God alright as we look
at this we find that this these 10 in Zechariah chapter 8 and
verse 23 it says that 10 men shall take hold out of all languages."
Now this word is used twice in this verse of scripture. There's
an emphasis put on this of what they do. They take hold. There
it says they take hold out of all the languages. This is the
group that comes out of all the languages. This is what they're
going to do. They're going to take hold. And if we drop down there just
a little bit, it says, "...even shall take hold of the skirt
of him that is a Jew." They have an interest in taking hold of
the very person Christ Jesus. They have a very interest in
coming from afar to lay hold on this one. They are honing
in on this one, the Lord Jesus. He's the only one that can deliver
them from all of their ailments, spiritual ailments, the fall
and all the consequences of the fall. And so they're just like
a honing pigeon, they're headed directly toward I press towards
the mark of the high calling in Christ Jesus. There's one
person that they have an interest to go to and that is the Lord
Jesus. He's identified as a Jew and
we'll look at that in just a moment. But these that come out of all
the nations, they're going to take hold. They shall take hold,
or even shall take hold. And the same word is used twice
in here, and that word means to seize. To seize. It's more than just touching.
It's to seize, to grab a hold of. Oh, how valuable it is to
have faith granted to us by God Almighty to seize the Lord Jesus
Christ. And then we find out that He's
already seized us. He's already taken us. We have
that brought out. Well, this word is used a number
of times in scripture, translated a little bit different, and I
want us to look at a couple of those. One of them is found in the book
of Genesis chapter 19. Now in Genesis chapter 19, the
Lord stayed and visited with Abraham. And Abraham was pleading
for Sodom and Gomorrah. He said, would you spare if there
were 50? Don't be upset with me, Lord,
but would you spare if there's 40? And on we go. Here in the
book of Genesis, chapter 19. Now, while Abraham, while Abraham is being an emissary,
a representative for the folks down there in Sodom and Gomorrah,
these angels go down there Genesis chapter 19. These angels go down
there and there's a man in that city that needs to be delivered.
His name is Lot. I like what we find over in the
New Testament about Lot. He's called justified. A lot
of people look at him, look where he's living. He's justified.
Well, look what he's doing. Who's around? He's justified.
He's justified before God. God justified him. He is made. He is given. God has given him the righteousness
of Christ. And he is justified. Now, he
is in a perilous place. God is going to destroy this
city, but he can't do it. How wonderful it is to just think
about that. He can't do it until this one
man is taken out. Now he's going to have his two
daughters and his wife taken out with him. But notice what
these angels do to him. Here in the book of Genesis chapter
19 and verse 14. Scripture says, And Lot went
out and spakened to his sons-in-law, which married his daughters,
and said, Up, get you out of this place, for the Lord will
destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked
unto his sons-in-law. Can you hear that from Noah?
Can you hear that from Abraham? Can you hear that from Moses, Joshua, Paul? They mocked him. They mocked
him. They made fun of what he had
to say. We've been here all our life. Nothing like that's ever
happened. and then it tells us in verse 15 and when the morning
arose then the angel hastened Lot saying arise take thy wife
and thy two daughters which are here lest thou be consumed in
the iniquity of the city and while he lingered the men laid
hold upon his hand now that's that same word that we find there
they shall take hold they're gonna grasp they grasped Lot
by the hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand
of his two daughters, and the Lord being merciful unto him,
and they brought him forth and set him without the
city this is that word grasp thank god that those angels those
men caught him by the hand and grasped him out of the city hey
they laid hold on him now this is the picture that we have with
regard to these who come out of these nations as they hear
the word of god as they hear the gospel as they hear about
christ as they're brought their attention is brought upon him
they come They want to lay hold of him. They want to lay hold
on Christ. And then they find out that they've
already been laid hold on, just as we read here. And then there's
another place we just read about it. There in the book of Isaiah,
chapter 4 and verse 1, it says, In that day seven women shall
take hold. They grasped this man. They laid
hands on him. Well, many in that day shall
say, Lord, Lord, but it doesn't have any effect for I knew none
of you. This is the word, that's the
meaning. They take hold, they shall take hold. It's the meaning
is to seize, to grab, to grasp, to lay hold upon. The men laid
hold, and so it is here. Now, we notice here, back in
the book of Zechariah, chapter 8 and verse 23, the ten men shall
take hold out of all languages of the nations. Isn't that a
wonderful thought? That not one of The elect of
God, it doesn't matter where they have gone, where their parents
moved to, where their grandparents moved to, or where they left
to try to run away from family or friends or whatever reason,
that they're out there in the nations, in the world, and yet
God is going to deal with them. They're going to come, as it
says there, out of all languages of the nations. There's a wonderful
verse of scripture over here in the book of Revelation, chapter
5. Revelation, chapter 5. I had
a young man talk to me today, and he's thinking about going
through the book of Revelation. Some people have requested him
to do that. And I said, well, you want to remember one thing
about the book of Revelation? Revelation chapter 1 verse 1,
the revelation of Jesus Christ. This book is about him. He's
the theme, he's the title, he's the substance. Well, here in
the book of Revelation chapter 5, there in verse 9, we find
that there's been a redemption. Revelation chapter 5 and verse
9. And they sung a new song, saying,
Thou art worthy to take the book and to open the seals thereof.
Now, the church is thankful to God that every time there's ever
been an issue, the Lord Jesus Christ has been the answer. Every
spiritual issue, Christ is the answer. Goes on to say, for thou
wast slain. We recognize that fact. You were
slain on my behalf. You were the ransom price paid
and hast redeemed us. You paid the price, ransomed,
redeemed us to God by thy blood. The redemption price, the redeemer's
payment price was his blood, his life. We've been redeemed
us to God we've been paid in full the blood of Christ paid
in full our Ransom price the Redeemer actually redeemed us
ransomed us but go on and look at their out of every kindred
Now the Lord may leave us in the same town, but we're brought
out of that place Spiritually, we're out of every kindred and
tongue, and people, and nation. So wherever these people are
scattered, wherever these ten are scattered, wherever they
are, we're going to find out that the word will get to them
and they will come. They're going to be brought out
of Now, as I said, the Lord may leave us in the geographical
place, but he will not leave us like we were. We are brought
to Christ. We grasp Christ and then find
out that he's grasped us. He has his hands on us. He will
not leave us nor forsake us. He will not put us away. So,
how glorious we find that this is, that out of every nation,
kindred, people, and tongue. Now, what shall they take hold
of? What shall they take hold of?
Back there in the book of Zechariah, the book of Zechariah chapter
8, what shall they take hold of? Zechariah chapter 8 verse 23, it says there,
they shall be brought out of all nations, these ten men shall
take hold out of all languages of nations, even take hold of
the skirt of him that is a Jew. What are they going to grab for?
The skirt. Now we say, well, that's not
very manly. Well, let's just think about what they wore in
their day and time. And we find out that there was a woman that
touched the hem of his garment. But before we get there, let's
turn back to the Book of Ruth, because this word plays an important
part in Ruth's life. Ruth, she was out there in the
hinterlands. She was in one of the languages
of the nations. She was there, that's where she
was born, that's where she was raised, and that's where she
did her religious oblations. She did it like her father and
mother did until she heard the gospel. until her mother-in-law
shared with her the gospel, her father-in-law, her husband, her
brother-in-law, some people who knew something about the gospel.
So she's out there, she's a Moabitess, but she comes to Israel. And here in the book of Ruth,
Ruth chapter 3, the book of Ruth chapter 3, We have this account. I'm not going to call it a story
because stories are often, well, they don't have the significance
of being true. But this is a true story. This
actually happened. Ruth chapter 3 verse 7. Ruth
chapter 3 and verse 7. She told her mother-in-law when
her mother-in-law was going to head back home, your God is my
God. Where you die, I'll die. Where
you live, I'll live. All those things. What an indication
that God had worked a work of grace. And so, it tells us here
in Ruth chapter 3, verse 7. Chapter 3 and verse 7. And when
Boaz had eaten. Now, we're kind of breaking into
the middle of a chapter. You'll need to read chapter 1,
2, and 3 up to this point. But for right now, when Boaz
had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie
down at the end of the heap of corn. pile of wheat in there. And she came softly and uncovered
his feet and laid her down. And it came to pass at midnight
that the man was afraid, and he turned himself, and behold,
a woman lay at his feet. And he said, Who art thou? And
she answered, I am Ruth thy handmaid. Spread therefore thy skirt over
thine handmaid." Notice that. Spread your skirt over your handmaid. This was a very important act
that Boaz did on the behalf of Ruth. She had had this Her mother-in-law
said, go, go. He's the near kinsman. Go to him. Grab his skirt. And when that happens, put your
skirt over thy handmaid, for thou art a near kinsman. This
is a symbol of protection. This is a symbol of being invited. This is a symbol of all of this.
Put your skirt over me. And then it tells us there, And
he said, Blessed be thou of the Lord, my daughter, for thou hast
showed more kindness in the latter end than in the beginning, inasmuch
as thou followest not young men, whether poor or rich. She needed
a kinsman-redeemer. It didn't matter about this other. Good-looking, profitable, but
she came to someone who could help her out of the problem she
was in. And now, my daughter, fear not. I will do to thee all that thou
request. For all the city of my people
doth know that thou art a virtuous woman. And now it is true that
I am thy near kinsman, albeit there is a kinsman nearer than
I. And if the rest of the story tells us what took place, he
couldn't claim her, because he would mar his own inheritance.
But as she went there, she recognized the fact that if this man took
his skirt and threw over her. This meant we're going to be
married. We're going to have this relationship
and how blessed it is when the Lord Jesus throws his skirt over
the church and we realize we've been accepted in the beloved.
Our near kinsman, our Redeemer has brought us to a position
that we're inheritors with him. in the book of the Psalms the
books of the Psalms now this word is translated many many
times in the book of the Psalms as wings like the wings of a
dove it covers the body of the dove well here in the book of
the Psalms we have a number of times we think about this very
thing about the Lord Jesus as being the one that covers us
with his wings Psalm Psalm 17 verse 8 Psalm 17 verse 8 as we
have this they're going to grab hold of the skirt They're going
to grab a hold of something that covers. They're going to grab
a hold of someone that cares. Here in Psalm 17 and verse 8,
the Scriptures share this. Keep me as the apple of thine
eye. Hide me under the shadow of thy
wings. Now God didn't have wings. But
this is such a beautiful picture of being covered, as Boaz covered
Ruth, as the Lord covers us with His robe, as He covers us with
His righteousness, as He imputes to us what we did not have and
could not have on our own. He gives to us, He covers us,
and He's the only one. And how blessed it is when God's
people cry out for that. to realize that what we have
is not sufficient, but what you have is sufficient. So it's like
being covered with the wings. And again in that same book,
the Psalms, Psalm 91, Psalm 91, this is brought out again, this
picture, this glorious picture of the Lord with His people as
a hen doth cover her chicks. Here in the book of the Psalms,
Psalm 91, it tells us in verse 4 there, Psalm 91 verse 4, it
says, He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wing
shalt thou trust. His truth shall be thy shield
and buckler. What a glorious picture. Under
his wing shall you trust. To be covered, to be covered
with this skirt, to be covered with this robe, and then in the
book of Daniel this word is used when Daniel is speaking about he uses the word over spreading
book of Daniel Daniel chapter 9 verse 27 the
same word is used here but it's used in a different manner and
it kind of shares with us that it's going to be covering over
it's over covering here in the book of Daniel chapter 9 verse
27 and just think about this in the sense that these that
are brought out of the nations of the languages of the nations
Jews and Gentiles brought out of the languages of the nations
where they come they come to the skirt they lay hold of that
which could cover them and here in the book of Daniel chapter
9 verse 27 this word is used this way it says He shall confirm
the covenant with many for one week and in the midst of the
week He shall cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease and for
the over Spreading now just think of that about the robe of righteousness
the skirt of the Lord Jesus over spray covering over you Well,
we need it all over us not one stitch of our righteousness can
be incorporated in it We need the over spreading completely
covering nothing left nothing out so here we have these that
are brought out of all these nations of the people of the
languages of the nations are brought to one place to the skirt
now notice this going back to the book of Zechariah we look
here in the book of Zechariah chapter eight towards the end
of that verse of scripture and it says they shall take hold
of the skirt they shall take hold of the skirt the overspreading
like the wings like the skirt covering Ruth there Boaz a skirt
covering her Symbolizing you're covered. I'm your kinsman Redeemer. I'll do what's required. I'll
do what's necessary to redeem you and here we have of Him that
who is this? Who is this woman? Where are
they coming? They're coming to a Jew saying
We will go with you For we have heard that God is with you." We're going to go with you, this
Jew. Now, you remember what the wise
man came asking Herod of? Where is he that is born King
of the Jews? Remember that? Well, we also
find he was asked Aren't thou king of the Jews? That's what
Pilate asked him. Aren't thou king of the Jews?
And we find him saying, Thou sayest, Yes, I am. We find that the Lord Jesus spoke
to the woman at the well and said, Salvation is of the Jews. Now it's not the Jewish religion. but it is God's spiritual Israel
that appreciate and are given the blessings of the covenant,
the blessing of the everlasting covenant. Do you remember what
was written above the cross? This is the accusation held against
the Lord Jesus. This is the crime that he had
committed. This is the one that was punishable
by death. This is Jesus. let me get this right but he
is Jesus of Nazareth the king of the Jews now the Apostle Paul
wrote to the Romans and said he is not a Jew that's one outwardly
but he's a Jew that's one inwardly that's a true Jew now people
don't come to us as spiritual Israel they come to the true
the Lord Jesus Christ, the one appointed. Now there's a passage
of scripture over the book of Isaiah chapter 65 and I want
you to turn there. My time is about up and I'd like
to read this passage of scripture. In Isaiah chapter 65 beginning
with verse 6 Jesus Christ is the only true
appointed Savior. He's the only true Savior. He's
the only Redeemer. And that's where these folks
are headed. They're drawn by the Spirit to
come to Christ. They're not drawn to come to
doctrine. They're not drawn to come to
a church. They're not drawn to ordinances.
They're not drawn to any of these things that are so often looked
at They are drawn to Christ. That's who John pointed his disciples
to. Behold, the Lamb of God was taken
away the sin of the world. We're drawn to Christ. We're
drawn to Christ in the scriptures. We're drawn to Christ in prophecy.
We're drawn to Christ in his ministry and whatever he had
to say. So here in the book of Isaiah, chapter 65, and beginning
with verse 6, it says, Behold, it is written before me, I will
not keep silence, but will recompense, even recompense into your bosom. Your iniquities and the iniquities
of your fathers together, saith the Lord, which have burned incense
upon the mountain, and blaspheme me upon the hills. Therefore will I measure their
former work into their bosom. Thus saith the Lord. As the new
wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not,
for a blessing is in it, so will I do for my servant's sake, that
I may not destroy them all. I will bring forth a seed out
of Jacob and out of Judah. I will bring forth a seed. Now,
the word Jew comes from the word Judah. this son of Jacob, Judah,
the lion of the tribe of Judah. The lion of the tribe of Judah
is the Lord Jesus. It goes on to say, I will bring
forth a seed out of Jacob and out of Judah, an inheritor of
my mountains, and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants
shall dwell there. I will bring forth a seed." Now
it's no wonder that people are drawn out of the languages of
the nations and grab a hold of the skirt of this one because
he is the elect of God and in him all other people that are
ever going to be born again Jesus Christ died for as his elect. So he is the true one, and he's
the one that these are drawn to, and they're brought to, and
they lay hold of, and they come to him for all their covering,
for all their hope, everything. And then they say, we will go
with you. Now we're gonna leave this tonight
with this one verse, and Lord willing, we'll come back here
and finish this verse up next time. But can two walk together
except they be agreed? That's what we read in the book
of Amos. We will go with you. What does that mean? That the
people that are going are in agreement with the one that is
going. We are brought to agreement with God. We are settled upon
this. That his word is the truth. that
his word is our life and we will not argue with it we will not
fight with it we will not fight with the Lord Jesus Christ in
his word we are satisfied I will go with you and then we find
out we're being carried I will go with you and then the latter
part of that is for we have heard that God is with you. And what
a blessing it is to look at those verses of scripture, the relationship
between God the Son and God the Father. God is with you. God has blessed you. So we'll
look at that the next appointed time, Lord Willie. Maybe next
Wednesday, Lord Willie. So we will close with these words. May God richly bless. and may we see each other again
soon.
