Good morning let's all stand
together and sing the hymn of the day in the bulletin. Remember, Lord, the blood and
sweat Him who more than made my dead Remember Christ upon
the tree And now be merciful to me Remember how that Jesus bled
in this poor guilty sinner's stead. ? Wrath and curse for me ? ? In
his own body on the tree ? ? A perfect righteousness he wrought ? And
by His blood my pardon bought, So that His righteousness might
be By grace imputed now to me. I plead the merits of the blood
of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The sinner's substitute is he. Be seated. We'll sing hymn number
361. 361. Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour
of prayer, that calls me from a world of care. And bids me at my father's door,
? Make all my wants and wishes go ? In seasons of distress and
grief ? My soul there's oft compelling need ? And oft dismayed Attempt
to stare, while I return, to read out a prayer. Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour
of prayer, Thy wings shall I petition bear, To Him whose truth and
faithfulness Engage the waiting soul to bliss. And since he fits, we see his
face. Believe his word and trust his
grace. I'll cast your name by every
care and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer. Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour
of prayer, may I Till from Mount Vizca's lofty
height, I view my home and take my flight. This road of years,
trials, trials, and trials, To cease the everlasting rising
And shout while passing through the air, Farewell, farewell,
sweet hour of prayer. Mark chapter 14, if you will. We'll have our first Sunday dinner. We didn't get to have it last
month. And sign-up sheets on the table out there for next
Sunday. We'll start reading at verse
22 read down to verse 46 and as they did eat Jesus took
bread and blessed and break it and gave to them and said take
eat this is my body and you know our Lord Jesus Christ I preach
this as substitution and Oh, his body so broken, so busy,
he's marred more than any man's, any man's. Then he took the cup. When he had given thanks, he
gave it to them, and they all drank of it. And this is what
I love right here. He said, under them, this is
my blood, my blood, my blood, my blood. of the New Testament. God's New Testament, God's will,
by which he prepared him a body Christ could serve in. And that
blood was shed for many, not for everybody, for many, for
many. And when they had sung a hymn,
they went out unto the Mount of Olives, and Jesus said unto
them, O ye shall be offended because of me this night, For
it is written, I will smite the shepherd and the sheep shall
be scattered. But after I am risen, I will
go before you into Galilee. And he did just that. But Peter said unto him, though
all shall be offended, yet not I. And Jesus saith unto him,
Verily I say unto thee, that this night, and this night before
the cock crowed twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. But he spake
the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny
thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all. And they came to a place which
was named Gethsemane. And he saith unto his, he saith
to his disciples, sit ye here while I shall pray. And he taketh
with him Peter and James and John, and to begin sore amazed
and to be very heavy. And saith unto them, my soul,
my soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death. Tear ye here and
watch. And he went forward a little
and fell on the ground and prayed. that if it were possible, the
hour might pass from him. And he said, Abba, Father, all
things are possible unto thee. Take away this cup from me. Nevertheless,
not what I will, but what thou wilt. And he cometh and findeth
them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? Couldst thou not watch one hour? Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter
into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but
the flesh is weak. And again he went away and prayed
and spake the same words. And when he returned, he found
them asleep. For their eyes were heavy, neither
wist they knew what to answer him. And he come the third time
and saith unto them, sleep on now, take your rest. It is enough. The hour has come. Behold, the
Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise up, let
us go. Lo, he that betrayeth me is at
hand. And immediately, while he hath
spake, cometh Judas of the twelve. and with him a great multitude
with swords and staves from the chief priests and scribes and
the elders. And he that betrayed him had
given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same as he,
take him and lead him away safely. And as soon as he was come, he
goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, Master, and kissed
him. And they laid their hands on
him, and took him, and took him. Our gracious Father, our blessed
God in heaven, not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name. Be glory for thy mercy and thy
truth's sake. Oh Lord, thy mercy and thy truth. Oh, I'm so thankful they met
together at the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thy mercy
cried out for sinners to be saved. Thy truth said they could not
be saved unless there was one who bared their sin. Father,
I thank you that he did. And Lord, I bless you for your
precious word. Lord, I thank you for your willingness,
your willingness to suffer, your willingness to die, your willingness
to bear sin in your own body on the tree. And Lord, I pray
that you'd meet with us here this morning, that, oh Lord,
you'd come and visit your vine, come and visit the trees of righteousness
which you've planted, Come to bless the hearts and minds of
your dear people with the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. And
Lord, save sinners in this place. Oh God, open hearts, open understandings. Put that seed, that sinless seed,
that perfect seed in the heart of the Lord Jesus, of the Lord
Jesus in the heart of those that are lost. That incorruptible
seed. Replace it with that corruptible
seed. And bless His Savior. We pray for those among us who
are weak, frail, maybe even still sick. God bless them. Lord, encourage
them. And Lord, we pray for the babies
that are not well, that have problems. Lord, we pray for their
mothers and fathers. Lord, that you'd strengthen them,
encourage them, give them an abundance of grace. But Lord,
we especially pray for Blaine and Shannon's baby. Went through
that heart surgery this week. We thank you for what you've
done for them. Thank you for how you've upheld them. Thank
you for what you're doing for that baby. Lord, we are utterly
helpless when we come to these things. But you're not. You're not. You're not helpless.
You've got grace abounding. You've got grace to abound. You've
got bags of mercy never yet open. God use it to thy glory and the
good of those people. We ask these things for Christ's
sake. Amen. I'd rather have Jesus than silver
or gold. I'd rather be His than have riches
untold. I'd rather have Jesus than pass
the door And to be the king of the vast
plain, for me there will be sin's restrain. I'd rather have Jesus than daily
Please. And to be a king of the past
away For he dealt me swift and sly I'd rather have Jesus than to fall. I'd rather be Jesus than to fall. I'd rather have Jesus world-widening. I'd rather be
circumcised fully. Enter thee, O King of the vast
domain, O'er the empty streets that strain. You look back here with me now
in Mark 14. Our Lord had given the cup of
the blood, representing the blood, a symbol of the blood of our
Lord Jesus Christ, that was shed. And then He has a kiss from one
that betrayed Him. What took place between that
cup that He gave them and the kiss that he received. You know,
our Lord's life was short, very short life, but it was an intense
life. Never entered the ministry till
he was 30 years old. Lived for 33 and a half years,
so he lived for three and a half years. Very, very intense life. His life was fully lived. Full
of experiences, lots of experiences. He experienced great love, great,
great love. So many people loved him, loved
him. But he also experienced hate,
hate without a cause. They said they hated, he said,
they hated me without a cause. And there's one time that he
was joyful when they came talking about him. how the spirits were
subject unto him. Then he was a man of sorrow.
Oh, he knew sorrow. Oh, how he knew sorrow. But he
was a man full of compassion, compassion. And his commitment
in his life was to his father and his people. He was committed
to his father's will, to his father's word. He was committed
to his sheep, committed to giving his life for his people. And
you know our Lord Jesus Christ, he had faith. He had faith. And his faith was tried. That's
why we're justified by the faith of the Son of God. He's the only
one who had perfect faith. But he believed God, and he was
tried. And he triumphed in his faith
over every one, every soul. You know, he triumphed over friend
and foe. He triumphed by faith over blessing
and betrayal. You know, the scripture says,
though he were a son, yet he learned obedience. And he was
obedient, obedient even unto death. And between the giving
of that cup there in verse 23, he took the cup, said, this is
my blood. This is my blood. And getting
that kiss down in verse 45, we come and kissed him. Master,
master. We can see the intenseness of
our Lord's life in his closing hours. They're gonna go and they're
gonna take him this night. He's gonna be crucified in less
than 12 hours. Our Lord's gonna be crucified.
And we can see the intenseness of our Lord's life in his closing
hours and the experiences that his soul, his soul passed through,
his soul did. And oh, look what happens in
the closing hour of his life. What happens down in verse 26,
I want you to see what happens. Now he just got through having
a fellowship with these dear people. And then when they had
sung a hymn, they sung a hymn. Could you imagine, you imagine
what our voice, our Lord's voice, you know, they sang so beautiful
this morning, but could you imagine the voice of our Lord Jesus Christ
singing? Can you imagine, his voice would
have been the purest singing voice ever sung on the face of
this earth. Nobody could sing like our Savior. Nobody. Can you imagine him singing? And they sung a psalm. When they
said sung a hymn, they sung a psalm. You know, I speculate maybe I
do know this, and that his suffering was coming upon him. He knew
that he was suffering. He was fixed to go to Gethsemane. And yet they stopped and sung
a hymn. We sung a hymn this morning.
Bleed the merits of the bloodless Son of God. That's what we sung.
Bleed, I bleed the merits of Christ. And his suffering was
upon it. And here he comes and he sings
a hymn. Leads those twelve in singing
a hymn. And I wondered what it was. Was
it Psalm 23? The Lord is my shepherd, I shall
not want. Maybe it's Psalm 40. The Lord
heard my cry and lifted me out of a horrible pit. Maybe it's
Psalm 91 when he says, He that dwelleth in the shadow of the
Almighty dwelleth in safety, and the Lord is my refuge and
my strength. Maybe, I don't know what he sung,
but I do know that whatever it was, maybe it's Psalm 22. Maybe it's Psalm 22. Who knows? Who knows? But I do know that
they sung a hymn. They sung a hymn. And oh my,
I wonder what that, I just can't imagine how our Lord's voice,
but I do know this. Revelation 5 says that we'll
sing a new song. He sung here and we'll get to
sing a new song. You know what that new song will
be? We're going to sing the song of Him that redeemed us by His
blood out of every kindred, tongue, and nation, and people on this
world. We're going to look upon Him who was slain. And we're
gonna sing, not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name
be glory. Oh my, we're gonna sing a new
song. And then look what else he says
now. After they done that, after he done that, they went on to
the Mount of Olives. And Jesus saith unto them, now
they've sung a hymn, And they went out and Jesus said unto
them, all ye shall be offended because of me this night. For
it is written, I'll smite the shepherd and the sheep shall
be scattered. Now our Lord, every scripture
has to be fulfilled concerning him. And he said, he predicted
here just exactly what was gonna happen. The shepherd's about
to be smitten and the sheep scattered. Now I want you to look with me
at Zechariah. Look in Zechariah with me. Zechariah,
you know, is right before Malachi. Look with me in chapter 13, and
look what it says here in verse 7. All ye shall be offended of me.
And that word offended, oh my. Look what he says, verse 7. Awake, O sword, against my shepherd. God's shepherd, the great shepherd
of the sheep, the good shepherd that lays down his life for his
friends, that great shepherd, an awake old sword against my
shepherd, God said he's my shepherd, my shepherd, and against the
man that's my fellow, saith the Lord of hosts, smite that shepherd,
and the sheep shall be scattered, and I'll turn my hands upon the
little ones. And our Lord Jesus Christ here,
he said, the shepherd's about to be smitten when the sheep's
gonna be scattered all over the place. What a change, what a
dramatic change from singing a hymn, eating with his disciples. He said, with great desire, I've
desired to do this, ate with his disciples. Singing that hymn,
eating with his disciples, enjoying communion with his disciples.
And now he says, every one of you is going to desert me. Every
one of you is going to desert me. Every one of you is going
to desert me. You know, they had taken our
master at his word for years and years. And now Simon Peter
says, that ain't going to happen. It's just not going to happen.
We're not going to betray you. Nobody's going to betray you.
We're not going to be offended over you. And oh my, look what
he says down here in verse 29. But old Simon Peter said, but
after all those, he said unto him, though all shall be offended, I won't, I won't. You know, back up there when
our Lord says, you know, one of you betrays me, they all begin
to say, is it I, is it I, is it I, is it I? But now when it
comes to betraying the Lord Jesus Christ and being scattered from
him and being offended over him, Peter says, oh no, everybody,
not me, I won't be, I won't be, I won't be. And oh, our Lord
said, I tell you, Peter, before this night, before this night
is over, before the rooster crows two times, you're gonna deny
me three times. But oh my, look what he said
in verse 30, but he spake the more vehemently. He got upset
about it. He got intense about it. He got
fiery about it. If I should die with you, I will
not deny you like in any wise. And look what it says here. Every
one of them said the same thing. They all said the same thing.
And you know, the only people who are afraid of their selves
is people who are the Lord's, are the Lord's. But oh my, and
thank God that that sword has smite the shepherd. Awake, oh sword, against my fella. And oh thank God the sword was
awakened on him. Thank God the Lord, the sword
smote him. Thank God the Lord, the sword
was shoved into him instead of into us. And now, and oh my,
He done that for us, now his sheep's for us. And then look
what he suffered. Oh my, it says down in verse
32. And they came to a place which
was named Gethsemane. Everybody knows about the Garden
of Gethsemane. And he says to his disciples,
sit here a while while I pray. We just sung Sweet Hour Prayer.
But this wasn't a sweet hour of prayer for our Lord. No, no. He took Peter, Johns, and James
with him, and they got into the garden, they got into Gethsemane,
and he told them, said, now you fellas sit right over here. So
I want you to sit right here, and I'm gonna go over here and
pray. Well, I pray. Well, I pray. Oh, my. And he taketh with them Peter,
James, and John, and look what he says in verse 33. And to be sore amazed, and to
be very heavy, very heavy. You know, have you ever been,
has your heart ever been heavy? Has your mind ever been heavy?
Has your soul ever been heavy? Have you ever felt the weight
of trials and burdens? Have you ever felt heavy? Heavy. Well, our Lord was amazed. So amazed, just astonished. And
his heart was heavy. His soul was heavy. And it got
so heavy on him And oh my, and he saith unto them, my soul is
exceeding sorrowful, and unto death tear ye here and watch. Our Lord's whole life had been
one of suffering, one of suffering. You know, our Lord was born,
and when he was born, he was laid in a cow stall. laid in
a cow stall, born poor, and then when he was lived in this life,
he lived his life as a poor man, a poor man. In fact, the place tells us that
the foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests,
but the son of man don't even have a place to lay his head. He lived a poor man. He never
had any money. He had one suit of clothes. When he died, that's all he had
on him was what he owned. It was on his back. He owned
one suit of clothes. And what was on him was on his
back. And oh my, he was despised. Why would anybody despise our
Lord Jesus Christ? I know why they despised him.
I did at one time. I myself did at one time. And
oh, our Lord, oh my good, he was rejected of men. Born poor. Our Lord lived poor. And he died poor. And they gambled
for his garments. And oh my, this says he was amazed. It says there in verse, they're
so amazed and to be very heavy. What made him so amazed and what
made him so very heavy? Why? I'll tell you why. All the sins of God's elect,
of God's elect, from the beginning until the last she born came
beating upon the head and on the body of the Son of God. All the sins come out great mountains
and mountains and mountains of all the sins of all the people
that ever Christ died for come marching like big giant tyrants
And he has to face all those sins. He has to bear all those
sins. He has to suffer for all those
sins. My sins amaze me and I get heavy
over them. But oh, to get heavy. Oh, I wish
our sins got heavier on us than they do, but they was heavy on
Christ. He was amazed that I've got to
face these things. I've got to deal with them. And all our sins are being made
to meet on him that would have sunk every one of us to the lowest
hell. And the scripture says that the
Lord laid, laid, laid on him the iniquity
of us all. He was wounded, wounded, wounded
for our transgressions. Oh, and we just read with a Waco
sword, smite the shepherd, smite my
fellow, Oh, not only is our sins gonna
meet on Him, but here comes God's wrath. Here comes the wrath of
God. Here comes the wrath of God.
There's a fire upon the head of the Son of God. Here comes
His justice. And He takes that sword, and
God says, I've got to smite. I've got to smite. Why? Because
sin's on Him. on him. And over, hovering over
him is the dark, dark clouds and oh my, storms, a storm's
fixed to come up on him more than any come upon any man that's
ever been. And all we can, and look what
it says there in verse 32. And they said, sit ye here while
I shall pray. That's all you and I can do.
We can just sit here and see what our Lord did on the behalf
of us. Bless his holy name. Bless his
holy name. And oh my, look what he said
in verse 34. And he saith unto them, my soul. You see that, my soul. Not my body, my soul. My soul. is sorrowful unto death. Sorrowful unto death. You know,
you all know where Lamentations is. Lamentations is right after
Jeremiah. Find the Lamentations. Find Lamentations,
then go to chapter 1. Find Lamentations. It's right
after the book of Jeremiah, before the book of Ezekiel. Oh, my soul,
my soul. Our souls is who we actually
are. But oh, my, sorrowful of soul
because his holy sins coming upon him. Look what it says down
here in verse 12 of Lamentations 1. Is it nothing to you, O ye that pass by? Is it nothing
to you, O ye that pass by? Behold, and see if there be any
sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me. Listen to this,
wherewith the Lord hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger." His soul is so sorrowful because
he's holy. He is so holy. He is infinitely
holy, and sins come upon him. And when he bore our sin and
bore our guilt, it wasn't a heartless mechanical process. No, no, no. How could the sinless, spotless,
holy Son of God come into contact with sin and guilt and not be
exceeding sorrow? Exceeding sorrow. He's not weeping
over anything that he's done, but what he's fixing to do. And
our Lord actually experienced, now I'm gonna tell you something
here, our Lord actually experienced the guilt, the sin, as it pleased
the Lord to bruise him, as it pleased the Lord to put him to
grief. God made his soul an offering for sin. Now let me tell you
something, where there's no sin, There can't be death. If there's no sin, there can't
be death. But wherever sin is found, there has to be death
inflicted. The soul that sinneth, it shall
die. Christ had no sin of his own. But how in the world is he going
to die? Why is he sorrowful? Why is he so remade? Because
I'll tell you why. God made him to be just us. The worst we've ever been, the
worst we'll ever have been, the worst we'll ever be, God made
him to be. If we could describe sin, if
we could have an understanding of how deep, dark sin really
is, how odious it is in the mind and will and nostrils of God,
And the guilt, the guilt, I felt the guilt of my sins. And oh,
thank God he took it away. The Christ, he had to bear our
sin. If he didn't have no sin, he
wouldn't have died on that cross. So whose sin was he dying for?
Not his own, had to be for somebody else. So why did he die? God made him to be sinned. God did that. Oh, my. So if he's not suffering for
his sin, he has to be suffering for somebody else's sin. You reckon he suffered for your
sins? Is there anybody in here that would say, I believe he
suffered for my sins? I believe my sin was upon him. I believe that when Christ was
exceeding sorrowful, was so amazed and heavy, and the shepherd was
smitten and afflicted. Do you think, does anybody in
here really believe that he bore their sin? How awful sin is that it took
such a sacrifice, that it took one so holy, one so precious,
God's dear son, the son of his love, that it took him, took
him to be able to die. And he died for every sin of
every soul that was ever given to him. And he was able to bear
them in such a way that God would never come and ask us for pay
one more of them, not one. In that he died, he died under
sin once. Once. Oh my, bless his holy name. Thank you, Lord. Oh, thank you,
Lord, for bearing my sin. And oh, then look what he did. In verse
35, told his disciples to be sorrowful
and watch. Terry, you're in watch. He is
sorrowful unto death. And he went forward a little
way and fell on the ground and prayed. that if it were possible,
the hour might pass from him. Now, this is how heavy this was
on him. He went forward just a little
ways for most apostles, for those disciples, and he fell. He was so heavy. The scripture
says he fell. I don't think he got on his knees.
I believe he fell on his face. I believe he was prostrate on
the ground. He fell on the ground. You know, he prayed three times
here, three times. And oh my, what a prayer. What
a prayer. His soul's in agony. His soul's
so heavy that he falls to the ground. And this is how he prays. Oh, he went forward a little
and fell on the ground. And this is the words that he
said. He prayed, Lord, oh, if it's possible If it were possible,
if it were possible, Lord, let this hour go by. Let this hour pass me by. Let
it pass me by. And then he said, Abba, Father, that
word Abba is the word for a child, a child. And here he is, as a
child, talking to his father. Have a father. Then he says,
father, as one who has grown. And he said, everything, all
things are possible unto you. And take away this cup from me.
Nevertheless, not what I will, but that which I will. He says,
if it be possible, let this cup pass from me. Oh, he just had a cup. He just
gave them a cup. And he says, this is my blood.
This is my blood, which is shed for many. Now, what cup is he
talking about here? The cup of the rejection of his
father. This cup that you're going to
reject me, that you're going to turn your back on me, that
you're going to forsake me. that you're gonna smite me, that
your fierce wrath is gonna come upon me. And oh, and then there's
the cup of the sins of our souls inside that cup. There's a cup
of God's wrath, the fierceness of His wrath in that cup. And
oh, He has to imbue it. And there's the cup of desertion
and betrayal where they're all gonna desert Him and they're
gonna betray Him. Oh my. And I tell you what, David
said, there's, I'm going to take the cup of salvation. God took
all, our Lord took all them cups to give us a cup. And it's called
the cup of salvation. Psalm 116. Oh my. If the sheep are to be saved,
he must drink that cup. He must drink it. He must drain
it. He must empty it. And oh, look
how, look how He yields. Oh, He yields. Look how yielding
He is. Look how voluntary He is, how
willing He is. He says there at verse 36, I
have a Father. All things are possible unto
me. Take away these cup from me. But look what He says. Nevertheless,
nevertheless, not my will, not what I want, Not what I will
to do, but what your will is. That's what I want. That's what
I want. Oh, he said, I came down from
heaven not to do my will, but the will of him that sent me.
And he's an obedient son. Look in Hebrews chapter 5 with
me. Just look together in Hebrews
5. Show you about the son, how obedient he was. How obedient
our Lord was in chapter 5, and look in verse 7. Nevertheless,
not I will, but what thou wilt, what thou wilt. Here is an obedient
son, what it says in verse 7, Hebrews 5, 7, who in the days
of his flesh when he offered up prayers and supplications
with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save
him from death, was heard in that he was feared. That's what
he's talking about right here, what was going on in the garden
against him. That's what the apostle's talking
about. Through the days of his flesh, offered up prayers and
supplications, strong crying, He said he cried till his sweat
became as were great drops of blood Unto him that was able
to save him from death and was heard Because he was holy and listen
to this though he were a son see how that's capitalized yet
He learned yet learned he by obedience the thing which he
suffered Oh my. In the garden, you know
what Adam said? I will be done. I want my will to be done. I
want to be independent. I want to run my own life. I
want to be the one in charge. I want to be independent. I want
to be free. I want to have my own will. I
want to have my own way. That's what I want. And it's
been that way for every man until now. Here comes a man. Here comes
a man. He's a son given, a child born. Here comes a man. And you know what he says? Father,
you've got the ability to save me. You got the power to save
me. You got, if it was possible,
you got the power. But it's just not possible. So
you know what I say? I say not my will, but oh God,
your will, even if it suffers me to cause to die in my place. Oh my. He became a curse for
us. He became obedient unto death
for us. He gave himself a curse. And
I have what our Lord is saying, if you will to have a people,
if you will to do it in a way that makes you just and justifier. Dr. Richardson preached a message
one time from Proverbs 17, 15, says this, it's wicked to justify
the guilty and condemn the innocent. And God did both. Condemn the
innocent to justify the wicked. The just for the unjust. The
innocent one for the guilty one. God did both. He said, so I can
be just, I'll put all my sin on them and the man that comes
to my blessed son. for all their hope, for all their
salvation, for all their righteousness, for all their forgiveness, come
to Christ for everything. Said, I'm just to say I'll clear
them up. They ain't got no sin because
my son already born. Oh my. And then let me show you
this. Look what he says to his disciples.
Verse 37. And he comes and he finds them
sleeping. You know, we've all sometimes,
we work hard and we come in and I tell you sometimes it just
can't be helped, I understand that. He comes and finds him
sleeping. My Lord's praying over here.
Praying, prostrate on the ground. And saith unto Peter, Simon,
you sleeping? He asked the question, you sleeping?
Could you not just watch one hour? Just an hour? Watch and pray, lest ye enter
into temptation. Watch and pray. You know, he's
telling them, temptation's fixed to come and get you. You're fixed
to really be tempted. And watch what he says. The Spirit
truly is ready to do for you. But you know what your problem
is? Your flesh is weak, your flesh is weak. And oh my, and
he went away and prayed and spake the same words. And oh my, look
what he says. And when he had returned, he
found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. Neither
wish they know what to answer, didn't know how to answer. You
know, our Lord's praying. His soul's in agony. He's in
heaviness. And you know what he says? He
come find him sleeping. He wasn't mad at him. He wasn't
upset at him. He wasn't angry at him. He said,
Simon, are you sleeping? Are you sleeping? Couldn't you
just watch an apple? Our Lord talks so tenderly to
his sheep. Oh, my. You know, he knows. You know,
the flesh is weak. Oh, how weak. Paul said, I know
that in me and my flesh dwells no good thing. What I would do,
I don't. What I wouldn't do, I do. And
the things that I hate, I do. And when I would do evil, do
good, evil right there with me. And oh my, he tenderly, tenderly,
his soul is suffering, deals with sleeping disciples. But
oh my, he said, the spirit's ready, but you know the flesh
is weak. And oh my, and then look what
he said. And he cometh the third time
in verse 41, saith unto them, sleep on now, and take your rest. That's what he said, just take
your rest. That's what he does, take your rest. Sleep on, just
go to sleep. Take your rest, it's enough,
it's enough. I've prayed enough, I've done
what I've come here to do. It's enough. The hour's come.
The hour's come. Then look what he says. Behold,
the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. That's
what he's called, you know, he suffered a contradiction of sinners
to himself. He's dying for sinners, yet he's
delivered into the hands of sinners. And oh, my. And he says, oh,
rise up, let's go. He then betrays me, he said,
a hand. And what a confession, you know, that betrayed into
the hands of sinners. You know, our Lord said in one
place, I could call 12 legions of angels. And Simon, an old
pilot told him, he says, you know, He said, are you a king? He said,
if I was a king, I'd have a whole army here to fight for you. If
this world was all there is to it, me dying for all my people,
but I'm not of this world and my people's not of this world. Him that calls the stars by name. You know, they got them telescopes
out there and they got all these astronomers talking about black
holes and all that rigmarole. Let them go ahead and do that.
And they're talking about the stars just died. But let me tell
you, God says that he calls the stars by name. I can find the Big Dipper. That's
about all I can find. But he calls them by name. And
this man here that calls things that exist as if they do, don't
exist as if they do, this man here that says, you know, I'm
going to be betrayed, the hour has come now. Oh my, he that
calls the dead to life, he confesses I'm betrayed, not by an angel,
but by a professed disciple. Oh my, he says, sleep on now,
the son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Look with
me in John chapter 2, John's gospel chapter 2. I may start
in John next, either John or Luke, I don't know. Whatever
the Lord wills for me. But look what he said here in
verse 23, John 2, 23. Oh, what a confession. For him who called twelve legions
of angels, calls the stars by name, being betrayed. Now when he was in Jerusalem
at the Passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name
when they saw the miracles which he did. But Jesus did not commit
himself unto them, because he knew all, and needed not that
any should testify of man. Don't try to tell me what man's
like. Don't brag about this man. Don't brag about that man. Don't
tell me how good man is. Don't tell me what all he's accomplished. He need not that any should tell
him about what a man was like, for he knew what was in man.
Man in his best of states, altogether vanity. And oh my, he gave himself
up to this. He gave himself a ransom for
all. He said, it's enough. It's enough in verse 41. Behold,
the son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Look what he says now in verse
42. Rise up, get up now. Get up, let's go. Let's go. Where are we going? Where are
we going? Where are we going? We're gonna get up here and face
this mob that's coming after me. Lo, he that betrays me is
at hand. And look what it says, and immediately,
verse 43, immediately, while he was saying this, here comes
Judas, one of the 12, and a great multitude with swords and stave
from the chief priests and scribes and the elders. And oh my, And they that betrayed him had
given him a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss. This shows us that
Christ did not have a halo over his head, didn't have a light
shining down on him, that he looked so like anybody else that
they didn't know which one of the twelve that he would be,
which one was going to be. And he said, I'll show you where
he's at. I'll pick him out for you. And whenever Whomsoever
I shall kiss, that's the one. And look what it says, take him,
take him, and lead him away safely. Safely. Safely. And as soon as he was calm, he
straightway comes and says, master, master, and kissed him. And they laid their hands on
him and took him away. Oh my. And I tell you, and the
scripture says, you know, they followed him afar off, followed
him afar off. But by God's grace, we're going
to get up here and we're going to go on about our lives. We're
going to go about our lives this week, and we're going to attend
a lot of services by the grace of God. We're going to hear a
lot more preaching in our lifetimes. But God help us when we rise
up from this place, and we rise up in the morning, and we go
down at night, that we're following the Lord Jesus Christ. That we'll
not betray Him with a kiss. We'll not betray Him with our
words. And oh my, may we, Lord, give us eyes to see Him in our
place. And I say to you here that don't
know Christ, that's never confessed your faith in Christ, you rise
up right now. You rise up and follow Him. Rise up. It's enough. He bore
your sin. It's enough. Rise up in your
heart and in your soul and say, I'm going to follow Him. I'm
going to follow Him for all mine. Oh, what a kiss. What a kiss. Me and Shirley kiss. I like to
kiss her and I hope she likes to kiss me. And I love to kiss
my brethren. I'll kiss my brethren with a
kiss on the cheek. Been doing that for years. Oh my. You know what Solomon said? Christ
kiss me with the kisses of my mouth. Oh, our blessed, blessed Father,
our Lord Jesus Christ. Oh, Lord, how precious you are
to us that believe. What a precious faith you gave
us to believe, to believe you, to come to you. Lord, thank you for your gospel.
Thank you for your willingness. God, please bring glory to yourself
through this message. Make it a blessing to your dear
people. And, oh, Lord, enable people
to come to you. Give grace for sinners to come
to you and believe you and trust you. Because you died for sinners. You gave your life for ransom
for sinners. And, Lord, we come. Oh, Lord, we come one more time
to you. our all and our all and all. We thank you. Bless your holy
name. Amen. Amen. Turn your eyes and if you can't
do it. Look at it. Look at it. Don't need it, don't need it. His glory and His grace. See you tonight, six o'clock,
God willing.
