Good morning. Let's all stand
together and sing hymn number 485. 485. We praise thee, O God, for the
Son of thy love, for Jesus who died and is now gone above. ? Hallelujah, thine the glory
? ? Hallelujah, amen ? ? Hallelujah, thine the glory ? ? Revive us
again ? ? We praise thee, O God ? for thy
spirit of light. You have shown us our Savior
and scattered our night. Alleluia, Thine the glory. Alleluia, amen. Alleluia, Thine the glory. Revive us again. All glory and praise to the Lamb
that was slain, who has borne all our sins and has cleansed
every stain. ? Hallelujah, thine the glory
? ? Hallelujah, amen ? ? Hallelujah, thine the glory ? ? Revive us
again ? ? Revive us again ? Fill each heart
with Thy love. May each soul be rekindled with
fire from above. Be seated. We'll sing 236. Number 236. Amazing Grace, How sweet the sound That saved
a wretch like me I once was lost But now am found Was blind But
now I see, was grace that taught my heart to fear. And grace my fears relieved How
precious did that grace appear I first believed. Through many dangers, toils and
snares, I have already come. Tis grace hath brought me safe
thus far, and grace will lead me home. When we've been there ten thousand
years White shining as the sun We've no less days to sing God's
praise than when we'd first begun. Mark chapter 15. Mark chapter
15. I'm going to start reading at
verse 15 down to verse 32. And so Pilate, willing to content
the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus,
when he had scourged, to be crucified. And the soldiers led him away
into the hall, called Praetorium. And they called together the
whole band, and they clothed him with purple, and plaited
a crown of thorns, and put it upon his head, and began to salute
him, Hail, King of the Jews. And they smote him on the head
with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees,
worshipped him. And when they had mocked him,
They took off the purple from him, put his own clothes on him,
and led him away, led him out to crucify him. And they compelled
one Simon, a Cyrenian, who passed by coming out of the country,
the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross. And they bring
him unto the place of Golgotha, which is being interpreted the
place of a skull. And when they gave him to drink,
wine mingled with myrrh, but he received it not. When they
had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon
him, whatever man should take. It was the third hour, and they
crucified him. And the superscription of his
accusation was written over the king of the Jews, And with him
they crucified two thieves, one on his right hand and the other
on his left. And the scripture was fulfilled,
which said he was numbered with the transgressors. And they that
passed by knelt on him, wagging their heads, and saying, O thou
that destroyest the temple and builded it in three days, save
thyself. come down from the cross. Likewise,
also the chief priests, mocking, said among themselves with the
scribes, he saved others, himself he cannot save, that Christ,
the King of Israel, descend now from the cross, that we may see
and believe. And they that were crucified
with him reviled him. Our Father, oh, our blessed,
blessed Father in heaven, we know you're holy. We know
you're righteous. We know you're full of glory,
a glory that we can't comprehend, a glory that one day we'll see
for ourselves. Glory, Lord, that you made manifest
in your Son while he was on this earth. Lord, reveal yourself to us today. Reveal some of these blessed
truths to our hearts. Make them real. Make them vital.
Make them precious. Make them powerful. Make them
those that don't know you to feel their need of you. Oh, God,
cause people to feel their need. We all have a need. All of us
do. But some know it. Some come to
you to fulfill that need, but there's others that don't know
they have a need. They don't know how lost they
are. They don't know how sinful they are. They don't know how
self-righteous they are. They don't know how proud they
are. The Lord, you do. Oh, God, please, for Christ's
sake, open hearts, cause people to feel their need. Lord, I pray
for my children, oh, my children, and the children of those people
represented in this building. God, all of us want to see our
sons, our daughters brought to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. But oh, Lord, the fact that you
saved us and called us out of this awful, mean, cruel world,
that means that you can do it for them. And we ask that you
will please be gracious and merciful. Lord, please cause the gospel
to run well, and those that are not with us through sickness,
through providence, without the ability to come,
I pray that your blessings be upon them. Please have mercy
on us today. Pray in glory to yourself. Make
these scriptures real. real, real, real, and make them
precious to us. For Christ's sake, amen. Let's stand together and sing
the hymn of the day in the bulletin. ? To thy presence we repair ? Lord
we love to worship there ? When within the veil we meet ? Christ
the Lord Our mercy seek Thou through him art reconciled We
through him become Thy child Abba, Father, give us grace in
thy courts to see thy face. While thy glorious praises sound,
touch our lips Unloose our tongues that are joyful, so they bless
Christ the Lord, our righteousness While we listen to thy word Fill
our souls with sovereign love From thy house when we return
May our hearts within us burn. And that evening, let us say,
we have walked with God today. Be seated. If you understand to some degree
who the Lord Jesus Christ is, how glorious He is, how powerful
and how gracious He is, then you see how depraved, how wicked
men are that when they get their hands on God manifest in the
flesh, they treat him so cruelly, so violently. The most gentle man, the most
holy man, the most gracious man, the most loving man is treated so cruelly, so cruelly,
so cruelly. But the title of my subject this
morning, or my message, is Hail, King of the Jews. And there in verse 15, it says,
so Pilate, people just kept pressuring him and pressuring him and pressuring
him to release Barabbas and delivered unto them. delivered Jesus, after he released
them, he delivered Jesus, and he escorched him, beat him on
both sides of his back, to be crucified. And Pilate knew that
they were crucifying an innocent man. He asked there, back up
in verse 14, he says, why, what evil hath he done? What evil
hath he done? He didn't commit murder like
Barabbas did. He's not a robber like Barabbas
was. He's not like that two people
that's crucified on either side of him. He's not, he's done nothing
worthy of death. Why, what evil hath he done?
He scourged him. He is afraid of losing his power.
Now, you keep Mark 15, but I want you to look in John chapter 19
with me. I want you to see what happened
to him that caused him to act this way. In chapter 19, verse 10. Then
Pilate, saith unto him, Speakest thou
not unto me? knowest thou not that I have
power, the authority, to crucify you, and have power to release
you? Jesus answering, Thou couldst
have no power against me, except it were given thee from above.
Therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath a greater sin.
And from this force Pilate sought to release him. But the Jews
cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not a friend
of Caesar's. Whosoever maketh himself a king
speaketh against Caesar." That got him right there. When he
said that, when he heard that, that you're not a friend against
Caesar because this man made him king, that's when he gave
up. I'll lose my position. I'll lose my position. And he
scourged him. He scourged him. And remember,
he was wounded when they scourged him. He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquity. And by those stripes that was
on his back, by those very stripes, we're healed. We're healed by
those stripes. And they scorched him, and the
scriptures tells us that he was the just, he was delivered the
just for the unjust, put to death in the flesh, and this is the
reason why, that he might bring us to God. What's happening here
is the only way we could be brought to God is through the death of
our Lord Jesus Christ. No other way. Could we be brought
to God? A man told me the other day,
he asked me the other day, I said, he said, I believe if I was the
only man on this earth that was a sinner, that Christ would have
still had to die for me in order to save me. And I said, that's
exactly right. If there had been one sinner
left on this earth, which one, it would have took the same death
to save that man as it did to save a multitude. That's a man
that knows something about God. That's a man that knows something
about grace. That's a man that knows something about his sin.
And oh, look what happens now here at verse 16. And the soldiers led him away
into the hall. Corporatorium and they called
together the whole band So after they had scorched him they let
him out from the presence of pilot out of the presence of
all the people now our Lord Jesus Christ when the mob come to get
him in Gethsemane they led him away and they led him to Caiaphas
and Then they led him over to pilot And then Pilate, they led
him over to Herod. And now he's led by the soldiers. It shows us that our Lord Jesus
Christ, look how submissive he is. You took me to be a prisoner. You took me to be a criminal.
And I will not resist you. I will not defend myself. I will
not resist you in any way. I will not do that. And oh my,
and that hall of Pretorium, that's just a hall, a judgment hall
that they had there where the Roman government was. And our
Lord, when he is led from one to another, considered himself
to be, they considered him to be a prisoner, considered him
to be a captive, and he let them do what they wanted to do to
him. And look at this now, I want you to see this. They called
together the whole band, Now, when a whole band of soldiers,
a lot of times it meant several thousand, but in this particular
situation, it might have been a squad, what we'd call in the
Marine Corps, squad, or a platoon, 25 people, or squad, 12 people.
But whatever it was, the whole band, they said they got all
the soldiers together, and they all gathered around this man.
They called him, come on, come on, come over here, come over
here, y'all get around here. And oh, my. And they gather around our Lord
Jesus Christ. These are soldiers. I mean, the
best that they had. The best that they had. And they
gather around our Lord Jesus Christ. Oh, rough soldiers. Oh, rough men. Sadistic men. And they gather, a whole bunch
of them gather around our Lord Jesus Christ. Gathered around
him. And you know what they gathered
around him to do? To make sport of him. To make sport of him. To mock him. Ridicule him. And oh my, this is the first
thing they did when they got him. They clothed him with purple. They'd already taken his clothes
off. Matthew 27 says they took his clothes off of him. So he's
standing there. And they take a purple robe and
they put around him. And the reason they put a purple
robe around him is because they're mocking him as being king. Purple and blue is the colors
of a king. And this is a royal color. And you see these people, they'll
have a cross stuck out somewhere and then this purple scarf hanging
around it. They didn't hang it around his
cross, they hung it around him. They put a purple robe on him.
Why would they put a purple robe on him? Because they wanted to
mock him as being king. Oh, a king's gotta wear a robe.
And we just happen to have one around here. It might have been
an old sire robe that one of them soldiers wore. It might
have had tatters in it or something, but they put it on him and wrapped
him in that purple robe. Oh my, took his clothes off of
him, put on a royal, put on that purple robe. And then look what
they done after they done that. They planted a crown of thorns. Planted a crown of thorns. You
know, the first time thorns is mentioned in the Bible was after
Adam's fall. And God put him outside the garden,
and you know what he said? He said, the crown will now be
cursed for thy sake. It'll bring forth thorns and
thistles. And they took thorns, evidence
of the fall, evidence of how bad it was after Adam fell. They took a crown of thorns,
planted it all together, and they took it and pushed it down,
pushed it down on his head. pushed it down on his head. But
oh, we sang that song, bring forth the royal diadem and crown
him Lord of all. They took a crown of thorns and
oh my, when they put that crown of thorns on him, I'm going to
tell you something. Our Lord Jesus Christ, the way
they picture him in these pictures and stuff, it's not He was a
bloody mess already. His bones were showing in his
back. And when they put that crown of thorns on his head,
they got into his head all around. And blood started ripping down
on his cheeks, down on his forehead, probably down on his face, down
on his neck. Blood was pouring down on him,
dripping down through those piercings. blood fell on his face and neck.
And they wanted to torture him. Can you imagine how cruel it
is, the things that they do? Whenever you don't have to answer
for what you do, whenever you're allowed, this is what men, I've
seen this, I saw this in war, I've saw it in people, when you
have no consequences, and you're allowed to do what you can possibly
do, and nobody has to, you don't have to answer to nobody for
it. It's unbelievable how cruel the human race can be when you
don't have to answer for it. And these men didn't have to
answer for this. They'll have to answer one day. They wanted
to torture him. They wanted to mock him. And
look what they did. And they began to salute him. Hail, King! Hail, King! Hail, King! Hail, King! Hail, King! They all began to
salute him. All hail, King of the Jews! They
began to salute him. I remember one time I was in
the rear of Vietnam in a place called Dong Ha, and I seen this
officer coming. Of course, I hadn't shaved, had
long hair, and just come out of the bush. And that officer
was coming, and I turned and went around this way, you know,
to get around him so I wouldn't have to salute him. I didn't
like to salute him. I didn't like him at all. Boy,
he caught me to attention right then and there. He saw me trying
to dodge. I had to salute him. Had to salute
him. I had to do it. But these fellows
are saluting Christ to make fun of him, to mock him, to mock
him. And oh, my, they wanted to torch
him. And they said, hail, king of
the Jews. Lifted up their hands, made fun
of him. Hail, king of the Jews. And oh, my. And look what else
they did. And it says there in verse 19,
they smote him on the head with a reed and it spin upon him and
bowing their knees and worshiped him. Not only did they mock him
and salute him as hail king of the Jews, but now look with me
over in Matthew 27. In Matthew 27, I want you to
see this with me. This shows you something. Matthew
27, verse 29. Oh, my. Verse 28, it says, They stripped
him and put on him a scarlet robe. And when they had plaited
a crown of thorns, they put upon his head, and listen to this
now, and they put a reed in his right hand. A stick. That's a stick. And they bowed the knee before
him, mocking him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews. But they, I
wanted to show you that they put that reed in his right hand.
You know, a king has to have a scepter. to what they gave
him for a scepter. Stick. Handed him a stick. Said a king got to have a scepter.
And he got to have a purple robe. And so that's why I went over
there to say that, to say this. Now back over in Mark 15. So they took that reed out of
his hand. They had to take it out of his
hand. They said they had it in his hand. They put it in his
hand. It's his scepter. And they took that reed out of
his hand, and they began to hit him. Hit him on the head. And you know, when they would
hit him, that caused that crown of thorns to go deeper, go harder. Bust him on the top of his head.
Hit him on the top of his head. And while they would hit him,
they would spit in his face. And look what happened now. And
they, in bowing their knees, they worshiped him. I think what
happened was that those king, those soldiers, every one of
them, every one of them would get before him and bow the knee
and take that scepter and get up, hit him on the head, spit
in his face, hand it to the next fellow, and he'd do the same
thing. Get on his knees, get up, spit in his face, and hit
him on the head. I believe that whole band done that. That whole
band done that. They bowed the knee like, oh
my, you're somebody, we'll even bow the knee to you. We'll act
like you're really a king. And oh my, they hit him, took
the reed out of his hand, and hit him, hit him, hit him on
the head, and bowing their knees, worshiped him. And that's a mock
worship, you know that as well as I do. And oh my, every time
they got up, They spit in his face. Every time they got off
their knees, they spit in his face. Can you imagine a bunch
of men spitting in your face? Everybody get real excited sometimes,
and you know, and they get close to you, and they, you know, they
spit, and, but oh my. That's one of the, that shows
you how much disrespect. When somebody spits in your face,
they're telling you, I don't like you, I despise you. You're not worth nothing but
being spit in your face. I have no regard for you, have
no respect for you. And oh my, when they busted him
on the head, that made the crown hurt worse. And oh, here he said,
he let himself be mocked. He let himself be hit. And they
hit him on the head with their own scepter. In verse 20, and
when they had mocked him, mocked him. There's such a bunch of bullies
here. And when they had mocked him,
and all they possibly could, they got tired of it, got cruel,
was so sadistic. And they took off the purple
from him, and look what it took off that robe, and they put his
own clothes on him. and led him out to be crucified. They put, it says they put his
clothes on him. Put them on him. And they led
him, and there he goes again. This is the fifth leading that
he's had. Where they gonna lead him to? They gonna lead him outside
Jerusalem. They gonna lead him out to a
place called Calvary, a place called the Skull, a place called
Golgotha, And they're going to take him out there. They're leading
him to the place where they're going to kill him. Come on, Father, you know, come
on. And they took him right to where his cross was. Right to
where they're going to kill him. Right to where they're going
to kill him. Oh my. And oh my, you think about how
low a person is to spit on Christ. bow the knee like a mock worshipper,
rise up, spit in his face. They're having fun. They're having
fun. And they'd done that to that
face, that face that the glory of God revealed him. It's in
the face of Christ that we see the glory of God in the spit. Oh, how dark is man's mind, how
dark is his soul, how dark is the depth of his depravity. People are so capable of what
they're allowed to do and get by with. And they're doing this
to the one that made them, that created them, that gave him the
right to do this, gave them the ability to do this. Oh, I tell you, God's Word, God's
Word does not never, it's how faithful is God and how precious
is His Word. Everything that happened to our
Lord Jesus Christ was prophesied of hundreds and thousands of
years before it ever happened. Thousands of years before it
ever happened. And all right down to the minutest
detail, They told him they'd hang him wine. They told him
they'd hang him gall mixed with vinegar. They told about how
that they'd smite him, how they'd pluck off his beard. They told
how he'd be wounded. They told how that he'd be born. Everything about our Lord on
the cross was predicted. Read Psalm 22, and you'll find
out everything is so predicted. Oh, look in John 19. Keep Mark
now, but keep looking John 19. This is... This is, you know,
I wished I could deal with this the way it ought to be dealt
with. Look what it says in verse 28, John 19, 28. After this, Jesus, knowing that
all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled,
saith I thirst. And it said that. It said that
about him. And I want to show you something
else. Look in, he was delivered by the determinant counsel for
knowledge of God. Look in Acts chapter four. Look
in Acts chapter four. Everything about our Lord was
prophesied In Acts chapter 4, look what
it says over here about our Savior. Verse 25, verse 24, excuse me,
verse 24, Acts 4, 24. And when they had lifted up their
voice to God with one accord and said, Lord, which made heaven and earth and
the sea, and all that in them is, who by the mouth of thy servant
David hath said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people
imagine vain things? That's out of Psalm 2. The kings
of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together
against the Lord and against his Christ. for of a truth against
thy holy child Jesus whom thou hast anointed both Herod and
Pontius Pilate with the Gentiles and the people of Israel were
gathered together. Now listen to this. For to do
whatsoever thy hand and counsel determined before to be done. Everything that he said right
up to that time. You determined that this was
going to be done. And so God is true to His word. Our Lord knew He was true to
His word. And there was a place appointed
for Him. They bring Him. They bring Him.
And look what it says now in verse 21. In John it says He carried His
own cross, but But all the rest of them say, and they compel
one Simon a Cyrenian who came out of the country, the father
of Alexander and Rufus to bear his cross. You know, our Lord
Jesus Christ, why would he call him to somebody to bear his cross?
He has been, he has apprehended at night. And then he's been
up all night. And in the morning, they take
him to Pilate and Pilate mistreats him. And then at nine o'clock
in the morning, they take him out and they carry him to the
place that he's going to go. He's been going through this
for about 18 or 19 hours. He's been beaten. He's been mocked. He's been spat upon. So you imagine
how weak bodily he is. He's got the cup in his hand
that the father gave him. He's got that cup that he said,
if it bled, it passed. He got that cup in his hand.
He says, now, I'm drinking that cup right now. I'm drinking that
cup of derision. I'm drinking that cup of mockery.
I'm drinking that cup of deprayal. I'm drinking that cup of hatred
and rejection. I'm drinking that cup of the
wrath of God and the sins of my people. I'm drinking that
cup right now. I'm drinking that cup. Oh, my. And they bring him unto the place
Golgotha, which is being interpreted. Oh, my. And look what this went on down.
And they gave him wine and drank and mingled. But he wouldn't
take it. He said, I don't want to take
it. And I'll tell you what. Look what happens now. And when they had crucified him,
when they crucified him, they done nailed him to the tree.
They take them spikes, took them big nails, put them through his
feet, put them through his hands. He's a bloody mess hanging there.
A bloody, bloody mess. And look what they done. They
parted his garments. Parted his garments. But I want
you to look down here in verse... It was the third hour and they
crucified him, nine o'clock in the morning. And the superscription
was written over the king of the Jews. Now, he had a place
appointed for him. Look down verse 27. And with him, they crucified
two thieves, the one on his right hand, the other on his left. As the scripture was fulfilled,
he was numbered with the transgressors. Now I want you to notice these
things. I'm gonna deal with a couple other things here before I get
to the end of this. Oh my. Our Lord Jesus Christ. It says here, they pass by. Two things that
the scriptures might be fulfilled. Ain't that what it says? And
the scripture was fulfilled. Scripture was fulfilled. And they passed by. Oh, they
made such derision out of him. Derided him. Made fun of him. And they that passed by railed
on him. They wagged their heads at him.
Just shaked their heads at him in derision. And saying, all
you that destroy us the temple, build us it in three days, they
railed on him, made fun of him, said all kinds of evil things
to him. And all listen to this now. Save
thyself. Save thyself. And come down from
the cross. There's one thing Christ could
not do, and God could not do. He could not have saved his son,
saved Christ, and Christ could not have saved himself and saved
us. He couldn't have done it. He
could not save himself. Save yourself! That's what most
of us do. I'm like water. I take the path
of least resistance. By nature, I'm very lazy. And
I tell you, listen, our Lord, if He could have saved Himself,
you think He would have saved Himself from it? He said, Father,
for this hour I came into the world. Father, not my will but
Thine be done. Oh, Lord. And I tell you, He
couldn't do that and save us. And look what else they said
about Him. Likewise, in verse 31, likewise, also the chief
priest, mocking, mocking him, said among themselves with the
scribes, he saved others. He saved others. Himself, he
cannot save. He cannot save. Oh, my, he did save others. He
saved me, I'm one of them that he saved. He saved others, Zacchaeus, he
saved Zacchaeus, saved Bartimaeus. He saved lepers. He saved the
woman at the well. He saved others. Oh my, himself,
he cannot save. Oh my, and this, listen to this
now. And let Christ the King of Israel,
this is what they told him, let Christ the King of Israel descend
now from the cross that we may see and believe. And they that
were with crucified with him revived. Now I want you to notice
this. It says that they see and believe. If he would have come off that
cross, you know what they said? If you get off that cross, if
you're the king, you get off that cross, and we see you get
off that cross, we'll become believers. In other words, we
got to see before we can believe. You know, there was men, the
rich man that went to hell, This is what he said, he said, let
Lazarus, that fella sit outside my gate, that poor man, let Lazarus
dip his finger in water and just give me a drop to cool my parched
tongue. And Abraham said, that can't
happen, that can't happen, there's too big a gulf between us. He
said, would you please send somebody to tell my five brothers, warn
them, tell them so they don't come to this place of torment.
You know what he said to them? He said, if they believe not
Moses and the prophets, they would not even believe if one
rose from the dead. And Thomas, Thomas, when they
told him that the Lord had risen again from the dead, they'd seen
him, he said, I'm not gonna believe, I will not believe until I can
stick my fingers in the prints of his hands and put my hand
in the side that I saw him ripped open with. And about the time
that come out of his mouth, he hadn't seen him, but said, I'm
not gonna believe unless I see. About that time, the Lord said,
Thomas, here. If it's what it's going to take,
he said, oh my Lord and my God, I'm sorry. And he said, blessed
are they that see and believe, but more blessed are they that
see not and yet believe, yet believe. And oh my, I want to
go down here. You know, he was crucified as
a king. Now I want you to go John chapter
19 with me for a few minutes. And in the closing of this, John
19, I want to show you a few things. Look down here in verse
19 of John 19. And Pilate wrote a title and
put it on the cross. And the writing was, Jesus of
Nazareth, the King of the Jews. This title, then read many of
the Jews, for the place where Jesus was crucified was not unto
the city. And this thing, King of the Jews,
was written in Hebrew, written in Greek, and written in Latin.
Now this is the crime they accused him of. And so they put indictment
over his head, written in three different languages. Then said
the chief priest of Jews to the Pilate, write not the king of
the Jews, but that he said, I am king of the Jews. Pilate answered,
what I have written, I have written. Oh my, oh my. I tell you what,
in spite of the chief of, he had that royal title over his
head, cause truly he was. And oh my, it was right. He was
born King of the Jews. He was born King of the Jews.
And that's why Herod said, let's go find that man that's born
King of the Jews, that baby. And oh my, our Lord rode into
Jerusalem triumphantly on that coat, the foal of an ass. But
let us always remember, I tell you what, I see him as king,
don't you? He's my rightful king. He's my rightful king. Oh, Lord,
take over the throne of this heart. Take over my mind. You
rule and reign over me. They said, no, let this man reign
over me. I say, let this man reign over
me. I want Him to sit on His throne. I want Him to be the
reigner. I want Him to have the power.
I want Him to have all the authority. I want Him to do what He will
with me in this world and in the world to come. Oh, my. Oh, be sure we know Christ is
King and His kingdom set up in our heart. Oh, my. He is despised
and he is rejected. But one of these days, everybody's
going to see him as he is. And every knee shall bow and
every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord to the
glory of God. Oh, my. You know, I hope I'm
not taking too long. I don't want to wear you all
out, but I want to show you something. You know what I have written. You know what KF has said back
over in John chapter, keep John 19 in your right hand. Look over
here in John chapter 11. Look in verse 48. Yeah, 49, excuse me, 49. They said, if we must let him
alone, the Romans shall come take away our place and nation.
And one of them named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same
year, said unto them, you know nothing at all, nor consider
that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people
and that the whole nation not perish. And this spake he not
of himself, But being high priest that year, he prophesied that
Jesus should die for that nation. And not only for that nation
only, but also that he should gather together in one the children
of God that were scattered abroad. He had no idea what he was prophesying. Oh my. And then look what all
the sergeants done. They crucified him. They, you
know, gathered, took his garments. Let me say something about his
garments. You know, they took four pieces of his garment. He
had something, you know, a head covering, a head covering. You know, the Jews have their
yarmulke. I don't think they had them in those days, but he
had something over his head. They had sandals. And he had
a belt that held his clothes together, you know, pull them
in around him. And then his outer garment, had
undergarment, that outer garment, his coat was without seam. He
said, don't let us rent it. Don't let us rent it. Oh, our savior's coat was priceless,
priceless. This coat that they had, that
they, gambled for, they didn't want it torn to pieces. His robe
of righteousness was costly to him, but it's free to us, free
to us. In fact, we're like the prodigal,
bring forth the best robe, put it on him, put it on him, put
it on him. And oh my, these men were just
instruments in God's hand fulfilling prophecy of a thousand years
old, a thousand years old. And oh my, our Lord Jesus Christ. Next week we're going to deal
with what happened on that cross, if I can. Hail, King of the Jews. Hail, King of the Jews. Let's
sing. 118. Stand with me when you have the
liberty to go when this is over. When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died My richest gain I count
but loss And poor contempt on all my pride. Forbid it, Lord, that I should
boast Saving the death of Christ my God, All the vain things that
charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood. See from his head, his hands,
his feet, Sorrow and love flow me go down. Did e'er such love and sorrow
meet? O'er thorns composed so rich
a crown, Were the whole realm of nature mine. that were a present far too small. Love so amazing, so divine, demands
my soul, my life, my all. See you tonight, six o'clock,
God willing.
